Block B

24 Feb:

It seems that Block B will not be present on the rest of the music programs at least for this week.
After the Thailand interview controversy that has gotten the public riled up, Block B’s name was found to be missing on February 24th’s ‘Music Bank’, 25th’s ‘Music Core’, and 26th’s ‘Inkigayo’.
Although there hasn’t been an official statement released regarding this issue, it seems as if it will be hard for the group to appear on broadcasts for the time being. One source within the industry stated,“Music programs are ones that are watched by people all over the world, so doesn’t it seem that it would be problematic for a group who has done international fans wrong, to make an appearance?” Another staff member from the production team of one music program also stated, “Although it’s not to the point of banning their appearances, until the situation is resolved, Block B’s appearance will be restricted.”
Block B fans have been continuously requesting the appearance of the group, and have flooded ‘Inkigayo’s request bulletin with their posts.
Mnet, who allowed the group to appear on their ‘M! Countdown’ broadcast on February 23rd is currently evaluating the situation and deciding whether to have the group appear next week. A source stated, “We are well aware of the public’s criticisms. However, since there are quite a few days left until the next show, we haven’t yet started discussing any specific details yet.”

23 Feb:

As you all know, Block B has been swept up in controversy over their behavior during an interview in Thailand. Their carefree behavior in front of cameras has been criticized as disrespectful and insensitive towards the people of Thailand. Both the Korean and Thail media have been reporting up a storm about this issue, and as such, the boys found themselves in the headlines, and the subject of fury amongst netizens all over the world.
Although it seems clear that the boys never intended to offend anyone, it seems their actions are seen as unforgivable by many. Petitions have been going around insisting on Block B’s retirement and blocking their appearances from broadcasts, and have gained 10,000 signatures so far.
However, there are also plenty who sympathize with the boys and have been speaking out against these petitions, especially after seeing how truly sorry the boys were and realizing that they had never intended any harm – since part of Block B’s charm lies in their carefreeness.
The boys have already written apologiesbowed 90 degrees on their latest music show appearance, andZico shaved his head in remorse.
In addition, they have released another apology today, this time in the form of a video on their YouTube page with subtitles in Korean, Thai, and English. The boys’ remorse and pain are visible on their faces as they apologize once again to the people of Thailand, and bow to show their sincerity.

19 Feb:

Earlier, we reported that rookie group Block B had gotten themselves involved in a bit of a scandal concerning their controversial manners and attitude during an interview in Thailand. You can read more about the matter and watch the interview yourself here.
After the video hit the airwaves, the members of Block B stepped forward to personally apologize to their disappointed fans and the general public through a post on their official fan cafe.
You can read their apologies below.
P.O.
I apologize for our hurtful attitudes and our manners to all Thai fans and [South Korean] citizens who have given us so much love.
I’m very sorry that I acted in a childish, unreasonable manner throughout the entire interview.
It was an act that ignored the boundary between freedom and the line of decency. Again, I apologize to Thai citizens and fans.
We will deeply reflect upon our mistakes that led to a damaged national image and and the image of its artists.
I feel that we’ve shown so much unreasonable attitudes and actions so we bow deeply in apology.
In the future, as a public servant, we will work hard to show a more mature image. Learning from this event, we will act more conscientiously and responsibly as a South Korean artist.
Zico
I deeply apologize for my unreasonable attitude and creating a controversy due to my childish actions and not taking into account the huge pain and suffering of the Thai people due to the flood damage.
Although I’ve already become an adult, I feel so ashamed of my mistaken comment that did not consider the feelings of the many casualties of the flood and the national psyche.
I believe that no matter what excuse we give, our actions during the interview – sitting cross-legged on the sofa, chatting with members, damaging South Korea’s image abroad, and being unable to differentiate the line between what is right and what is wrong – were unforgivable.
I bow once again to apologize for our actions.
We are sorry that, thanks to our inconsiderate interview, we gave an injury to a not yet healed scar. I am incredibly ashamed. Sorry and sorry again.
U-Kwon
We feel incredibly ashamed that we disappointed with our inconsiderate Thailand interview.
We apologize to all of the Thai citizens who suffered massive damages due to the flood.
Also, we apologize to the citizens of South Korea for failing to uphold the national image thanks to our dishonorable actions.
Watching the interview clip, we are feeling the mistakes that we have made and reflecting deeply.
We apologize once again and Block B will work hard to prevent repeating these inconsiderate and disrespectful actions.
B-Bomb
I apologize from the bottom of my heart.
Apart from being public servants, I apologize for not stopping the actions of my fellow members as the older brother and creating a controversy out of our actions which were against basic manners.
Although we should have shown much more respect and manners asas a Korean, we apologize again for disappointing our fans and Thai citizens with our inconsiderate actions.
We will reflect and reflect some more upon our actions. We apologize.
We will work hard to become a Block B which will not make these mistakes again.
Taeil
First, I would like to say sorry.
There were many people saying, even before this interview, whether or not Block B was too free-willed, and we believe it is our fault that we did not listen to the criticism, however minute, and acting as though it was our strong point, despite being public servants in the eye of the whole nation. All of the members were immature.
I was honestly surprised when our fans sent us the interview clip through SNS [social networking services]. We are the people in the video…we were the disrespectful ones in that interview, I thought, and was filled with shame. I really could sympathize with those saying that we put South Korea to shame.
I once again apologize for both my refusal to control the actions of my younger brothers, and not paying attention to the interview.
I will work harder. I will work harder and repay everyone with better music. To our fans, Thai flood survivors, and everyone, we apologize again.
We will become a more mature Block B, and a more respectful Taeil. Sorry.
Kyung
Hello, this is Block B’s Park Kyung.
I don’t have anything to say other than sorry.
We know that whatever we say, it will only be excuses.
All of our actions, from the beginning to the end of the interview, from our members’ immature actions and the joking, and our statements disregarding the severity of the incident, were out of line and we are ashamed and reflecting upon our mistakes.
We bow our heads again in apology.
Jaehyo
We deeply apologize to the citizens of Thailand.
Also, we are very sorry to South Korea for degrading the nation’s image and shaming them.
We apologize for making people uncomfortable with our lack of respect and playful attitude.
Although I should’ve been the example to the younger members, I apologize for not being able to fulfill that role.
I could have set the interview on the right track, but I was irresponsible and participated in the proceedings and I apologize for embarrassing everyone watching the video.
I am reflecting upon my shameful actions and lack of basic manners during an interview and looking back upon myself. There are no excuses, nor explanations necessary.
I am thinking deeply about this huge mistake and will act with more thought in the future.
I apologize.

With Block B‘s recent visit to Thailand, the popular news source RYT9 sat down with the young men for an extensive interview about the group’s background, current activities and more.
What’s getting viewers around the world riled up is Block B’s playful attitude and a variety of comments they made throughout the video that came across as rude and insensitive.
The interview begins with the members still getting settled with the interview, with one member even sprawling himself across the coffee table. Then at 3:40, Block B was asked about the origins of their group name. After leader Zico explained, he turned to the translator and stated, “You know this!
At the 9:15 mark, the interviewer asked, “What separates you from other Korean hip-hop artists?” Zico then said, “We’re probably considered ugly to be idols. But we feel confident in our technical abilities.”P.O was then seen sliding back on the couch, pushing his legs up into the air and clapping his hands and feet together in unison. Zico continued, “And sometimes we have crazy clowns like him.” U-Kwonlaughed and suddenly stood up and started dancing around, followed by a loud monkey imitation as he swung his arms and screeched.
What has really gripped the attention and anger of viewers was the group’s commentary on the recent flooding in Thailand. At the 12:32 mark, the interviewer brought up the crisis, to which Zico replied, “I know that many people have it hard due to the flood. With this monetary aid, we hope that you will feel better. The only thing we have is money.” To this, another member chimed in, asking how much money Zico had, to which the leader answered, “About 7000 won?” which is roughly $6 USD. The other members laughed again.
Watch the interview below:

With such comments, the Youtube video has quickly escalated in views, earning nearly 103,000 views at the time of this article with a 95% negative rating. While some fans and viewers are defending Block B’s behavior as their typical trolling, some netizens assert that the group has gone too far with this interview.
If you are going to act in this despicable manner, I invite you to go home. It’s like you’ve never been taught any manners,” one Thai netizen commented. An international viewer commented, “Even though I don’t understand what they’re saying, I think it’s really really rude to make fun of something that’s obviously not funny in the first place. It was so embarrassing and really mean. You just lost a fan, Block B.
In response to the widespread hate, Korean netizens have also made an attempt to apologize and express their shame. ”Congrats Block B for making worldwide [anti-fans] not just in Korea but also in Thailand. As a Korean myself, I feel so terribly [ashamed] that you’re all Koreans. I sincerely [apologize] for Thai people,” one commented. Another said, “Thais, please do not support them. They are bunch of rude and disrespectful jerks. I doubt the translator translated everything. They are just young boys? Well, they better learn their manners if they want to be successful. And they are not that young either. It’s actually very embarrassing that they are Korean.
The original comments by Block B have since been widely translated (and mistranslated) then distributed through the internet, sparking fanwars and arguments from the Hottest fandom and Thai fans.
The issue has received so much attention that NichkhunJunho and Chansung of 2PM took to Twitter to comment on the matter.
A Thai citizen himself, Nichkhun tweeted, “As a Thai, I’m offended by those who talk about the flooding in Thailand without thinking. If you come to Thailand, rather than acting without thinking, please respect this country and only behave with a proper attitude.
In response to Nichkhun, hip hop legend Drunken Tiger tweeted, “Not everybody like that bro. Keep speaking the truth tho #prayers!
Junho retweeted Nichkhun’s post then commented, “I won’t say who, but those behaviors and attitudes make me ashamed as a fellow Korean. I wish they would learn that one bad action doesn’t just affect them, but also creates a dirty mess for those around them. I say this as a person and a sunbae.
Chansung tweeted, “Even if carelessness can seem inevitable even if you’re trying your best to avoid it, if you’re absent-minded and hurt others then act like you’re the best, that’s being careless. This is more than a mistake and proves that you’re that kind of person.. Shame on you.
In the wake of the controversy, each member of Block B wrote an apology letter addressing their behavior during the interview. Read the official apologies here.

3 Feb:

Hip hop group Block B drew a lot of interest with their powerful new dance track “Nanrina“, and fans were blown away by their intense MV.
Block B also recently released a behind-the-scenes video, revealing footage of the boys during the actual music video shoot. Turns out, not only are they talented and charming, they’ve got quite the sense of humor as well.
Check out the video and translations of some of the dialogue we caught below!

Zico: Where are we?
Park Kyung: What are we doing?
Zico: CNN, CNN.
Park Kyung: What are we doing, why are you dressed like this?
Zico: Ah, we are here because we are filming our new MV for “Nanrina”
Park Kyung: Block B’s second mini-album, ‘Welcome To The Block‘!
Zico: Yes, our second album is going to be released soon. Everyone please look forward to it.
Park Kyung: We’re going to cause so much ‘commotion’. I told you guys, we’re going to cause commotion!
Park Kyung: I have a scene where I have to swing around a baseball bat, and my hands hurt a little bit. This shoot is so different from my every day life, so its hard. I’m usually a reserved, calm guy but this is so different.
U-kwon: It’s cold, It’s cold. Look at what I’m wearing. I’m wearing a tank top under this.
P.O: I think B team did really well. Block B’s leader, ZICO, is really good. (Yeah, right)
Woman: There’s a huge difference between your styles!
Park Kyung: You know why? It’s because we are hip hop idols. Those that can exhibit true hip hop swag are part of team B, and those that can’t are team A. This kind of stuff, anyone can do. You just need to put it on and walk in, but not everyone can pull this off. You need hip hop.
Jae Hyo: I don’t think my look would work for you at all.
Park Kyung: I don’t really think it’s working for you, either.
P.O: I’m Team B too, and I have hip hop swag. But I need to go help Team A. My spirit is here with Team B.
Minkyuk: This is the first time we are trying out these moves here, so we have to figure it out as we go. It’s hard to do because the floors here are so different from the ones at our rehearsal studio.
Man: Who messes up the most when it comes to your dance?
Park Kyung: Me… I make the most mistakes. But, I’m not the worst dancer.
Man: Then who is?
Taeil: …. (no answer)
U-Kwon: A dog that fits the image of Block B? Doberman?
U-Kwon: It’s now 3:00, which means we’ve been doing this for 22 hours now.
Park Kyung: You can’t edit this! You need to air this as is, and show Min Hyuk’s true self.

20 September:
Block B provided some fresh shock and laughter when they trolled at their first red carpet event back in July.  It seems they’re making this their own thing, as the boys have done it again while exiting their first showcase tour in Japan.

On September 19th, Block B kicked off their first showcase live tour, “Do U Wanna B?“, at the ZEPP Tokyo. The tour will be continuing on to ZEPP Osaka on the 22nd, ZEPP Nagoya on the 24th, and ZEPP Fukuoka on the 25th, totaling to four cities.
On their first stage in Tokyo, Block B opened up with “Halo” and went on to perform “Freeze!“, Taeiland Zico‘s solo stages, U-Kwon and B-Bomb‘s dance battle, Zico, Park Kyung, and P.O.’s rap stage, and Taeil, Jaehyo, U-Kwon, and B-Bomb’s ballad stage. They received an enthusiastic response for their ability to present a wide array of musical genres.
Wanna B” in particular was especially charming in that they were able to express who they were as Korea’s hip hop idols. Once all of the stages were presented, fans shouted and roared until the boys returned on stage to perform an encore with “Tell Them“.
After the concert, the members expressed their gratitude towards their fans with a high touch event and promised to see them again.
In the following press conference, leader Zico stated, “I once came here to study abroad but this time, I’m here as a singer. I didn’t think that so many people would come, and the response that everyone gave was very enthusiastic.”
When asked about Block B’s charms, he replied, “We’re someone very close to our fans, like a hyung in the neighborhood; just very friendly. Each individual member in our team excels in their area, whether it be ballad, dance, or rap, and not just in our visual performance.”
Exiting the press conference, they all walked out in bizarre zombie poses that left reporters stunned and fans in a fit of laughter.

23 August:
The questionable standards of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family have been highlighted once again with the second ban of Block B’s debut track, “Freeze!

As reported earlier, the song was banned by the MOGEF earlier this year for containing lyrics describing unwholesome dating methods. Two lines in particular were judged to be unacceptable: “Send all of your friends home”, and “I’m waiting for you right here.”
Fans questioned the ban, especially since the lyrics didn’t mention any alcohol or sexual activity.
Nevertheless, Brand New Stardom decided to re-edit the lines to “My eyes are already watching you”, and “This night is waiting for you”. They resubmitted the song for re-evaluation in order to put it in their “New Kids on the Block” release, and the MOGEF passed the edit, allowing Block B to re-release “Freeze” through their mini-album.
However, on August 27th, MOGEF had banned the song once again without giving any notice to the company or its artists, and they did not provide an explanation detailing why.
Block B fans hoping to attend fan signings have begun to protest, especially since the album is no longer available for sale to minors.
Member U-Kwon commented on his Twitter, “Kids can’t listen to idol music anymore.”
In other related news, Block B will be going on a four-city nationwide Japanese showcase tour next month, all of which sold out within three minutes of going on sale.

12 August:
Block B, who recently made their comeback with their first mini-album, “New Kids on the Block“, has just informed allkpop that they’ll be heading over to the Philippines on September 1st to represent Korea at the Mall of Asia.

The event is being held in celebration of ‘Visit Korea Year’ and will be hosted by “The Crossover: Miso & KPOP“; the event is actually part of a three-country tour, one of which is in the Philippines. This performance will be all the more meaningful, as it was also held to celebrate the opening of the Korean Culture Center.
As representatives of Korea, Block B will be giving performances on behalf of their fellow idols. The boys were chosen through a survey held by concert sponsors HS Media, who asked locals about which act they wanted to see the most.
As a special treat for their fans, Block B will be performing a new track from their mini-album for the very first time.  In addition, the boys will also be performing alongside a traditional Korean performance group named MISO (美笑), a group who’s performed for over 650,000 people over the course of 14 years.  The group will be introducing traditional instruments such as the kukak, dances, and folk tales like ‘Chunhyangjun’.
Block B will also be heading to Japan for a scheduled performance in September, followed by scheduled performances in Thailand and China in November.

23 July:
On July 23rd, Block B and other artists attended the “MTV Cyworld Music Festival 2011 Dream” at the AX-KOREA Hall in Kwangjang-dong, Seoul.

Ahead of the concert, stars walked the red carpet against a special photo wall to greet reporters and fans, and Block B made everyone burst into laughter when they busted out some comedic poses.
Reporters were amused to see that they weren’t like the other idols who were all posing to look as cool as possible and joked over whether this was the birth of a new ‘gag idol’ with headlines like, “Have you ever seen such a photo session from idols?”
Netizens commented, “That was weak, guys, go harder!”, “That’s okay, we didn’t expect idol poses from them either”, “What is managing your image? Is it something you eat?”, and “Happy 100th dayversary.”
The concert will be aired on July 30th at 8pm on MTV, and will also be broadcasted in 10 different Asian countries through MTV Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and more.

30 June:
Block B’s comeback mini-album, “New Kids on the Block“, previously sold out in pre-orders, leading representatives to observe how their actual debut would fare.

Living up to the anticipations, Block B has managed to completely sell out their first batch of productions, ranking second in album sales in just the first week of its release.
On this week’s ‘Gaon‘ album sales chart, the boys trailed right behind 2PM, who placed first with “Hands Up“, which is definitely an exceptional case for a rookie group. Representatives were surprised at the rookie’s ability to play right up there with Hallyu stars, and acknowledged their growing popularity.

So what’s the secret behind their success? Their label, Brand New Stardom, highlighted the influence of the Hallyu wave. Cho PD explained, “It took 50 days for them to garner over 5,000 fanclub members and just a day for their official Facebook to get 13,000 clicks from all over the world. They’ve doubled what took Korea 50 days to achieve in just under a day.”
SNS is the strongest platform for the current K-pop market. Music programs, music videos, and digital releases are spread all over the world from the moment of its release, which helps greatly in gathering a fanbase. Cho PD mentioned that the data collected from YouTube and Facebook helps in understanding the group’s current position, and fans through other services like Tumblr help spread awareness through their own SNS accounts.
Through this system, the fan, singer, and label effectively become one working system that operates on a mutual understanding.

19 June:
Block B and their producer, Cho PD, recently sat down for an interview with BNT News and revealed their thoughts on one another and their careers.

While Cho PD was like a proud father, reporters noticed that the members of Block B actually contrasted against their stronger image with innocent personalities.
Check out their first interview together below!
===
Q. “Why did you create Block B?”
Cho PD: “You can’t become an artist with just talent these days. If you want to be popular, you have to be skilled in singing, dancing, character, and even looks. I really wanted to find good gemstones.”
Q. “What was Cho PD’s first impression like?”
Block B: “He kind of looked like a monkey…”
Zico: “When I first saw him two years ago, he looked like an uncle.  He was wearing a t-shirt and jeans so I wasn’t too intimidated by him.”
Jaehyo: “He has extremely nice skin.  I knew from the moment I saw him that he was the CEO.”
Taeil: “I was only used to seeing him on stage, but seeing him in person wasn’t as scary as I thought it’d be.”
U-Kwon: “The first time I saw him, I only saw his back as he was walking in for a meeting. I found out that he was the CEO later, so my first impression of him is just of his back.”
P.O: “He has a greater body than what he looks like on TV, so I was really scared of his first impression.”
Kyung: “He looked cold and chic, like the son of a rich family.”
B-Bomb: “I was in his music video when I was in high school, so I didn’t think I’d see him again as my CEO. Back then, he was someone I wanted to emulate, but seeing him in person now, he was normal.”
Q. “Cho PD seems like a father to Block B.”
Cho PD: “They say that your kids will learn bad habits if you just let everything slide, but I want to give them respect. I chose kids that are worthy of that respect, and I know that they’re going to be raised into a position of respect. Just because I give them that respect earlier doesn’t mean that they’ll go wrong. It just means I have that much more expectations for them.”
Block B: “When we’re tired from rehearsals, he’ll visit our dorm with delicious food.  When we said we wanted to eat meat on a radio show, he bought us meat all week long.”
Q. “What made Cho PD so captivated by Block B?”
Zico: “Rap.”
Jaehyo: “My visuals?  I heard that he fell in love with my emotional voice.”
Taeil: “My singing, of course.”
U-Kwon: “He chose me as his dark horse, but I really don’t know why.  I think he thought well of my improvements.”
Kyung: “I think my voice. I’m a good rapper, but I also have good character.”
B-Bomb: “I think my performance, and also the fact that I had met him twice like fate.”
Q. “Which member doesn’t listen to you the most?”
Cho PD: “They all listen to me well now.  It’s not a problem for me because I had told them before, ‘If you don’t want to do it, leave.  Only those that can handle it must stay.’  Only the members that were willing to put their lives on the line are left now.”
Block B: “We all listen to him well, and U-Kwon is always working hard.  Zico has a tendency to rebel or go off track, but he always listens to whatever U-Kwon tells him to do.”

Q. “Is Block B also pressured to take care of their bodies?”
Cho PD: “I made them work out from the beginning, but it’s hidden now.  Personally, I think that bodies with too much muscle… mmm, I’ll get antis if I say it like this, but I think it’s kind of countrified.  Trying to look cool with a good body worked in the 80s with people like Arnold Schwarzenegger andSylvester Stallone.  In this generation, it’s about tall, modern looking things.  As far as exposure goes, I respect the opinions of the members.”
Block B: “We’re really hidden.  Zico works out a lot and Kyung does too, but once he stops, he stops for good.  We also hope that there will never come a point where we have to expose our bodies.”
Kyung: “I’m a man like fire.”
Q. “Does Block B have a set amount to spend on food like other idols?”
Cho PD: “I think in all of Korea, our company pays the most for meals.  Aside from the expenses, I’d like for the members to eat more healthy food like chicken breasts and whatnot, but they eat too much fast food instead.”
Block B: “We’re allowed exactly $6.50 USD!”
Jaehyo: “Before our debut, we were only allowed to eat bean paste stew.  I think because our CEO is so busy that he doesn’t know, but we’ve just now ‘leveled up’ to eat soft tofu stew.”
P.O: “I got in trouble for eating fried fish yesterday.”
Block B: “We don’t eat fast food because we want to.  We want to eat healthy food too but our manager says we don’t have time and buys us hamburgers (laughter).”
Q. “To conclude the interview, could you say something on your future goals and for your fans?”
Cho PD: “There’s a lot of antis because Block B isn’t doing something that’s considered ‘gangster hip hop.’  We’re not, however, putting everything into our title tracks.  The market is a single market, and we’re doing our best to show their true colors, but it seems people are being impatient with that.  For now, we’re going to be on a full run until Block B wins first place.  Only after the kids are on a strong foundation will I be releasing my own albums.  I am also considering creating other groups.”
Block B: “We worked hard to show a new image with our first mini-album.  It’s an album that’s chock full of things, so please look forward to it.  We will be taking this opportunity to show our true talents.”

30 Mei:

Remember before Block B’s debut, when it was revealed that the members were trained to write over 100 songs to foster their production abilities? Well, a lot of people were skeptical and thought of it as hype, but as it turns out, they weren’t kidding.
In addition to leader Zico’s 19-track pre-debut mixtape, “ZICO on the Block“, netizens have discovered a 21-track pre-debut mixtape by Zico and Kyung, which is just one of the many that seem to be out there.
In response to the discovery, Cho PD wrote through his Tumblr, “I got more than 120 tracks that Zico & Kyung did during their training period on my iTunes folder. Numbers keep growing cuz they still work hard day & nite ^^”.
While it was “ZICO on the Block” that really solidified his position underground, netizens found this mixtape a lot more versatile in style. This certainly adds anticipation to their comeback mini-album next month, since Zico is at the head as producer.
The entire mixtape is available for free download here.

Ulzzang member Jaehyo showed off his talents as a casting manager by revealing that he was the one that introduced Junhyung to Cube Entertainment and Lee Joon to J. 23 April:

Over the past week, Block B guested on MBC’s radio program,”Park Kyung Lim’s Starry Night“, in seven minute segments per day to let fans get to know each of the seven individual members on a more personal level.

The boys also performed their entire debut EP – “Wanna B“, “Freeze“, and “Is It Only Me?” – as well as a track from leader Zico’s self-produced mixtape, “Turn Around“. Main vocalist Taeil also performed a cover of Kim Bum Soo’s “Please“.
When asked about the meaning behind their group name, Zico explained, “It’s actually derived from the term ‘blockbuster’, which is typically used to describe movies of larger, impressive scales. We hope to have the same blockbuster effect on the Korean music industry.”
The series of profile talks kicked off with “Birth of A Great Star” contestant, Taeil. Fans were surprised to hear that he had a high-toned talking voice, when they were used to his deep and powerful singing voice. Taeil revealed a unique hobby of raising exotic fishes; he had 50 before he cut down to 10 just before beginning his promotions with Block B.

Moving on to B-Bomb (Minhyuk), who’s also from “Battle Shinhwa“, he revealed that his unique name actually held two meanings. First, ‘bibum‘ in Korean means to be unique and rare, which are qualities he hopes to embody. ’Bibum‘ was then stylized into B-Bomb to give his name a double meaning of ‘explosive influence’. When asked which senior he’d like to meet, he chose Big Bang’s Seungri.
Member Jaehyo revealed that he was  and that he’s close friends with IU and that one of his specialties were ‘office work’. When pressed for more details, he revealed that it was actually listed by his parents because of his fast typing skills. Jaehyo can apparently type 600 keys per minute, which stunned the MC and listeners alike.
Block B’s self-proclaimed ’smile representative’ U-Kwon showed off his interests in the arts by introducing his favorite movie, book, and song to the listeners. He recommended the song “I’m Scared of the Dark Tonight” by 10cm, the book “Shiny Shiny Shining” by Ekuni Kaori, and the movie “The Hangover.”

Park Kyung was teased by MC Park Kyung Lim for being only one character off from her own name and was asked to share any stories he had regarding their similarity in name. To the amusement of others, Kyung assured that his name was indeed only one character long.
The leader and the group’s producer, Zico, performed a short but sweet freestyle rap for the listeners of the show, and went on to reveal that his hobbies included watching American comedies and writing raps. Both hobbies went hand in hand, as he said that he picked up a lot of witty ideas for his raps from comedy scripts.
Lastly, the group’s youngest, P.O., was teased for his deep, husky voice, but turned around and stunned listeners by pulling off a voice imitation of Jo Kwon’s high-toned thin voice.

15 April:
Cho PD’s Block B finally unveiled themselves earlier today, and much attention is now being put on the individual members. allkpop was informed by Brand New Stardom that all seven members endured their fair share of hardships before they came together to be the group they are today.

The group’s oldest, Jaehyo, was actually a trainee for B2ST but eventually had to give up his dreams and return home after injuring his knee with heavy rehearsals. When he received surgery for his knee, he was later encouraged by MBLAQ’s Lee Joon to stand up and try again. Under his support, Jaehyo mustered the bravery to try out once more, and fortunately passed.
Maknae P.O. was actually eliminated during the group’s first official audition. He tried out again a year later after losing 10 kg and training intensively to improve his vocals and dance skills. Cho PD watched over his progress, and decided to include him in the final line-up, opposing the voices encouraging him to drop P.O.
Cho PD’s personal ‘dark horse’, member U-Kwon, was also a trainee that failed his camera test in the beginning of their training. After the shock of the experience, he geared up his determination and came back for a second audition, essentially stunning everyone in the room with his favorable profile.
Kyung was chosen as a trainee while he was studying abroad in New Zealand, and is also one of the most experienced members of the group. He was dropped from the final line-up for Block B because Cho PD felt that he would be a better fit as a leader for another group. However, Kyung fasted for 10 days afterwards, and worked to prove himself once more in order to become a member of Block B, which eventually led Cho PD to give into Kyung’s determination.
Leader Zico, like the rest, was also dropped from the initial line-up because they felt that he didn’t have enough what it took to be a leader. According to Cho PD, a true leader needed to have the will to stand up eight times after failing seven. After suffering a brief period of depression, Zico picked himself up again and returned to wow the crowd for a second time.
Main vocalist Taeil is already well-known for being eliminated from MBC’s “Birth of A Great Star“. Taeil didn’t let that stop him, though, as he later tried out for Cho PD’s audition and passed, managing to go straight into recording for Block B’s title track.
Rounding out with member B-Bomb, the industry has their eyes set on these seven members and are already anticipating what they’ll be bringing to the table.

10 April:Cho PD’s brainchild of two years – Block B – has been earning explosive interest these past couple of weeks, both in Korea and overseas such as South East Asia and Europe.

Their teaser, which was released on April 4th, was the oil to the fire that set ablaze the anticipation amongst Korean and international fans. Not only did it rank at the top in search rankings on major portal sites likeNate, but on YouTube and allkpop, the biggest Hallyu portal, as well. News portals in South East Asia have also been focusing on Block B, proving the boys to be one of the most anticipated debuts of the year.
A representative of Brand New Stardom commented, “Already since months before, we’ve been receiving promotional offers in countries like Thailand and Vietnam. We ourselves are quite amazed how they heard of our group already. Cho PD already has plans for a large-scale investor relations in Japan and China well underway. He’s been working on construction a consortium and other PT information, but he’s been keeping it under wraps, so our office doesn’t know anything more than that either.”
Cho PD himself added, “I have been working with KOTRA and other government agencies in order to prepare an IR that is not often used in the case of the entertainment industry. Plans have been postponed for about a month, but I will be utilizing the opportunity to perfect it even further.”
The industry is also keeping close tabs on the group, particularly the album and broadcast industry. They’ve already received a flood of sponsor offers, an exceptional feat for a group that’s yet to debut. With less than a week left to go, the spotlight and anticipation proves to be stronger than ever.
Block B will be officially debuting on April 14th.

31 Maret:Hip hop artist/producer Cho PD snagged everyone’s attention when he announced his unconventional plans for his upcoming boy group, Block B.

It’s a well known fact that agency CEOs and senior producers decide the musical direction for their rookie artists. It’s also become customary for these producers to blatantly decide when rookies don’t have enough experience, in addition to extorting their copyright rights from them when it comes to producing music. Although many have voiced their opposition to these trends, Cho PD is one of the few to stir his feelings into action.
The producer has revealed that he has not laid a finger on any of the songs included in Block B’s debut album, nor will he be debuting their work under his name.
Cho PD explained, “Popularity can disappear, but talent will always remain. I want to instill in my artists the ability to grow on their own. Allowing the members to receive their rightfully earned copyright income expands the duration of their career.”
He continued, “Agency CEOs and producers working for only their own profit are not only selfish, but deprive the artists of the opportunities they need. If they really have a message or lyrics that they want to deliver, they should aid the members to find it and write it themselves. There are prevalent instances where people will add their names to the co-producers credits, and extort copyright when all they did was add the sound of one cymbal. But to me, that’s outdated and undemocratic, and I’m sure that such a system won’t last long.”
Noting the various issues surrounding artists, their fanclubs, and their agencies, Cho PD also mentioned that he would be trying a variety of other systems to prevent problems from arising, such as allowing the boys to run their fanclub themselves.
Block B will be making their official debut on April 14th.

24 Maret:
A contestant from MBC’s “Birth of a Great Star” will be debuting as a part of Cho PD’s upcoming hip hop group, Block B!

Originally, his debut was unconfirmed because of a severe knee injury that rendered him unable to participate in Block B’s training. His condition has since improved, and Cho PD has decided to go ahead with his debut in the group.
On March 24th, Block B’s choreography director, Go Yoon Young, revealed, “We thought that he wouldn’t recover in time to film the group’s debut music video, but as the date drew near, he showed much determination and managed to recover in quickly.”
This anonymous member was once eliminated during the “Great Camp” episode of “Birth of a Great Star”. He later tried out for Cho PD’s audition and passed, managing to go straight into recording for Block B’s title track under composer Assbrass.
Cho PD commented, “Last week, I watched him take part in the music video and album jacket shoot, and felt that everything was finally finding its place. I’m really happy with the results.”
The seven-member boy group is scheduled to debut on April 14th.
