30 Maret:
After lashing out against netizens for criticizing her ‘iljin‘ hair yesterday, actress Kim Min Ji has taken back her words and apologized for her “thoughtless actions.”
On the morning of March 30th, she wrote:
“Hello, this is Kim Min Ji.First of all, I would like to apologize and express my gratitude to the fans that both worried and reprimanded me.
I was so pressured by the sudden attention that was coming on to me and the fact that people were judging me with one view. I believe I reacted too emotionally. My experience in the industry isn’t much, and I was pained by the sudden hateful replies I was receiving. I’ll now consider it as a form of interest in me and work harder to show a better side of myself.
I am reflecting on my thoughtless actions and the unsuitable way I expressed myself yesterday. Through this experience, I will learn and mature to show improvement.”
In addition, a representative of her agency, NOA Entertainment, commented, “Her hair in her graduation photo was not her real hair, it was a wig. She was wearing the wig while rehearsing for a theater class and took a picture with it as well.”
29 Maret:Kim Min Ji’s graduation photos were a hot topic on the internet. It looks like things took a turn for the nasty, as the actress recently lashed out against the hateful comments made by netizens because of her past hairstyles.
One style in particular is drawing a lot of attention, because it’s characteristically known for being popular amongst ‘iljins,’ a type of rebellious, gang-like group in schools.
On the morning of March 29th, Kim Min Ji wrote the following through her mini-homepage:
“Did I commit such an evil against society by having that hairstyle for my junior high school graduation photo? Did I kill someone? Just because I have that hairstyle, I’m suddenly an ‘iljin’ now?Because of this simple hairstyle, I’ve now become some kind of trashy street-gang member that should go die. Seriously, in just one moment, I’ve become some kind of disgusting monster.I’m pursuing a career that I love. Is there a law that says I can’t have that hair style when taking pictures? Why do my parents need to be cursed at just because I chose such a hairstyle for my photo? Did I commit such an evil against everyone? Really… this, this is so hard. But you know what? I’m not as tasteless as the people who judge someone without even knowing them, and treat them and their parents like trash over a hairstyle. Even when I had that hairstyle, I never treated someone like trash, nor did I say things that dug at their hearts. It’s so easy for you all to kill someone, isn’t it?”
The post has since been deleted from her Cyworld.
27 Maret:Four months into MCing for KBS’s “Music Bank,” actress Kim Min Ji feels that she’s ready to tackle just about anything on the show now that she’s gone garnered enough experience through her fair share of live mishaps.
In a recent interview with Star News, she reminisced back to first being chosen for the role, stating, “When I first heard that I was chosen as the MC, I was in a state of daze. I couldn’t feel that I was actually going to be an MC on a music program that I loved watching at home. I’m starting to feel it now, though. Students recognize me on the streets and greet me; it’s a lot of fun. I’m trying not to think about it as a live broadcast and just trying to enjoy it.”
When asked to describe any hardships she faced as a new MC, Kim Min Ji explained, “It was at the time of my second broadcast on December 10th. We had already said all of our pre-prepared lines, but there was still a considerable amount of time left and producers kept asking us to stall. Hyun Woo-ssi and I tried our best by ad-libbing, but there was still time left.”
At the mention of headlining for accidentally hitting SECRET’s Sunhwa on the head with her mic, she added, “A while ago, we were interviewing SECRET on their comeback. I was reading my script and raised my mic towards Sunhwa, but at that moment, she had lowered her head to level with the mic, resulting in a collision. The sound was really loud, like ‘kwang!’ I was shocked and also very apologetic towards Han Sunhwa-ssi.”
Kim Min Ji stated, “Every time I make a mistake, I get really upset. Recently, I caught a cold and couldn’t get my voice to come out right before the broadcast. I eventually had to get an IV a day before, which upset me a lot because I felt that I wasn’t being professional enough.”
“PD Kim Ho Sang supports me a lot, though, and gives me encouraging messages before broadcasts like, ‘Let’s be fighting today!’ Whenever I feel apologetic for making a lot of mistakes, he always tells me that it’s okay and consoles me like his own daughter.”
There’s no denying that the industry is flooded with idols lately, which raises curiosity as to how close she is with them, especially since she works so up close and personal with idols on a weekly basis.
“I thought I’d get close to them too, but it’s not really like that. The waiting room for MCs and the waiting room for artists are actually quite far apart so I haven’t had the opportunity to get closer with them. Even so, I’ve gotten close with SECRET’s Hyosung and Big Bang’s Seungri. I don’t quite have the freedom of mindset to be making friends yet.”

Kim Min Ji is known for being cast on the streets back in 2007 and for even winning #1 at an SM Entertainment audition. Put between the choices of pursuing a career as a singer and an actress, she eventually chose acting.
She mused, “If I had continued to train to become a singer under SM Entertainment, I might have become an SNSD member by now (laughter). I worried a lot then over deciding between singing and acting. I’m a lover of dramas, though, and at the time, ‘Full House’ was really popular. I was so into it that my mother often teased that I’d have memorized all of the lines. Eventually, my father had the biggest influence on me, as he advised, ‘Pursue your first dream, and what you are sure you will do your best at.’ I eventually chose acting then.”
When asked about her future goals, she concluded, “Ever since I was 17, each year, my dream was to win a rookie award. I was always so jealous watching awards ceremonies and wondered if I’d be able to stand on the same stage years from now. I’d even practice my own awards speech because just the thought of it made me happy. This year, I want to get my name known as actress Kim Min Ji. You can look forward to it!”
