Spy Myung Wol

5 September:
Netizens are expecting a happy ending for KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol’.

On the episode that aired on the 30th of August, Myung Wol (Han Ye Seul) hid her true feelings for Kang Woo (Eric) with a cold threat, “Shut up. You still don’t know? I could kill you on the spot right now for my country. That is who I am”.
While during the last scene of the same episode, Kang Woo proposed to Myung Wol, “Han Myung Wol, let’s get married. And let’s live here together”, leaving the viewers unsure about whether the ending of the drama would be a sad or happy one.
However, wedding photos of Kang Woo and Myung Wol have surfaced from the set on the 5th, leading netizens to believe that there may be a happy ending in store for the drama after all. The producers could be also pulling a fast one as the surfaced photos could actually be from a dream sequence.

18 August:
Despite their awkward beginning, the cast, staff, and leading stars of KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol‘ reconciled their differences during their lunch break.

After actress Han Ye Seul completed shooting her scenes in the morning, the crew broke for a lunch break. Prior to the lunch break, it was reported that the atmosphere between Han Ye Seul and co-starEric was awkward and icy. That tension was broken after Han Ye Seul gave a deep apology while kneeling on the ground; Eric responded with, “Resolve the awkwardness, fighting!“.

The atmosphere returned to normal afterwards, as laughter was heard and conversations flowed ceaselessly. Eric and Han Ye Seul were finally able to face each other, and Go Young Tak (KBS’s drama director), EP Lee Kang Hyun, CP Jung Song Hyo, and PD Hwang In Hyuk managed to converse without any awkwardness.
The staff and cast ate samgyeoupsal (pork belly) while lightly drinking beer and cola, relaxing before filming resumed for the afternoon. The staff tapped Han Ye Seul’s back to express their support and encouraged her to work diligently as they continued filming.
Han Ye Seul apologized, “There were some difficulties in filming that made me feel sad. However, I later found out that it was all a misunderstanding. After causing this incident, I am thankful that I was welcomed warmly when I returned. Even if I opened my heart to everyone, it wouldn’t be enough. I’ll use all the strength I drew from these difficulties to film my parts.“.
Han Ye Seul began to cry, as she could no longer hold back her tears in. Upon hearing the apology, the faces of the staff and actors reportedly got brighter and everyone resolved to work harder than ever.

16 August:

On August 16th, the production company of KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol‘, Lee Kim Productions, released an official statement claiming that they will be suing actress Han Ye Seul on civil and criminal chargesdue to her refusal to meet her filming commitments.
Their official press release reads as follows:
“We would like to make a statement as the production company of KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol’ regarding actress Han Ye Seul’s behavior on refusing to film and making inexcusable absences.
On August 15th, the episode originally scheduled to air was instead replaced by a special highlights reel. The reason that such an event had to occur was because of actress Han Ye Seul’s refusal to show up for filming, which in turn, caused a delay in every other schedule.
During the drama’s production process, Han Ye Seul made requests that asked for the script to be edited in her favor in addition to schedule changes. She was also late several times, but each time, producers worked with patience to communicate with her on a level that would allow the film set to run smoothly.
Despite their efforts, Han Ye Seul refused to film and cut off communication by disappearing, making it impossible for co-stars and staff to continue filming for the drama.
The set had many actors and staff who were preparing to film, but ultimately had to wait for long periods of time in severe rain. Having anticipated Han Ye Seul’s arrival, they couldn’t help but feel empty after hearing that she had left overseas. Because of one person’s rash decision, the situation has escalated to such unfortunate heights, making it impossible for the drama to stay on schedule.
We trust that as an actress with 10 years of experience, she would have known the consequences of what happens when an episode is canceled due to inadequate footage. Despite knowing such facts, she left the set without any sense of responsibility for her actions, and we can’t help but criticize her wrong-doings. Even during the exact moment she left Korea, many junior and senior co-stars as well as staff remained at the scene, waiting for her return.
We would like to emphasize that there is absolutely no justification for Han Ye Seul’s actions. Refusing to film is an irresponsible act that not only breaks her promise with the viewers, but is incomprehensible by her fellow co-stars and staff.
Co-star Eric in particular had a lot of hopes for this drama, since it is his first project after he returned from his military service. Like Han Ye Seul, he too had a tight schedule, but still managed to work through it.
After the fifth episode, Han Ye Seul began making countless requests to cut down her scenes, forcing Eric to take on more than he had to. Still, he held it in and worked through them, knowing that it was his duty as an actor.
Not only that, but Eric also played the role of mediator between Han Ye Seul and the producers whenever she showed signs of refusing to film. It was Eric who persuaded her to return and made the extra effort to ensure that the film set was running in a positive environment.
Unfortunately, Han Ye Seul’s irresponsible actions have turned the efforts of her co-stars and staff into a complete waste.
Furthermore, because of her refusal to film and her inexcusable absences, our production company has met with severe damages and losses, all of which is the fault of Han Ye Seul.
We express our pity towards Han Ye Seul who made a decision that’s unfitting for a public figure, and would like to inform you that we have taken civil and criminal actions against her to recover from the damages we are currently suffering from.
We would like to once again apologize for having to air a special reel in place of the next episode of ‘Spy Myung Wol’.”

15 August:

Actor Lee Kyun, who’s currently shooting ‘Spy Myung Wol‘ with Han Ye Seul and Eric, took to Twitter recently to express his thoughts on the on-going dispute that’s haunting the drama.
Lee Kyun wrote “Everyday is excessive. As someone who is present in this excessive situation, it got me thinking about a lot of things. My day flew by with me waiting on standby for 8 hours. More than today, I am worried about tomorrow. Uhng-Uhng“. After reading this, Lee Kyun’s friends responded with concern.
A friend of Lee Kyun’s said, “Kyun-ah, you are suffering so much. But I’m still hoping that you’ll endure until the drama ends,” to which Lee Kyun replied, “I will always faithfully work hard.
The reason why Lee Kyun wrote these words on Twitter was to express his stifling feelings about Han Ye Seul’s refusal to show up for filming.

On August 14th, Han Ye Seul failed to show up for her scheduled filming. At the time, Han Ye Seul’s representatives stated that her absence was due to health issues; it was later revealed that it wasactually due to a conflict between Han Ye Seul and the production crew.
Filming on August 14th went on without her scenes.
However, just as Lee Kyun feared, recording on August 15th was cancelled altogether when Han Ye Seul continued to not show up. A source stated, “The current situation is ‘half cancelled, half standby’. Han Ye Seul has to come back in order for the other actors to continue, but there has been no contact.
Consequently, the day’s broadcast is in a critical condition, and it looks as if an episode of highlights will be aired instead.
After hearing this news, netizens commented “Even though Lee Kyun’s broadcast quantity amounts to about 5-10 minutes he works that hard…“, “Please come back Han Ye Seul-sshi“, “Couldn’t you come back for the other actors?“, and “I feel bad for Lee Kyun, the other actors, and crew“.

Following the intense media attention surrounding the back-and-forth exchange between actress Han Ye Seul and KBS, her co-star Eric has finally expressed his honest opinions regarding the situation. To recap, Han Ye Seul has refused to show up for her filming commitments with ‘Spy Myung Wol‘ since August 14th, holding up the production schedules of everyone involved and forcing the crew to come up with a quick highlights reel for this week’s episode due to insufficient footage.

On August 15th, Eric spoke through an interview with Newsen, saying,
Though the viewer ratings and reports for ‘Spy Myung Wol’ haven’t been that great, the rest of the actors and I have been enduring it and doing our best while thinking, ‘If we work hard, there will be good results’. Of course, my tight schedule and filming itself have been a little hard, but I’ve been trying my best to keep my promise with the viewers.
Haven’t we all gone through tough times will working on ‘Spy Myung Wol’ and other dramas? Isn’t it the same for all the other actors? I believe that overcoming and fighting through these struggles is the responsibility of the actor.
I believe that staying out of reach and causing the drama to stop is not right.  I wish Han Ye Seul would hurry and return to the set. I want to achieve a successful conclusion with mutual understanding.
Eric had been caught in between Han Ye Seul and their PD since the beginning of ‘Spy Myung Wol’. When Han Ye Seul initially suggested changing PDs, Eric said, “If the PD changes now, it’ll have a bad effect“. A representative said that even through that, Han Ye Seul completed her filming smoothly. There is a rumor that said the producers and staff met with the actors to listen to both sides of the argument.
Meanwhile, there have been a barrage of reports since the afternoon of August 15th, stating that Han Ye Seul had left for America on a 3PM flight under her real name, Leslie Kim. Supposedly, Han Ye Seul went to Los Angeles to visit her parents.
There have also been reports through social media networks from those who reportedly sighted her at the airport waiting for her flight. But there’s no verification about her exact whereabouts yet, as her agency and production company have been unable to get in contact with her since.

Spy Myung Wol’s male lead, Eric, has reportedly been on standby for over 16 hours.
Eric is currently confined at home and has been waiting for over 16 hours for his drama shoot to resume. He has not been able to sleep well, as he’s been anxiously waiting for a call to return to the set. On August 14th and 15th, ‘Spy Myung Wol’s female lead Han Ye Seul failed to show up for filming, causing the other actors’ schedules to be cancelled. Because the drama airs in a live-broadcast fashion, they will have to rush into filming immediately once Han Ye Seul returns.
Eric is in a situation where he has been waiting for filming to restart since 7PM on August 14th. Because he is unsure of when filming will continue, he was unable to change out of his costume and makeup.

One source stated on August 15th, “Eric has been waiting for filming for over 16 hours now. I don’t understand what kind of unbelievable situation this is. Eric has been having a hard time mentally due to Han Ye Seul’s conflict with a PD. He didn’t know what to do in the middle and was filled with heavy concerns“.
The source also added, “This drama was Eric’s comeback work into the entertainment world, so it holds a very important meaning to him. It is not that I do not understand Han Ye Seul or the PD’s position, but I hope they can make a compromise as soon as possible and resume filming.

With the controversy between actress Han Ye Seul and her KBS drama ‘Spy Myung Wol‘ escalating by the minute, the problem has been revealed to be not her health condition, but conflicts with the drama’s PD, Hwang In Hyuk.
Han Ye Seul reportedly had problems with the PD since the beginning of the drama. With her condition worsening due to the tight filming schedules, tensions were on the rise, leading to more conflicts. In the end, Han Ye Seul requested for the PD to be changed out.
KBS responded by adding an additional PD, Kim Young Kyun, but did not change out PD Hwang In Hyuk. Frustrated with the decision, the conflict escalated until she failed to show up altogether.
A representative revealed, “Han Ye Seul asked that the PD be changed out, and then did not show up for the recording on August 14th.” Han Ye Seul had been making continuous requests for the PD to improve the conditions she was working under. The PD responded by asking for her to work just a little bit harder for the drama in return.
With legal action already looming in the distance, ‘Spy Myung Wol’ will be broadcasting a highlight reel on the 15th due to inadequate footage. Should she fail to show up today again, the episode on the 16th will be canceled altogether.

14 August:
Earlier today, the media reported that Han Ye Seul had refused to show up for the filming of her drama,KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol’. Representatives of her agency, Sidus HQ, have come out with an explanation for the four-hour standby she forced onto the cast and staff.

Through Newsen, they explained, “Han Ye Seul is physically not in great condition, which is why she hasn’t gone to the film set yet. As reports said, it is true that she was also late for filming on August 12th. Yesterday, however, filming was scheduled to end at 2 AM but it ended at 5 AM instead. There was another filming scheduled for 7 AM, so isn’t it only natural that she isn’t able to make it?”
According to the representative, the producers of the drama and Han Ye Seul had conflicts when it came to balancing their schedules.
The representative added, “Han Ye Seul will return to the film set as soon as she’s in better health.”

13 August:

KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol‘ has been put on an emergency hold due to actress Han Ye Seul’s refusal to show up for filming.
On August 14th, a representative revealed that filming was scheduled to begin at 7:30 AM KST. As of 11 AM, however, Han Ye Seul has yet to show up for filming.
According to the representative, today’s scenes required Han Ye Seul, Eric, Jo Hyung Ki, and Yoo Ji In. All staff and cast, excluding the actress, are currently waiting at the filming location.
Through Star News, the representative revealed, “Han Ye Seul directly told the director that she is not filming. She has not come to the film set since then.”
The reason behind her refusal stems from her differences in opinions with the producers regarding balancing her other schedules. This isn’t the first time she has appeared late. On August 12th, she showed up at 3:30 PM when filming was scheduled to begin at 6:30 AM.
On another occasion, she left the filming set early, without reason and consideration for the rest of the staff, leaving producers dumbfounded.
One producer of ‘Spy Myung Wol’ revealed, “If Han Ye Seul does not appear for today’s recording, it will impact the episodes to air this week. We have only filmed about 40% of the episodes that are scheduled to go out this week so we’re all just very shocked that the leading female role has yet to show up.”

9 August:

On August 9th, viewers saw the two guest stars act out a scene from the past, in which K-Will appears as a sunbae singer to the trainee ‘Kang Woo‘, who was played by X-5’s Gun.
K-Will, ‘President Joo‘ (played by Lee Deok Hwa), and ‘Kyung Jae In‘ (played by Park Hyun Suk) had all humiliated Kang Woo (Eric) as they talked amongst themselves. While the young Kang Woo was dancing, K-Will said, “There are lot of faces like that in Southeast Asia,” indicating that Eric’s face was too foreign-looking to make it in the business.
Viewers responded well to the cameos, as they said, “I was happy to see K-Will, even for just a short time” and “Gun’s performance wasn’t bad!

During the 7th episode of Spy Myung Wol, Kang Woo (played by Eric) discusses his schedule withRepresentative Kyung. In the dialogue, Representative Kyung states, “You know Shinhwa’s Junjin right? Well, after resisting for a while, he finally ended up going and singing a couple of songs.”
To this, Kang Woo answers back, “Am I and Junjin the same? We’re on different levels! I hear that Junjin’s petty company’s head representative is a wicked person… Oh well. It’s none of my business,”which made the viewers laugh.
Coincidentally, on the same day, news about Shinhwa’s comeback with their 10th album was alsoreleased. Thus, the head “wicked person” representative that Eric was mentioning in the drama was actually himself.
Additionally, on August 2nd, Eric tweeted, “Choong Jae (Junjin) was happy like a little kid that his name got mentioned! It looks like everyone except for Andy watched this episode. They keep texting me… about how Han Ye Seul looks cute as Sailor Moon” and also uploaded a screen capture of him group chatting with his fellow members. He also uploaded the picture of his script.
In the group chat, Lee Minwoo wrote, “I burst out into laughter when you said Shinhwa Company’s head representative is a wicked person.” In response, Eric wrote, “I couldn’t say anything that would disrespect Jin. 5 July:
On July 5th, Shinhwa’s Eric attended the press conference for his new drama, ”Spy Myung Wol“, at Seoul’s 63 Convention Center, where he shared his honest feelings about his new drama.

Speaking about his late comeback, the star said,
The drama ‘Poseidon‘ was filmed with permission from the National Maritime Police however, due to the Yeonpyeong Island incident and the turbulent weather, the drama was suspended. I did wish to make my comeback soon, but the gap that was created wasn’t too bad.
‘Posiedon’ had bigger pressure as a work than ‘Spy Myung Wol’. The mindset itself was different from ‘Spy Myung Wol’. At that time, since I have done comedic and cool roles, I wanted to be respected by playing an emotional role. But thankfully, due to this work, I was able to come this far. If there is one thing that’s a shame is that I want to do both ‘Poseidon’ and ‘Spy Myung Wol’, but they are being broadcast one after the other so I won’t be able to do one of them.
Eric then talked about his acting saying,
In the past, I wanted to receive respect and become an unrivaled being through my acting. Now, I think it’s success if I do what I can to the fullest and have good results. As music has turned into general music, I think acting is turning into general acting.
‘Spy Myung Wol’ revolves around the meeting of a North Korean spy Myung Wol (Han Ye Seul) and a South Korean Hallyu star Kang Woo (Eric). The show will broadcast its first episode on July 11th.

As reported earlier, the cast of KBS’s upcoming drama, “Spy Myung Wol“, headed over to Singapore for some fun location filming.

One of the scenes filmed in Singapore involved a performance by Hallyu star ‘Kang Woo’ (played byEric), who was on his Asian tour. Although it was just for filming, Eric stepped up his game by providing a real concert-like atmosphere for the 800 fans who visited to support him.
What’s remarkable is that each of the fans came not only from Singapore, but from Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia – all at their own expense.

Producers provided “We Love Kang Woo“ placards in advance, and fans enjoyed the fictional concert, which ran past 2 AM; some even stayed later to linger around Eric’s dorm.
To repay their love, Eric personally delivered a hamburger meal to each of his 800 fans.
He commented, “I was so happy that my fans had come all the way to our film set and that they stayed up at such a late time.”

Eric also produced a track for his character, titled “Hands Up“, which is described to be a powerful hip hop track that brings out his vocal color. He explained, “For my character, I composed and wrote a song and even came up with an impressive performance style fit for his Hallyu title.”
“Hands Up” will be revealed for the first time through Kang Woo’s world tour concert after the drama begins airing on July 11th.

He introduced his character with, “The personage of Kang Woo has many things in common with me. The part where he pursues both singing and acting is same, and I think that our appearances are the most similar. However, I don’t think I treat other people in real life as coldly as Kang Woo does.
