YG Family 15th Anniversary

9 January:

Celebrating their 15th anniversary, YG Entertainment continues to see enormous success with their‘YG Family Concerts’, the latest concert in Osaka, Japan, drawing 80,000 fans to a one-of-a-kind concert featuring some of the biggest names in K-Pop.
With artists such as Big Bang2NE1Se7en, GummyTabloPSYand Jinusean, YG artists celebrated for two straight days at the Osaka Kyocera Dome on the 7th and 8th of January.
2NE1 kicked off the energetic night with their debut track, “FIRE“, and Big Bang took to the stage soon after, drawing immense cheer from the crowd.
Se7en continued the festivities, and sang the Japanese versions of his songs “Better Together” and “Somebody Else“, the title track for his Japanese mini-album, which is scheduled for release on the 18th.
As recent inductees to the YG Family, Tablo and PSY also provided solid performances, and PSY‘s trademark wit was in full effect as he dressed up as “Lady Psy Psy” and “Psyonce“, parodying the popular American artists.
Next came Gummy, on the heels of her first Japanese album, and Jinusean followed soon after with “Phone Number” and “A-YO“.
As for special stages, Big Bang‘s Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri collaborated with Se7en to perform2NE1‘s “Lonely” and “It Hurts“, and Gummy, Taeyang, and Park Bom made a special appearance on Tablo’s stage.
Altogether, 41 songs were performed at the YG Family Concert, and the energy never let up during the entire three-and-a-half hour long concert.
YG Entertainment is scheduled to take their family concert to the Saitama Super Arena on January 21st and 22nd.

4 December:

On December 4th, YG Entertainment rocked the Seoul Olympic Park Stadium for the second consecutive night with their ‘YG Family Concert’.
On top of performances of their released tracks, Big Bang and 2NE1 delighted fans with special never-before-seen stages. In particular, the five-man quintet surprised everyone in the stadium with a cover of hit track I Am The Best, transforming 2NE1′s track into a masculine performance with just as much “oomph” as the original.
T.O.P.G-DragonSeungri, and Daesung took the parts of Park BomCLSandara Park, and Minzy respectively, and were aided by the girls’ backdancers.

3 December:

Big Bang‘s T.O.P. is notorious for being a sub-par dancer but it seems he’s vastly improving in that department.
On December 3rd, YG Entertainment held the ‘15th Anniversary YG Family Concert‘ at the Olympic Gymnastic Arena in Seoul. In the middle of the concert, Big Bang’s T.O.P. was caught via fancam having an impromptu dance battle with PSY.
T.O.P. showed off amazing footwork and fellow member Taeyang should watch out for T.O.P. and his smooth moves.
YG Entertainment will hold a second concert on December 4th and then move the concert to Japan next month.

2 December:
YG Entertainment‘s newest generation of artists, Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Eun Bi, will not be taking part in the upcoming YG Family concert this year.

Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Eun Bi were participants in last year’s ‘Superstar K2‘ and were recognized for their potential after placing in fourth and sixth place, respectively. They later signed with YG Entertainment and began training under the prestigious label.
Kim Eun Bi in particular has been gaining a lot of attention after news got out that she will be debuting in YG’s upcoming girl group. Similarly, Kang Seung Yoon is becoming a rising star after he started acting in MBC‘s popular sitcom, ‘High Kick 3‘.
Despite their contract with YG Entertainment, Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Eun Bi have yet to release any official albums. Fans were expecting to see the two rookies at the concert, however, because of their prior experience on ‘Superstar K2′.
YG Entertainment has announced that they’ve decided to postpone Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Eun Bi’s live performance. On December 2nd, a YG representative revealed, “Kang Seung Yoon and Kim Eun Bi have trained so hard that they would not have a problem standing on stage at this very moment. However, because they have not yet made an official debut, we have decided to postpone their participation in the YG Family concert to another time.”
He continued, “Kang Seung Yoon is currently busy filming for ‘High Kick 3′, and Kim Eun Bi is preparing for her girl group debut sometime next year.”
An earlier announcement revealed that Big Bang would reunite on stage for this concert, as bothDaesung and G-Dragon have confirmed their participation.

It’s been confirmed that Big Bang‘s leader, G-Dragon, will perform at the upcoming YG Familyconcert!
According to concert representatives on December 2nd, G-Dragon showed up in the early morning for rehearsal and successfully completed his preparations.
The announcement finally put to rest fans’ anxieties about the concert, as YG Entertainment had been mum about G-Dragon’s appearance due to an unpleasant controversy. In fact, reports are saying that YG seriously debated on the idea of G-Dragon’s participation until very recently.
However, since the YG Family concert is an event where all YG artists come together to successfully wrap up the year, the agency decided to let G-Dragon perform so that he could repay and thank his supportive fans.
G-Dragon’s participation was further backed up by the fact that this year is the ‘15th Anniversary YG Family Concert‘, which will be attended by over 200,000 people from both Korea and Japan. In light of such facts, it seemed unrealistic to leave out one of YG’s top stars from such a big company event.
Now that G-Dragon and Daesung‘s have been confirmed in the YG Family concert line-up, the concert will carry a bigger significance for those fans who’ve been waiting for months to see all five members perform together again. With the exception of Big Bang’s appearance at the ‘2011 MTV EMA‘ show for their ‘Best Worldwide Act’ win, this will be Big Bang’s first time appearing as a complete group.
Get ready VIPs, because GD is back!

YGEX

22 July:

In light of recent events, Big Bang’s Daesung was absent during YG Entertainment’s recent Japanese advancement ceremony.
On July 21st, YG Entertainment and avex came together at Odaiba’s Hotel Nikko to commemorate their new brand, ‘YGEX‘. Among the YG artists, those who attended included Se7enGummyBig Bang (sans Daesung), and 2NE1. At the launching ceremony, the YG artists had the opportunity to spend time with the Japanese press and officials.
During the event, CEO Yang Hyun Suk stated, “Daesung could not attend today. This year, he will be careful and will also show patience. He is very disappointed in himself and feels very apologetic to the other members. Therefore, Big Bang will not be promoting anything more this year. All the members will wait until [Daesung] returns. In any case, the situation has disappointed and upset fans. Thus, Daesung will dream of a new hope while reflecting [during the rest of this year].”
He added, “Instead, the other members who have solo or unit activities will continue those as planned. Starting in September, the members’ personal activities will unfold simultaneously. Although there won’t be a unified Big Bang, the individual characteristics of the members in their solo activities will hopefully soothe the disappointment of the fans.”
While it’s really unfortunate that Big Bang may not be able to make a comeback as a group this year, we hope that Daesung will take this time to reflect and grow from his painful experience. Meanwhile, stay tuned as we bring you updates on solo and unit activities within Big Bang.

21 July:
On July 21st, YG Entertainment and avex announced the establishment of their new collaboration label, ‘YGEX‘, through a press conference at a hotel in Odaiba, Tokyo.

The event was attended by Yang Hyun Suk, YG artists, and avex’s Mastuura Masato, as well as 600 different reporters from major Japanese outlets like NHK and Yomiuri News.
Yang Hyun Suk expressed, “YG Entertainment is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.  We’ve set up an agency named YGEX with our great partner, avex, and this will mark the start of our Japanese advancement. Not only will 2NE1 be debuting in Japan in September, but all future debuts under YG will debut both in Korea and Japan at the same time through YGEX.  YG, like it has always done, will be actively producing albums through YGEX.”
He continued, “When YG artists advance into Japan, we will not be matching our style to the Japanese style, but rather presenting a music that echoes YG itself. avex expressed that they like and understand YG’s music, so in the future, all music will be released in Japan through YGEX.”
Mastuura added, “I’m glad to be able to present this new project with YG.  I’ve felt a lot of things through my various meetings with Yang Hyun Suk, and I’m happy to be able to work with him.”

2NE1’s CL said, “We’ll be starting our Japanese promotions soon, so we’re glad to be working with seniors who have already advanced.”  Dara added, “I’ve become the communications director for 2NE1 a while ago, so I’ll be working as the cutie Director Park in Japan.  This is my our first time revealing this tidbit of information, but YG Family will be holding our 15th anniversary concert in both Korea and Japan this year.”
Big Bang’G-Dragon said, “I’m glad that we’re all able to work together through YGEX.  Big Bang has been working as solos, units, and as a group this past year, and through YGEX, we will be working in Japan in the same manner.  It hasn’t been decided yet who will come out first, but the person who has the best final results will be promoting in Japan first.”
T.O.P. expressed, “YG Family is dependable, so I’m glad to be working with them.” Maknae Seungristated, “I don’t think there’s an idol who has a style like Big Bang’s in Japan.  The members of Big Bang will be working as both solos and units in Japan.”
