Kiss & Cry

16 August:

Figure skater Lee Dong Hoon and f(x)’s Krystal showcased an outstanding lift and subsequently placed first on SBS’s figure skating reality program, Kiss & Cry‘. They were given the privilege of being on the ‘Ice Show‘ stage along with Kim Yuna and other national figure skaters.
Holding a mini-interview in her dressing room at Olympic Stadium on August 15th, Krystal revealed that she felt intimidated going on the ‘Ice Show’ and added that she didn’t expect first place.
Krystal said, “On the day of the last contest, mistakes were being made during the lift and it was unstable during practice. The other cast members were exhibiting excellent skating skills, so I didn’t expect to win.
Meanwhile, Lee Dong Hoon commented, “Even though I’m an athlete, there were times when I wanted to give up. On the other hand, Krystal doesn’t give up no matter how hard and tired she is. Her perseverance in achieving greatness was inspiring.
Lee Dong Hoon also revealed the real reason behind how Krystal was able to handle such a fantastic lift. He complimented, “I was surprised by Krystal when we were performing the lift. When you’re performing a lift, you can’t flex your entire body; there are some parts you have to loosen up and some parts where you have to flex. However, Krystal had a great sense of that. It’s not something you learn and I think Krystal was gifted with that intuition.
After performing the awe-striking lift, Krystal was asked by fellow f(x) members and other friends to teach them how to skate; in addition, Krystal stated that she will continue to ice skate.

14 August:

The August 14th episode of SBS’s ‘Kim Yuna’s Kiss & Cry‘ captivated viewers with its impressive performances and finally revealed the winners of the show, who would have the honor of participating in Kim Yuna’s upcoming ice show ‘Samsung Galaxy★Hauzen All That Skate Summer 2011‘.
We previously reported that f(x)’s Krystal and Lee Dong Hun would attempt the highest difficulty liftduring this episode. Well, not only did they manage to successfully pull off the difficult lift, but they also wowed both the judges and viewers with their best performance yet.
Krystal and Lee Dong Hun skated to Bizet’s famous ‘Carmen‘ for this performance, and Krystal impressed viewers with her successful transformation into the passionate Carmen. During the climax of the performance, Lee Dong Hun looked like he was almost giving Krystal a back hug, but then surprised everyone by proceeding to rip off Krystal’s red skirt.

The judges did not hold back their praises when addressing the skating couple, and Kim Yuna rated their performance with an almost perfect score of 9.9, the highest she has ever given on the show. The figure queen even commented, “There were no flaws to point out.”
The judges also managed to tease the two by asking if they were dating in real life, with coach David Wilson commenting, “Just makes me wonder… is there something going on between the two of you?”, to which Krystal and Lee Dong Hun responded to with a resounding “No, not at all!”. Judge Park Hae Mialso directed towards Lee Dong Hun, “Dong Hun still can’t look at Krystal properly. You have a crush on her don’t you? To be honest, isn’t she very attractive?“, to which Dong Hun replied, “I think you have the wrong idea“, causing much laughter amongst viewers.
We also reported earlier about how Son Dambi put on her best ‘Kiss and Cry’ performance. Along with her partner Cha Oh Reum, the skating couple managed to pull off a beautiful and thrilling performance, with Son Dambi transforming into an ice queen with an electric violin, and Cha Oh Reum playing the role of a man imprisoned in handcuffs who was being awakened by the ice queen. The two skated out a beautiful love story on ice that was full of powerful spins and jumps.

The judges praised their performance with high compliments, and Son Dambi shed tears towards the end expressing how sad she was that the show was coming to an end.
It was a long journey for all the contestants, but in the end, it was Krystal and Lee Dong Hun who received the honor of first place on the show. Krystal expressed her gratitude for receiving the title, but commented, “I can’t believe this happened. We all worked so hard to get here, it makes me sad that we have to pick a winner“, and shared the honor of first place with all her fellow performers.
‘Kim Yuna’s Kiss & Cry’ will air its final episode on the 21st, and will showcase an iceshow featuring Kim Yuna, Krystal, and Lee Dong Hun.

On the June 12th broadcast of SBS’s “Kim Yuna’s Kiss & Cry“, Yunho and his skating partner,Claudia Mueller, gave a pair-skating performance from the musical “Grease“.
In the last episode, Yunho, who placed 1st during the first singles performance, was unable to practice much for the pair-skating performance because of his overseas schedule. Because of this, he gave a sluggish performance during the half-way evaluation.
Yunho revealed, “I was so shocked during the half-way evaluation that I wondered if I would be able to stand on stage. We have a performance, but I just came back from abroad today.”

The two skaters were much more in sync during the actual performance, but because of the lack of practice time, Yunho did make some mistakes.
The experts stated that Yunho’s skating was good, but that they were disappointed by his mistakes. Skater Kim Yuna stated, “Your spiral was good, but I was a little disappointed in the speed.” SingerKim Jang Hoon commented, “I liked that you didn’t get flustered when you fell and got back up.”
Meanwhile, the pair received a score of 33.7 for their performance.

Photos from the day were released simultaneously along with the news.
The staff on set said, “Kim Yuna showed skills that were as good as a singer’s during her solo parts, which allowed the recording session to end earlier than scheduled. The parts that they sang together also went flawlessly due to their great teamwork.”
They added, “The whole session went really well because of Kim Yuna’s amazing vocals and musical sensibilities. Kim Yuna hopes that the song will help boost the show’s popularity.”

In the latest episode of SBS’s “Kiss & Cry“, singer IU finally managed to redeem herself by impressing everyone with a complex routine.
IU entered the rink in a sweet cheerleader uniform alongside her partner, Choi In Hwa, who was dressed as a baseball player. The two performed a cute cheerleading routine to the tune of “Girlfriend“.
The judges were especially impressed by IU’s ability to pull off smooth spirals and tunnel between her partner’s legs, all of which earned her a round of applause from the audience.
Compared to her awkward start in the show’s pilot episode (where she ranked 10th), many were of the opinion that she had certainly improved.
SBS representatives commented, “Despite her busy schedule, IU has been making regular visits to the ice rink to practice her skating.  Her improved skills have surprised us well.”

TVXQ’s Yunho transformed into John Travolta for SBS’s “Kiss & Cry”.
Yunho is usually known for his powerful and charismatic dancing, but he has decided to prepare a new look for a fresh entrance in the upcoming competition, which will air on June 12th.
Shamelessly brushing his hair back with an over-sized wide tooth comb was a given, as he went on to flawlessly pull off the cute and serious, yet swagger-filled playboy act. Park Hae Mi, seated on the special judge panel, praised Yunho commenting, “It’s as if I’m seeing John Travolta himself.
Claudia Mueller, who gained fame as an ‘ulzzang’ figure skater, took the role of Sandy, as she and Yunho showcased their vibrant skills on the ice.
It is said that the mere entry of the ‘visual couple’ of “Kiss & Cry”, Yunho and Claudia, made the audience scream in excitement due to their beauty.
Grabbing the audience’s attention with a glamorous entry, the couple’s performance set the stage on fire with catchy old school music and flashy spins.

7 June:
Although SBS’s “Kim Yuna’s Kiss & Cry” changed their broadcasting time, they once again witnessed the humiliation of having their viewer ratings drop.

On June 6th, AGB Nielson Media Research recorded the viewer ratings of the June 5th broadcast of “Kiss & Cry” as 5.7%, which is 2.5% lower than their May 29th broadcast, which came in at 8.2%.
“Kiss & Cry” was broadcast during the second segment of the “I Like Sunday” corner for the first time, as “Kiss & Cry” had previously been broadcast in the first segment at 5:20 PM. ”Kiss & Cry” was the follow-up program to “Heroes” and its time slot was switched with “Running Man“, which was originally aired during the first segment, in hopes of better ratings.
However, though the show was placed in the first segment to generate better ratings, it faced competition from MBC’s “I Am A Singer” and KBS 2TV’s “Qualifications of Men“.
Therefore, its order was switched with “Running Man” once again, but it had an embarrassing result when the show received lower ratings than before. On the other hand, “Running Man” had 7.0% viewer ratings, which exceeds their previous week’s 6.2% rating.
On that particular day, the competing shows had the following ratings: KBS 2TV’s “1 Night, 2 Days” recorded 25.9% and MBC’s “New Employee” came in at 4.5%.

After coming away with a win on the pilot episode of ”Kiss & Cry“, TVXQ’s Yunho seems to be struggling to keep his title due to his overwhelming schedule.
The show’s June 5th episode focused on the stars’ preparations for their performances. Throughout his training period, Yunho kept apologizing to his partner, Claudia Mueller. Because of TVXQ’s upcoming world tour and Japanese promotions, the two had only two days to train.
Even with the two days, Yunho could only train in the early morning, which was difficult for Mueller, who’s a student in junior high school. She commented, “We’d train from midnight until two or three in the morning, so it was very tiring.”
The lack of preparations showed in the way their steps would tangle. Yunho fell over while holding Mueller up and continued to fall during all of the spins and spirals required for their performance.
Instead of expressing frustration, however, Yunho seemed more apologetic towards Mueller and had a difficult time holding up his head in front of her.
Judge Kim Yuna commented, “In ice dancing, the man must throw himself on the floor if he has to in order to protect the woman from a fall. It’s harder for couples than singles when there isn’t enough practice. It didn’t really live up to my expectations.”
In the following interview, Yunho said, “I think I felt too safe because I had won our opening show. I am most apologetic towards my dongseng, Claudia Mueller.”
Check out whether Yunho manages to overcome the obstacles on June 12th!

Figure skating coach Choi In Hwa revealed that he felt like the sky was falling on him when IU was selected to be his partner.
On the June 5th broadcast of SBS’s “Kiss & Cry“, viewers saw the stars’ status reports as they prepared for their first couple match which will be shown next week.
Prior to the partner set-up, the stars and trainers sat down for interviews, during which Choi In Hwa said, “I want to work with someone who is athletic“, pointing out f(x)’s Krystal specifically.
He explained himself by saying, “People around me have said that I didn’t look too happy when I became partners with IU. I was just being serious, but people took it the wrong way.
But viewers found that Choi In Hwa couldn’t hide his disappointment when he was partnered with the last place contestant. The trainer explained, “I felt like the sky had fallen. I was waiting for them to partner me with Krystal, but when IU was the only one left, I didn’t know what to do. I was really sad.
IU, upon discovering her trainer’s reaction, exclaimed, “He was disappointed?! I didn’t notice cause he didn’t show it. Was he acting towards me?“.
Still, she expressed her strong will by telling him, “If you teach me, you will feel a sense of accomplishment. Since I’ve already shown everything, I won’t be disappointing anyone anymore.
On June 12th, “Kiss & Cry” will be having their first elimination from one of the ten teams.

f(x)’s Krystal has been put up on the chopping block once again for her rude attitude, only this time it was on SBS’s “Kiss & Cry“.
June 5th’s episode revealed the stars’ preparation process as they geared up for their first performance. Immediately, viewers noticed an air of tension between Krystal and her trainer, Lee Dong Hoon.
Like any trainer would, Lee attempted to teach Krystal from the basics, step by step. However, Krystal proved to be a bit of a difficult student, “He only teaches me the basics, and basics are no fun.”
With a sigh, Lee remarked, “It was difficult to train her because she refused to learn the basics. She would just stand there, and even when I told her to skate, she wouldn’t.”
Some viewers felt that Krystal’s poor attitude escalated when she bluntly stated, “He’s a poor instructor because he’s only used to singles. It’s really frustrating.” Lee is also seven years her senior, but Krystal didn’t hesitate to glare at him whenever their opinions clashed.
Netizens expressed, “Is she immature or what? She really doesn’t know how to manage her image”, and “She received so much hate for her rude attitude last time and she’s doing it again.”

During the latest recording of SBS’s “Kiss & Cry“, Krystal and her partner created a partner routine that resembled the love story of ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
Krystal dressed like a ballerina with her white, flowing outfit, and impressed the audience with her strong posture and flexibility. In fact, Kim Yuna complimented Krystal when she stretched her entire body over her partner’s bent knees with perfect positioning.
Kim Yuna praised, “That was a beautiful movement.”

Child actress Jin Ji Hee figure-skated to SNSD’s “Hoot” for her performance on “Kiss & Cry“.
To the amusement of fans, she dressed up in a similar outfit to SNSD’s stage outfit, and even sported go-go boot-like skates.
In the interview prior to the performance, Jin Ji Hee confessed, “I’m not really good at skating but since I’m an actress, I will make sure to express myself well. I hope Yuna-unni likes it.”
She did fall a little, but managed to keep her smile till the end. Kim Yuna noted that Jin Ji Hee pulled Yuna’s signature “Danse Macabre” pose, and asked why Jin Ji Hee said, “I did it on “HighKick Through the Roof” but I wanted to do it better this time around.”
Though she showed a lot of energy and effort, she was not able to receive the score she wanted.
After the performance, Jin Ji Hee got a little teary-eyed and said, “I don’t like Yuna unnie because she gave me a low score.”

IU is currently practicing quite diligently to redeem herself of her less-than-perfect performance onSBS’s “Kiss & Cry“.
On May 29th, the “Kiss & Cry” star performance ranking was released, and IU came in last out of the 10 spots.
It seems like she is practicing at the moment to make up for her poor performance from last time, as every time she goes on to the rink to practice, she spends around five hours doing so.
IU said, “My thigh muscles are aching so badly because I used muscles that I don’t usually use. However, I can’t practice lazily.”
One related source said, “IU is the type of person who needs to perfectly finish off one task to move onto the next”, and it was revealed that when she’s training, she barely eats or drinks.
Her male figure skating partner said, “By the next time she’s on the show, IU will have gone through a complete transformation.”
The PD of “Kiss & Cry” said, “IU is really trying very hard and improving. I hope viewers will cheer her on.”

30 Mei:
An interesting scene featuring f(x)’s Krystal that occurred during the filming of SBS’s “Kim Yuna’s Kiss & Cry” was revealed.

According to the May 27th reports from SBS, Krystal screamed out loud, “Aaakk~~” during the filming for a performance on the show, which took place at the SBS Production Center in Ilsan on May 24th. Her scream came out naturally as the performance required her male partner to lift and spin her around.
Krystal explained, “I couldn’t help but scream because it was so scary.”
Krystal’s coach added, “For someone to scream like that during a performance is a very rare occurrence. There’s cases when couples quietly count, ‘1-2…1-2′ to match each other, but this is the first time I witnessed something like Krystal’s scream.”
On this day, Krystal safely finished her prepared routine, receiving a big round of applause from the audience.

23 Mei

On May 22nd, SBS’s “Kiss & Cry” aired its pilot episode, which featured 10 top stars taking part in Korea’s first ever skating reality program.
“Kiss & Cry” might have been too ambitious, or maybe it’s because the two-month training period was too short to try and master the sport, as viewers thought that the show failed to live up to its expectations.
Lee Ah Hyun was the first up and took to the stage with her daughter. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to receive an adequate score due to her lack of skill. Through tears, she commented, “I was personally going through a difficult time in my life, and without ‘Kiss & Cry’, I’m not sure I would’ve been able to overcome it. I wanted to show my daughter what I was capable of.”
f(x)’s Krystal performed “Tango” and showed off a variety of tricks (spiral with a chair) which stunned Kim Yuna and the judges. TVXQ’s Yunho garnered the most points with 35.3 score thanks to his display of complex spins and jumps. He also earned a favorable review from speed skater Lee Kyu Hyuk.
Unfortunately for IU, Seo Ji SukSon Dambi and the rest of the cast, they failed to impress their audience. Viewers thought that IU didn’t show much other than singing her song, “Good Day”, for a few minutes on the ice. Judge Go Sung Hee coldly remarked, “It was nice listening to your song.”
After the broadcast, netizens commented, “All of the skills of the contestants failed to live up to expectations”, “They need a gimmick other than Kim Yuna”, and “There was nothing much to watch.”

Having been cast for SBS’s figure skating variety show, “Kim Yuna’s Kiss & Cry“, f(x)’Krystalrecently sat down for an interview with Asia Today and shared her experiences.
“I fell so many times while rehearsing that I now have bruises on my knees. It’s still really fun and I’m totally charmed by the entire sport of figure-skating,” she began.
Moving onto the topic of working with Kim Yuna, she commented, “It was hard for me to regard her as anyone other than a world star, but she’s extremely caring and tries to make everyone comfortable. She shares fun stories with me and we’ve gotten a lot closer by talking to each other more. When would I ever get a chance to be close to a national hero like this?”
When asked about how her first recording went, she replied, “Getting on the ice made me really nervous and I didn’t have a lot of time so I wasn’t able to rehearse as much. The day before the recording, my choreography was changed up so I had to memorize it just a few hours before I was to go in. I am a bit disappointed with that.”
Krystal also gave a thumbs up for the atmosphere on set. “It’s tiring physically, but spending time with the other nine members of the show is fun. Park Jun Geum and Lee Ah Hyun are both older than I, but I don’t feel the age difference at all and they treat me comfortably.”
“Kiss & Cry” will premiere on May 22nd.

Although it’s just the first recording, producers jokingly remarked how there’s already a tension in the air between the castmates.
PD Kim Jae Hyuk concluded, “Overall, we completed our first recording on a good note. I’m glad most of all to Kim Yuna for doing so well despite it being her first time. Everyone is working so hard for this, I’m expecting a lot of great things.”
