Big Bang‘s T.O.P made a surprise rap-feature for label mate Gummy‘s performance on ‘I Am a Singer‘.
The theme for the December 11th episode of this season’s ‘I Am a Singer’ was ‘Sanullim Special‘, for which Kim Chang Wan, the leader of Korean rock trio Sanullim, was in attendance to witness all seven performances.
Gummy may be the youngest of this season’s ‘I Am a Singer’ lineup of veterans which includes Kim Kyung Ho, Bobby Kim, and Jaurim, but she still managed to put on an energetic and powerful performance of the Korean classic, “Rascal” to claim her #1 win.
For her performance, Gummy rocked a punk-rock attire consisting of torn red-and-black plaid skinny jeans, with a black graphic sleeveless tee. She wore her hair in long, waves and donned dark makeup with studded accessories to complete her look. The energy of her performance only heightened with the surprise guest-feature of Big Bang’s T.O.P. The charismatic rapper dressed in all-red stepped out in the middle of Gummy’s performance, and the audience rose from their seats to cheer for the two charismatic performers.
Bobby Kim who watched their performance remarked, “I feel like I’m here as a guest for Gummy’s concert.”
Following Gummy were Jaurim, Yoon Min Soo, and Kim Kyung Ho who came in at second, third, and fourth place, respectively.

19 September:
On the latest episode of MBC‘s survival reality program ‘I Am A Singer‘, the competition brought out some very surprising results on both ends of the spectrum.
Coming in at first place was Bobby Kim, who had floundered in the previous weeks because he had been lacking a sense of direction in his covers. By singing a cover of ‘Alley Street‘ with his traditional flair and adding a rap interlude, he managed to win over the audience who praised his performance, saying, “Bobby Kim has found his courage,” and, “He’s beginning to show off his original strengths.”
Another surprising upset came at the other end of the scale, with seventh (and last) place being awarded to the normally high-placing Jang Hye Jin. Her performance drew criticism for being too similar to her two previous efforts.
Meanwhile, this episode introduced the first performance of this week’s new artist, Kim Kyung Ho.
14 August:
The three remaining original members of MBC’s ‘I Am A Singer‘ wrapped up their final performances on August 14th. Park Jung Hyun and Kim Bum Soo “graduated” from the show after placing first and second in last night’s competition, while YB Yoon Do Hyun was unfortunately eliminated.
Park Jung Hyun sang an impressive rendition of Deul Guk Hwa’s “Only That Is My World“. Continuing her streak as the contestant with the best track record, she was able to graduate happily.
Before her performance she said, “The lyrics to this song are perfect for me to convey what I went through while taking part in ‘I Am A Singer.’ I think that if I focus too hard tonight, I won’t be able to sing at all. Just as I always did with these performances, I’m going to aim for first place.” After the results were revealed Park Jung Hyun cried, “This is going to be an honor I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
As per his specialty, YB rocked Lee Dong Won’s “Oh, My Love” in his own style. Although he placed fourth in last night’s competition, his 7th place ranking last week ultimately led to his elimination.
The studio reportedly became quite somber after YB’s elimination was announced. However, the other contestants remedied that by praising and applauding the singer for his hard work over the course of the show. “I’m going to accept this with humility,” he said afterwards. Speaking to the viewers, he expressed, “I hope I will continue to see you at concert halls for other shows in the future.”
YB’s manager for the show, Kim Jae Dong, showed his affection for the singer and said, “Personally, I can’t accept this elimination. He will always be first in my heart.”
The third and final remaining original cast member, Kim Bum Soo, sang Byun Jin Sub’s “To Be Alone” placing second. He tweeted after the broadcast, “I had fun one last time with no regrets… I’d like to bow my head to thank everyone that laughed and cried with me. I feel that it was a good decision for me to walk the path of a singer. I was so happy with you all. Thank you.”
Meanwhile, Jo Kwan Woo followed in third place, Kim Jo Han in fifth, Jang Hye Jin in sixth, andJaurim in seventh place. Bobby Kim, In Sooni and Vibe’s Yoon Min Soo will be joining from the next episode.

24 July:
MBC’s I Am A Singer has revealed the singer that was eliminated through this week’s episode. The cast of seven performed the following songs and were ranked in the order below:
1. Park Jung Hyun – ‘If I Leave’ (Sumi Jo)
2. Jang Hye Jin – ‘It’s Alcohol’ (VIBE)
3. Kim Bum Soo - ‘Wet Firewood’ (Koo Chang Mo)
4. Jo Kwan Woo – ‘When It Rains on Tuesday’ (Park Mi Kyung)
5. YB - ‘Turn The Radio On Loud’ (Sinawui)
6. Kim Jo Han – ‘Honey’ (JYP/Park Jin Young)
7. Ock Ju Hyun - ‘The Man The Ship, The Woman The Port’ (Shim Soo Bong)
As in past episodes, all seven songs were brilliantly performed with surprising re-arrangements, making it seem like the artists were singing their own songs. However, the disqualification could not be avoided.
In the end, it was Ock Ju Hyun who ended up dropping the microphone, since her combined results from the 1st and 2nd round were the lowest.
Ock Ju Hyun revealed her feelings after being disqualified, “I really did not want this to happen, so it’s disappointing. It is sad to think that I will not be able to perform with my senior’s on the same stage. I learnt many things from this show and it made a small fire of hope that gave me the strength to come back as a singer again. I will not forget the memories that were created from being here.”
Having being criticized heavily by her anti-fans before she joined and even during the show, Ock Ju Hyun suffered a lot. However, Ock Ju Hyun gained respect through this show as it made the public realize her talent that they had either previously been unaware, or for some, did not want to believe.
Jaurim will be the next contestant to join the show.
