On September 28th, KARA‘s Park Gyuri celebrated Shindong‘s birthday with a sweet cake and a message! The two are co-DJs on popular radio program, ’Shimshimtapa‘.
Gyuri had tweeted, “Shindong oppa’s birthday is today, September 28th! Happy birthday, Dongie oppa! Everyone, please wish him a happy birthday!”
The Super Junior member replied, “Gyuri was the very first person to wish me a happy birthday! She’s definitely an amazing woman.”
The ‘Shimshimtapa’ official Twitter shared a picture of the two posing before Gyuri’s birthday cake. Shindong celebrated Gyuri’s birthday back in May by giving her a watch made out of Legos, so netizens were happy to see Gyuri return the kind gesture with a cake.
Netizens commented, “I can feel Gyuri’s feelings in her words”, “First person to congratulate him! Wow!”, and “I can really sense their close friendship.”

Seungyeon stated, “We’re finally releasing our third album in Korea. Compared to our other albums, this is an especially important one that we all feel more affectionate towards. We participated in the recording, choreography, music video, and style concepts. It will only be for a short while, but we want to show our best.”
The members continued, “Ever since our debut, people asked what our differentiating factor was, and we always said that it was our friendliness. This time, we want to go with something unique and professional. We hope that if we do our best on stage, it will become the best stage for our fans as well.”
When asked about their controversy earlier this year, they replied, “It’s an album that contains our feelings for our fans. We’ll work to improve and show our teamwork.”
Concluding the showcase, they stated, “Whether in Korea or Japan, we’re just happy to be able to receive such love. We’re starting our Korean promotions now, but we want to be a group that receives love wherever we go. We hope to greet our fans more often in the future.”
After 10 months in Japan, the lovely ladies of KARA finally made their return with “STEP“ and Mnetrecently revealed a special behind the scenes video from the MV.
Additionally, Mnet scored an exclusive interview with KARA, to gear up for their promotions for their title song “Step”!
In the video, KARA introduces “Step” and they also give their insight to a few other tracks on their 3rd official album. Fans will be able to find an acoustic version of a previously released ballad, as well as a Korean version of one of their hit Japanese ballads.
KARA also asked fans for a favor, saying, “There isn’t a name for our dance yet, so we would like it if all of you could name it for us!”
The interview then continued with the members’ thoughts on each other’s unique charms.
Seungyeon on Gyuri:
“Wherever she is, Gyuri overflows with confidence even to the very tips of her fingers. But because she is always showing people her confident side, there are some charms that people have not been able to see. She is very feminine in contrast to her refreshing personality, and she is a person who always tries to think of ways to take care of her dongsaengs.”
Hara on Seungyeon:
“Seungyeon seems younger than her age. Even though she is very small in stature, her hard working and ambitious nature make up for it making her look bigger.”
Jiyoung on Hara:
“If you just look at her outer appearance, she’s very pretty and petite, and she’s the fantasy of many men with her long straight hair. She just seems like a very pretty feminine type. However in comparison, she has a cool personality and takes really good care of the people around her, and these things seem to make up the charm that she has. The more you look at her, more and more charms seem to emerge.”Nicole added, “She gets more fun the longer you look at her”.
Gyuri on Nicole:
“Nicole is a health beauty and loves to exercise, so she has a very pretty and toned body. She also has a big interest in food and is good at cooking. She’ll also makes us delicious cookies and muffins. So, she is someone who has a very active role within the group.”
Nicole on Jiyoung:
“Jiyoung is still the maknae of the group, but while she used to give off a child-like image before, she has been shedding that image and has becoming more mature and feminine. She is also very considerate towards the people around her. She’s like the vitamin of our group. She’s always lifting our moods and telling us stories in a fun way.”
Each member also discussed their current activities outside of KARA.
Gyuri dished about her first musical debut on ’200 Pound Beauty’, while Hara revealed her thoughts on her drama appearance on SBS’s ‘City Hunter’. Seungyeon also discussed her first role as a MC on SBS’s ‘Animal Farm’. Athletic Nicole talked about her love for pilates and explained the benefits of the popular exercise, and the maknae of the group, Ji Young, discussed her wish to go on a trip with her high school friends before graduating.
Girl group KARA just released their new single “Step“ on the 6th and, while they are blowing up the music charts, they are also receiving much attention for possible plagiarism at the same time.
KARA has just made a comeback with “Step”, and it is the first single they’ve released in nearly a year. After much debate and complications with their agency, they have finally decided to release the song and the song is bright and cheery to match the girls’ attitudes towards their new album.
Netizens are claiming, however, that the melody sounds too much like Joan Osborne‘s “One of Us“. They suspect that the producers identically copied the melody of “One of Us”. Some netizens even posted the two music videos side by side online to be compared.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time KARA has gone under fire for suspect plagiarism. Their hit track “Lupin” was also called out, however it seems like this time the controversy with “Step” will soon die off. One professional remarked, “In order for a song to be considered plagiarized, it needs to contain the same few lines of lyrics as well as the same rhythm. Granted it sounds similar, but it isn’t enough to be considered plagiarism.”
Most people agree. There were not many who were shocked or even noticed the similarties between the two songs, and some believe that this shouldn’t even be an issue. Netizens commented, “No one knows who started this, but stop trying to ruin KARA with nonsense that has no solid proof to back it up.”
Although it’s only been a few hours since KARA‘s third album, “Step“, was revealed to the public, the girls are already riding high by placing first on various online music charts.
With first-place accolades on Melon, Olleh, Bugs, and Soribada, it looks like the storied group has yet another success on their hands with their trademark “KARA-style” music. “Step” was composed byHan Jae Ho and Kim Seung Soo, the same duo behind such hits as “Mister” and “Honey“.
Meanwhile, KARA will start comeback promotions following the busy Chuseok holiday this weekend.
