Fans of After School‘s UEE were in for a shock when they watched September 13th’s episode of tvN‘s “Birdie Buddy“!
The show aired a bath scene with UEE in a natural spring. The storyline was that golf master ‘Yoon Gwang Baek‘ (played by Robert Holley) put ‘Sung Mi Soo‘ (played by Uee) through a hellish training routine. Because of this, ‘Mi Soo’ didn’t have time to wash off the paint and ended up taking a bath in the valley.
The filming took place at a valley in Young Wol during the winter, and despite the cold weather, UEE was said to have enthusiastically jumped into the water to help bring a good shot.
Fans marvelled over UEE’s smooth shoulders and healthy beauty, as they remarked, “This is what I call true beauty“, “I like rounded shoulders more than jutting collarbones“, and “She looks so cold“.
5 July:
A few days back, it was announced that UEE’s drama would be postponed again, but an official of ‘Birdie Buddy‘ confirmed that it’s been picked up by tvN and will start broadcasting in August.
On July 5th, a tvN official stated, “It has been confirmed that ‘Birdie Buddy’ will be broadcast at 11 PM on Mondays and Tuesdays after ‘I Need Romance‘ ends… The first episode will air early August.”
Filming for the drama has been completed, and while the producers originally wanted to release 20 episodes 70 minutes long, they decided to release 24 episodes spanning 45 minutes each.
‘Birdie Buddy’ was produced by the same publishing group, Eight, who also produced the hit dramas ‘Boys Over Flowers‘ and ‘Playful Kiss‘.
UEE will be seen acting alongside Lee Yong Woo, Yoon Yoo Sun, and Lee Byung Jun in a story about the competition and growth of golfers.

After School’s UEE was scheduled to make her first lead role appearance in the drama, ‘Birdie Buddy‘. However, the broadcast of the much maligned show was postponed.
The drama’s publishing group, Group Eight, recently stated, “‘Birdie Buddy’ is currently having some organizational issues; therefore, the drama will be postponed. Because of this, UEE is paying for it…It’s too bad that her acting was cut out, especially as it was so excellent that it surprised the producers.”
While UEE has acted in dramas before, this will be her first lead role appearance. In addition, ‘Birdie Buddy’ is a drama set around the topic of golf.
Because of these two factors, the drama has been garnering much interest. However, as MBC has been facing one-sided conflicts, the drama has been temporarily postponed.
Since the news of the postponement, anti-fans have flared up and turned against UEE. They began to point their fingers in UEE’s direction, blaming the drama’s postponement on UEE’s casting.
In response, the same representative stated, “Although the final contract has not been drawn, it is true that it will ideally be broadcast in August…We want to broadcast it as soon as possible so that UEE, the other actors, and the producers can gain the recognition they deserve for their hard work.”
29 June:
Cable channel tvN previously announced that they had picked up After School’s UEE’s golf drama, ‘Birdie Buddy‘. Unfortunately, they may not be airing it after all.
On June 28th, the productions staff for the drama said, “We are discussing over everything optimistically but it has not been confirmed 100%. We are open to all possibilities at the moment.”
Until now, the makers scheduled for an August release date on tvN. The contract covered many details, which is why it was true that the whole deal had been thoroughly and positively planned. Unfortunately, they have reached some difficulties with the final signings because of the way cable scheduling works.
The production staff said, “When we were contracting with UEE, we promised a major network. We need to figure it out with UEE’s company. This is not a big problem so we think it won’t cause a huge damage on the final contract.”
The drama already has faced a lot of hardship, so this is definitely another hurdle to jump over.
16 June:
After School’s UEE seems to have finally shed her ‘curse’. Her golf-themed drama, “Birdie Buddy“, was recently picked up by cable channel tvN after being left on the back-burner for months.
Since UEE was also cast in the upcoming KBS drama, “Golden Pond“, it looks like the summer is certainly picking up for the star. ”Birdie Buddy” had been the source of much trouble for her throughout the year, so both fans and industry representatives are relieved to hear the positive news.
A representative of “Birdie Buddy” confirmed, “Everyone made it seem like it was UEE’s fault that the drama couldn’t be picked up by a network, so we were all very upset. It reached a point where people even started calling it ‘the curse of UEE’. Now that it’s been picked up, I’m sure UEE will be able to shed one less weight off of her shoulders.”
He continued, “Because of contracts and other issues, the drama had to air within the year. Our goal was to air it in the summer, so although we’re a year behind, we’re glad that it’ll still be greeting viewers.”
“Birdie Buddy” will begin airing through tvN in mid-August.
18 Maret: Having revealed still cuts yesterday, Group 8 has finally unveiled the teaser for its golf drama series, “Birdie Buddy“, through YouTube on March 18th.
The drama is headlined by After School’s UEE, but it also stars Lee Yong Woo, Oh Hyun Kyung, Jin Ji Hee, and Yoo In Na, amongst many others.
The producers of the drama stated, “For the past year in production, both producers and cast members alike have worked without end to make sure that the drama is as perfect as it can be.”
The drama began filming back in March of 2010 and centers around a country girl, ‘Sung Misu’, who hopes to become a pro golfer despite her difficult financial environment. UEE revealed, “Being the lead role was pressuring, but I worked harder than anyone else in order to become closer with ‘Sung Misu.’ For the past year, I’ve lived life not as UEE, but as ‘Sung Misu.’”
She continued with tears in her eyes, “All there is left is to meet the viewers now.”
Although the series had wrapped up production in 2010, it has yet to be picked up by a broadcast company. But Group 8 remains hopeful – they’re confident that this YouTube release will help spark interest in the series, and perhaps allow it to find its way to the small screens within the year.
