Following a lawsuit submitted in 2010, Lee Hyori will be paying 190 million Won (~ $168,000 USD) to online shopping mall Interpark to reimburse the company for production costs for advertisements that were not put into production.
On December 6th, the Seoul Central District Court ruled, “Lee and associates to pay Interpark 190 million Won” on Interpark’s claim for damages.
Lee Hyori was signed on as Interpark’s endorsement model back in August of 2009 and was paid 700 million Won (~ $620,510). However, due to plagiarism controversies surrounding her 4th album, she had to stop all promotions.
In response, Interpark filed a claim for damages up to 490 million Won (~ $434,358) in September 2010. However, the courts ruled that Hyori and her agency at the time, CJ E&M, were also victims of the composer who had plagiarized the songs, and did not hold them accountable for the amount.
B2M Entertainment, the singer’s current agency, clarified that the 190 million Won fine was not for damages due to the plagiarism issue, but rather a portion of the sum for the amount of cost that went into the first round of advertisement materials that was not put into production.
