24 member girl group, Leader’S, will make their debut in the beginning of next year.
Though the group’s actual debut is a few months away, it’s been confirmed that the profiles of each member will be released this month. It was also recently revealed that the eight member groupLeader’S T, pictured above, was only a sub-unit of the whole group.
TGN Entertainment revealed the reasoning behind this unique group size, stating,
“We hope you will be mesmerized by the harmony of twenty-four girls. When you look at the idol groups these days, they are called “single line singers” because most have each members singing only a line out of a song. Many people have been saying, “If you have 24 members then they will sing one word instead of one line,” but every member of Leader’S will sing from the beginning to the end. All of the members have undeniably good vocals. Even their twelve hour practices mostly consist of vocal training.”

It has been revealed that the eight ladies of Leader’S, the girl group that received attention after releasing their ’2018 Pyungchang Olympics’ congratulatory song, are actually one unit of a larger 24-member girl group.
Their agency TGN Entertainment stated, “TGN is the acronym for TaGoNa (meaning ‘gifted at birth’ in Korean), and we have embarked on a project to debut separate units LeadersT, LeadersG, andLeadersN, in that order. The group currently promoting their track “Kiss Me” are members of the LeadersT unit.”
They continued, “We have selected these girls through a survival competition, and the members of the units may interchange, depending on the situation. LeadersG and LeadersT are working hard to make their official debut.”
The idea for the 24-member Leader’S was taken from the mega popular Japanese girl group, AKB48, and TGN Entertainment decided to grow the girl group, 8 members at a time.
But why 8? The number 8 is considered to be a lucky number in the Chinese culture, and ‘pal’, the Korean word for ‘eight’, sounds similar to the first synonym of ‘Pachai’ which in Chinese means, ‘to make money’. Their idea is that the girls of Leader’S will dominate the largest (Chinese) market in the world.
Different from most idol girl groups, Leader’S will not be pushing neither a ‘sexy’ nor ‘adorable’ concept, rather, they’re attempting to create a friendly, approachable image for themselves.
Their agency stated, “We want the girls to feel like friends to the fans, rather than celebrities. We want them to seem more approachable than other idol groups.”
And rather than each member having a fixed ‘style’, the members will be flexible to adapt and change, depending on what the fans desire.
TGN Entertainment understands that above all, vocal talent is more important than anything else and they’re rigorously training each member. All 24 girls are practicing dance and singing for around 12 hours a day.
LeadersT include members leader Dahae (25), Sulji (22), Serin (20), Yeonshil (20), Pengie (19)Chae Yool (18), Yesol (17), Kyung Sook (17), etc. Their ages all vary between 17-25.
The ladies of LeadersT are actively promoting their single “Kiss Me” on various music programs such as Mnet’s M! Countdown.
14 October:
Eight-member girl group Leader’S recently released their congratulatory theme song for the 2018 Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics. Consisting of students from high schools for the arts, Leader’S is a new group that plans to promote the group and the Olympics with their new dance track, “Olympic Korea.”
The song is the first upbeat track to follow the duet between Kim Yuna and Park Jung Hyun earlier this year promoting the 2018 Olympics as well.
“Olympic Korea” was produced by Jung Won Soo, a maker of many hit trot songs including Nam Jin‘s “Windy Road” and Hyun Chul‘s “Love Explosion.” The track has a general pop electronic feel with a slight trot twist and is easy enough for anyone to follow along with.
Jung Won Soo said, “I transfered the excitement I felt from hearing the 2018 Pyeong Chang news into simple lyrics and matched it with the fundamental Korean melody. I gave the song to a girl group that I believe will best use this song to cheer at the events,” and to carry on the excitement through 2018.
The group chose the name Leader’S because they want to become the leaders of Korean girl groups.
20 September:
After making their debut in the spring then making a comeback in the summer, pop group Leader’Sreturns yet again with a new single album! It looks like the group has added a new member as well, as their latest concept photo reveals a total of eight members.
Released on September 19th, the single features two tracks, “Kiss Me” and “Hope”. With both tracks featuring infectious synthesized dance tunes, it’s clear that Leader’S will be taking the dance pop path as a group. While “Kiss Me” sounds like something you could hear in a club, “Hope” features a slightly slower beat while still staying in the pop realm.

16 April:
Out of all of the girl group debuts this year, Leader’S is probably one of the few that managed to catch positive interest for their interesting musical style.
Comprised of Serin, Chae Yool, Yeon Shil, Seol Ji, Yesol, Cindy, and leader Dahae, the girls debuted back in March with a two track single titled “Please“, and hoped to become trend-setting leaders of the Korean music industry.
Chae Yool revealed, “I was captivated by BoA’s ‘No. 1‘ when I was in fourth grade. It inspired me to learn dance; I promoted in my dance club in junior high before moving onto an arts high school. I can still picture every scene of BoA’s music video in my head, so it feels like a dream that I’ve finally become a singer myself.”
Leader Dahae, who’s also the oldest (1986), began learning Korean traditional dance when she was seven years old and eventually went on to major in it at the Korea National University of Arts.
Leader Dahae, who’s also the oldest (1986), began learning Korean traditional dance when she was seven years old and eventually went on to major in it at the Korea National University of Arts.
Since Dahae lived her life thinking only of dance, her friend once asked her, “Do you have any interest in acting?”. Her suggestion caused Dahae to take an interest in the entertainment industry, which led her to eventually meet her current agency and thus debut as a leader of Leader’S.
She explained, “I trained for two years and began meeting each of the members one by one. Seeing the shape of the group slowly take form only solidified my dream to become a singer.”
Maknae Yesol (1994) accomplished her dream of becoming a singer against the wishes of her parents. Growing up in Busan, she attending acting academies to foster her celebrity dreams. Unfortunately, her father wasn’t supportive. Still, she was determined to make it, and so she blindly headed off to Seoul to attend auditions for agencies.
When she signed with one, she reported the good news back home, but her father had reported her as missing and threatened her to return immediately. Yesol had no choice but to take the next taxi home all the way back to Busan.
Yesol revealed, “These days, my father’s my biggest supporter. The taxi ride cost $450 USD at the time, and he still jokes around by asking me to succeed and pay him back that money (laughter).”
Overcoming their personal hardships was only half the battle though, as they’re now facing one of the most competitive eras for girl groups yet.
Serin stated, “I think that the other girl groups have such a standardized concept with overly impressive sounds. Our music is easy to follow along with and has a comfortable charm that simultaneously brings out the charms of all seven members.”
Member Seol Ji majored as a make-up artist, so she’s also the style counselor for the team. “The seven of us may look simple together, but there’s a team color that really helps us stand out. We don’t want to just be that cute, young girl group. We want to use the broad range in our ages to present a variety of different charms. Our dream is to become a girl group that’s like your next door unni or nuna.”

Although they’ve yet to formally make their debut on music programs, it seems the girls are preparing intensively for it, as they’ve recently released footage from what looks to be their rehearsal room. Choreography looks to be kept at a minimum for now, but they certainly have interesting vocals to make up for it. The accompanying interview includes a brief introduction and rehashes a lot of the information they already revealed in their interview with No Cut News.
