ZE:A

26 December:

Before the ZE:A members stepped on stage for their ‘ZE:A’s 1st Anniversary Party Concert-Na:Num‘ at AX-Korea on December 26th, the boys held a press conference to answer a few questions and deliver some messages to their fans.
Member Moon Junyoung remarked, “Thank you everyone for coming out to our concert despite the cold weather. We will work to create a diverse performance tonight to show you sides of ourselves we have yet to show you before. We will not disappoint you with your powerful performances and musical skills.”
You will also be able to see our members personally DJ’ing,” he continued.
Member Kwanghee added, “Just like how our concert is titled ‘Na:num’ (sharing in Korean), this show is a charity performance. We will do our best to serve those who are less fortunate, so we hope everyone else will be able to have the same heart as they watch our performance.”
The concert garnered an impressive crowd of 2,000 and part of the profits from the performance will be donated to less-fortunate children. The boys have financially supported a particular orphanage since before their debut, and created this ‘year-end party’ event in an effort to sense and carry out the joy of giving together with their fans.
Good People International (GPI), a South Korean NGO, actively supported the boys and created a charity program that the boys can hold for their fans. Large corporations such as Binggrae,WafflebantPlayMonsters, and more combined their efforts by donating their products to be sold at the event at discounted prices, and the profits were donated back to GPI.

Following the ban of X-5’s “Fantasy“ yesterday, ZE:A’s “Be My Girl” has been added to the list because it has been deemed as ‘unsuitable for minors’ by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
The track is from their first official album, “Lovability“, and it’s received a parental advisory sticker because a part of the lyrics stated, “Be my girl tonight.”
The ministry explained that it was too sexually suggestive.
Representatives of Star Empire stated, “‘Be My Girl’ has been deemed unfit for minors and will no longer be sold to those under the age of 19. Whether we will edit the lyrics or not is still undecided.”
Songs that are judged as ‘harmful media to the youth’ cannot be sold to minors under the age of 19, and also cannot be aired on television channels before 10 PM.
Netizens said, “So many songs have ‘be my girl’ in them, the standards are really confusing lately”, and“Exactly what part of those lyrics are sexually suggestive? What are they even thinking?”

Dongjun debuted with the cast on April 28th, where the first show was put on, and received a great amount of praise from the public, and even has a new official nickname of ‘Dong-laddin’.
Dongjun stated after the performance, “Singing and acting was a great help in performing on a musical stage. It was quite exciting, and seeing my brothers in the audience cheering me on, although I was a bit shaky, made me feel a ton better.”

On May 3rd, ZE:A received a touching letter from an orphanage the members first visited last year and have been keeping in touch with since.

For the past year, the members have been working with their fanclub for a special donation project dedicated to Suwon’s “Kyung Dong Won” orphanage. Their efforts weren’t just limited to Suwon alone, however, as they extended their support to other organizations supplementing undernourished kids in Africa.
A representative of Star Empire Entertainment commented, “The members have been participating in a public service and donation project with their official fanclub. Having debuted in 2010, the boys have been receiving more and more love since then. In an effort to return the love they are receiving, they felt the need to make at least a small effort to help others. The heartwarming letter we received from the orphanage actually makes them feel like they’ve received something bigger in return; they’re very thankful.”
A portion of the letter states:
“Hello, this is Kyung Dong Won. This winter was colder than most, but we were warmed with your kind hearts. We would like to thank you for all of the love you’ve sent us, and also for the various presents you have been sending the children. They are so happy with the presents, it was so cute to see them so overjoyed with their favorite toys. We think you would have liked seeing them so happy.
Whenever the children see TV shows with the members of ZE:A on them, they recognize them and call them their ‘hyungs’ and ‘uncles.’ Can you imagine how adorable that is? All of our children are ZE:A’s fanclub members. We will always be supporting you, so fighting!”

26 Maret:
Two days ago, ZE:A collaborated with INFINITE and Dalmatian to bring “Music Bank” viewers a special treat for the fresh Spring season.

Each group delivered crisp choreography that expressed their individual styles in both music and dance. ZE:A brought a sense of mystery and sophistication to their stage by wearing double masks so they could perform blindly. It was a huge hit, and netizens are still chattering about the sensational effect of their performance.
A rehearsal video was uploaded onto the web, and it showed the boys tightening each point in their choreography. Although they’re awkwardly spaced out at first, they eventually converge to stand more wholly as a unit.

22 Maret: ZE:A swept fans off their feet when they dropped their ultra-sweet MV for “Here I Am”, and it looks like they’ve done it again with the alternate ‘dance version’!

While the first focused on relaying a romantic story about the ‘ZE:A angels’ helping their girl out

in her quest for love, this second version aimed to deliver a clear shot of their choreography.

Dressed in Spring’s khakis and blues, the boys danced cheerfully on their ‘European-style

19 Maret: Before the boys headed for their “Music Bank” stage, ZE:A met with reporters and shared their thoughts about their long-awaited comeback.

They stated, “We’ll be promoting with our title track, ‘Here I Am‘, from our ‘Lovability‘ comeback album. The cute concept that we’re going with fits better with our image, especially since most of our members have thin, sweet voices. It was difficult for us to give off that deeper feel with the other concepts, so we’re all satisfied and feel that the concept fits us the best. It really was harder to try and act cool(laughter).”
At the mention of how other groups had similar concepts, Dongjun replied, “I think the fact that we have nine members, which is a lot, can work to our advantage. The production period for our album was especially long, so we prepared that much harder. The long wait helped out a lot.”
Member Taehun especially participated in the production for three tracks: “Here I Am,” “Special Day,” and “Be My Girl.”
He shared, “All of our members tried their best in bringing out their own individual colors in this album. Our affections towards this album are strong, so we hope that our fans give it a lot of love.”

17 Maret:
Star Empire Entertainment prohibits their trainees and artists from having cell phones. They reasoned,“Trainees should focus on practicing their dancing and singing, it’s better that they don’t have cell phones. In cases of emergency, they are allowed to borrow cell phones from the agency.”

Other agencies promise cell phones a year or two into the

artist’s debut, and although ZE:A finally passed that landmark,

they will not be getting cell phones anytime soon.

Representatives continued to explain,“Rookie singers must bow and greet their seniors and other program staff members when they’re at broadcast halls. But if they have cell phones, they’ll most likely be walking around while checking their phones, and won’t be able to greet everyone properly.”
“A while ago, one celebrity did not greet a senior because she/he was busy texting and received a lot of criticism for that. In order to prevent such misunderstandings from happening, it’s better that they don’t have cell phones.”
Other groups like SECRET and CNBLUE are also prohibited from owning cell phones for those same reasons. In the case of F.T. Island, the boys promoted without cell phones for two years, before they finally got them back after winning first place.
Musing over the increased rate of idol groups without cell phones, an industry representative stated, “The majority of idol groups live together in dorms, so even without cell phones, they don’t really have a need for it. These days, tablet PCs and Twitters are used more often for communication.”

ZE:A has landed a few drama cameos so far, but coincidentally, they all end up with the boys getting locked up in a cell.
On March 7th, Kwang Hee made a cameo appearance on KBS’s “Crime Squad“, and played the role of an idol group’s leader. After being swept in an unfair assault case, he was eventually arrested and forced to undergo an interrogation at the police station.
His fellow members Jun Young and Dong Jun were put in a similar predicament with their cameo last year on SBS’s “Prosecutor Princess.” The two were scripted to be transferred to a police station, and were later held behind bars.
Though the coincidences are amusing, netizens were more focused on praising Kwang Hee’s successful acting debut. The star put aside his famous ‘kkap‘ personality to express a different charm.
ZE:A is currently preparing for their comeback showcase, which will be followed by their first official album’s release on March 17th.
