Hongkong Asian Pop Music Festival

MANILA, Philippines — Popular singers in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia gathered and performed at the Hong Kong Asian Pop Music Festival held recently at theHong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
The festival was organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the International Federation of Phonographic Industry (Hong Kong) to showcase artists from the Asian region and promote Hong Kong as a center for pop music.
During the event, a contest was held and participated in by artists from different Asian countries.
Korean boy band DGNA (aka The Boss) won the Best Stage Performance Award while China’s Wu Qiong won the Super Nova Award and the Best Vocal Performance Award, edging out Hong Kong’s William Chan,Taiwan’s SIGMA, Singapore’s Kewei Tay, and Malaysia’s Bunkface.
The jury was composed of Zhang Yadong from China, Peter Kam from Hong Kong, Jonathan Lee from Taiwan, Hiroyuki Yamanaka from Japan, Yoon Myung Seon from South Korea, Billy Koh from Singapore and Alex San from Malaysia.
Japanese singers AAA and Kumagai Ikumi were unable to attend the festival due to the recent earthquake and tsunami their country.
Fans were delighted to see the performance of K-pop boy band Super Junior-M, the subunit of Super Junior for the Chinese music market composed of Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Zhou Mi and Henry.
Super Junior-M sang “Destiny” and “Perfection”, cuts from their second Mandarin mini-album “Perfection”.
Other guest performers at the festival were Lollipop F from Taiwan, JJ Lin from Singapore, Bibi Zhou from China, Joey Yung from Hong Kong and Fish Leong from Malaysia.

Super Junior-M also attended the concert. Although they did not win any awards, they were the most popular group. A great portion of the venue were filled by SJ-M fans. When they came out, the audience would not stop screaming. In a backstage interview after the festival, Kyuhyun stated that he was very nervous when he saw so many fans screaming and cheering for them. Siwon added that he wanted to thank everyone because it felt like they sang at their own concert.
