KARA’s Park Gyuri spoke out about the her vocal cord surgery after her operation.
Gyuri tweeted “Why are my vocal cords so stressed? I’m afraid to even voice a sound.” Later she added, “I’m already crying this early in the day. Agh..”
Gyuri was diagnosed last November and completed her surgery on February 21st. She has halted all her schedules to recover.
Netizens replied with encouraging words, “Noona, feel better!“, “A singer’s gold is her voice“, and “We hope to see you healthy again on stage!”

Fans have been worrying about KARA‘s Gyuri after they heard she’d be undergoing surgery to remove the nodule and polyps found in her vocal cords. It seems they can breathe a sigh of relief, as Gyuri left an encouraging message on Twitter to assure fans that she was alright.
On February 22nd, the singer tweeted, “My people, the surgery ended well. Due to the the anesthesia, I was asleep all day yesterday, so I wasn’t able to leave a message. I’ll try to recover quickly so that you’ll be able to hear my good voice. Thank you for worrying about me.”
Although Gyuri had known about the nodules and polyps way beforehand, she held off on her surgery in order to participate fully in the musical, ’200 Pounds Beauty’, as well as perform in the first few shows of the ‘KARASIA’ concert series.
Fans commented, “It’s such a relief that it went well,” “Hope you recover quickly.”
In related news, KARA will be leaving for Japan in April to continue with their ‘KARASIA’ Asia tour.

KARA‘s leader Park Gyuri will be undergoing surgery.
On February 20th, KARA’s agency DSP Media reported, “Park Gyuri will be undergoing surgery on February 21st to remove nodules and polyps that have been found in her vocal cords.”
Although Gyuri knew about her condition, she postponed her surgery in order to perform in musical ‘200 Pound Beauty‘ in which she played a leading role, and to perform at the first few shows of KARA’s first independent concert ‘KARASIA‘.
It even became difficult for Gyuri to speak clearly while MCing MBC‘s ‘Rooloolala‘, which upset many of her fans.
DSP Media continued, “Gyuri’s priority is to focus on rehab to ensure a speedy recovery. KARA has an Asia Tour that kicks off in Japan this April, so we are going with a special rehab program that will allow Gyuri to fully recover before then.”

22 November:
During the rehearsal for the Korean performance for her musical ’200 Pounds Beauty’, Gyuri felt something was wrong and headed to the hospital on November 18th for a check up.
All the performances and rehearsals for the musical that started back in August seems to have finally taken a toll on Gyuri’s throat.
DSP Media stated, “Although the hospital called for absolute rest, Gyuri is regulating her condition while still practicing for her musical. The musical production staff is worried about the condition of her throat, and stated that they will try to work something out for the upcoming performance on December 6th at Seoul’s Choongmoo Art Hall. However, Gyuri has refused and has not stopped practicing.”
Gyuri commented, “Whatever condition my body is in, the performance is a promise with the audience. I know that whatever the excuse is, the audience will not accept it. I wanted to prepare the best stage, but my throat condition is worse than I thought, so I’m really upset. However, I’m trying my best to recover quickly so that I can fulfill my duties on the promised stage.”
She added, “I think of it as my fault that I did not keep my health up in the best possible state. But, I will try my best during practices so that I won’t have a negative effect on the performance.”
26 September:
DSP Media Entertainment stated, “Because of her busy schedule, Gyuri will have to quit the radio show she has been a DJ for the last year and a half. We do not know who Gyuri’s successor will be, but Shindong will have to work solo for the time being.”
Gyuri will be busy with her role in the musical “200 Pounds Beauty“ as well as her schedule with KARA in Japan.
In related news KARA has been busily promoting their new album ‘STEP‘ and has been placing number one on music programs for two consecutive weeks.
6 July:
KARA’s Park Gyuri recently posted some hilarious photos of herself exercising in a unique outfit.
On July 6th, Gyuri tweeted, “At the gym. This is what’s happening right now.” The photo she attached was of her obediently walking on the treadmill in a school uniform. She added, “I’m doing the best that I can. This is not a setup.”
On the same day, she added another two photos with the caption, “At the tanning shop after the gym”and “I received my vocal training. There’s not much of the day left now.”
In the first of the two photos, Gyuri is seen standing and posing in front of a bright blue tannin machine; in the second picture, Gyuri can be seen looking down on a piece of paper during her singing lesson with her vocal trainer instructing in front of her.
These pictures are actually proof-shots; Gyuri was fulfilling her punishment for losing the “Don’t Hang Up” corner on her radio show, “Shindong & Park Gyuri’s Shimshim Tapa”. The punishment was for her to undergo her everyday schedules while wearing a school uniform.

KARA’s leader Gyuri will be releasing an OST single for SBS’s ”City Hunter“.
It’s a project that’s close to her heart, since the drama features fellow member Hara in the cast as well. This new single will be Gyuri’s first opportunity to exhibit her talents as a solo singer.
“I Only Look at You” is a ballad that includes a 24-piece orchestra and acoustic guitar. It will serve as the theme song for the female protagonist, Park Min Young.
The song will be officially available on June 23rd (KST).

It has just been announced that KARA’s Gyuri was treated at the hospital for light stomach cramps. Jiyoungreportedly visited the leader during her hospital stay, showing their close relationship.
On May 9th, KARA’s agency stated, “Park Gyuri visited the hospital on the 8th because she was experiencing stomach cramps. She was treated for light stomach cramps and the doctor told her not to eat fruits with high acidity as her stomach is not in a good condition.”
They added, “Her symptoms aren’t severe, so fans don’t need to worry.”
Gyuri tweeted the day before about her stomach cramps, asking, “What should I eat during this time? Even if I eat a fruit, I can’t keep it down… Can I eat dairy products? Please tell me.”
Jiyoung comforted her groupmate, tweeting, “Unnie I know how you feel. Are you okay? You have to go to the hospital.”
The leader replied, “I know how it feels.. Once my work is done, I’m going to the hospital.”

On May 7th, KARA’s Gyuri will be giving an hour-long lecture at Seo Woon High School in Incheon.
The idol was invited to speak because of a survey which asked Seo Woon High School’s students to name their #1 career choice; overwhelmingly, they all replied that they hoped to become celebrities.
As a senior in the industry, Gyuri will be giving a lecture and answering any questions they may have before jumping into it.
DSP Media revealed that she’ll be putting her full experience out there in order to give the students realistic help, as well as pinpointing the positives and negatives of the career.
Gyuri commented, “I was first recommended for the lecture through my professor, and I rejected it because I didn’t think I was someone worthy to give a lecture on the topic. I decided to change my mind when I realized that I had my mother to ask for advice while I was contemplating the career, but that these students probably didn’t. It must be so daunting for them, so I changed my mind. I hope that I’ll be able to help them in some way.”

Recently, pictures of KARA’s Park Gyuri returning to the MBC radio ‘Shim Shim Ta Pa‘ were uploaded onto the official website. In the pictures, Gyuri is seen receiving a congratulations cake and blowing out the candles. However, it was her frail appearance that has captured attention of fans.
After seeing the photos, fans commented, ‘Welcome back’, ‘It’s a pity’, ‘Park Gyuri fighting!’, and ‘Looks like you worried a lot’.
Gyuri returned as a DJ on ‘Shim Shim Ta Pa’ on March 21st after a two month absence.
27 Februari: On February 27th, KARA’s leader, Park Gyuri attended the screening for “Alpha and Omega” at the Seoul COEX Megabox.
After the movie ran, she greeted viewers in the theater, “Hello, this is Park Gyuri, who played the role of ‘Kate. Did everyone have fun watching? Whoever did Kate’s voice dubbing did an excellent job! Please spread a lot information about the movie and give lots of love to ‘Alpha and Omega.’ Thank you.”
Aside from the Megabox, Park Gyuri will be greeting viewers at many other theatres before leaving for Japan with KARA on the 28th.
