MTV‘s World Stage Live in Malaysia 2012

MTV‘s World Stage Live in Malaysia 2012 is set to take place on July 14th at “Surf Beach @ Sunway Lagoon” in Malaysia. Two of Korea’s top pop sensations. Jay Park and KARA will be performing at the event.

With K-pop growing in Malaysia, they decided to bring these two popular artists to perform in front of more than 15,000 fans. Additionally, World famous pop star Justin Bieber along with Malaysia’s very own Mizz Nina will also be performing at the event.

K-Collection in Seoul

On March 11th, the ‘K-Collection in Seoul‘ event was held at the Seoul Olympic Park Gymnastic Stadium.  This event was highly anticipated due to it’s long line up of top K-Pop idols and high class models who were scheduled to perform at the arena.

On this night, SBS anchorman, Choi Ki Hwan hosted the event as the main MC.  The numerous idols who performed on this night included Big Bang, IU, MBLAQ, Infinite, T-ara, Miss A, Secret, Nine Muses, and Girls’ Generation.

Unfortunately, Girls’ Generation member YoonA and Taeyeon were unable to make it to the event.  YoonA had her hands full with her new drama, “Love Rain” while Taeyeon injured her toenail.

This event marked South Korea’s first fashion concert event that hosted over twenty fashion beauty brands, fashion designers, and over 100 super models.

Mango Tree

28 November:

JYJ, Song Ji Hyo, and Park Yoo Hwan have come together for a project that aimed to help kids in need in Africa.

C-Jes Entertainment has revealed that they’ve put together a project called ‘Mango Tree’, along withELLE magazine and World Vision.

With the long history of civil wars in Sudan, there are many children who are suffering from various problems such as starvation, pollution, and lack of schools. The project aims to keep these children and their families fed by planting mango trees, which grow easily despite poor soil conditions or hot climates.

C-Jes has launched a page dedicated to this project (also available in English here) that explains more about the project, and gives individuals an opportunity to sponsor a mango tree.

The site also includes video clips that feature JYJ, Song Ji Hyo, and Park Yoo Hwan discussing the project in three different languages (Korean, English, and Japanese) to spread awareness about the good cause.

Spread KimChi and Joy

The multi-talented Lee Seung Gi traded in his microphone for an apron and a pair of pink rubber gloves.

On November 11th, Lee Seung Gi attended the ‘Spread KimChi and Joy‘ event that was held at theSangrok Children’s Home in Seoul.

The charity event was put on by a charitable group affiliated with the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and it was their last charity event to round out the year of 2011. This is their second annual winter charity effort after last year’s ‘Briquet Delivery’ event.

Despite his busy schedule, Lee Seung Gi didn’t show any signs of tiredness, and worked hard to produce mass amounts of kimchi by hand, warming up the atmosphere at the event.

The public admired Seung Gi who rocked a red apron and pink rubber gloves, whom seemed to really be enjoying himself while personally making and tasting the kimchi.

As soon as he arrived, he immediately changed into more comfortable clothing and got right to work, further adding to his friendly and down to earth image.

130 people participated at the charity event that took place at the Sangrok Children’s Home and produced 1,500 heads of cabbage kimchi, sharing it with the Children’s Home as well as delivering some to the elderly who live alone in the area.

NIKE WE RUN SEOUL 10K

25 October:

On October 23rd, sportswear brand ‘Nike‘ held their ‘NIKE WE RUN SEOUL 10K‘ event at the Gwanghwajun Square in Seoul.

The global running marathon will run through 13 different cities all over the world under the world. The catch phrase for Seoul city’s was, “A Seoul full of youth, and a Seoul loved by the world.” Over 30,000 gathered for the event in bright orange matching shirts.

Amongst the crowd were several top stars like Park Han Byul, Lee Chun Hee, Jun Hye Bin, Sean,Rainbow, and others. The marathon will conclude later tonight with a musical festival at the final destination.

About $300,000 USD (50% of the proceeds) will be donated to various charities.

2011-2012 KB National Card Professional Basketball

16 October:

On October 16th, the members of SHINee visited the ‘2011-2012 KB National Card Professional Basketball‘ game between the Seoul Samsung Thunders and Changwon LG Sakers at the Seoul Jamshil Indoor Gymasnium.

SHINee kicked off the match with a ‘shoot the hoops’ session and put on a mini-concert at the half-time for the show. Samsung Electronics also provided a variety of events for the audience members by providing cookies and restaurant certificates.

LG won the game with a final score of 81 to 74.

2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)

Last year, the ‘2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)’ was held at Macau, and this year, Mnet will be hosting the event in Singapore!

According to a majority of industry officials, the ’2011 MAMA’ will be held at the Indoor Stadium in Singapore on November 29th. Now that fans know the ‘when’, they’re curious about the ‘who’ — focus is now being put on whether or not SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment will be bringing their artists to the ceremony.

SM Entertainment has had a long standing conflict with Mnet, which was recently resolved this year. YG Entertainment, on the other hand, are undergoing several issues with their artists, making it highly likely that they’ll be sitting out this year.

Last year, the MAMA spent $4 million USD by holding their ceremony at the Cotai Arena and earned hot attention for being the first Korean awards ceremony to take place overseas. The event was broadcast in 16 different networks across Asia.
