7 January:

It’s just been revealed that Rain participated in an interview with the Give Media Gift, a collaboration project with Naver‘s Happy Bean charity service.
Rain donated his personal mic and stage uniform to the cause. Should 5,000 people donate as well, his items will go up for auction to ensure a greater donation amount, which will all go towards helping children from low-income families.
In his interview, Rain was asked what the driving force behind his 11-year career was. He replied that family, personal pride, and respect for his fans were what kept him grounded throughout the years.
“At the time, I had to have economic power in society for my family’s wellbeing. At the thought of many seniors and people watching me, I also had to have pride in myself and my music to ensure that I would always be presenting progressive and improved music on stage,” said Rain.
Rain continued, “I respect my fans and genuinely thank them for purchasing such expensive albums, acknowledging my effort, and always watching over me. It was through them that I realized that I had to create and perform better music. From my youth, I remember the devastation, pain, hope, and finally bravery.”
As a message to the kids, he expressed, “Opportunity and success will come to those who wait. I believe that there is a car called Fate in life. Everyone is riding on a car of fate, just that for some, the road they’re on has traffic, which just requires a change in lane to pick up the pace again.”
Concluding the interview, he said, “I’d like to tell my juniors and everyone around me that if you work hard and wait, all of your dreams and hopes can come true.”

30 December:
American celebrity fashion and beauty network, MTV Style, has posted their list of the best male fashion icons for the ‘The Best Men’s Fashion of 2011‘.

Every year, MTV Style picks out the hottest male celebrities who are deemed to have been the most fashionable during that year. This year’s list included a variety of entertainers ranging from Justin Bieber to Adam Lambert. World star Rain lived up to his moniker by placing among these top icons, and even made the editors “pine”.
Check out what MTV Style had to say about Rain below and see the rest of the stars here.
Since Rain has been conscripted into the South Korean army for his mandatory two-year engagement, we’ve been pining for the fashion magazine editorials that don’t come or the MCM luxury ads just like the ones you see above. Perched atop an enormous monogrammed steamer in rag-and-rolled khakis and an MCM varsity jacket (that differs markedly from Jaden’s, you’ll note) and in another look perched atop his toes in MCM mids and a Harrington, we are reminded of the enormous handsomeness of the K-Pop GOD and acting genius. Return to us soon, Rain. We’re only happy when it Rains. How I wish it would Rain. Your love’s coming down like… etc., etc.,…

Global superstar Rain recently plunged his fans into despair by announcing that he’d be joining the Korean army on October 11th. He tried to soften the blow by going on a nationwide tour, as well as releasing a new single. “Rain, who is an ambassador for Gangnam, requested a free concert in the city to meet with his fans prior to his enlistment,” said a representative for the festival. “He has been preparing for this concert, even trying to push back his enlistment date.”

Singer/actor Rain ended his very last concert before his enlistment to the cheers of 10,000 fans.
After debuting in 2002 with “Bad Guy“, Rain raced through 10 years of singing, acting, and even producing. All this fame and glory will be put on hold for two years once Rain starts his mandatory military service on October 11th.
Of course, he couldn’t go without holding one last mind-blowing show, and so he went on a nation-wide tour called ‘The Best Show‘.

On September 24th and 25th, Rain held his very last concerts in Seoul, which drew fans not only from all over Korea, but around the world as well. It’s said that fans flew in from countries like China and Japan to bid their favorite star farewell. Additionally, reporters spotted his celebrity friends in the audience, like Lee Bum SooMBLAQ, and A Pink.

Though the concert began 10 minutes, Rain was received with wild screams as the lights began to dim and lasers shot out across the stage to announce his arrival. He kicked off the show with “Hip Song“, and the energy from this performance set the pace for the rest of the night. For 2 hours and 40 minutes, Rain busted out many of his popular hits, such as ”How to Avoid the Sun” and “I Do“. The fans all sang along without hesitation, and they drew out the loudest screams they could when the star demanded, “Make some noise!”.

During the concert, Rain also talked lightheartedly about his upcoming enlistment. “I thank everyone who made it to this concert,” he said. “Today’s show is a little different from my usual shows. I originally wanted to show you my hair dyed in a different color, but I didn’t do it because my hair is precious to me!”

Eventually, all good things come to an end, and Rain concluded the night by singing “Instead of Saying Goodbye“. He promised to return to his fans in two years, and asked that they patiently wait for him.

The Seoul Central Prosecutors’ Office found that J Tune Creative, the company he’s the largest shareholder in, had deposited $2.255 million USD, nearly 50% of their company funds, to Rain in one instance when Rain never acted as a model for the company.  In addition, the pay was said to have been too excessive in comparison to other models.

23 August:

Singer Rain has recently been hit with plagiarism accusations for his recent song “Busan Woman.”
Through a phone call with TV Report, an associate of Rain said, “We know about the plagiarism controversy on the internet pertaining to similarities between Raphael Saadiq’s ‘Detroit Girl’ and Rain’s ‘Busan Woman’.

If you look at the chord progressions, ours is a 4 tempo beat while ‘Detroit Girl’ is a 2 tempo beat. However, I understand why there would be a misunderstanding because in general, the Neo-Soul genre gives off a similar feel.

The introduction and bridge parts are alike, but I’ll say it once more: it is not plagiarized. Also, the song is not part of an album. It was a song revealed for a fan event so we are simply overwhelmed by this controversy.”
Rain himself stated, “I know that there is a controversy. However, it’s not plagiarism.”
His side of the issue stated, “If it is accused of plagiarism just from the chord progressions, a significant number of existing music would also be plagiarized.”
Source: TV Report via Nate - allkpop

All-star Rain has been hit with plagiarism accusations for his digital single, ‘Busan Woman‘, which was released earlier this month on the 16th.
‘Busan Woman’ has been accused of copying the general makeup and chorus of Raphael Saadiq’s ‘Detroit Girl‘. Representatives and fans of the music industry are saying, “Only the names of the cities are different — the song title, instruments, rhythm, and melody seem to have been re-used“.
Moreover, “The introduction is such an important part of any song, yet the two tracks are ridiculously similar. The songs sound like adaptations of each other.
The two songs indeed possess a similar tempo and pitch that gets repeated all throughout. Netizens also noted how the titles and lyrics coincide and both feature the electric piano as the main instrument.
Raphael Saadiq is an American producer, singer, and songwriter who released ‘Detroit Girl’ back in 2004. Meanwhile, ‘Busan Woman’ was a piece Rain was said to have worked on for 16 months, and was supposedly inspired by his personal life. No reference to sampling or buying the rights of another song seem apparent, only that the track had been registered as a song produced and co-written by Rain and a person who remains anonymous.
An official at Rain’s agency states, “This is the first time we’ve heard that ‘Busan Woman’ is a plagiarized song. We will perform an inspection to check it one more time“.
One K-Pop official comments, “If one is listening to a song and is immediately reminded of another song, the embarrassment for the artist should be huge. The problem of plagiarizing songs in order to create more songs should disappear“.
However, the co-writer of ‘Busan Woman’ says, “There is no reason for me to really respond to these plagiarism accusations. I have never heard of ‘Detroit Girl’ or even of Raphael Saadiq and am upset that we have been accused of plagiarism. The structure may be similar, but if that permits plagiarism accusations then all songs must be plagiarized“.
