Girl group SISTAR recently guested on SBS Power FM’s ‘Choi Hwa Jung’s Power Time‘, where they charmed listeners with their straightforward and refreshing chats.
DJ Choi Hwa Jung asked, “Aren’t there a lot of male celebrities who pick the SISTAR members as their ideal women?“. Hyorin then answered modestly, “We would be honored if any male celebrities thought of SISTAR as their ideal type“.
When asked about their ideal man, Dasom jokingly answered, “I don’t really go for looks. I like plain looking guys; someone like Daniel Henney?”
Dasom’s playful response inspired the other members to give witty ones of their own. Hyorin answered, “I like guys who blend in the crowd like Kang Dongwon,” and Bora replied, “I like plain guys like Song Joong Ki“. Soyu also added, “I like the boy-next-door type like Gong Yoo“.
DJ Choi Hwa Jung commented, “You guys have such low standards, don’t you think?,” playing along with their hilarious antics.
The youngest member, Dasom, also introduced the members’ individual charms. “Soyu has the nicest butt, and Bora has a stunning bodyline. But Hyorin has the prettiest molar out of any Korean celebrity,” causing the listeners to howl with laughter.

10 August:
SISTAR recently made their comeback with “So Cool“, which had some issues with regards to its ‘too-suggestive’ choreography, forcing them to modify it at the last minute.
Now the girls are facing yet another censorship problem, this time for their other promotional track, “Girls Do It“. Their secondary title track was deemed inappropriate by MBC due to a seemingly-offensive line.
A representative of Starship Entertainment explained, “‘Girls Do It’ was deemed ineligible for broadcast because the lyrics “Stuck like a leech” were considered to be offensive. We’re disappointed that the decision was made against our favor, but the group will not be promoting the song.”
Netizens said, “I don’t understand how the lyrics were offensive” and “I was excited for their follow-up promotions after watching the comeback and I’m disappointed we won’t be able to see it anymore.”
Although they grabbed top spots on music charts with their new single “So Cool“, the ladies of SISTARaren’t quite satisfied yet.
Trying their best to gain new fews, SISTAR posed cutely for the camera with pleading expressions. Member Bora tweeted, “Can’t you please listen to ‘So Cool’ at least once? Please!”, before she attached this quirky photo set.
Followers on Twitter commented, “After seeing only charismatic images from you, [this new look] is refreshing,” “I’m going to download the song right now,” and “So cute.”
SISTAR will be performing “So Cool” for the first time this week on Mnet’s ‘M! Countdown‘.
On August 10th, Starship Entertainment revealed that they changed up SISTAR’s ‘tail dance’ from their “So Cool” choreography to avoid any further ’sexually suggestive’ controversies.
Representatives revealed, “In an effort to avoid the controversies popping up in the industry, we’ve decided to change one of the main aspects of SISTAR’s ‘So Cool’ choreography: their ‘tail dance’.”
The ‘tail dance’ was created by choreography team DQ and many were excited to see the boom that it would create in succession of the ‘butt dance’ from “How Dare You” and the sexy waves from “Ma Boy“.
However, with the slew of bans that songs have been met with lately, like HyunA’s choreography,TVXQ’s “Before U Go“, and Homme’s “Still Eating Well“, representatives felt that SISTAR’s dance would be put up on the chopping block if they did not change it.
Representatives continued, “In order to prevent any obstacles from standing in the way of the girls’ return, we decided to change their choreography. Fans will be able to see the changes on music programs.”
Netizens were upset by announcement, as they commented, “All I remember is the tail dance” and“Just because they shake their butt, it’s sexually suggestive?”.

Despite the many girl groups that keep debuting each month, industry representatives are already calling it the end of the girl group era. Variety programs that catered to girl groups like “Invincible Youth“, “Heroes“, and even “Bouquet“, have either been canceled due to low viewer ratings, or have undergone a concept change departing from girl groups entirely.
The competition still remains fierce though, and if a group doesn’t have that special something to set them apart from others, it only takes a second to be buried by the next.
It’s certainly a game of survival out there, and SISTAR has managed to play their cards right.
It hasn’t even been a year since their debut, but they’ve already got three hit tracks under their belt, as well as a ‘K-Chart’ trophy.
So what made them so appealing?
They chose the combination of their powerful vocal talent and their dance choreography.
Soyu commented, “Even when electronic sounds and auto-tune were all the trend, we didn’t use it. There’s no auto-tune in our MRs because when a song has a strong electronic sound to it, it eats up your vocals. We emphasized the sound of our natural voices instead.”
The girls have already had their vocal talent acknowledged by netizens through MR-removed videos, and since the girls are from a smaller label and didn’t have a strong fanbase to begin with, all they had to rely on to set them apart was their raw talent alone.
The girls have already had their vocal talent acknowledged by netizens through MR-removed videos, and since the girls are from a smaller label and didn’t have a strong fanbase to begin with, all they had to rely on to set them apart was their raw talent alone.
Although “Push Push” didn’t give them the push that they needed, “Shady Girl” put them on the right track until they finally hit their home run with “How Dare You.”
Out of the three, “How Dare You” is Bora’s favorite, as “it really brings out the characteristics of what makes up SISTAR.”
Hyorin’s voice is also worth noting, as it’s not only husky, but refreshing to hear. She’s been put in the same ranks of Taeyang and Taeyeon amongst idols in terms of talent, so naturally, she does have plans for solo activities.
Hyorin commented, “These days, I’ve been holding my breath while watching senior singers from ‘I Am A Singer.’ It’d be such an honor for me to be able to stand on such a stage some day.”
As previously reported, however, the girls really kicked off their popularity through variety shows like MBC’s “Idol Star Athletics Championships.“ They’ve garnered nicknames like ‘athletic idols’ and have shown a healthy image to the public. They’ve also since expanded their variety realm to include talk shows like “Radio Star” and “Strong Heart,” where they were both noted for their witty remarks.
Maknae Dasom has plans for pursuing an acting career once she feels she’s secured a position with SISTAR.
Thanks to their growing popularity, the girls are not only receiving more event requests, but OST participation and a growing uncle fanbase as well.
“Whenever we perform at army events, it feels like a riot!”
These days, the girls are busily preparing for their next comeback and are more confident in dreaming of a win on a music program. Dasom concluded, “Just thinking of consecutive wins makes me happy.”

Having pitched for the Samsung Lions last October, the SISTAR girls were invited by the organization once again to throw out the opening pitch on April 5th at the Daegu Baseball Stadium.
The Korea Baseball Organization kicked off its 30th season this past weekend, and the Samsung Lions entertained the visiting Lotte Giants for this weekday encounter.
Besides staging an pre-game autograph session, Bora did the pitching once more and instead of Hyorin, maknae Dasom was the batter this time round. Hyorin meanwhile sang the national anthem while Soyucheered her group members from the sidelines.
Unfortunately, the Samsung Lions was crushed 3:10 on home ground in the end.
