SISTAR19’s sweet but sexy performance style has been earning many headlines ever since they debuted earlier this month. Deviating from the usual pop style they’re known for, the two girls went for a medium-tempo, neo-soul track that didn’t require such intense choreography.
Even with the change, their unique dance managed to headline thanks to the usage of two chairs (which has now become their trademark).
Representatives of Starship Entertainment explained, “We all wondered what prop would best bring out their bodies, and came up with the chairs. We are well aware that it became popular through Son Dambi, but we decided to give it a try anyway so two people will give it a different feel.”
They continued, “We heard people ask whether they’re luxury chairs, but they’re actually just worth $120 USD each. Our manager bought them at a furniture street in Nonhyun-dong. We have to bring in the chairs ourselves for every music program performance, so we use one extra car to put them in. Although it’s a hassle, we take care of them carefully so that they look their best on stage.”
Despite the attention, representatives of music programs are weary of both the choreography and props because of the part where Bora lifts her legs over the chair, which creates potential for accidents. Thus, they’ve asked Bora to refrain from wearing skirts.
Representatives commented, “Bora wears shorts under her skirt, but they were still afraid that it would cause an accident and asked us to put her in pants instead. She will try to wear pants on public broadcast programs, but since the performance looks best in a skirt, we will change up outfits accordingly.”

SISTAR’s new sub-unit group, SISTAR19, made their round of debuts on this week’s music promotions with their title track, “Ma Boy.” In an interview with Sports Today and Star News, the girls took the time to explain a bit about their image and what differentiates them from SISTAR.
The girls began, “‘Ma Boy’ is a song about the emotions that a 19 year old girl feels as she matures into a 20 year old. It’s because of this song that our team name includes the number 19. There definitely was pressure in having to do better as a representation of SISTAR, but our dongsengs supported us a lot through the ordeal and helped lessen some of the weight.”They continued, “Now that we’re promoting, we feel the empty spaces of our two dongsengs. It’s still kind of awkward working with back dancers on stage.”

As SISTAR, we were always known for our powerful and strong image. This time, we’re promoting a medium tempo track with a smooth melody that truly makes us feel like feminine women. It’s sexy, but also cute.”
Bora continued, “Through SISTAR19, we feel like we’re able to show a stronger color of who the two of us are. We hope to get SISTAR’s name more known through this promotion cycle.”
