2 January:

As we begin the new year, actor/producer J.Y. Park revealed his honest thoughts and feelings about theWonder Girls‘ venture into the U.S.
He tweeted,
“If the Wonder Girls and I did not challenge the U.S. market, JYP would have probably made much more money, and I would have probably become a wealthy person with tens of millions of dollars, and Wonder Girls would have had more popularity in Korea than now.
However, we tackled a foolish and nonsensical challenge. This year, the results of that long arduous period will come out. If it turns out well, we will have achieved a result that no other company nor celebrity has been able to do, but if it doesn’t turn out well, we will have wasted money and popularity on an unreasonable challenge.
Will I regret it if it doesn’t turn out well?
We might have wasted popularity as well as tens of millions of dollars on that challenge, but we have gained hundreds of millions of dollars worth of wisdom, clashing and breaking while tackling the biggest market in the world. Genuine wisdom can only be obtained as you face hardships while taking on the impossible.
I have known, since a long time ago, about what I have to do in order to safely gain money and fame. However, I’ve always done the opposite.
Money and fame come and go like the wind, but wisdom will protect myself and the kids [idols] for a lifetime. For me, I would like my singers to grow up as wise individuals more so than successful celebrities. In order for that to happen, they must gain wisdom through various challenges when they are young. That is why I’m really anticipating what the Wonder Girls will be like in 20 years. I don’t know if they’ll still be working as celebrities then or not, but I’m confident that they will be happier and cooler than any other celebrity through the wisdom they have gained over the past few years.
Our goal for 2012 is again, not money, not popularity, but wisdom. Who knows? Maybe money and popularity will follow? Keep an eye on us, and please cheer us on. ^^”
Shortly after, he tweeted in a shorter version for the international fans in English, which you can readhere.
In related news, Wonder Girls will be leaving for the States once again in mid January to promote their TV movie, ‘Wonder Girls at the Apollo’, which will air in February.

12 July:

A few months back, there were some rumors going around that accused J.Y. Park of plagiarism. Netizens debated fiercely over whether his ‘Dream High‘ OST track, ”Someday“, snatched a chorus from one of songwriter Kim Shin Il’s works.
According to the Seoul Central District Court, Kim Shin Il claimed that “They plagiarized “To My Man” from ASH’s 2nd album.” Since J.Y. Park was the songwriter and lyricist of “Someday”, he is being sued for 110 million won ($103,000 USD) for compensation.
Kim Shin Il’s manager claimed,
The melody of the chorus of ‘Someday’ is like ‘To My Man’, which was composed in 2003.

The harmony and rhythm, the acoustic guitar and drums, even the bass, the instruments are all similar too.
…We demand 110 million won to compensate for the losses due to copyright infringement.

Mr. Park has plagarized on several occasions in the past, and called them ’samplings’ and ‘arrangements’. J.Y. Park’s ‘Kiss Me‘ from his 5th album and g.o.d’s ‘To My Mother‘ and ‘Observe‘ have been given up.
On July 12th, J.Y. Park’s representative responded saying,
Regretfully, we will abide by the law. It can’t be said that it’s plagarism since it has a chord progression that is commonly used in popular music.

If they sue, we will take action with a legal team.”

26 June:
As many fans know, 2PM’s club track “Hands Up” owes its vibe to its bright synth loops and addictive melody, brightened with the addition of a cute adlib by none other than the Wonder Girls‘ Sohee two minutes into the song. Today, J.Y. Park revealed that Sohee contributed more than just her voice for the production of this track.

On his me2day and Twitter, the producer revealed, “The Wonder Girls’ Sohee fixed the melody of 2PM’s “Hands Up”. If she hadn’t done so, the song would’ve been different. This is why it says, “advised by Ahn Sohee,” in 2PM’s album. Miss Sensible, please continue your constructive advice~^^
Netizens commented, “I wonder what kind of changes were made to the melody,” “Sohee is a quiet force,”  ”She must have exceptional talent,”  and, “I want to hear addictive songs by the Wonder Girls too!
In related news, Sohee turns 19 (20 in Korean years) today — happy birthday to her!

25 June:
J.Y. PARK sent his thanks to 2PM’s fans, reflecting on the group’s status and energetic vibe with their recent ‘Hands Up‘ comeback.

On the 24th, JYP wrote on his Twitter, “Why were 2PM’s songs from the past two years so sad? Because we were sad.”
He continued, “We created ‘Hands Up’ because we were finally ready to have fun. Thank you to Hottest for having taken care of these kids thus far.”
2PM’s past songs include “Again & Again“, “Hate You“, “Heartbeat“, “Tired of Waiting for You“, and “I’ll Be Back“, all of which feature sad and depressing melodies and lyrics.
Many felt like the boys and their producer and boss JYP were in a sad state of mind, so “Hands Up” is definitely a boost of energy to this group of “beast idols”.

2 Juni:

Earlier this week, J.Y. Park successfully completed his first fan meeting in 10 years. On May 31st, he shifted his attention to 2PM’s fans by releasing a short teaser for their new song.
J.Y. Park posted a video on his me2day saying,
“My second crazy act?!? I uploaded it at 2PM ^^ (I wonder why I posted it at 2PM?)”
In the video, J.Y. Park can be seen in the studio with Manny Marroquin as he guides his fans in the process of mixing, and also discusses Manny Marroquin’s favorite Asian artist.
We’ve translated his dialogue, so be sure to check out the video below!
Hello, today’s crazy act is to briefly explain the mixing stage of music production.
After the instruments are recorded and all the singers finishing singing, these elements are all put into this mixing board to be combined. If we were to put it in the context of an orchestra, it would be like conducting. So if you see here, each column has one sound and we are adjusting the sound by using variants such as the EQ to make it into the sound I want.
Once we get the overall balance of all the sounds, we combine them to make a song…
There is a step after this called mastering, I will explain that next time. Now, my most beloved partner that I am mixing with, who won the Grammy for engineering last year, the world’s best engineer, Manny Marroquin! He has worked with me on miss A and 2PM’s albums and will be doing so again this time… Hope you enjoyed this video. Next time (if I get the chance) I will do a video on mastering.
