Super Junior‘s Kim Heechul doesn’t need to be in the spotlight to grab headlines anymore — although he’s currently serving his mandatory military term, the singer was chosen by MTV Taiwan as the “idol with the sexiest lips”.
Having amassed over 929 votes in a poll, MTV Taiwan gave Heechul the following compliment: “It’s not a surprise that Heechul took first place. He really has sexy lips, especially when he dresses up as a woman.” Heechul is known for his costumed parodies of Lady Gaga at Super Junior concerts, and the lady herself even complimented Heechul for “looking amazing”.

Kim Hee-Chul’s Impression of Training Completion at Korea Army Training Center
What your impression about your completion of four weeks of training?
First of all, I’m glad. I feel really good. Honestly, I was worried a lot about having training at KATC because of my injured knee. I’m sure I caught many other recruits’ attention, so that I can’t be look sick or having an issue while having training. My thoughts have been changed in a positive way after I got to have conversations with recruits. I will be fully responsible for my 2 years of service as a public service worker, and I won’t let two years just fly by. I will make those two years of service counted for my life. Lastly, I want to be shown up to my fans as a grown person.
What have been changed at Korea Army Training Center?
Before I joined the army training, I did not eat any of chocolates, candies, snacks and fast foods, because I had to manage my appearance, and I didn’t like them much. So, when I got a box of choco-pie on the first week, I gave it to other recruits. I said, “you eat it,’ because I’m the oldest, “You eat, I don’t like sweet stuff. I’m fine.” However, a box of choco-pie meant different to me after few days. I got a box of choco-pie on the third week, and leave it in my cabinet. Then, other recruits asked, “do you have choco-pies?” Then, I really thought whether I should give it to them or not. It’s not that I love sweet stuff, but just that because I’m here at KATC.
How were foods at KATC?
At KATC, foods aren’t horrible like what people normally expect outside of training center. Rather, KATC offers variety of healthy meals, so that recruits don’t get unbalanced diet. I think I gained about 3kg. Outside of KATC, I had not eat three times a day, but here, I eat regularly and sleep a lot at night.
Many fans sent me letters. I read them, and most of them said, “oppa, you seem like you are enjoying training,” “oppa, I like seeing you looking healthier,” and “oppa, was shooting training fun?” Many of letters talk about me being looking healthier or about my skin looking better. Well, I don’t understand what kind of photos they are seeing…(subtitle : I really had a hard time…)
Many fans sent me letters. I read them, and most of them said, “oppa, you seem like you are enjoying training,” “oppa, I like seeing you looking healthier,” and “oppa, was shooting training fun?” Many of letters talk about me being looking healthier or about my skin looking better. Who is the most memorable fellow recruit?
I’m number 101 recruit. Number 102 recruit, Jeong Woo-Suk, is the most memorable fellow recruit. I have a trouble with my knee, but he has an issue with his back, so he can’t even sit to take a rest. Because he and I are partners, we gave a lot of help to each other.
How difficult was it for you to fit in Korea Army Training Center?
Fortunately, although I’m very sensitive, I’m very flexible to new environment. My platoon and company leaders worried about me taking a shower with a group of other recruits, because although I’m the same recruit as others, I’m also a public figure. At first, it was awkward to see other recruits starring at me with weird looks, but I thought ‘being introverted isn’t really me. It damages my title, the world star. Let’s be myself, Kim Hee-Chul. Let’s be cool!” Then, I took my clothes off, took a shower, and said, “oh, good!” I wasn’t embarrassed to show myself being naked. I was being a ‘real man’! When you think of yourself after joined the army, how changed are you, compare to before you came here?
In fact, whether a person joins the army to be a public service worker or a soldier, he is drafted, not by his own choice. It’s something all Korean men must do. But, I’m sure most of Korean men including myself would think that, “what can I do there? Joining the army is such a wasting time.” So, I was worried. I worried about me returning back to where I originally belong. I thought, ‘ah, can I do that again?’ However, my mind changed since I came here. I think people really should experience any situations to make their minds. Thinking that joining the army is wasting time was totally unnecessary and immature. I did not waste time, and I rather had an opportunity to assemble my broken thoughts and mind to think of the past and future. Also, I wasn’t so thankful to many people who supported and loved me. But, now, I realized that I was too proud of myself to ignore their support and love. From KATC, I learned to give words of comfort to others, learned to be cheered, learned to be thankful to those who love me so much and learned that I’m not the best, but not the worst, either. I’m still learning a lot of things. Although I thought that joining the army would stop me from what I do and where I belong, but now I positively think that joining the army gave me an opportunity to jump higher to reach my goal.
Last words for fans…
Super Junior Kim Hee-Chul finally completed basic trainings at KATC. Since last September 1, many photos and video clips of him training at KATC are released to the public, and they caught fans’ attention. In the final interview, Kim Hee-Chul looked back memorable days and said, “I was worried alot about training at KATC because of my injured knee, but I enjoyed training with other recruits.” Also, “many fans worried about me being skinnier, but I actually gained 3 kg because of having a regular schedule and life pattern!”Kim He-Chul was being asked about his future plan. SJ Kim Heechul completed his 4 weeks worth of basic military training and finished his first day as public service personnel.In the morning of September 30th, Kim Heechul appeared at Seoul Seongdong District for his first assignment in black jacket and jeans with hat and quickly moved to avoid the press.Last September 29, he was released from Chungnam Nonsan Army Training Camp and would spent the next 23 months to serve in Seongdong-gu District as public service personnel.

According to reports, his work station was swarmed by fans and reporters alike, all curious to see how he’d start his first day at a military job. When the star finally made an appearance in casual clothes, he tried to avoid the crowd. Heechul looked extremely exhausted while making an attempt to escape, and seemed quite bothered by the media frenzy. He even tried to cover his face with an envelope to avoid the cameras.
In related news, Heechul posted a photo of himself with fellow member Choi Siwon, showing off his new haircut through Twitter. The ‘Big Space Star’ may be trying to focus on his military life, but he looks like he won’t be abandoning his Twitter any time soon.

Super Junior‘s Heechul will conclude his basic military training on September 29th, and will continue with full-fledged military duties shortly after.
Heechul will resume military activities on September 30th in Seongdong, Seoul after completing four weeks of basic training, serving as a Public Service Personnel for another 23 months before returning with Super Junior.

Super Junior, Kim Hee-Chul talks about Korea Army Training Center
Q1) What kind of training are you doing, now?
A) Well, now, we’re doing guerilla tactics training. When we’re moving from one place to another or when we have to overcome ground obstacles, guerilla tactics is necessary in a way that we need to be safe and quick. We cross over a log, or we jump from a high place, and these are all about guerilla tactics.

Q2) You have only one week of training left. How do you feel?
A) Honestly, when I walked into Korea Army Training Center (aka. KATC), I said “I will complete 4 weeks of training, and I will work as a public service worker.” However, I was a bit worried about the whole training.
KATC was a definitely strange place for me, and my leg was injured. So, I thought, ‘well, can I complete all trainings safely?’ and ‘can I get along well with other recruits in my platoon?’
And, I was little worried that whether I will be able to communicate well with squad and platoon leaders or not. Everything was so awkward. It was even awkward to see myself on mirror, and it was hard to finish my sentences with ‘Da,’ ‘Na,’ Gga.’ Fortunately, I was quickly used to the strange rule. Well, this is just one of characteristics of army we can easily expect.
Before everyone actually had to say ‘good-bye’ to his parents and friends, squad and platoon leaders seemed pretty nice and kind to us. They even talked to us with a nice manner.
I expected squad and platoon leaders to be aggressive and tough as soon as we become recruits. However, they aren’t too bad after all. I want to tell everyone, who is planning to join the army, that “don’t worry too much, days in this camp aren’t too bad, and I get along with other recruits really well.”
Our squad and platoon leaders are frequently asking us, “are you sick?” or “do you have any issues that limit you from training?” They are caring us a lot, so I didn’t have much troubles from training.
Q3) What were you mostly worried about, before you joined the training camp?
A) Yes, well, in fact, I had a surgery nailing seven iron cores on my knee, so I was worried a lot about having tough trainings.
Honestly, I, as a singer (or public figure), felt that I don’t want to be looked at a type of person who makes a fuss about military service. That’s why I ran more, and I excessively forced myself to train harder. Even though I was told to walk on crutches, I questioned myself whether I should use them or not.
People around me told me that ‘you’re the same recruit as others, so if you have physical issues, you can walk on crutches.’ It was just me that I felt little guilt to be sick as a public figure. But, whoever will join the army shouldn’t be worry about being sick or having an issue. You just need to say, “I have a trouble.”
There is nothing to worry about. Join the army without worries.
Q4) Why did you put photos of So-Hee from Wonder Girls on your cabinet?
A) Oh! Since I joined the army, many fans sent out many photos of girl groups. I received so many photos of them. In fact, girl groups are the best celebrities in the training camp.
Girl groups give all recruits psychological energies, for sure. I remember, before I became one of training recruits, I think I said I am one of So-Hee’s fans. So, many Super Junior fans sent me a lot of photos of So-Hee from Wonder Girls. I have this much photos of her. Squad and platoon leaders and I talked about this, so I was allowed to put her photos on my cabinet. Isn’t she cute? Also, So-Hee’s photos are special because my fans sent them to me, not that I have crush on her.
Q5) What was the most impressive training you remember?
A) This is also special because I have an opportunity to do this, only in this training camp.
I hope that I only have to use a firearm in the training camp. It is good for all of us if we don’t have to use firearms at all in the future. Of course, soldiers in active service have to use them though. While I have used M16 rifle at shooting training, I felt that shooting scenes in the movies are little fabricated. Bang! M16 kicks a lot.
I had a quite interesting story from pre-shooting training. In order to count my scores on a target, a score paper is fixed with rubber bands. I should have hit the target, but I accidently cut off the rubber bands, which were very hard to hit.
As soon as I cut off the rubber bands with a bullet, our company leader said, “that’s something only Super Junior can do, no one actually did that before!”
In the actual shooting training, I had a pretty good score. There are 200m and 250, aren’t there? I passed the shooting test on the first round. Isn’t it cool?
How much score I got, it’s for you to imagine!

Q7) What give you vital energies while you are training, here?
A) Well, of course, fans’ letters are the best. Although I received a lot of fan letters before I came here, receiving fan letters as a recruit feels so much different. Here, I’m hunger for letters, so I ask, “are there any letters for me?” I’m so thankful to all my fans for letters, but I’m so sorry that I’m not in the position to write you back.
Especially, parents’ letters…while I was reading them, I said to myself, ‘wow, time really flew by.’ Also, Sunny and Seo-Hyeon from Girls’ Generation wrote me letters. I’m sure they are busy with working…So, I want to tell them that thanks so much! Tae-Yeon from Girls’ Generation sent me signatured photos of her with comments. Thanks a lot! Although I’m spending 4 weeks of training here, I feel so loved by many people. Sully from F(x) wrote me a letter, too! I should take care of them after I get done with the service. Outside of the army, I was a little chic and naughty entertainer to fans and friends including Girls’ Generation and F(x). I really should be generous to them! Ha Ha.
Q7) Last words for your fans…?
A) Hello! I’m the world super star, Kim Hee-Chul. I’m done with today’s training, and I will be returning to my camp.

Before Super Junior‘s Kim Heechul enlisted with the army, he recorded a song and music video with veteran singer Kim Jang Hoon. Kim Jang Hoon recently announced that he’ll be releasing this new work on September 26th, and he’s followed up by unveiling a MV teaser!
The guys are seen hanging out and having fun at the recording studio, with Heechul up to his usual goofy antics and Jang Hoon joining in affectionately.

New photos from Kim Heechul's basic military training were uploaded online once again. The same blog site who revealed hisfirst photos in the military, updated the last parts of Kim Heechul's basic training today.
Kim Heechul is currently on his basic military training in Chongnam, Noksan since the 1st of September and will proceed to serve as a public service personnel for 23 months right after.
On the said blog update, Kim Heechul joins the rest of the military recruits as they get closer to the end of training. They were also seen anxiously waiting for their turn to practice and train shooting.
Fans who have seen the photos expressed their happiness on reading updates about Kim Heechul once again.

The video kicks off with footage of the men playing various games together before they all settle down to perform the ‘charye‘ in front of a ceremonial table.
‘Charye‘ is an important rite performed during the Chuseok holiday, as it honors one’s ancestors with a temporary shrine, containing certain foods and drinks. These items are placed in specific spots on a table, and many steps are included to properly show one’s respects.
Heechul can be seen gravely handling one of the steps before the group bows down collectively, as per custom.
Heechul greeted the public by stating, “Hello, this is the ‘big space star’, Kim Heechul. I hope that no one is sick over the Chuseok holiday. I’m at the Nonsan training camp receiving four weeks of training with everyone else, so please don’t worry. I hope you will all be well for your parents and family.”

Having officially left to fulfill his military services for the next 24 months, Kim Heechul continues to garner attention after photos from the military camp were released.
Heechul entered the camp to start basic military training when he left on September 1st and a set of photos featuring Heechul as a soldier gained the interests of his fans. Sporting his new shaved hair along with the official uniform, Heechul joined the rest of the trainees despite being a year older than them. It was further reported that he became the representative of the trainees for the opening ceremony of their training.
On the said ceremony, Kim Heechul was quoted testifying, "It still feels unfamiliar to me right now, but Kangin told me a lot about military camp's life. I believe I can do it."

It’s just been revealed that Super Junior’s Kim Heechul had a meaningful recording session with legendary singer Kim Jang Hoon.
On August 31st, Kim Jang Hoon’s representative revealed, “The song that Kim Jang Hoon and Kim Heechul sang together will be released in mid-September. Kim Heechul is at the recording studio singing his part right now.”
