3 January:

It goes without saying that A Pink was the most successful girl group to have debuted in 2011. Their success didn’t come without hard work, though, and their practice video for  ”My My” shows just that.
Dressed in cozy winter outfits, the girls practice each step diligently in an impeccably clean rehearsal room. As is tradition with rehearsal videos, their bare faces stand out, as well as the way they indicate who’s singing with the raised arm.

The girls of A Pink took a short break away from their promotions in order to celebrate Christmas with their fans!

On December 21st, A Cube Entertainment shared photos of the girls hard at work, as they decorate Christmas cards with red pens.
Representatives explained, “We’d love to be able to send each fan a special card, but it’s something that’s just not possible. Instead, we came up with the idea of taking a picture of the handmade cards, so that every fan can see and enjoy them. Although they’re busy with promotions, A Pink is always working hard to come up with new ideas. Please give them your support.”

9 September:
Girl group A Pink have sent their cheerful Chuseok greetings to fans.

The seven members had an interview with Star News, where they all dressed up in different hanboksaccording to their personal style.
A Pink said, “We hope everyone gets together with their family during the Chuseok holiday and have a great time. We also hope that people make many wishes to the full moon and enjoy a year full of good things.”
Since last April, these girls released two hits, “I Don’t Know” and “It Girl“, which had them rushing around for promotions from morning to night. For this holiday season, A Pink will get a two-day vacation. This is the first holiday they’ll be spending with their family since their debut, so it will be very special. When asked about what they wanted to do with their families, they all had different answers.
Member Jung Eunji said, “Seeing my mother and father means a lot, so I’d be happy with doing anything. My mother said this is the Chuseok she is looking forward to the most, so she is making steamed galbi and dumplings. I am looking forward to it, and I’m also feeling a little nervous.”
Yoon Bomi said, “I’m planning to take a family photo with everyone. I have pictures from when I was younger, but not from recent times. I would even take a sticker photo if I had to.”
When asked about their wishes for this holiday, the girls replied, “We want the rookie award for this year.” Hong Yookyung said, “Even though everyone is having a hard time, I hope everyone stays strong. If I’m going to be greedy, I would like the rookie award.”
Jung Eunji added, “I hope we get the rookie award, too. Also, I hope people love our next album.”
To wrap up, A Pink sent a final message to their fans: “We are working towards having our next album come out in October. In order to show a more improved version of ourselves, we’ve all been working on our weak parts, so please look forward to it.”

14 July:

A Pink has arguably become one of the hottest rookies of the year, and the girls will finally be concluding three months of promotions for both “I Don’t Know” and “It Girl” this week.
Representatives of A Cube confirmed, “They’ll be concluding ‘It Girl’ performances with this week’s music programs, and go on a period of break.”
The girls debuted back in April with a sweet concept that brought back the nostalgia of innocent ‘elf’ styles, which were made popular by earlier generations of girl groups like S.E.S. and Fin.K.L.
With two consecutive hits already under their belt, they’re conquering not only the hearts of male fans, but the CF world as well despite having only debuted just a few months earlier.
The girls will be jumping back into preparations for their next album after their break.

Salute! The ladies of A Pink have successfully rocked the hearts of Korean soldiers through a special performance.
On July 7th, a video of A Pink’s performance at a military base was revealed through a fan cafe. The video shows A Pink preparing themselves for their first ever performance for a military unit. While the girls definitely rocked the show, the hot responses from the soldiers drew greater attention.
As soon as A Pink appeared on the stage, soldiers screamed, “We love you, A Pink“, “Don’t leave us“, “Daebak!!” and other loud expressions of love.
Netizens said, “A Pink’s military take-over“, “Ah, so jealous“, “Does this mean they’re army fairies now?“.
A representative of A Cube Entertainment said on the 8th, “Since their debut, they haven’t done any external performances so the unfathomable positive feedback made the members extremely happy. We ask everyone to continue their interest in A Pink“.

29 June:
The time of suffering has come for idol group members, as it is now every school’s final exam period in Korea.

Many of the active girl group members now are high school students, and there used to be some leniency to students with a celebrity status, but things are different now. Excusing a student merely for their celebrity status has been reduced significantly due to recent backlash and criticisms, and it has also been a long while since they stopped letting students take all their tests in one day. Students must now attend school every day and take their tests, especially since the public is keeping a watchful eye.
Aside from A Pink’s leader, Chorong, the remaining six members are students. Even though they are busy promoting their new follow-up single, most of the members can be seen walking around with a book in one hand. Also, their dorm has reference books lying around everywhere, and older, studious members can be seen busily teaching math to their younger members.
Member Na Eun, who attends a contemporary arts high school, was able to complete her exams early compared to her other members because she took practical exams. Na Eun recently stated during an interview, “In our waiting room, in our dorm, whenever I had time, I prepared for my tests.”

A Pink isn’t the only group stressing out because of school. Whenever final exams come around, management officials that foster groups let out a deep sigh because it isn’t easy to organize their schedules, and during this time, school has to be their priority.
One management official stated, “Even about 5-6 years ago it seemed that they were more lenient to celebrities, but it isn’t like that at all anymore. In life, academics are a very important aspect as well. There are some broadcasts that we are disappointed in having to miss out on, but we are trying very hard to make school a priority.”

24 June:

On yesterday’s episode of Mnet’s ‘M! Countdown‘, rookie girl group A Pink performed their first follow-up stage for “It Girl“.
Having already garnered a large fanbase with their ‘butterfly dance’ during their debut promotions, they’ve once again captured the hearts of their fans with their ‘bunny bunny dance’! With headbands fashioned into bunny ears, the girls played up their sweet and innocent images with flowy skirts and cute tops.
Their feminine look was completed with confident lyrics about claiming a man to be theirs. The ‘bunny bunny dance’ is certainly on its way to becoming a hit, as netizens commented, “Such adorable and cute girls”, “I was a girl and my heart still fluttered watching them”, and “Definitely a hit in the making!”

22 June:
On June 21st, the ladies of A Pink revealed a photo taken from backstage of SBS’s “Inkigayo“.

The girls are holding a poetry anthology in their hands, titled “The Cat and the Cactus“. Yookyungrevealed, “We recently received it as a present and began reading it. It’s a lot of fun so we’re reading it when we can.” Na Eun continued, “Because of our rehearsals and schedules, we don’t have a lot of time to read books. Still, when we’re relocating or in our waiting room, we try to read as much as we can.”
When asked about they felt in returning with their follow-up track, “It Girl“, Namju replied, “I feel like we should still be promoting ‘I Don’t Know‘ more so it feels a bit weird.”
Chorong added, “We wore our debut outfits on our final stage for ‘I Don’t Know’. We are also working hard to show a better image with ‘It Girl.’”

2 Juni:
Newsen received the unique opportunity of visiting the A Pink members in their dorm for a fun interview about their living habits and group relations.

The reporter began by asking the girls about how they felt on making their debut. Eunji quickly stated,“We feel sorry. We debuted with such a great song and I feel that it’s not receiving the spotlight it deserves because we’re rookies. If the song was sung by our idol seniors, I feel that it would have received more love.”
Eunji’s a unique member in that she actually dreamt of becoming a vocal trainer, not a singer, so she didn’t go through the formal training process like the rest of her bandmates. However, she joined A Pink around November of last year, and was slotted as their main vocalist right from the start.
When asked whether they were ever jealous of her speedy debut, Bomi answered, “The audition was specifically for the position of main vocalist so we were all curious to see what would happen. Eunji wasn’t always as talkative as she is now.”
Eunji explained, “I felt pressured when they talked to me since we weren’t close, so I’d purposely stay quiet.” Bomi continued, “The six of us did train together though. We had already gone so far ahead in our choreography so I was most worried about Eunji matching that. She did learn fast though.”
-
Prior to their debut, A Pink headlined many times for their strict diet.
Speaking on the topic, the members stated, “We have such a busy schedule, so we don’t have time to exercise. Instead, we have to diet with what we eat. Sometimes we’ll run around the Han River before we head home or use dance training as an opportunity to exercise.”
The interview then moved onto horror films, as Bomi was once quoted saying that she enjoyed films where “characters ate eyeballs or people were de-skinned.“ Bomi, Na Eun, and Eunji are all fans of horror films.
The reporter jokingly wondered to himself whether these were the same girls that pretended to act all shy and cute on stage.
As if reflecting his thoughts, they continued, “It was embarrassing for us to perform like that. We even hated looking at ourselves in the mirror during rehearsals because it was just so awkward having to do things we don’t normally do. We’d find ourselves staring at one another when we made certain gestures. Whenever someone winked, we all fell to the floor in laughter.”
Their manager then walked in with their dinner, which consisted of salad, tofu, and a banana. Over dinner, they were asked what they thought each other’s charms were.
Eunji described maknae Hayoung to be a bubbly and sometimes four-dimensional cutie. Namjudescribed Yookyung as a walking alarm clock since she lives a very proper lifestyle and enjoys doing sudoku puzzles in her free time.
The members then began revealing some of each other’s sleeping habits.
Eunji began, “I was on the internet on my bed and Namju was sitting on the second floor bed across from me. It wasn’t even time for us to be up yet and she was already up so I looked at her. All of a sudden, she got up and went back to bed.”
Yookyung, who wakes up the earliest, also testified, “I woke up at the same time as Namju one morning. I looked over at her and met her gaze, but she suddenly fell back. She hadn’t actually woken up.”
Eunji even revealed that she would record maknae Hayoung’s snoring. “I recorded it for a minute and 20 seconds because I was afraid she’d deny it if I kept it short. She really did deny it even still.”
Noticing their outgoing behavior, the reporter mentioned that they’d be a great fit for variety shows.
The members revealed, “We actually get nervous on variety shows. We once just clapped through the entire show and came home. Fortunately, Bomi’s gorilla impersonation was a really big hit on this week’s ‘100 Points out of 100.‘”
The girls shared that their goal for the year, like any fellow rookie, was to receive a rookie award.
“We want to receive a rookie award and win #1 on a public broadcast music program. We really want to say an awards speech.”

8 Mei:Last month, A Pink made their debut with a sweet and innocent love song called “I Don’t Know.”

With their average age being 18, most of the seven members are still a bit young to know what love really is. Star Today recently sat down with the girls for a unique interview on their ideas of love and relationships.
“Why are men always so hasty?” asked Hong Yoo Kyung. She says she doesn’t have any dating experience, and continues with, “Now that I’ve debuted, I kind of regret not giving it a try. After I joined our agency, there really was no opportunity for me to date anymore.”
She revealed, “Sometimes guys would say they like me and contact me too often, or give me gifts that left a lot of pressure. I become a lot more careful then, and eventually stepped back when the guy became too pushy.”
Jung Eun Ji, who’s probably the most tomboyish out of the group, explained that she didn’t understand why guys put up a front. “They think that they look cool when they put up a front, right? I don’t like guys who act all cool and tough. I seriously hate it when they copy cheesy lines from dramas as well, like ‘You’re an amazing girl.’”
Park Chorong, A Pink’s leader and ’sole adult’ asked, “Why can’t men understand why girls get jealous? Guys tend to think that we get jealous as a way of restricting them.”
Chorong continued, “Isn’t it definite that I’ll get mad and angry when I want to meet him over the weekend, but he cancels because he wants to see his friends? I understand that he has his own problems to deal with, but I don’t understand why he thinks I’m being overzealous.”
Maknae Oh Ha Young, who’s just entered her third year of junior high this year, also lacks dating experience. “I’m not that aware of my surroundings and don’t use a lot of aegyo, so my parents always tell me that it’ll be hard for me to get married. I used to have a really close male friend when I was little, but one day he suddenly confessed his feelings for me. I was really upset when I heard that and cried really hard because it felt like our friendship was over. I still don’t know..”
Kim Nam Ju, like leader Chorong, expressed her discontentment with men failing to understand what makes women tick. ”I really don’t understand insensible men. There are certain things that girls just want to hear, and it’s so easy to just say them. When girls say, ‘That movie looks fun’, isn’t it obvious that she’s implying that she wants to see it with him? When he replies with, ‘Yeah, that looks fun’, that’s a completely wrong response. It’s frustrating when they don’t even try to act like they haven’t seen a movie they already have for the girl’s sake. It’s definite for girls to get mad when all he has to do is think about her that much more and say something she wants to hear.”
Yoon Bomi also added to the girls’ long list of complaints: “Why do girls always have to make the guys confess? It’s really frustrating. If we don’t express ourselves first, they don’t even know that we like them. It’s not easy for girls to confess first, and it’s actually really embarrassing. I know it’s probably the same for guys, but if both parties really like each other, does he really have to wait for the girl to confess first?”
Like the other members, Son Na Eun doesn’t have dating experience as well. “It’s probably the same for other girls, but it’s really hard to step forward and express your feelings for someone first. It takes me a long time to get close with friends when a new school year starts.”
Na Eun continued, “I just have to open myself up to them a bit more and it’s so easy to get close, but it’s still really difficult for me. Maybe that’s why I haven’t dated yet. Would it be faster for me to learn how to get closer with people?”

4 Mei:
On May 1st, rookie girl group A Pink held their first ever fan-meet with 100 special fans at a park after their performance on SBS’s “Inkigayo.”

It’s been a little over a week since their debut, but they’ve already gained a considerable following – one that’s been very vocal in their support from day one. In fact, 200 fans showed up to cheer the girls’ debut stage on “M! Countdown“, surprising industry representatives with A Pink’s unexpected popularity.
The girls personally named their official fanclub as “Pink Panda“, and held a surprise cosplay event in celebration.

1 Mei:In a girl group era where sexy concepts reign supreme, these seven ladies of A Pink bravely debuted with the “blooming of flower buds and the fresh breeze of spring.”

Their style has definitely caught the attention of many, especially those that noticed a style reminiscent of first generation girl groups like S.E.S. and Fin.K.L. back in the 90s. A Pink aimed to do just that, as they revealed that their goal is to recreate the ‘elf-like’ images of the original girl groups.
Chorong stated, “Ever since I was little, I dreamt of becoming a singer by watching seniors like S.E.S and Fin.K.L. I followed their dance moves and copied their clothing style. Now that we’re being called the same ‘elf’ title, it all just feels like a dream.”
It’s only been a week since their debut but they’re already receiving a positive response from K-pop fans that are tired of the same overused sexy concept that girl groups seem to opt for these days.
Jung Eun Ji commented, “I still can’t believe that we’ve actually become singers. It was really cool to see fans come to support us on our debut. I even found out that there was a support chant for us!”
The name ‘A Pink’ itself sparked a lot of discussions (especially amongst international fans) when they first came out. The girls revealed that ‘A’ was an expression of their desire to be the best, and that ‘Pink’, the representative color of innocence, was added since it was their favorite color.
Their debut was just as clean as their name. The girls’ title track, “I Don’t Know“, features innocent lyrics about a girl’s shy love confession, and the choreography for it doesn’t feature anything stimulating aside from sweet dance moves that maximize their cuteness.
Yoo Kyung stated, “Our fans call us ‘Organic Idols’, which we all laughed at when we first heard it. Girl groups these days sing a lot of hook songs and powerful tracks, so our clean and innocent song must have appealed to them. We’re actually a lot more tomboy in style than we look (laughter).”
They’re just now taking the first steps of what will hopefully be a long and fruitful career, but their dream is crystal clear. They’re determined to bring back the popularity of the original elf girl image, and just like how S.E.S. still remains in the memories of music fans, A Pink hopes to achieve the same effect.
They concluded, “Just like there are various shades of pink, we want to become an elf girl group that has the potential for infinite change. Our goal? Our goal is to win #1 on music programs and even take home the rookie award for ourselves (laughter).”

20 April:

Girl group diets have always been a hot topic ever since the daily calorie intakes for SNSDKARA, and many others began circulating on the internet.

Maintaining the much-coveted ‘S-line’ has practically become a duty for girl groups, especially with the speed at which pictures spread on the internet. Netizens are especially brutal when it comes to spotting a bit of weight gain, which inevitably leads to girl groups exclaiming, “The pain of starving is less than that of the pain of receiving a negative response from netizens.”
A Pink is under the same scrutiny, and so they’re tied to a strict diet regimen. Sports Seoul caught up with the girls mid-rehearsal at 5:00 PM, right when their manager turned off their practice music and brought in their dinner.
The menu consists of a salad (lettuce, three baby tomatoes) and canned chicken breast.
They were able to mix their chicken breast into their salad only after their manager stripped the chicken of all the oil in the can.
The girls chowed it down in the blink of an eye, and when asked if they didn’t think the chicken was too dry, the girls replied with a laugh, “It’s still better that it’s there, since it’s meat at least…”
Still, the girls eat three meals a day.  Chorong revealed, “We’re all at the age of growing, so we all have a big appetite. If we don’t eat three meals a day, we get hungry and tire easily during rehearsals. Even if it’s three meals, they’re still controlled…”
For breakfast, they eat radish stock soup or brown rice, and 40g of sugarless cereal. The girls shyly added as a secret, “We grab a handful more when the manager isn’t looking. Even after we eat all of that, we still get hungry after two hours.”
For lunch, they eat corn or sweet potatoes and two bananas. ”It’s still the meal that we feel the most full from out of the day.” If they’re still unbearably hungry, the members are allowed to eat buckwheat noodle soup.
At 5 PM, like mentioned above, the girls end conclude with a dinner of salad. Inevitably, they’re still hungry after a day of intense rehearsals, so they’ll still snack on bananas or nuts like almonds throughout their practice.
After rehearsal ends, they quiet their hunger pangs by going straight to sleep when they return to their dorms. When asked what they wanted to eat the most, they revealed, “Chicken, pizza, coke. We want soondae-soup as well.”
With their impending debut drawing near, what’s a regular day like for them? Literally, their day consists of eating, sleeping, and rehearsing.
Park Chorong and Son Na Eun receive two hours of acting lessons from 9 AM to 11 AM, while the remaining five head to school for their morning lessons. They all group together at 12 PM and eat lunch together till 1 before going straight into an intense rehearsal schedule. Until 5 PM, they take lessons in vocal training and choreography rehearsal.
In order to prepare for future variety show appearances, they also don’t forget to come up with a few personal talents to show off.
After eating dinner from 5 to 6, the girls rehearse nonstop until 3 AM the next day. This is the most intense period for the girls, as they’re trained specifically for live performances like it’s the real deal.
Bomi stated, “Because our stage outfits consist of short skirts and high heels, we have to practice with them on to prevent mistakes.”
Concluding their busy day back at their dorms at 3 AM, the girls still take the time to reflect. Na Eun expressed, “Mainly, we discuss what went good and what went bad during the day. We try to exchange opinions and make a list of what we need to concentrate on for the next day. We’re all extremely happy that we’re able to achieve our dreams right now, even though our rehearsals are tiring.”

On April 18th, Sports Seoul went behind the scenes of A Pink’s rehearsal studio as the girls prepare for their impending debut just days away. Standing before a full wall of mirrors, the girls could be seen practicing the same move over and over, trying out different concepts like ‘cute’ and ‘powerful’.

Drenched in sweat, reporters noted that their movements were very mechanic, like wind up dolls in a sense. Unfortunately, the girls have no option but to work without rest, as they were just two days away from the release of their debut track, “I Don’t Know“.
“I Don’t Know” is a feminine and sweet dance track that brings out the youthfulness of their members. Although it may seem just innocent upon first glance, their dance incorporates some powerful moves that require perfect synchronization by the members.
When Jung Eun Ji (18) makes a mistake, the room erupts in laughter. The oldest, Park Chorong (20), helps out by advising, “You have to pick up your arms with a bit more power.”
The girls revealed that the mirror that stood before them was both a positive present and a negative poison. It’s only the mirror that will catch the mistakes in their choreography or point out an uneven line-up. Unfortunately, the mirror also disappears when they have to stand on stage, making the girls realize that they can’t just depend on the mirror alone.
During their break period, none of the members could be seen resting. Kim Nam Ju (16) stands before a mirror and practices her smiling and other facial expressions while the other members head to their vocal training room for further practice.
Jung Eun Ji and Yoon Bomi (18) both play the role of mentor and student with each other by teaching skills in which the other lacks. As the team’s main vocal, Jung Eun Ji calmly shares her skills with Yoon Bomi, the team’s lead dancer.
In turn, Eun Ji tells Bomi that she “can’t bend her back as well because it hasn’t been that long since she’s begun her dance training.” Bomi returns the favor of Eun Ji’s training by helping her out with her dance.
The members revealed, “We rehearse our choreography over 100 times a day. It’s really hard to dance while singing live, especially since we have to wear high heels on stage. In order to prepare for our debut, we’ve been rehearsing with our high heels on and repeating our choreography.”
The seven members also all boast individual charms and stories. Leader Park Chorong was born and raised in Chungwon and has beautiful features, much liker her ’sparkling’ name.
Son Na Eun (17) studied and dreamed of becoming an artist for the past 13 years and holds a youthful charm that makes her look as if she’s just popped out of a comic book. She’s also noted for being the leading female in B2ST’s music videos like “Soom” and “Beautiful“.
Maknae Oh Ha Young (15) is currently in her third year of junior high, but unlike her young age, she has a mature vibe. “Nobody believes that I’m the team’s maknae,” she shyly states. “But there are people that remember me more easily because of my mature looks.”
Jung Eun Ji is nicknamed the ’second Lizzy‘, as she’s from Busan and speaks in their distinctive dialect. Full of aegyo and friendliness, she carries a charm much like that of After School’s Lizzy, making her a shoe-in for future variety shows.
Hong Yoo Kyung (17) claims herself to be a fan of BoA. She first followed her friend to a dance academy and began learning how to dance before she got chosen to become a singer. Thanks to her doll-like looks, she isn’t an unfamiliar face to viewers, as she was a CF model for Korea’s LG Electronics when she was seven.
Yoon Bomi is a third level Tae Kwon Do athlete that once dreamed of representing her country. After discovering her hidden talents in dance during elementary school, however, she switched dreams to becoming a singer.
The girls’ debut track, “I Don’t Know”, was composed by Super Changddai of 2PM’s “I Hate You” fame. The members said, “Lately, girl groups have been coming out with repetitive hooks and powerful dance songs. In contrast to that, we’re aiming to use our innocent, clean image, much like the groups of the 90s like S.E.S. and Fin.K.L.”
When asked if that was their weapon to surviving the girl group rush, Park Chorong replied, “We didn’t intend to go that route, but seeing as how each of our members held that same innocent image, we decided that it’d be best to play it up.”
