7 July:

Today, it was announced that Korean girl group, 2NE1, would start releasing their three new songs on July 20th. It was also revealed that this group will make their CD debut with their new mini-album (current title unknown) on September 21st!
For their debut in Japan, the girls will gradually release various musical materials as part of their ‘countdown’. Firstly, on the 20th, 2NE1 will release their popular single, “I AM THE BEST” throughRecochoku (a Japanese music distribution site for downloading songs to cell phones or PC). Afterwards, they’ll continue to release their other songs on August 10th and August 31st, before releasing their mini-album on September 21st.
Back in March, the popular girl group was supposed to debut in Japan for the first time with their single, “Go Away”. But during their stay on the 31st floor of a hotel, the earthquake struck. Since an earthquake occurs rarely in Korea, the members were severely shocked by the event and returned to their home country. At that time, they were in no condition to return to Japan due to the fear and terror they experienced from the disaster.
However, they kept on giving encouraging words of support to their Japanese fans through the internet by stating, “We want to cheer up Japan.” The leader of the group, CL (20) expressed, “As we have experienced the same shock and terror of the earthquake, we feel close and familiar to the fans. This time, we want to make our stage in Japan a fun place.” They’ve also announced that they’ve already made plans to go to Japan. During this trip, they will appear on television programs and other activities for their debut, as originally scheduled before the earthquake.

2 July:

Blackjacks have been very surprised from a recent finding of their favorite singers – at a place where they least expected.
On July 1st, the 619th WWE Friday Night Smackdown was held at Phoenix, Arizona and as always, big wrestlers in tight pants were featured in the ring. So what exactly does this have to do with our very own girl group sensation, 2NE1?
Well, some eagle eyed fans spotted several banners of the 2NE1 members in the audience during the airing of the show. This was a literal shock as K-pop girl groups have nothing to do with wrestling and 2NE1 basically had free air time on American television.
Despite the vast differences between the two, one thing’s for sure… both entities surely know how to bring the Smackdown. For those who need more evidence, check out the video below (CL’s banner shown at 3:46, Minzy’s banner shown at 7:17 and 9:49).

Having had a successful run in the first week of promotions for their latest comeback, the girls of 2NE1recently unveiled their choreography practice for their hit title track, “I Am The Best”!
In contrast to other practice videos that are usually uploaded by idol groups, the video gets up and personal with each member during their dancing, making it a lot more interactive for the fans to watch.

Blackjacks have waited a long time for this day – after an internal delay and then another minor setback,2NE1’s “I Am The Best” music video has finally hit the internet with full force!
The quartet heated up the airwaves with the full track release earlier this week, immediately achieving an all-kill on music charts, with “#2NE1isthebest” trending on Twitter worldwide.
Directed by Seo Hyun Seung (the creative force behind “Fire”, “Try to Follow Me”, “Clap Your Hands” & “Can’t Nobody”), the MV features glammed up film sets to match the energy of the track.
Considering how “I Am The Best” features heavy-hitting beats and a party vibe that would get anyone up and moving, the MV compliments the track with eye-popping film sets and wardrobe choices that will have fans and critics talking for days.
Without further ado, here’s “I Am The Best”!

Just two days into its release, 2NE1′s comeback track, “I’m the Best“, has been certified a ‘perfect all-kill’ by Instiz!
The song swept the charts moments after its release, topping MelOn, dosirak, Bugs, Mnet, Cyworld, Soribada, and Monkey3 live. YG Entertainment’s blog, ‘YG-Life‘, took notice of the achievement and shared a screen capture of Instiz’s certification.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise though, especially considering the streak of success the girls have been showing all year with “Don’t Cry” and “Lonely“.
Congratulations!

23 June:

Blackjacks are undoubtedly disappointed with the delay in 2NE1’s “I Am The Best” music video release, but YG Entertainment has provided some eye candy for us all to enjoy while we wait! Aside from “PR Director” Dara’s teasers this past week, this is the public’s first look at the ladies in HD quality.

With veteran director Seo Hyun Seung (“Fire”, “Try to Follow Me”, “Clap Your Hands” & “Can’t Nobody”) at the helm of this MV, there should be no surprise that the film sets feature over-the-top backdrops and an eye-popping wardrobe.
Take a look and remember to stay tuned for the full MV release later at the end of this week!

It’s been a long time coming, but Korea’s fearsome foursome is finally back in action: 2NE1 has just dropped its newest single, “I Am The Best“!
Despite the brevity of the four song teasers revealed earlier this week, it was clear from the get-go that “I Am The Best” would shape up to be one of the hottest dance tracks of the summer. Previously described by producer Teddy as an electronic hip hop track reminiscent of “Fire”, “I Am The Best” will surely be climbing its way to the top of the hottest club playlists throughout Seoul and beyond.
Equipped with a heavy bass line and a catchy hook, “I Am The Best” is an infectious party track that will have fans reaching for the replay button over and over for the rest of the week. The ladies prove their worth by supplying the track with their unique vocals, from CL’s swaggtastic raps to Bom’s throaty melodies.
Anyway, enough with the talking… feast your ears below!

22 June:

In what must be disappointing news for Blackjacks everywhere, YG Entertainment has decided to delay the release of the music video for 2NE1’s comeback title, “I’m the Best“.
According to an official YG blog post, the reason behind the delay is to ensure a higher-quality video.“The problem was that we had set the bar too high,” YG said. “We spent more than twice the amount of money we had spent on previous videos, and the scale of the video grew larger than expected, which lengthened the post-production time.”
The music video will now be released two or three days later than its expected June 24th release date.

20 June:

YG Entertainment has proven itself to be the master of teasers — although the agency had previously only revealed ten seconds of 2NE1’s upcoming track “I Am The Best”, the public response has been absolutely explosive!
Yesterday, we got our first earful of the bass-pumping dance track and a taste of CL’s fierce vocals. Today, Blackjacks can enjoy an extended 20-second preview of “I Am The Best”, which reveals more of CL’s part as well as a (very brief) snippet of Minzy’s introduction. Check it out!
With three days left to go, we can expect daily song teasers introducing Dara and Bom before the full song is unleashed on June 24.

Although they’ve said that they wouldn’t promoting “Lonely“, it seems we should’ve known better. After dropping two hints through their YG-Life blog yesterday, YG Entertainment trolled us all by announcing that 2NE1 will be performing “Lonely” on SBS’s “Inkigayo“.

Through YG-Life, representatives stated, “On May 29th, 2NE1 will be performing ‘Lonely’ on broadcast only once.”
Representatives of “Inkigayo” elaborated, “Although they’ve already announced that they wouldn’t be promoting it, fans have been making endless requests and the 2NE1 members themselves wanted to stand on stage for it as well.”

17 Mei:

The expensive outfits for 2NE1’s “Lonely” music video has generated a ton of conversation recently and for good reason!

The clothes worn in their latest music video are pieces from the French brand “Balmain“, which was launched in 1945 by French designer Pierre Balmain. In 2006, Christophe Decarnin became the director, and for the past few years, Balmain has become a hot trend in the fashion world.
Musicians such as Kanye West, Madonna, Beyonce, and Rihanna have worn items from their line. Currently, Balmain is one of the most expensive high-end brands.
They have also been chosen as Big Bang and 2NE1’s favorite brands for their one-of-a-kind art-like designs and their exceptional details.
A representative said:
Not only is it expensive, but it is a designer label that rarely provides wardrobe to celebrities. Occasionally, fashionable actors receive sponsored pieces for special award ceremony-like events, but favorably, 2NE1 has been the only singers to receive sponsored pieces for the past few years.
The total cost of 2NE1’s wardrobe for their “Lonely” music video comes out to about 200 million won (~$183,800 USD), but the production costs of the music came in lower at 150 million won (~$137,800 USD). Therefore, the wardrobe for the music video actually exceeded the production costs for the music!
This type of dedication to their outfits is nothing new though, as Park Bom previously received muchattention for the $20,000 Alexander McQueen dress in her “Don’t Cry” music video.

16 Mei:

2NE1’s “Lonely” has achieved not only an ‘all-kill’ on the charts, but a ‘perfect all-kill’!
According to ranking compilation chart ‘iChart‘, 2NE1’s “Lonely” has ranked #1 on both live, daily, and weekly music charts. Not only that, but their music video has garnered over 4 million views over the course of four days and is still ranked #1 on Korean video portals like Gom TV.
Because the girls are usually known for their powerful performance style and electronic sounds, winning with “Lonely”, an analog track that relies purely on their vocals, is all that more meaningful.
Fans commented, “The song is great and the girls pulled it off well” and “There’s a great vocal balance between the members.”

14 Mei:

The ladies of 2NE1 absolutely killed it this week, thanks to their new song, “Lonely“.
After releasing the track on May 11th, 2NE1 plucked the #1 spot on the real-time music charts, and what’s more, they continued to hold it beyond the 24-hour peak period. Keep in mind, these results are based off digital music purchases from fans in Korea.
2NE1 has just announced that they’ll be releasing “Lonely” through iTunes, which means international fans get the chance to give the girls a special gift in the form of a high-ranking spot on the iTunes chart. Who knows – with enough purchases, these ladies may even get to grab their own ‘all-kill’ on iTunes!
Fans can purchase “Lonely” through the helpful little button below. Let’s see these girls “rock and make it to the top“!

10 Mei:On the morning of May 10th, YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk wrote a post on the YG-Life blogabout 2NE1’s comeback track, “Lonely.”

The post read:
“2NE1’s new song, ‘Lonely’, will be released simultaneously with its music video on the morning of May 12th. It is a slow pop song that uses string instruments.
Will.I.Am previously made a visit to the YG Entertainment building and made a few comments about ‘Lonely’: “I was waiting for the drum beats to come out but it didn’t, so that was very refreshing. I think it’ll be a big hit.”
The reason he said that it was refreshing was because the song is not what everyone is probably expecting. Departing from the worldwide trend of fast and powerful electronic songs of the house genre, 2NE1’s new song is a slow song that’s 100% analog in emotions.

In short, we did not use any auto-tune.
I think that the reason he thought it’d be a ‘hit’ was because of the ‘Lonely… Lonely.. Lonely..’ It has a repetitive melody that’s highly addictive.

‘Lonely’ was composed and written by Teddy, who’s also known for 2NE1’s previous hits, and features lyrics about the sorrows and loneliness of love.
What’s unique about it is that the lyrics are different to what you’re thinking of, in that it’s actually about a person who feels lonely even with the person they love.
Now about our broadcast promotions for ‘Lonely’…
I am so apologetic to all of our 2NE1 fans, but we are unfortunately not planning to promote ‘Lonely’ on broadcast programs. We are instead planning to promote with a song that 2NE1 can perform to.
We would like to ask for your understanding.
This week’s ‘YG ON AIR‘ will feature a live session version of Park Bom’s ‘Don’t Cry‘. Next week, fans can see a live version of ‘Lonely’, as sung by 2NE1.
As we’ve mentioned before, 2NE1’s next song will be released three weeks from now on June 2nd. 2NE1’s mini-album will be released six weeks from now on June 23rd.

After eight months, 2NE1 is finally releasing a new song titled ‘Lonely’…
I ask for your anticipation and support.”

18 April:After announcing 2NE1’s official comeback last week, the YG-Life blog has finally followed up with further information. Check it out below!

-
“On April 21st, we will be releasing Park Bom’s solo track, ‘Please Don’t Cry‘, as a digital single. The single is the work of Teddy, and features a piano and house beat, which acts as a fast-paced R&B dance track. The music video will be released on the same day.
Unfortunately, we do not have plans for Park Bom to perform her solo on broadcast, but we will be starting aggressive and assertive activities for 2NE1 until the end of August.
2NE1 will be debuting in Japan on September.
What do we mean by aggressive and assertive promotions?
Unlike how we introduced 2NE1’s triple title tracks – “Can’t Nobody“, “Go Away“, “Clap Your Hands” – during their last mini-album promotions (which ended with their follow-up, “It Hurts“) we will be releasing a new song every three weeks.
The reason we have chosen to take this route is because we are more than satisfied with the level of quality in 2NE1’s new songs, and we are intending to use all six of the album’s songs as title tracks for this promotion.
We will be starting season three of ‘2NE1 TV’ with PD Choi. We are currently looking at an air date of around the beginning of June.
Finally, 2NE1 will be holding their first ever concert at the end of August.
We have already surveyed the concert hall and feel that we will be able to run a concert with 2NE1’s representative tracks and their new six tracks.
We hope that our fans will give their support and encouragement towards 2NE1’s new music and promotions.
Thank you.
From YG”

8 April:2NE1’s new MV for “Can’t Nobody (English Version)“.

Although the MV is based off the original Korean version, there’s a few segments that definitely got revamped. For example, Dara’s first delivery of the chorus has her crawling up the stairs in a high-fashion sorceress outfit, and Bom’s gorgeous meditation scene now contains quirky splices of ‘dark Bom’.
It’s a fierce piece that should definitely be viewed in HD!
How many differences can you spot between the original MV and this new one?

2NE1’s song “GO AWAY” has become the new theme song to Fuji Television’s “Mezamashi News”!
The Korean girl group had previously released the Japanese version of their hit song “GO AWAY” as a ringtone, but now fans of 2NE1 can hear the song on television despite the indefinite postponement of their Japanese debut. The early morning news shows will begin using the song during its broadcast on April 1st, 4:00 AM JST. If you can recall, Mezamashi News previously used Big Bang’s“HAND’S UP” as a theme song for the show.
28 Maret:Many Korean idols have successfully moved into the Japanese music market, and some have even dominated the Oricon Charts. However, when it comes to doing just that, it seems like 2NE1 has a long way to go.

It has come to a surprise to many that 2NE1’s recent move into the Japanese music industry has proved to be anything but successful. Although this fierce quartet is considered to be one of the best idol groups in Korea, their advancement into Japan disappointed – their album, ‘2NE1‘, which was released in Japan on March 16th, reached only #18 on the Daily Rankings; on the Weekly Rankings, it fell to #24.
Some are speculating that this disappointment may be a result from the recent earthquake in Japan, as 2NE1 was supposed to make an appearance on Asahi TV’s “Music Station” on the 11th to promote their album. However, on that same day, the earthquake hit the Tohoku province, leading 2NE1 to cancel their schedule and return home, back to Korea.
Although the tragedy may have played a role in 2NE1’s slump, it fails to wholly explain their disappointment in Japan, as B2ST sold over 10,000 copies of their newly released album on the same day. In addition, B2ST reached #2 on the Daily Charts, while Ryu Shi Won snatched #3.
As a result of 2NE1’s “failure” in the Japanese music market, the media has already started to analyze the cause of their lack of success, as well as the direction of the Hallyu wave. Although certain media outlets have labeled the ‘2NE1′ album as a failure, others have defended the girls’ album. Moreover, situations like these can have an adverse effect on the Hallyu wave.
After the success of the drama “Winter Sonata” in 2002, actors Bae Yong Joon, Ryu Shi Won, Lee Byung Hyun, and others sparked the Hallyu wave. Since their success in the Japanese market, countless of other stars attempted to do the same, as they saw the Hallyu wave as a simple means of making money. As a result, the Hallyu market became deranged in concept; these days, the term ‘Hallyu star’ is used so often that it doesn’t hold the same lustre anymore.
Taking 2NE1’s recent failure into mind, the Hallyu wave should be analyzed more critically so that it may once again spread far and wide.

26 Maret:
The members of 2NE1 started giggling like schoolgirls the moment they heard the word ‘boyfriend.’ All that charismatic and rebellious swagger they show on stage disappeared, and in its place was a light blush. After glancing at one another, the younger ones eventually pushed Sandara Park to talk.

Park started with a sigh.
Recently, I’ve been confused. I haven’t been in a relationship for 5~6 years. I don’t know if it’s because my love receptors are dead, but no matter which man I see, I have no interest.”
The resigned tone in her voice caused everyone in the room to laugh.
She continued, ”My ideal type is Won Bin. I liked his character in the drama ‘Kkokji.’ He was a younger guy who had a crush on an older woman, and he was very cool.
The reporter asked if she disliked older men, to which she responded, “I feel more comfortable with younger guys. My thinking is immature, so I connect better with people younger than me. But I don’t like rudeness. I guess I like the feel of a little twist? You know, like a beautiful guy who’s surprisingly a tough guy in the end.
The other members all agreed, “Dara-unni has high expectations.”
CL, who had revealed many times before that her ideal type was YG’s very own producer Teddy, recently switched up her type. “President Yang Hyun Suk told me to stop talking about Teddy-oppa. (laughter) I would like a manly person who I can respect. A positive and energetic person.”
The group’s youngest, Minzy, suddenly began talking about Usher. “I went to his concert recently, and he was glowing. I like people like Usher who can manage themselves well.
Park Bom also responded, “I would like a man who does his job well and works hard. I would like him even more if he was a musician. Like if he was in business, he would do music business…
When asked, “Working hard on top of being good, and music? Isn’t that Lee Seung Gi?” She replied, “That’s true~” and laughed.
But as the laughter died down, 2NE1 became slightly gloomy. They concluded, “We’re always at home, so when could we date? Still, even when it’s just us, we hardly talk about boys. Maybe it’s because we are all so close that we don’t need boyfriends? (laughter)”

Sports Chosun was recently granted exclusive access into the YG Entertainment building in order get a sneak peek at 2NE1’s preparations for their comeback next month!

Their interview kicked off in the basement, where the girls stretched and synced their choreography in a rehearsal room surrounded by mirrors.  Shortly afterwards, the members laughed as they exclaimed, “Our dancing isn’t in sync, right?  It’s so different!”
CL explained, “We want to be like the other groups and sync our fingers and toes, but it doesn’t work like that on stage for us.  We just let everything go when we get up there and lend our bodies to the music.  It’s not that we do it on purpose.”
Bom added, “Even our choreographer doesn’t come up with anything until he listens to our music with us.  He comes up with ideas naturally, so our individuality fits right in.”
Later, the girls moved to their recording room, and they reminisced back to the time when they first entered the room. Bom revealed, “I remember that all four of us sat like this on the sofa.  We were rookies, so we didn’t dare lean back either; at the time, recording was a very tiring process.”
Regarding their album preparations, which is scheduled for release next month, the girls revealed, “We currently have one track finished.  We’ll probably have to live in the recording room for now.”
Finally, the interview led to their training area, where their personal trainer revealed that the members receive training specific to their needs. At the mention of how Bom usually headlines for her weight, she explained, “When I first saw the reports, I wondered to myself why such reports were being made since I didn’t think I was that fat.  I was a bit surprised at first, but I became more determined to overcome it with my own skills (laughter).”

At close to midnight on March 12th, Sandara ParkPark Bom, and Minzy finally returned to Seoul safely via Gimpo Airport, and gave their fans a huge sight of relief.

11 Maret:

YG Entertainment has announced that 2NE1’s Japanese debut has been postponed in light of the horrific 8.8 earthquake and consequential tsunami.

2NE1 flew to Japan earlier this week to prepare for their debut Japanese single, “Go Away“, which was initially slated for release on March 11th. The girls were also preparing for a live performance onAsahiTV’s “Music Station“. All that changed when Japan was rocked by the natural disasters.
YG Entertainment representatives released the following statement:
“The group’s performance on AsahiTV’s “Music Station” was cancelled, consequently pushing back their debut stage. We had originally planned for the group to return to Korea on the 12th; however, due to the closure of all Japanese airports, we will just need to keep a close eye on the situation.”
They continued, “The hotel the group is currently staying at is one of sturdiest buildings in Japan, but even then, the building saw a crack on their wall. We’re upset that they can’t perform their debut stage, but we’re just very thankful that 2NE1 is safe and sound.”

4 member Korean girl group, 2NE1, will finally debut in Japan. The group is known for their R&B-electric sound, their cool dance performances and their colorful fashion.
When AVEX saw 2NE1’s high quality performances, their unique fashion sense and their achievements in Korea; the company immediately began contract negotiations to bring them to Japan. This past October, they officially signed the group to their label.
2NE1 will debut in Japan this spring with the Japanese version of their Korean track,“GO AWAY”; the Japanese lyrics will be about a strong girl. On March 9th, Recochoku will release “GO AWAY” as a Chaku Uta (ringtone) that fans can download. The girls are looking to advance not only in Japan, but America as well. The group’s leader, CL (19), commented, “You’ve all waited a long time for us to debut in Japan. We’ll do our best to live up to your expectations”.
Statement on AVEX’s official website:
