On the June 5th episode of SBS‘ ‘Strong Heart‘, INFINITE‘s Sunggyu revealed that he’s had a lot of free time because of his recent hip injury.
Sunggyu shared, “To be honest, when my fellow members had very hectic schedules, I had a lot of free time. I went to the hospital to check out why my hips were hurting, and the doctors told me that it was because I was lying down too much.”
“When members Woohyun and Sungjong appeared on ‘Strong Heart’, I was at home watching the program. I was lying down improperly then too,” causing laughter on set with his confession.
Sunggyu also comforted SECRET‘s Sunhwa, who is concerned about her individual activities, by saying, “When there is a member who is getting the spotlight, there is also a member who is lying down at home,” giving his two cents on the topic.
Sunggyu also discussed the truth behind his “old man” image on TV progams.

28 May:
On the latest recording of Mnet‘s ‘Vol. TEN‘, MC Supreme Team‘s Simon D revealed that he had once rejected a featuring in IU’s song and named it as the worst mistake of his 20′s.
Right after IU had released her hit track, “Nagging“, she had asked Simon D for a feature in another song. Unfortunately, Simon D had been too busy to accept the request. “I was so busy then that I had no choice, but to reject it. I’m so apologetic now that I can’t even talk to her first.”
Not only were his fellow MCs surprised, but they jokingly reprimanded him for the decision.
Im Jin Mo, who’s a self-declared fan of IU, hilariously replied, “Rejecting a request from IU is worse than denying an order from your parents.” Jung-In added, “Simon D, you’re quite amazing to have rejected IU.”
Simon D joked back, “Yes, I consider it the biggest mistake of my 20′s.”

Back in November we reported that Supreme Team‘s E-Sens halted activities after admitting to smoking marijuana.
On December 17, Simon D revealed the photo above and expressed his thoughts on E-Sens.
“We did the Amoebahood Concert Poster photoshoot. E-Sens wasn’t there so I felt sad, but we had a fun time shooting”.
Netizens commented, “ahh..E-Sens Oppa.. I miss him too”, “Sad that E-Sens Oppa wasnt there!! But Amoeba Culture is still great”, “Simon D you look like a real celebrity in the picture haha, so good looking!!!”
Meanwhile, the Amoebahood Concert is scheduled to take place on January 27 and January 28, 2012.
Dynamic Duo, Simon D, Primary, Rhythm Power and Amoeba Culture friends, are scheduled to perform.
17 October:
Newly debuted as a solo rapper Simon D of Supreme Team has revealed a picture of him posing with some golden bling.
On October 16th, the rapper tweeted, “My pendant came. ‘Golden Mouth’ was made in reference to my face, making it more meaningful. So Cool!” along with the pictures above. The gold pendant was decorated with diamond cubic along the top edge, hanging on a gold chain.
Netizens commented, “It looks expensive“, “Wow, wouldn’t it be heavy?“, “I want this pendant as well“.
Supreme Team‘s Simon D recently sat down for an interview with Yeonhap News to talk about the inspirations behind not only his solo album, “SNL League Begins“, but also what defines him as a rapper.
He made quite a few fans confused with his solo album cover alone. In the cover, he appears as a comic book antagonist and E-Sens is depicted as the hero. Many questioned why would the star of the show want to be the antagonist.
It actually has to do with his roots. “As it is my first solo album, I wanted to put in it the determination I debuted with. Ever since my younger days, I wanted to become the rascal of the hip-hop scene. In the movies ‘Die Hard 3‘ and ‘Demolition Man‘, both of the antagonists are named Simon. I felt really charmed by that, so I was determined to become a rapper that would work to get rid of all of the fake rappers that only look nice on the outside,” he explained.
On his title track, “Cheerz“, he told Yeonhap, “I was about to give up on the song knowing that it would be banned to minors, but I decided to just go ahead and go through with it. Dramas and movies depict a lot of drinking scenes with bars and whatnot, so I’m not sure why music is given that restriction. When the MOGEF was under fire for their unclear standards, I expressed some of my thoughts regarding that on my Twitter as well.”
To add some depth to the overall album, he also enlisted the help of long-time friend, Loptimist as well as foreign underground musicians like the Boston Horns, the Spain Band, and Nicotine Swing.
“I wanted to win people over with the quality of my music. I contacted bands through Myspace and YouTube and had Loptimist send over music sheets to show them. The bands would chat with us through video messages and show us their live performance. If we liked it, they’d send us the recording,” he said, describing a very unique production method.
When asked about E-Sens‘ lung condition and Supreme Team’s inevitable hiatus, he stated, “One day, when we were rapping on stage, E-Sens told me that he was nervous because he was running out of breath. It must’ve been hard for him to perform live due to the poor condition his throat and lungs were in. He was diagnosed by the hospital, but there isn’t a clear name to his condition. We eventually had to let Supreme Team rest and release my solo album first.”
Simon D reflected back to when he first met E-Sens at a b-boy musical in Busan. He had just come up from performing at clubs in Hongdae and Seoul and decided to form a team together. His parents weren’t happy with the decision, especially since they had thought he was in Seoul to attend TOEIC academies.
“My solo album feels like a reward for all that I’ve suffered to get here. It’s especially meaningful in that Loptimist and I had promised each other when things were hard to work on an album together in the future. Now my mom watches my stage and acknowledges my career. She even goes and shows off to the ajummas in her apartment.”
On his growing image as a variety star, he commented, “Hip-hop artists usually want to protect their pride as much as possible when they go on variety shows because they don’t want to mess their image up. But after observing senior singers maintain that balance between music and variety, it made me realize that you just had to prove yourself through your music and nothing else. That helped me feel a lot better. You can’t ignore the influence that variety shows have on your image anymore either, because the influence is directly evident on digital music charts.”
Finally, on his girlfriend of four years, Lady Jane, he stated, “I never hid the fact that I had a girlfriend, but once it was actually revealed, I did feel some pressure. If I could go back in time, however, I wouldn’t change my decision.”
11 October:
Supreme Team‘s Simon D recently came out with his new album, ‘Simon Dominic Presents SNL LEAGUE BEGINS‘. But rather than being known as the talented rapper he is, Simon D is famous for his rising popularity for appearing on various variety shows, showcasing his delicate flavor of his Busan dialect.
However, he decided to return to his original path as a musician ‘Simon D’ veering away from the grounds of variety shows. The passionate rapper dropped all the shows that he was involved in and went in to the studio so that he can focus on his upcoming album.
Simon D admitted,
“I stopped all the programs so that I can work on my album. I realized that when I was involved in variety shows, I didn’t have enough time to work on my music. I was planning on debuting solo and was contemplating on when I should release it, but even before that, I knew that I had to stop all variety shows. I was always writing lyrics, but I saw no progress. So I just decided to stop all variety shows and went in to the studio to start recording”.
There was no doubt that it would have been hard for him to let go of variety shows all at once especially when the popularity level skyrocketed like Simon D’s. He had personally felt the fame and for him to give up all that and more must have been tough. Celebrities like him involved in variety shows. However, Simon D commented, “This is enough.”
He then added,
“I wasn’t a top star but I think I experienced high level of fame that I can achieve through variety shows in my life. Now that I have personally felt the fame, I thought that it was enough. I lost the my selfish need to be on the top. And I thought that even if I was to become a top star, I would have no time to work on my music. I thought to myself, ‘I’m satisfied. This is enough, I am not greedy’ and I just went back to my place, to my original self.”
Simon Dominic successfully transformed back to his ‘old self’ and in order to put his own taste of music in to his album, he permitted no outside distractions. Releasing the first solo album as an overground artist, this album was much more meaningful to him than to anyone else.
“It’s been 10 years since I began rapping and I just released my first solo album. I wanted to focus a lot on it. Depending on the amount of focus I put in, the album’s quality changes. During Supreme Team years, there were a lot of things that were cup off. Because of the short time frame, so we had make up some of the words and ornate it to make it pretty. But for this, I wrote what was on my heart. I focused solely on my music during that time. I wanted to show my 100% through my album.”
Time off to focus on his music was precious to Simon D because he has been living busily, receiving many love-calls from many variety programs. Therefore, any kind of criticism, comments, feedback, and result was important and prideful for Simon D.
He commented, “Negative reviews are unavoidable because everyone has their own personal taste. This album doesn’t depend on the positive, or negative revenue. I was happy throughout the process of making this album and I am proud of the result. It was a very happy moment.”
Even though he left daringly, Simon D isn’t against the idea of appearing on variety shows. He came in aware of the power that variety shows had and he also had fun during his rein in the variety world. He also admitted that he watched many of the variety shows that rappers appear in and opened the idea of reappearing on variety shows in the future.
“I don’t have a strong desire to do it. I don’t deny variety shows. At first before ‘Hot Brothers’, I was a bit against it. I thought that my charismatic image on stage would be erased and all my fans would fall out. But in actuality, I gained a lot more fans and they think very positively of it. I watch a lot of the variety shows that many rappers star in. I would do it if it was right for me. But as of now, I have no intentions of doing them.”
In the end, Simon D finally concluded, “Variety shows are very helpful. I know that if I was to be actively appearing on variety shows, and the album was to release, it might have garnered more interest. But I know if I was to keep starring in variety shows, then this album would have never released.”

5 October:
Supreme Team‘s Simon D is feeling the pressure. The star is preparing to release his first solo album, and he’s concerned about its success.
Simon D was widely popular in the underground as ‘Simon Dominic‘ prior to his mainstream debut with Supreme Team, and so he technically isn’t new to the ‘solo’ game. He’s anxious in not just doing well for himself, however, but for his team as well.
One reason for Simon D’s individual project is that fellow member E-Sens has had lung-related health issues since the beginning of this year. As such, the rapper has taken a temporary hiatus from the music industry in order to recover.
Rather than cancelling all events and promotions, Simon D took on the burden of performing by himself.
A representative of their entertainment company, Amoeba Culture, explained that with the recent successes of Korean hip-hop veterans Leessang and Verbal Jint, Simon D feels extra pressured to continue the high streak.
“Although he hasn’t said it explicitly himself, Simon D is so physically and mentally overwhelmed by the burden of solo promotions that he even considered delaying the album release. However, he’s been working diligently for the past eight months and will prove his musical confidence when it finally goes public. He is very disappointed and sorry that he will not be able to perform on stage with feellow member E-Sens, but promises to work even harder to make up for his absence.”
Simon D’s collaborative work with producer Loptimist will be released on October 7th.
30 September:

Make sure to keep an eye out for Simon D’s upcoming first solo album!
27 September:Supreme Team‘s Simon D originally revealed that he would be dropping his solo album on September 28th, but unfortunately, it looks like that date has been postponed.
Having topped hip hop charts with pre-releases like “Hero” and “Stay Cool“, the news comes as a disappointment to both music fans and officials alike.
Representatives of Ameoba Culture explained, “Now that the market is entering the second half of the year, a lot of singers are making their comebacks. The onslaught of girl group comebacks in October has put the industry on high alert. Honestly speaking, we were trying to schedule Simon D’s release date in accordance with the other comebacks, but we soon realized that that wasn’t who we truly are. We are hip hop. It’s wrong to be so conscious of what others think and to present ourselves in a certain way for the public.”
They continued, “And it’s not like the girl groups are conscious of our comeback anyway. We are fans of the girl groups and hope to promote right alongside them, which is why we’re delaying the release by a week.”
Simon D will be releasing his album on October 7th.
