On June 17th, f(x) officially kicked off their “Hot Summer” promotions with a bold wardrobe and fun dance moves that perfectly matched the song’s upbeat sound.
The “Hot Summer” choreography is comprised of multiple ‘points’, such as “it’s so hot” dance from the chorus (where the members tap their outstretched legs and fan themselves) and “the running dance” (where the girls move as if in slow-motion).

The charming choreography and infectious sound are quickly allowing the girls to take top spots on the charts. In fact, on June 21st, “Hot Summer” ranked first place on Melon’s real-time chart, and it continues to rank highly on other sites as well.

16 Mei:

The set of KBS’s “Music Bank” was recently nicknamed the ‘warzone of idols’ thanks to the many debuts and comebacks this month. Over 100 staff members and artists bustled in the hallways each week, creating a thick feeling of tension as they make last-minute checks on everything they’ve prepared months for.
At the center of such activity is girl group f(x), who recently made their comeback after a year-long hiatus. The girls took fans behind-the-scenes for a sel-ca tour of their waiting room. Luna expressed,“The waiting room is where sweat and tears co-exist.”
Her heart is still beating over the “Pinocchio” win, as she explained, “That day, our members cried nonstop all day starting in the morning. Because it was the day that we were to appear on a music program, we all felt different from the moment we stepped in our waiting room. The five of us were on the same page, and we just kept confessing everything we felt sorry for that day. We opened up our hearts and consoled each other through tears. We didn’t even think about winning, but we somehow won on top of that. Holding each other close, we really cried nonstop.”
As K-pop fans know, artists must spend their entire day at the broadcast hall on days they’re to appear on music programs. They rehearse three to four times and can’t leave the scene until they’re done with their live broadcast. f(x) arrived at 9:00 AM and rushed back and forth to get their hair, make-up, and outfits coordinated. Once they quickly grab a meal, they finally have time to breathe and rest.

Krystal and Luna browse the ‘net using a tablet PC while Amber enjoys playing with a rubix cube. No matter how hard the combination, she’s able to complete it in 30 to 40 seconds flat. Meanwhile, Sulli and Victoria came up with unique styles and took sel-cas to fill the time.
Brian, who’s in the waiting room next door, stopped by to chat with the girls before junior groups like X-5 and Rania briefly made visits to greet their seniors.

f(x) stated, “Because there are so many idols these days, people think that we’re all in a competition, but we’re not like that at all. We’re all close friends, seniors, and juniors, and all hope to learn something from each other. There isn’t any fierce competition at all.”

Luna named IU as a friend that she got close with through the waiting room. “When IU was promoting ‘Marshmallow’, someone told me that we were the same age.  We once used the same waiting room so I knew that this was my chance. I left her a note saying I wanted to be friends, and we’ve become best friends ever since.”
Concluding their interview, the girls revealed, “The stage music is so loud that we can’t hear what the person next to us is saying. We’d like for them to make a separate room for people to share secrets in.”

14 Mei:

f(x) recently revealed fresh face photos of themselves that impressed netizens, but also left them wondering where Amber was.

On May 12th, fresh face photos of the girls were revealed on the “Choi Hwa Jung’s Power Time” homepage under the title, “f(x)’s baby-like no-makeup faces, daebak selca~ Totally princess pose“.
The post stated,
They said they had come right after completing their morning schedule, but considering that they were tired, their complexion was glowing. Even though they just woke up from sleeping, they are like princesses from fairytales.
Sulli showed off her milky baby-like skin wearing her pink baseball cap, and Victoria completed her ‘fresh face=glasses’ look. Luna and Krystal also gave off comfortable feelings with their bright expressions.
Netizens commented, “So sweet and pretty“, “Amber is missing“, and “Such great complexion“.

5 Mei:
After a 11 month hiatus, f(x) returned to the music scene with “Pinocchio.” While other idol groups release back-to-back albums in order to stay relevant, f(x) proved that they didn’t need to rely on those typical marketing tactics; their unique and distinctive style would speak for them instead.

“It feels like we’re finally being acknowledged for our style,” Luna excitedly said.
They’ve already topped countless music charts and have a “Music Bank” trophy under their belt, but it took a long time to achieve that success. Their title track alone went through countless revamps in order to become what it is today.
The girls revealed that the lyrics for the song were originally completely different. Producer Lee Soo Man had said, “If it’s under the name of f(x), don’t you think it has to be a bit more special than that?”
They eventually took apart the lyrics, which set off a chain effect. If the lyrics had to be changed, then so did the song’s style and their singing methods as well.
Krystal commented, “Our original lyrics were ‘normal’ and ‘public friendly.’ The current ‘Pinocchio’ lyrics has a lot of words that aren’t used often.” Luna continued, “I underwent a lot of changes with my singing style to give more life to the lyrics.” Victoria added, “The lyrics were hard for me to understand, so I had to get a lot of help from the members”
Their efforts definitely paid off, as the girls are not only are they seeing success musically, but in the variety industry as well. ”I loved watching ‘We Got Married‘ before I got to actually be on it. Through the program, I’ve improved on my Korean and met a lot of good friends,” Victoria said.
Amber, who’s been away for a few months due to her ankle injury, added, “I had a lot of fun watching the members pursue individual activities. I paid special attention on my health because I wanted to get back and promote with the members as fast as possible.” Smiling, she stated, “I’m now completely healthy.”
Krystal, who previously starred in MBC’s “Charming by the Day“, revealed, “I’d like to pursue action acting next.”
Maknaes Sulli and Krystal also revealed that they would like to get their driver’s licenses as soon as they reach the eligible age. ”I want to go through the drive-thru at fast food restaurants,” Sulli explained. As for Krystal? “I want to go on a drive in an open car.”

21 April:
After a year of hiatus, the ladies of f(x) finally made their return this week with the release of their first official album, “Pinocchio“!  With their title track already sweeping the charts, the girls are happily preparing for their first comeback stage on “Music Bank“.

In their recent interview with OSEN, the girls were not only confident, but filled with excitement over their upcoming promotion cycle.  Luna began, “Idols usually have synchronized choreographies, but we instead put the emphasis on timing.  We want to be as detailed as possible with our expressions so that the lyrics can be better understood.”
The lyrics for “Pinocchio” compares the process of getting to know a crush to the process of putting together a Pinocchio doll.  Like their past hits, the lyrics are just as convoluted and the sound is just as fresh.
The difference this time lies in the public’s reaction.  Before, they had to replay their songs for a while in order to get a response, but now, they’ve been sweeping the charts even before they’ve come out to promote it.
Sulli commented, “I feel like our color has become a lot more clear.  I’ve been reading a lot of replies about people liking our style.  It feels great that people have accepted it and are even anticipating what we’ll bring next.”
The girls described themselves as a group that people naturally became curious about.  “The more you look, the more you want to know who are.”

Luna continued, “We want to become a group that doesn’t stick to stereotypes.  We want to be convoluted, a group that you can’t just put into one word or feeling.”
For the past year, the members have been each busily taking part in variety shows and musicals, but they all agreed that it was the stage that they missed the most.
Krystal revealed, “For last year’s year-end ceremonies, we stood on stage after such a long time that it made us all really nervous (laughter).  I think that’s why I’m looking forward to this comeback more than ever.”
Victoria and Amber are still busily studying Korean.  For Victoria, she revealed that she was learning a lot through her role in “We Got Married” and that she was glad to have garnered an older fanbase.  Unfortunately for Amber, she’s forgotten most of her Korean during the six months she’s been away, so she’s back to hitting the books again.
Victoria commented, “It’s easier to write than to speak for me.  It’s okay to plan it out in my bed and writing it out, but having to speak fast is still difficult.”
The members added, “We laugh a lot while watching ‘We Got Married’ because Victoria’s real personality shines right through.  She loves cooking and her personality is very cute, which is reflected directly in the show.”
Victoria stated, “Lately, I’ve been feeling the popularity of ‘We Got Married’.  A lot of older women have begun to notice me whenever I go to places like the supermarket.  It’s really cool that the older generation has taken an interest.  I’m glad that I was able to join the program since I’ve always wanted to be on it and I’m learning quite a lot.”
Amber concluded the interview by stating, “Korean is really hard but I want to study hard and become a VJ some day.  I’m also going to continue pursuing music no matter what, so I hope people listen to f(x)’s music.  Every song included in the track is of a different genre, so you’ll definitely never get bored.”
