Superstar Ha Ji Won became the talk of the town a few months back when she declared that she was tackling new blockbuster project called “Sector 7“, a movie that involved monsters, some intense action scenes, and a tough new look.
Fans of her “Secret Garden” character were thrilled at seeing Ha Ji Won bring back her fierce side for this new work, and many of us were envious of the lucky Korean fans who got to watch the movie in local theatres.
CJ Entertainment America has revealed to allkpop that “Sector 7″ will now become available to fans in the States. Starting September 16th, the movie will be playing in select theatres across the country!

Synopsis:
Something awaits 8,000 feet under the sea off the southern tip of Jeju Island.
‘The Eclipse’ is an offshore drilling rig stationed at Sector 7, a mining area in the vast open sea located off the southern tip of Jeju Island. The oil drilling excavations end in failure and headquarters gives the order for the crew to withdraw.
Captain Jeong Man (Ahn Sung Ki) is sent to oversee the crew’s withdrawal from the Eclipse. However, Hae Ju’, the equipment manager (Ha Ji Won), is adamantly opposed to the headquarters’ order, as she’s certain that oil could be discovered in Sector 7. Motivated by Hae Jun’s conviction, the Captain allows one last drilling exercise.
While Hae Jun and the crew are fully engaged in their final attempt, they lose communication with headquarters, and the crew is overwhelmed by the feeling that something is out there.
As bodies begin disappearing one by one, the surviving few need to think fast and fight for their lives in a gruesome battle against the mutant monster from the sea. Survival looks unlikely, but Hae Jun and the crew are determined to take any chance to get out of Sector 7 alive.

Ha Ji Won explained her character in the movie as, “A warrior who is tougher than men.”
When the reporter brought up her label as the “Korean Angelina Jolie”, she said, “Although I feel very honored, my role model is actually Meryl Streep.”
Ha Ji Won, who’s gained the image of a ‘female action star’, also revealed, “I want to do a melodrama and a romantic comedy again. I want to be an actress like Meryl Streep who does many versatile roles, even in her 50s and 60s.”
Speaking on the high possibility of “Sector 7″ expanding to movie theatres in 46 countries, Ha Ji Won commented, “Although I haven’t thought about it yet, I believe we could do it if we had the chance, since I’m a person who likes adventure.”
“Sector 7″ premiered very recently on August 4th, but it’s already climbing up to the number one spot at the box office, with a total of 1,354,680 viewers in just four days.

Actor Oh Ji Ho recently talked about acting alongside actress Ha Ji Won for the first time in his career.
On July 26th, the actor attended a press conference for the movie ‘Sector 7‘ and stated, “This was a movie in which the harmony between all the actors was the best.”
‘Sector 7′ captures the struggles aboard the Eclipse, which is an oil drill ship floating over Sector 7, an underwater oil field located south of Jeju Island. An unknown creature attacks the crew of the ship as they try to survive. Oh Ji Ho plays ‘Kim Dong Soo’, an oil analyst for the ship.
The actor also opened up about his kiss scene with actress Ha Ji Won, saying, “I had a kiss scene with Ha Ji Won in the movie, but it was a little disappointing. It was portrayed very lightly in the movie, so I hope I’ll get to have another kiss scene with her in another movie.”
He also stated about the actress, “She laughs very easily so it was easy pairing up with her.”
Oh Ji Ho showed his excitement for the movie, “When I was filming for the movie last year, my friends joked at my appearance and asked if I was playing a miner. I’m glad that it’s finally being unveiled.”
‘Sector 7′ is the first Korean movie to be shown in 3D and will open in theaters on August 4th.3

Released on July 6th, fans were able to see workers preparing to battle against an ocean sea monster. Posing against a red sunset, the main characters - Ha Ji Won, Ahn Sung Gi, and Oh Ji Ho – pose fiercely as they wait for the battle to begin.
Because of Korea’s female warrior, Ha Ji Won, the poster seems to exude a strong charisma. Her powerful stare and sleek muscles (reportedly created through weight training) made fans curious about the kind of action scenes she’ll deliver in the movie.

22 June:
Up until now, Ha Ji Won has taken on a variety of roles in her movie filming career, including a boxer, a stunt woman, and an officer. For “Sector 7″, she will play the role of an oil rig equipment manager who is forced to fight an ocean sea monster.
It has been revealed that Ha Ji Won underwent strenuous exercises to prepare for her action-packed role. She spent eight hours a day swimming and lifting weights and even went as far as obtaining licenses in both scuba diving and motorcycling.
Moreover, in order to realistically portray her role as an oil rig manager, she pumped up her muscle mass to which her personal trainer said, “She has the most muscle mass out of all the actresses in Korea”.
Ha Ji Won stated, “I have a petite physique, so I concentrated on weight training to prevent my action scenes from looking weak and powerless.” A “Sector 7″ representative further added, “There were scenes that involved explosions and dangerous stunts, but Ha Ji Won didn’t use a stunt double and did all of the scenes herself in order to create a perfect woman warrior.”
“Sector 7″ will be released on August 4th in 3D.
