The members of FT Island have once again showered their fans with love.

As they wrapped up promotions for ‘Severely‘ on March 18th at SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo‘, the boys held a fan meeting with approximately 400 fans. FT Island member Choi Jong Hun personally handed out candies, pastries, and drinks to those that attended.
Ever since March 14th (White Day), each of the members took turns handing out various goodies to fans that attended their live broadcast shows. FT Island’s new album ‘Grown Up‘ consists of five tracks that are slow-tempoed, rock-ballads. The group has received positive feedback as the album ranked #1 on various music charts and have won several music programs.
We’re thankful to our fans who have given us lots of love. We also ‘severely’ love our fans,” the members said.

FT Island proved that they were ‘stupidly in love‘ with their fans.

The above photo recently surfaced on various online community sites with the title, ‘The idol stars that went broke after emptying their wallets to buy snacks for the fans that came to see them.’
The netizen who posted the photo seemed to be an avid FT Island fan, and the photo displayed the many things the FT Island members bought for their fans that came to cheer them on.
For every comeback performance, fan meeting, and more, the boys always buy snacks for their fans,” she wrote. “When it’s cold, they buy us warm drinks, when it’s warm out, they offer ice cream and juice. And if the event takes place early in the morning and the fans haven’t eaten yet, they buy pastries and drinks for the fans.”
The boys of FT Island are known for writing sweet things to their fans via their official Twitter pages, and personally going out to greet the fans who could not get tickets to see them perform.
In related news, FT Island recently made a comeback on SBS Inkigayo February 5th with their new song, “Severely” which is ranking high on online music charts.

During a recent interview with online music portal ‘Monkey3‘, FT Island revealed the real reason to their appearance on ‘Immortal Song 2′.

When the members were asked whether or not it was their good looks that caused people to question their actual skills they replied, “People accused us of not actually playing our instruments just by looking at our hand motions on television. There were even rumors that the background music in our albums were not even performed by us. This is probably the main reason why we decided to be on ‘Immortal Song 2′. The rumors were really unsettling.”
They then stated, “We were very glad when we received positive feedback when we appeared on the show. Just by performing live infront of the crowds and showing them we did not fake any of our performances made the stage even more special and meaningful.”

29 September:
A complaint against F.T. Island for disrespectful behavior recently became a hot issue online.

On September 29th, the owner of a car that was borrowed for F.T. Island’s new music video shoot wrote a series of complaints about the members’ behavior and the way they treated his property. He eventually had to ask that they stop filming so that he could take his car and leave.
The man wrote, “After receiving notice that my car was wanted in F.T. Island’s music video, I rushed to the scene with a happy heart.  But once filming actually began, the singers climbed on top of the car and treated it however they wanted to, stepping on it and acting like it was some toy.”
He continued, “One member even asked me, ‘How much is this?, $50,000 USD?’, ‘It doesn’t seem like it costs much, let’s buy one too.’  Even if it’s just a used car that costs $50,000 USD, a car is special to its owner.  How could they get on top of the car and jump on it while the owner was watching like that?  I had to ask that they stop filming, took the car, and left.”
Director Kim Eun Yoo responded to the controversy on his Twitter by writing, “The members merely followed what was written in the script for the music video. We explained to the car’s owner that there was a scene where the members had to climb on to the top of the car and received his permission.  The next day, he asked for an additional fee to compensate for treating his car roughly.  Now that a picture from the scene has been leaked along with a post hating on the singers, we feel deeply disappointed.”

After the concert, the boys said, “It was our first concert in nearly a year in Korea so we prepared a lot of things. Our hearts swelled at seeing such a full audience; an empty space really couldn’t be seen. It was an exciting, fun concert, so much so that we don’t even remember how it started and how it ended.”

The single will include three tracks: “Let It Go” (written by Lee Hongki and Choi Minhwan, composed by Choi Jonghoon), “Dream Sky” (written by Song Seunghyun, composed by Song Seunghyun and Choi Minhwan), and “Someday” (written and composed by Lee Jaejin).

19 June:
They say we’re as popular as TVXQ in Eastern Europe.

The 5-manned group FT Island seems to be on cloud nine. Their first official album released in Japan this past month, “Five Treasure Island“, hit the top of the Oricon Chart. With this result, it was the first time in the chart’s 42-year history that a male artist(s) hit number 1 on the weekly chart with their first full album. Even beyond that, their reputation overseas has been growing at quite a rapid pace.
Their rapid popularity increase in recent times was evidenced by the fact that despite their 4 years in the Japanese market, they become number 1 for the first time only now. Recently, their international popularity was felt as fans from far away places such as Mexico and France came to their recent fan signing event in Seoul. They also heard that their fan-base was growing in Hungary and Romania. The group also received an offer to hold a concert in Brazil. It’s an exciting time, with the idea of the K-Pop wave spreading across Asia and reaching over to Europe and the Americas.
However, as their promotions increases more and more overseas, it’s only natural for the hometown fans to feel a bit left out. Their activities in Korea have shrunken tremendously in comparison. FT Island’s release of their mini album ‘Return‘ this past month marked the first time in 10 months where they were allowed them to promote themselves in Korea. Although promoting for only a short period of a month, this was their way of a considerate apology to their fans.
We didn’t do anything in Korea for too long and we’re so apologetic to our fans that are always waiting for us, cheering us on and always wanting the best for us. We’re breaking even the shortest time to spend our little free time with our fans in Korea.

With that said, “Return” captures FT Island’s colors much more vividly than ever before. In the past, their music included other instruments apart from their core band, but this time, the music was composed centrally around the band. The album also listed a fan song composed by the leader, Choi JongHoontitled, “I’m Going to Confess“. This was created in thought of all the fans that waited for them so long, every single member also took part in the vocals to show their gratitude.
Through this promotion, we wanted to show that we’re not forgetting about our fans in Korea. This promotion in the end was something like a sample, but it’s also a promise that we will be back soon.”
FT Island will be concluding their promotions in Korea on the 26th of June and they will start their Japan tour beginning on the 29th for about a month. They’re leaving their brief meeting with their hometown fans behind and flying out once more.
But FT Island promised more bright things for their fans in Korea, stating, “After we’re done with our Japan tour concert, we will be touring Asia, including a concert in Korea.”

F.T. Island will be wrapping up their third mini-album promotions to prepare for their Japanese tour.

On June 15th, a representative of FNC Music spoke through Star News and revealed, “F.T. Island will be concluding their Korean promotions through next week’s ’Inkigayo‘. Starting on the 29th, they’ll be going on a one-month-long summer tour in Japan. The boys will be leaving on the 28th, the day after vocalist Hongki completes his recording for ‘Immortal Song 2‘.”
He continued, “The members have been practicing for their Japanese tour on days that they didn’t have any music programs scheduled. Although it’s undecided for now, we are considering an Asian tour after they complete their Japanese tour.”
Starting on the 29th, F.T. Island will be holding their “2011 F.T. Island Natsu Tour Messenger” concert, which concludes on July 29th.

10 June:

We know that the members of F.T. Island are quite talented, but sometimes they get overlooked for trendier idols. Recently, the boys guested on the radio program, “Kim Heechul’s Young Street“, and delivered an amazing cover that left listeners clamoring for more.
F.T. Island gave an acoustic twist to Park Bom’s popular hit, “You & I“, and astounded everyone in the room with their husky vocals and resonating talent.

On June 5th, F.T. Island held a surprise fan meet after their performance on SBS’s “Inkigayo“!

Immediately after they finished recording for the show, the boys prepared an on-the-spot fan meet for those fans who came to support their comeback.
The boys debuted on June 7th, 2007, so this marks their fourth anniversary. Consequently, five hundred Primadonnas gathered to congratulate the boys on another successful year.
With tears in their eyes, the boys said, “Thank you for supporting us for the past four years. We spent a lot of time in Japan, so seeing our fans still waiting for us like this makes all of us feel like family. Let’s be together for longer than we’ve been together now.”
Hongki personally gave his bracelet to a fan who had won one of the many games they played together. The boys even bought drinks and passed them out to each of the fans there.

After achieving much success in Japan, the boys of F.T. Island have finally returned to their home turf more confident than ever. Their first Japanese album, “Five Treasure Island“, ranked at the top ofOricon’s weekly chart, the first for a foreign artist in Oricon’s 42 years of history.
The boys recently sat down for an interview with IS Sports in commemoration of the feat and shared their thoughts on their impressive achievements.  Check it out below!
-
Q. “How did you feel when you first found out that you ranked in first on the weekly chart?”
“It felt like a movie. We were in the middle of our concert and one of our staff members ran up to the stage and held up a piece of paper that read, ‘You ranked first on Oricon.’ The fans that were watching us all burst out with emotions and we just burst into tears. We’re still not sure how the concert ended because we flew around on stage.”
Q. “It’s been a while since you advanced into Japan.”
“We advanced not as idols, but as a band. Like real Japanese rookie bands start out, we first began performing in clubs in front of audiences that didn’t amount to 100. It was because we took such a process that we’re able to stand where we are now. It’s been four years that we’ve been planting these seeds. We’ve performed in probably 50 or so small-scale performances.”
Q. “Was it difficult in the beginning?”
“We cried a lot. We had crossed over to Japan at the height of our fame in Korea, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t upset with our CEO telling us to start over from the floor in Japan. All of our fans had just suddenly disappeared. Even while studying music in Japan, we thought of a lot of unnecessary things and were just very lonely and sad. We still remember the taste of the kyudong we ate in our 10 pyeong-sized dorm. We only ate bacon, ramen, and kyudong and did all of the housework ourselves. But CNBLUE ended up living in that dorm after us (laughter).”
Q. “Do you think your Japanese promotions helped you in the long run?”
“If we had been satisfied with our popularity in Korean, we don’t feel that our skills would have improved. The entire time we were in Japan, we took lessons from various different teachers and could feel ourselves really growing and improving. We’re proud of being invited to perform at the Summersonic Rock Festival. We also did 100% of the session in our latest album as well.”
Q. “Introduce your album, ‘Return.’ What does it mean?”
“Because of our Japanese activities, we weren’t in Korea often. This album is an expression of our return to Korea and our fans. We wanted to show our gratitude for waiting for us. Our title track, ‘Hello Hello‘, is a very upbeat, F.T.-style rock song. Although the beat is fun, the lyrics are actually sad in that it’s about a man holding back a lover that’s leaving him by saying ‘Hello’ instead of ‘Goodbye’. ‘Confession‘ is a song that features all five of our voices and it’s a song thanking our fans for being with us even when we caused trouble and made them upset. We think only a team like us where our popularity has been cut can truly feel gratitude towards their fans.”

Q. “Jang Geun Suk, who’s also close with Hongki, is very popular in Japan. Do you meet often up often?”
“Geun Suk hyung’s popularity is really the best. I can see why he’s called ‘Little Yonsama.’ I sometimes grab a drink when he’s in Japan. One time, we went to Izakaya and they kept showing the CF for Geun Suk hyung’s makgeolli brand on TV nonstop. It was fun at first until I got tired of seeing it (laughter).”
Q. “Are you close with any Korean teams?”
“We’re best friends with B2ST because the member ages all fit very closely. We sometimes go bowling together and go head to head, but we’re definitely better at bowling than they are. The last score was 4:1.”
Q. “Since you’re always going back and forth from Korea and Japan, it must be a bit uncomfortable to date.”
“You’re right. We don’t lie. We’re not the types to say we don’t have girlfriends on variety shows when we really do. Right now, we really don’t have any girlfriends.”
