Last week, Hwanhee bid his fans farewell as he enlisted in the army for his two years of mandatory military service. To their great pleasure, the Choongnam Army Training Facility updated their homepage with a photo of the singer in the ‘Search the faces you miss‘ corner.
Despite the fact that he’s now dressed uniformly with the rest of his unit and his head is shorn, Hwanhee’s natural charisma still shone through — especially with the fierce look of determination on his face.
After four weeks of military training, Hwanhee will serve as a public service worker due to his physical inability to be put on active duty.

Just before he entered the military, Hwanhee held a fan meeting with 100 Korean and Japanese fans, as well as various members of the press. His Japanese fans flew in from across the sea and rented two tour buses to see him off. After he showed off his new hair, he gave a military salute to his fans before holding his final interview with the press.

Q. How are you feeling right now?
“I wasn’t nervous before, but once I got here, I started getting nervous. However, after seeing someone here who has the same hair cut as me, I relaxed a little.”
Q. What did you do yesterday?
“I was in the recording studio for MYNAME‘s project. I didn’t get a wink of sleep. The day before yesterday, I was with Kim Tae Woo and Lyn. I felt sad. Wheesung and KCM will be going into military service too, so I will miss them a lot.”
Q. What did Kim Tae Woo, who has already gone through military service, tell you?
“He told me to enjoy myself since it’s something that all men must go through.”
Q. How did your fellow Fly to the Sky member, Brian Joo, cheer you on?
“Brian sent me a text yesterday. He told me to do my best, and that he believes I will do well. I think Brian was saddened by the situation. However, due to MYNAME’s project, I couldn’t go meet him. Because this was so sudden, I also didn’t have time to meet up with my family or my other friends.”
Q. Who are you thinking about the most right now?
“I’m thinking a lot about my family.”
Q. You’re going into service at a late age.
“Kim Tae Woo told me once I enter military service, most of the people there will be younger than me. However, I’m going to try my best to do well. My father told me that even if the higher rank officers are younger than me, I should be understanding and do all that they ask of me. So if they tell me to sing, I will sing (laughs).”
Q. What do you want to ask for from your fellow female celebrities?
“While I’m doing my service, it would be nice if female celebrities who know me would write to me often (laughs).”
Q. Any last words for the fans?
“I debuted as an idol and am now entering the military as an adult-idol. Thank you for being fans for so long. I will come back as more of a man than before and will pay you back with even better songs and acting. Please wait for me until then. Thank you.”

It’s often easy to overlook the beauty of nature when we’re constantly surrounded by technological advancements, moreso for celebrities who are always in the glitz and glam of the spotlight. SoloistHwanhee recently revealed that he became one with nature while filming for his movie ‘Star‘ in Japan. He revealed, “I stayed at an island for the majority of the three weeks I was in Japan. The scenery was just so beautiful that I felt connected to nature.”
Although the typhoon made it difficult to focus on the second half of the required filming in Japan, Hwanhee revealed that he spent some quality time to himself while waiting. “The typhoon missed our island by just a bit so there weren’t any big problems. Instead, there was nothing else to do during the downtime so I simply observed the scenery. I’d go out in shorts and slippers and sleep with lizards and eat outside as well.”
It wasn’t until he got back to Tokyo that he realized how connected he had been to nature all month long. “I spent the last two days in Tokyo and found myself in awe after simply seeing cars pass by on the streets. It seems I really was one with nature. Fortunately, I completed the required filming safely.”
When asked about his role of ‘Romi’ in the movie, he explained, “Romi is a singer so there weren’t any difficulties, but I am disappointed in that I wasn’t able to promote my solo album because of the movie.”
‘Star’ is scheduled to hit theaters early next year.
27 September:
Singer Hwanhee has revealed that he recently completed filming his movie in Japan and is now preparing to begin his follow-up promotions.
A representative of his agency stated, “Hwanhee will be returning to Korea on September 29th. Starting with ‘Music Bank’ on the 30th, he’ll begin promoting ‘So You Don’t Know‘ from his first album.”
Hwanhee was promoting his title track, “I Feel Like I’m Going to Die“, before he left for Japan on September 14th to film for his movie ‘Star‘. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions in Japan, his film schedule was delayed for several days, and eventually resumed on the 22nd.
His follow-up track, “So You Don’t Know”, was produced by Lee Sang In and is a ballad track that features a soft piano melody. The song is arranged in a unique way so that it feels like he’s singing for that one special listener.
After concluding his promotions, he’ll be going back to film for his movie. “We think it’ll take about one or two more weeks for Hwanhee to focus on getting his film schedule completed,” said his representatives.
31 July:
Singer Hwanhee is back with a dramatic new ballad called “I Feel Like I’m Going To Die“. He’s finally released the full MV for the song, which features acting from his cousin, Lee Jang Woo.
The music video carries a lot of theatrics to better express the emotional trauma in the song. Lee Jang Woo seems to be haunted by the ghost of his memories and perhaps that drives him a little mad, leaving him to point a gun erratically at his ex-lover (…or at least his image of her).

29 July:
Former Fly to the Sky member Hwanhee revealed that there was a painful love story behind his new song, “Love Pain“.
The singer is releasing his first full solo-album since debuting 12 years ago, and he confessed during his interview with StarIn News that his title track contained lyrics that hit very close to home.
Hwanhee explained that he had just gone through a difficult break-up, and so when he came across the lyrics “I didn’t think the pain would last, I need to get this off my chest / I feel as though I can’t go on / Won’t you come back to me”, he was struck by how similar his personal situation was to the song’s story.
He stated, “I can’t reveal her identity, but six months ago I ended things with the woman I dated for two years… my new title track tells of my emotional breakup experience.”
“People in relationships fight and get back together all the time. We did that too, repeatedly. I acted like the break-up didn’t bother me, but I didn’t realize it would be the last. It was so hard. I felt like I couldn’t live without her,” he said thinking back.
Hwanhee didn’t write the actual song itself – it was written by composer Jo Jun Young, but because Hwanhee had shared his heartache with him, Hwanhee’s emotions naturally carried into the song.
“I don’t want to be with her again, despite what the lyrics say. She isn’t mine anymore,” he explained.“After being lost for so long, I reached out to her only to find that she had someone else. The hardest thing was acknowledging her new relationship. I loved her enough to spend the rest of my life with her. I thought that she of all people would still wait for me, even if I left her. I guess I was selfish.”
“It should’ve ended with the break-up but the break-up then turned into a song,” he said. “I worried that she may be hurt after hearing it, but as a musician, naturally I express my emotions through my music. I hope that it won’t affect her emotionally,” he concluded.
