City Hunter

29 July:
On July 28th, SBS’s popular drama, ‘City Hunter‘ came to a close.

With the finale, the ending attracted much attention with controversial comments from viewers. The foster father of ‘Lee Yoon Sung‘ (played by Lee Min Ho), Jin Pyo (played by Kim Sang Joong), was hit by a gun and was filed as dead by Lee Yoon Sung.
Even though at the end, Yoon Sung and ‘Na Na‘ (played by Park Min Young) reunite, some viewers were left to believe that Yoon Sung was actually a ghostly figure. However, the producer, Kim Yong Sup, stated to TVDaily through a phone conversation on July 29th, “Yoon Sung is not dead“.
Kim Yong Sup elaborated, “Lee Min Ho was shot by a gun, and after much time passes, he eventually meets Park Min Young. He didn’t appear as a ghost as it was actually a time jump. Of course, I respect the arbitrary interpretation of the viewers. However, just the fact that Yoon Sung didn’t die is strictly speaking, the definition of a happy ending. The director and writer put in the scene with this as their mindset.”
However, the last episode of ‘City Hunter’ still resulted in the deaths of prosecutor ‘Yong Joo‘ (played by Lee Joon Hyuk) and Jin Pyo. Yoon Sung was injured by Jin Pyo’s bullet but recovered as time went by.

The popular SBS drama, ‘City Hunter‘, finally aired its series finale and wrapped up the fates of the three main characters, ‘Kim Na Na‘, ‘Lee Yoon Sung‘ and ‘Lee Jin Pyo‘.
On July 28th, the last episode of ‘City Hunter’ saw Lee Yoon Sung (Lee Min Ho) stop Lee Jin Pyo’s (Kim Sang Joong) revenge on ‘Choi Eun Chan‘ (Chun Ho Jin).
Lee Yoon Sung was played into Lee Jin Pyo’s plan of revenge, and upon his discovery, he bellowed with sorrow and pointed his gun at his own head. In that moment, Choi Eun Chan yelled, “Stop it!
Choi Eun Chan knew he had to stand up for his punishment and so he pushed Kim Na Na (Park Min Young) aside, causing momentary confusion. Lee Jin Pyo seized the moment and shot his gun at Choi, only to see that his bullet was intercepted by Lee Yoon Sung.
The surprised Kim Na Na returns fire and hits Lee Jin Pyo’s chest. Lee Jin Pyo yells out that he is the ‘City Hunter’ and takes the rap, as the remaining bodyguards shoot at Lee Jin Pyo, thus ending his life.
Afterwards, Kim Na Na decides to leave her position as a bodyguard, and wait for Lee Yoon Sung to return. The couple experience a happy ending as the two reunite in the future, smiling warmly at each other upon the long-awaited reunion.
Lee Yoon Sung is then seen cruising alone in his car as it leads us to assume that he will continue his destiny as ‘City Hunter’.

8 July:

Park Min Young candidly shared her experiences about acting on ‘City Hunter‘ through a mini-interview.
She began by spotlighting her co-star, actor Lee Minho. The two engaged in some Judo scenes together, and she mused, ”I got trained in Judo for about a month but since there is a significant height difference between me and Lee Minho, there were some risks for injury. But since we shoot Judo scenes very often, Lee Min Ho swiftly falls over when I lift him. He does it well so even though it’s hard, it’s very fun and satisfying when the scenes come out nicely.
She also talked about her role as ‘Kim Nana’. “Nana is a character who faces the hardship of overcoming her scars and pain in her heart. However, she is very bright and brave; she’s an adventurous woman who confesses to Yoon Sung first thinking that she should always be by his side.
Park Min Young revealed her thoughts about her lauded ‘3-step crying scene’ by stating, “Because I teared up while thinking about my own parents, it was a scene that was very close to my heart. I was very thankful that people named it ‘3-step crying scene’ and was very happy when viewers said that they cried along with me. It also made me think that I should work even harder.

On May 19th, upcoming drama “City Hunter” released new still-cuts of Lee Min Ho and KARA’s GooHara, along with a brief synopsis of their relationship.
This scene was recorded on the 8th, in which the two characters met coincidentally for the second time after first encountering each other at the Blue House.
‘Da Hye’, the president’s immature daughter, fell in love with ‘Lee Yoon Sung’ immediately, so she doesn’t hesitate to grab this second meeting as an opportunity to get closer.

Unlike their characters, however, the two were reported to be like siblings on the film set. Hara calls him ‘ahjussi’, while Lee Min Ho calls her ‘Hara Goo.’

18 Mei:

During an interview at the SBS Broadcasting Center on May 17th, actress Park Min Youngconfessed that out of all the co-stars she has worked with so far in her career, she feels most comfortable around her fellow “City Hunter” co-star, Lee Minho.
The actress stated, “We became really good friends five years ago through work. Even though we weren’t able to be in touch a lot, we still knew each other very well.”
She continued, “That’s why I was a bit worried about acting romantic scenes with him. Because I know him too well, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to properly act out heartfelt scenes.”
“However, five years is a long time. Lee Minho and I have both developed and improved as actors in that time frame. I see new sides of him that I couldn’t see before.”
With regards to Lee Minho’s frequent Judo sparring scenes in the drama, Park Min Young commented,“He’s acquired enough skill to the point where he doesn’t need stuntmen to act for him. Judo isn’t only about strength, but also about the harmony, but since Minho is quite athletic and has good coordination, doing shoulder throws comes natural to him now.”

17 Mei:

On May 17th, Lee Min HoPark Min Young, and KARA’s Goo Hara attended the press conference for SBS’s “City Hunter“.
During the event, Lee Min Ho expressed his honest opinion regarding his castmate Goo Hara. He said,
Originally, I was very pessimistic when it came to idols stars and acting. Thanks to Goo Hara, many of my preconceptions have been shattered. When I was a rookie, there were many times in which my pride was hurt and I experienced many hardships. I didn’t like how it seemed that idol stars who made acting debuts had it easy and didn’t go through those experiences.
I didn’t like how everyone struggles through many auditions in order to obtain a small supporting role, but idol stars seem to obtain those roles easily.
However, after meeting Goo Hara and 2AM’s Seulong on “Personal Taste“, Lee Min Ho’s prejudices have changed. He revealed, “Everyone becomes happy when Goo Hara arrives on set. It becomes brighter in an instant.”
On the other hand, actress Park Min Young spoke of her concerns about her acting transformation. She explained,
This is a work that 9 out of 10 opposed. It is a strong work with actions scenes and a strong melodramatic nature. But because I have failed with a melodramatic work in the past, it was hard to take on this challenge. However, I do not worry about whether or not this work will be a big hit. I made my choice according to my heart’s prompting…
I think I get a more competitive mindset when I hear that things can’t do well. ‘City Hunter’ is a work I chose with a competitive mindset… I am practicing a lot for the acting scenes. It feels good to throw down the tall Lee Min Ho.
Lastly, Goo Hara revealed her determination to take on criticisms regarding her acting openly. Goo Hara expresssed,
I started after deciding to take on many criticisms. I always had an interest in acting and I wondered how I would start my acting career. I want to show that I’m going to openly take the inevitable criticisms and I’m going to work hard as I get scolded to show improvements.

When it come to taking criticisms, I will take them head on. I will try my best.

KARA’Goo Hara will be making her debut as an actress through SBS’s “City Hunter“!

Hara built up her acting skills through KARA’s on-going Japanese drama series, “URAKARA“; ”City Hunter” will mark her debut Korean drama role. Hara was cast for the role of the president’s daughter, a spunky young woman who failed to get into college the first time and is studying to make up for it.

Representatives of DSP Media commented, “Whenever we received casting offers for dramas, we were highly concerned with the unresolved controversy surrounding KARA and weren’t able to make a decision. However, acting has been another important course for idol singers lately, so we felt that this would be a great opportunity and decided to cast her for the role after much discussion.”
They continued, “Because of the group’s Japanese promotions, we know that a lot of their Korean fans are disappointed with the lack of Korean activities, which was pressuring to us as well. We’ll be starting by reviving the members’ individual activities in order to further work hard and make sure that KARA can greet their fans as a group once again.”

Actor Lee Min Ho is presently training his body and mind with swimming lessons.
As SBS’s ‘City Hunter’ prepares to go into filming, Lee Min Ho has been taking swimming lessons every day since the end of last year at a hotel swimming pool in Kangnam. He’s shown a sophisticated and sensual side through his previous works, KBS’ ‘Boys over Flowers’ and MBC’s ‘Personal Preference’, but for his new drama, Lee Min Ho will strive to exhibit more of his masculine side through the character, ‘Lee Yoon Sung’ – a previous MIT professor and current Cheongwadae national communications agent.
An association of Lee Min Ho passed on, “While tackling brilliant action scenes that emphasize his long limbs, Lee Min Ho will also be showing off his swimming skills. He’s exercising regularly every day so that he could show a more natural appearance, rather than professional techniques.
Because his breakthrough role in ‘Boys over Flowers’ was with a character who couldn’t swim, Lee Min Ho is determined to show off his swimming skills through this opportunity.
An associate of the drama raised anticipation by hinting, “We’re also planning a shot of Lee Min Ho’s muscular body in the swimming scenes as well.”
