I am a Singer

18 July:

On July 17th, singers Kim Jo HanPark Jung Hyun, and Yoon Do Hyun made a surprise collaboration performance on MBC’s ‘I Am a Singer’!
The trio covered “Desperado“, a 1973 hit from legendary rock band, The Eagles
Although it wasn’t a song used for the actual competition, viewers were still delighted to hear the amazing cover the three managed to bring out together.
Viewers thought that Kim Jo Han and Park Jung Hyun’s R&B style fit well with Yoon Do Hyun’s deeper voice. Many left comments like, “I think we were able to enjoy the music more for what it is without all of the tension that comes with the competition”, and “The collaboration doesn’t seem like it would work at first, but it was one of the best stages with the best harmonies.”

12 July:

Fierce competition amongst outstanding artists results in new musical challenges. On the July 10th episode of MBC’s “I Am a Singer“, Jo Kwan WooOck Ju HyunPark Jung HyunYoon Do Hyun,Kim Bum SooKim Jo Han, and Jang Hye Jin gave emotionally moving performances while making shocking transformations.
The first to perform was Jo Kwan Woo, who sang Kim Soo Hee’s “Southbound Train“. He stated, “I re-arranged the song to better express the original lyrics“. His arrangement was so unique that the song didn’t sound like “Southbound Train” at all.
Following Jo Kwan Woo was Ock Ju Hyun, who sang a cover of fellow Fin.K.L member Lee Hyori’s “U Go Girl“. As a former popstar who later began her career as a musical actress, Ock Ju Hyun gave a diverse and splendid performance of “U Go Girl”. She said, “I had the most difficulty preparing for this song than for any other songs I sang in this competition thus far. I plan to sing with all that I have today.
Park Jung Hyun sang Park Mi Kyung’s “Eve’s Warning“, while Yoon Do Hyun covered Lee Moon Sae’s “In the Rain“; Kim Bum Soo sang CNBLUE’s “I Am a Loner“, and Jang Hye Jin provided an interesting cover of KARA’s “Mister“. The newly-added Kim Jo Han sang Shin Seung Hoon’s “I Believe” and had everyone praising his abilities as “Truly Kim Jo Han“.
The July 10th episode revealed the show’s most intense competition between the singers so far. Ultimately however, there could only be one winner, and that person was newcomer Kim Jo Han.
After coming in 1st place with 17.8% of the votes, he smiled as he said, “I feel so good. I felt like I was able to communicate through music. I’m very thankful.
Meanwhile, Jang Hye Jin came in last place, despite her shocking transformation into a rocker for “Mister”. Prior to her performance, she said, “I want to be called Crazy Jang Hye Jin“; after ranking in 7th place, she said, “Since there is still the next contest, I will come back after I make more effort.
On this day’s primary 4th round competition, the rankings were as follows: Kim Jo Han, Park Jung Hyun, Kim Bum Soo, Yoon Do Hyun, Jo Kwan Woo, Ock Joo Hyun, and Jang Hye Jin.

5 July:

The singers of MBC’s ‘I Am A Singer‘ put on a shocking and unexpected show.
On the night of July 4th at 8 p.m., filming for the 1st stage of the 4th round was held at the MBC Dream Center. The filming was initially set for 7 p.m., but because the stage wasn’t built completely, the arranged filming time was postponed another hour.
However, the audience in attendance didn’t show even the slightest bit of discontent from having to wait. People from various age groups, from their teens to their 50s, were all showing the same look of anticipation and nervousness as they waited for the show to begin.
For this filming, Kim Bum SooPark Jung HyunOck Joo HyunYoon Do HyunJang Hye JinJo Gwan Woo, and the newly added Kim Jo Han competed with the theme for the episode being, ‘A Song That I Want To Challenge Myself With On Stage‘.

Kim Bum Soo decided on CNBLUE’s “Loner“, Park Jung Hyun on Park Mi Kyung’s “Eve’s Warning“, Ock Joo Hyun on Lee Hyori’s “U Go Girl“, Yoon Do Hyun on Lee Moon Sae’s “Inside the Rain“, Jang Hye Jin on KARA’s “Mister“, Jo Kwan Woo on Kim Soo Hwee’s “Southbound Train“, and lastly Kim Jo Han decided on Shin Seung Hun’s “I Believe“.
While the song selections across the board came across as unique and shocking, the actual performances exceeded the audience’s expectations as versatility was greatly manifested. As soon as all 7 singers completed their songs, the audience’s faces were all filled with excitement and satisfaction.
Fans will be able to tune into this night’s filming on July 10th.

22 June:

MBC recently announced that they will be broadcasting a special, 155-minute long episode of “I Am A Singer” come July 3rd.
According to MBC producers on June 22nd, MBC’s “New Recruits” will air their last episode on July 26th, but because its replacement show, “Home Dream”, will only begin broadcasting on July 10th, MBC decided to fill in the empty time slot on the 3rd with a special episode of “I Am A Singer”.
With the special episode of “I Am A Singer” to air at the same time as KBS 2TV’s hit program, “1 Night 2 Days”, many have begun to wonder which show will take the top spot in the best viewer ratings.

“I Am A Singer” previously battled it out against top show “Qualification of Men” and managed to beat them in viewership ratings.
Rumor has it that the two shows may actually end up being broadcast in the same time slot from July 10th forward, as it was reported that the producers of “I Am A Singer” are prepared to adjust the time slot for the show according to how the viewer ratings turn out for the episode on July 3rd.

17 June:

Shin Jung Soo PD of MBC TV ‘I Am A Singer’, revealed that he is looking to bring on hip-hop artists onto the show to broaden the scope of music on his program.
During a press conference on June 15th, Shin Jung Soo PD stated, “I want to deal with the genre of hip-hop on ‘I Am A Singer’. But I’m worried about losing fairness to the competition if a rapper was to be brought onto stage, because the standard is not specific for now”.
When Lee Sora performed “Fists of Tears”, people questioned the fairness of the competition because the song was split into two parts, where Lee Sora sang the vocals and Soul Dive took the rapping.
Shin PD spoke, “there are a number of amazing hip-hop artists such as LeessangDynamic Duo, and Tiger JK. My hope is that they could come on stage and share the genre of hip-hop”.
He praised Tasha (T), adding that, “Yoon Mirae [also known as T or Tasha] is an artist that has perfected both vocals and rapping. Yoon Mirae is one of the best in all of Asia”, and continued “her presence on the show has been requested”.
Regarding a question about the standard of selection for the program, Shin PD explained that, “Much consideration goes to the genre of the artist. All 7 musicians cannot be based on rock or jazz, so some musicians are held back due to that issue”.

13 June:
JK Kim Dong Wook is leaving MBC’s “I Am A Singer“.

The singer made the decision to leave the show after having a lengthy discussion with the production team. On June 10th, a program staff stated, “I think JK Kim Dong Wook felt a lot of pressure from the overwhelming interest and reaction ‘I Am A Singer’ received. After negotiating with the production team, he made the decision to drop out of the program.
JK Kim Dong Wook only joined the program last month and was recently swept into a controversy by having performed his song twice during filming on the 6th. Although he was given a penalty for having received one more opportunity to sing, he and Ock Ju Hyun were criticized by many of the viewers.
Because the controversy got too big, the production team was going to reveal the behind-the-scenes action during the June 12th’s broadcast. However, the broadcast is expected to be JK Kim Dong Wook’s last as he is now dropping out of the program.
A representative for the singer stated, “We have nothing to say to you for now. You’ll know when you see the broadcast.
As a result of JK Kim Dong Wook’s decision, two people will be eliminated on the 12th’s broadcast.

30 Mei:

On May 29th, fans of hip hop rejoiced over Lee Sora’s collaboration with Soul Dive on MBC’s “I Am a Singer“, as it was the first time in the show’s prestigious history that hip hop music was performed.
Immediately after the broadcast, underground trio Soul Dive ranked first on numerous search portals for their impressive performance with Lee Sora.  Working alongside DJ Juice, they covered a re-arrangement of Soul Dive’s recent hit with Im Jae Bum, “The Fist Cries“.
Viewers are hailing this stage as the biggest transformation any artist on the show has undertaken, and are praising Lee Sora for daring to step out of the box.
Soul Dive commented, “It was an honor for us to even be able to perform with one of our greatest seniors. We took part in her stage with passion, and we’re sure that this will be a memory we will never forget. We’d also like to express our gratitude towards senior Im Jae Bum.”
Viewers weren’t the only ones who praised Soul Dive, as respected hip hop artists like Eluphant’sMinos tweeted, “Jealous of their collaboration! Please watch today’s ‘I Am a Singer.’ Their stage will make your soul stop in your tracks and send applause and support.”
Jerry.k of Loquence tweeted, “Soul Dive performed on ‘I Am a Singer.’ Since the show is limited to singers, I think this performance exhibits two very realistic sides of the current state of the industry, in that although rappers were able to break through to their territory, it is still only as a ‘with’ featuring, which is a limitation to our abilities.”

On May 29th, Ock Ju Hyun performed for the first time on MBC’s “I Am a Singer” alongside JK Kim Dong Wook.
Just before the broadcast, she revealed the unfortunate obstacles she was forced to overcome because of her controversial addition the show. As reported previously, anti-fans fussed over whether this veteran idol was good enough to perform on “a show of such stature.”
Ock began, “Every time my name headlined, my mom would call me and ask me to rethink my decision. I’ve been promoting as a musical actress all along, which I thought was a different world compared to broadcast TV. I was thinking about returning to sing, and at that moment, I received a casting offer.”
She continued, “I do feel pressured by the talents of my co-stars, but that doesn’t mean it’s because I’m an idol… I want to become a good example for other idols who are racing towards their dreams.”
Speaking on the topic of antis, “I hate it when my name is on the internet. Whenever my name is used in a direction that I don’t feel comfortable with, my heart just drops. Just seeing the word ‘Ock’ makes me turn off the internet. Even though I hate reading it, however, I do come away with something.”
When asked what she will do if she was eliminated, she replied, “I think I’ll cry, but I will console myself by saying, ‘You knew it would happen.’”
Contrary to her expectations, however, Ock Ju Hyun managed to come away by placing first for her performance of “For A Thousand Days.”

Im Jae Bum teared up himself, and by the end of the performance, every single heart in the studio was moved by the stirring cover.
Commenting about his tears, Im Jae Bum said, “I don’t have any friends. I have no one to tell my very personal things to. 1 Mei:
MBC’s ‘I Am a Singer‘ will be changing it’s rules so that there will be one elimination round every 3 weeks.

Producer Shin Jung Soo met with reporters on April 29th and revealed,
After the 7 artists receive their mission song and contest to be ranked, the singer with the lowest ranking will have to make room for a new singer using a survival type convention.
Because judging legend-like vocalists based on one performance was too difficult, a change has been made to the number of performances.
According to producer Shin Jung Soo, the artists will perform twice every three weeks. Their final rankings will be a summation of their scores for both performances. Singers who place last for both performances will have to give up their spot to another singer. Rankings will continue to be based on the votes of the live audience at each performance
He continued,
Through the 3 weeks of practice and 2 harsh competitive performances, the 7 singers will be showing their perspectives on both live performances and stories. Please anticipate for there to be honest stories made through ‘I Am a Singer’.
I expect for the performances to go beyond the competition to an upgraded level in which it is more like a ‘musician’s celebration’.
“I Am a Singer” will return on the air on May 1st. Singers Lee SoraKim Bum SooLena ParkYoon Do HyunBMKLim Jae Bum, and Kim Yun Woo will be participating.

13 April:
MBC’s “I Am A Singer” will finally resume broadcasting after taking a month-long hiatus due to the various controversies surrounding the show.

In an official report made by MBC on April 13th, the network declared:
‘I Am A Singer’ will hold its next recording on the 18th, and resume broadcasting on May 1st.
The program will continue with the original format of eliminating a legendary singer from a group of seven legendary singers from the Korean music industry. In addition, we will be working to reflect the opinions of the viewers as much as possible for details regarding regulations.

The show will be returning with four of the original seven: Lee Sora, Yoon Do Hyun, Park Jung Hyun, and Kim Bum Soo. As you all know, Jung Yeob was eliminated in the last episode, and Kim Gun Mo took a voluntarily leave.
Baek Ji Young has decided to voluntarily leave the show as well due to conflicting schedules with her upcoming album production.”
Source: Star News via Nate via allkpop 2 April:Thanks to MBC’s new program, “I Am a Singer“, Korea’s been experiencing a revival of interest in their legendary artists. Though the music industry was reported to be disgruntled by this new developmentYG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk has stepped up to defend the show and everything it stands for.

Through an interview with OSEN, Yang Hyun Suk expressed:
“When I first heard that Kim Bum Soo won #1 for the first time in his career, I felt a lump in my throat. ’I Am a Singer’ is undeniably an excellent program, and the fact that music industry representatives are opposing the direction of the show is definitely news to me.
Music is like fashion in that trends come and go. Hearings news about how Kim Bum Soo was able to grab his first win demonstrates just how bias our music industry really is. To me, I’m ecstatic that talented singers like Kim Bum Soo are finally able to receive spotlight through shows like ‘I Am a Singer’.
YG itself houses idols like Big Bang and 2NE1, but I’m glad and also welcoming of the veteran singers’ return. Instead of a world dominated by idols, it’s better that a more variety of singers and a wider diversity of genres are heard in the Korean music industry.
Reflecting back on the past couple of years, the industry seems to have swayed too far to one side. When talented singers emerge, the wave of interest sways to that side. When idols gain popularity, the wave of interest sways to that side, thus leaving the others with no place to stand. It’s so fortunate that such a program allows talented singers to reinvent past hits and communicate with the public.”
When asked why he agreed to an interview specifically on the show, he answered:
“I felt that since our artists and myself have no relationship to the singers on the show, as well as the fact that YG is known for being an idol group agency with Big Bang 2NE1, it’d be easier for me to speak more transparently.
Through the show, I’ve realized once more how important it is for songs to be able to move the heart. How amazing is it that people are finally focusing on the music itself and taking an interest in it? I applaud the show’s efforts and hope that ‘I Am a Singer’ continues to advance and improve itself.”
Industry representatives are opposed to the show releasing remakes into the digital market, but this does not reflect YG Entertainment’s opinion. I myself am actually curious as to who would say such a thing like that. These singers are merely moving the hearts of viewers with their talent, why must such a situation arise? It’s truly upsetting.

1 April: Despite the many controversies the show is embroiled in, MBC’s “I Am a Singer” is a force to be reckoned with on the music charts. Decades-old hits began creeping back into the charts when the show first aired, and now they’re just about dominating every position imaginable.

This public recognition of veteran talent is long overdue, but music producers aren’t at all happy, and are even making claims that the show is “killing the music industry”.
But why?
On March 31st, one producer (who asked to remain anonymous) stated, “Digital songs from ‘I Am A Singer’ are dominating the live music charts. All comebacks and promotions for new tracks are being buried underneath these old songs on the charts.”
“I, too, understand the importance of spotlighting talented artists and bringing back hit tracks from the past, but if ‘I Am a Singer’ continues to distribute the songs digitally for profit, it will put the industry in crisis.”
Another industry representative also spoke up on the matter, beginning with an acknowledgement of the positives. “In an industry that’s so heavily concentrated on dance and idol music, it’s encouraging that ‘I Am a Singer’ is promoting a sense of change. Such talented artists are only known by few these days. Introducing hit tracks from the past and giving spotlight to deserving and talented artists to better introduce them to the mainstream industry is a fantastic deed.”
“However,” he continued, “It’s different when the broadcast company is taking a large portion of the profit made from those digital sales. I hope that a program with such good intentions won’t become tainted.”
Viewers and netizens have also been keeping close tabs on the phenomenon, with many criticizing idol group producers for “whining” about their positions on the charts now that talent has emerged.
Netizens raged, “Idol groups used to dominate the charts, and now that they can’t, these producers are all rushing to do whatever it takes to get money in their pockets” and “I don’t understand why these producers are complaining now when they’re the ones that ruined the industry by forcing the monotony of their idol groups onto it.”
Other netizens retorted, “Whether it’s an idol or a talented artist, it is a bit severe that everyone is being pushed off the charts because of this show” and “The show should re-invest the money that’s being made from the shows into public interest or in improving the music industry.”
On the income distribution for the songs, MBC explained, “60% of the profit goes to the distributor and copyright holder. 10% of the remaining 40% is split into donations for the improvement of the music industry. Whatever’s left is divided 5:5 amongst the singers and us.”
KMP Holdings, a music and broadcasting organization that SM, JYP, and YG Entertainment are all a part of, will be holding a meeting at 5 PM KST on March 31st to come up with a statement against MBC releasing “I Am A Singer” covers into digital songs.

30 Maret:After each mission on MBC’s hit program I Am A Singer, the mission tracks were released on music portal sites and have received explosive attention as the songs have all reached a high position on the music charts. Notably, the winners for the last two missions, Yoon Do Hyun and Kim Bum Soo, had all-kill’s with“I Will Always For You” and “Please”.

This is an incredible feat that most veteran singers couldn’t achieve.
With such popularity, a representative from the music industry revealed, “They most likely profited around 100,000,000 WON (around $100,000USD) in a single day from the digital sales alone.”
Currently the plan is to donate the profit from the sales to make improvements in the Korean music industry.

Baek Ji Young is receiving praise for her professionalism.

The March 27th episode of MBC’s “I Am A Singer” revealed that Baek Ji Young was suffering from cold symptoms before her rehearsal. But Baek Ji Young didn’t want to pull out prematurely, so she received an IV treatment.
However, her condition worsened and Baek Ji Young was forced to stop her rehearsal. As she was exiting the stage, Baek Ji Young burst into tears.
The other participating singers tried to cheer her up. Baek Ji Young stated, “I wasn’t that nervous, but everything in my mind became blank. It felt like it was the first time I heard this song.”
Luckily, Baek Ji Young recovered enough to deliver a powerful performance later that absolutely shocked fans. Viewers praised her professionalism by stating, “This is Baek Ji Young” “She is so awesome.”

Fans of the popular MBC reality show, “I Am a Singer“, are disappointed by the continued non-appearance of contestant Kim Yeon Woo.
According to the schedule, Kim Yeon Woo was supposed to appear on last week’s broadcast of “I Am a Singer.” However, because Kim Gun Mo received the opportunity to compete again, Kim Yeon Woo was unable to appear.
So what about this week’s broadcast? A special three hour episode prevented the star from being able to participate this week as well.
Amidst the swirling controversy surrounding the show, many are expressing hopes to that things will return to normal quickly, so that they could continue enjoying the interesting program.

After several controversies with the public, MBC’s I Am A Singer aired its fourth episode today and surprised many viewers.
The show first started off with an on-screen apology that stated, “We are very sorry for worrying our viewers and because we were unable to keep our promise. We will return with a better stage by listening to your concerns and opinions.”
Due to the several problems that the show had faced the past week, it has been decided that the program would be discontinued for about a month to resolve issues. A special three hour episode, lasting 165 minutes, was thus aired to not disappoint viewers.
With an extended time frame, the show was able to fit the beginning of the next mission to the very end, revealing the next disqualified singer. The mission had the seven contestants perform each others hit songs, which made them much more focused on their performances.
The singers were selected to perform the following songs:
Yoon Do Hyun – ‘Dash’ (originally by Baek Ji Young)
Park Jung Hyun (Lena Park) - ‘First Impression’ (orginally by Kim Gun Mo)
Kim Bum Soo – ‘Please’ (originally by Lee Sora)
Kim Gun Mo – ‘You Are My Lady’ (originally by Jung Yup)
Baek Ji Young - ‘Promise’ (originally by Kim Bum Soo)
Jung Yup - ‘Will Forget’ (originally by Yoon Do Hyun)
Lee Sora - “My Day” (originally by Park Jung Hyun)
As always, the five hundred audience members acted as the judges. The performances were mind-blowing, as many left remarks such as, “It was better than I expected,” “I was so moved that I almost cried,” and, “My heart was beating rapidly.” However, a contestant still had to be disqualified, which ended up being Jung Yup. Although he changed the style of Yoon Do Hyun’s rock song to fit his own vocal style, it was not enough for the audience, as he ended up getting the least amount of votes. Rejecting the offer for a re-challenge, Jung Yup left the show on a bright note along with his manager, Kim Shin Young. He stated, “It is an honor to be just a part of this show with such great artists.”
Viewers were also moved with this broadcast and were disappointed on its suspension, as comments were left such as:
“I couldn’t keep track of the time.”
“Can’t this program keep continuing? While watching, every issue and controversy that it had disappeared from my mind.”
“Today’s performance was really something else.”
“Professional singers can improve as well….. very surprising.”
“I could tell the emotion that the singers had when they were singing.”
“We were impatient but MBC was even more impatient.”
“Although its already decided, can’t Kim Young Hee PD come back?”
“I can’t believe this show won’t be airing next week.”
The replacement for the producer will be Shin Jung Soo, who is also the PD for ‘Come To Play’. Let’s hope the variety show will return to the public in a brighter note.

26 Maret:
Last week’s broadcast of MBC’s I Am A Singer revealed that Kim Gun Mo, the contestant who came in last place, would be given a chance to compete again in request of the other contestants. The show has since been in the midst of controversy, leading to the producer getting fired and rumors of the show being canceled.

Veteran trot singer and head of the Korean Singers Association, Tae Jin Ah, recently revealed his disappointment on the rapid controversy of the new variety show.
He stated, “This morning when I was leaving my house, I saw an article that was related to the cancellation rumors. At this rate, I’m worried that it will actually be canceled.  When I was watching this variety show, I felt that this is the program that we were all waiting for. Although, I would like something where the singers would enjoy singing instead of worrying over their ranking.”
Currently, Kim Gun Mo has decided to voluntarily leave the show due to the controversy.

24 Maret: Veteran singer Kim Gun Mo, a contestant on MBC’s “I Am a Singer,” has announced that he will be voluntarily leaving the show.

On March 23rd, he stated, “I shouldn’t have accepted the opportunity to compete again despite my disqualification; I’m extremely apologetic towards the viewers and the audience judges.”
When asked why he accepted the second chance, he revealed, “They said that the opportunity would be given equally to the other singers as well, and I thought it was right at the time. I was hesitant, but I don’t regret that I took up the opportunity. If I had just gone home after I was disqualified, I don’t think I would have changed.” In the two weeks he spent training for the second chance, he shared that the experience became a turning point in his life.
Unfortunately, now that his second chance is embroiled in a controversy that eventually led to PD Kim Young Hee being removed from the show, he can’t help but feel upset. ”I don’t feel well knowing that such a result came about because of my opportunity. The person who gave me that chance isn’t on the show anymore, so what reason do I have to continue appearing on it? My decision to leave is my duty.”

MBC’s ‘I Am A Singer’ PD, Kim Young Heehad been fired due to bending the rules during an elimination round.
With this, singers from MBC’s ‘I Am A Singer’ passed on their opinions to MBC regarding producer Kim Young Hee’s abrupt replacement that it was too harsh. With this, they requested the return of Kim Young Hee PD as well.
The managers of the singers that star in ‘I Am A Singer’ met urgently on the afternoon of the 23rd, and asked for each other’s opinions.
One manager of a singer revealed to Star News after the meeting, “Most of the singers’ opinions are that this replacement of Kim Young Hee PD was severe indeed. After the meeting of the managers, we met up with MBC’s entertainment chief director and deputy director, and officially requested the return of producer Kim Young Hee.
This manager proceeded to add, “[In response] to our request, MBC showed the opinion that since it was an already decided issue, the return of Kim Young Hee PD was difficult, and said that they would soon find the best solution for this. In today’s meeting with MBC, we only talked up to that point.
The decision of the appearance of top stars such as Kim Gun MoLee So RaYoon Do HyunPark Jung HyunBaek Ji YoungKim Bum Soo, and Jung Yeop in ‘I Am A Singer’ was largely affected by Kim Young Hee PD, who is a veteran producer with 25 years of experience. With this, the news of replacing Kim Young Hee had come as a sorry shock for these singers, and the singers had an emergency meeting to send their opinion of Kim Young Hee returning to MBC.
This morning, MBC had revealed that they were replacing Kim Young Hee PD for his failure to keep basic principles, stating, “Even if at the filming site, an unforeseen situation had occurred and the cast and staff had cooperated and changed the rules, the elimination of 7th place was a promise with viewers.
‘I Am A Singer’ was previously surrounded in controversy after Kim Gun Mo who came in last place on the 20th, was not cut but given a chance to have a re-challenge.

MBC has decided to replace their producer for the new variety show, ‘I Am A Singer’.
The sacking came about after producer Kim Young Hee made a controversial decision to allow the contestant who landed in seventh place to compete once again. Netizens and viewers alike were furious, as the original rules clearly stated that the singer who landed in last place would immediately be disqualified.
Since the show enjoys a high popularity and viewer rating, MBC quickly acted on the backlash and revealed that they would be replacing the PD.
MBC stated, “We will be replacing the producer of ‘I Am A Singer’, Kim Young Hee. Although the rules for the show were changed due to a serious situation during recording, disqualifying the singer in last place was a promise to viewers.”
It has not yet been stated if the modified settings will be kept for the future, or if the show will go back to its original rules.

10 Maret:
Earlier this week, MBC unleashed its newest singer survival program, “I am a Singer“, which kicked off to an explosive start.

The program pits a total of seven big name singers (including Kim Gun Mo, Kim Bum Soo, Park Jung Hyun, Baek Ji Young, Yoon Do Hyun, Lee Sora, and Jung Yeob) against each other in a battle of vocal talent. For each episode, the singers are ranked according to a specific mission, and one singer is eliminated with votes from a 500-member audience.
The first episode surveyed the level of viewers’ interest each singer received based on performances of their own hit tracks. Park Jung Hyun came out on top with 22%, while Jung Yeob placed last.
Viewers were especially ecstatic with the way the program exhibited the artists’ true passion for music, leaving comments like, “It’s an amazing program, you can tell that the singers are all doing the best they possibly can.  Truly an honor to watch the show,” and “Throughout the show, my ears had a blast listening to the talent, and my heart was racing with anticipation.”
Moments after the broadcast, the songs that were performed on the show began sweeping back into the music charts, with some tracks ranking at the top.
Unfortunately, because it was recorded in front of a live audience, the producers are struggling with spoilers leaking information about the missions and the eliminated. The controversy later developed into accusations about how the program was distorting results.  One news agency alleged that singer ‘A’ was eliminated, but requested to re-record the episode because they questioned the standards of judgment.
Lee Jin Sook, MBC’s promotional director, spoke with Daily Sports on March 10th and explained, “I met with PD Kim Young Hee yesterday and discussed various things.  We’re all surprised at the reports claiming that we fabricate the content of our program, but that is absolutely ridiculous.  We would be putting everything MBC stands for at stake if it were true. We feel that this controversy only came about because of the explosive response ‘I am a Singer’ has been receiving since its first broadcast.”
PD Kim Young Hee added, “I feel that the controversy isn’t even worth commenting on.  It’s preposterous.”
The second episode will officially begin missions with the risk of elimination, as each singer will be given a specific ‘mission song’ that they must perfect and perform in order to be judged by the audience.
