4 December:

VIPs worldwide drew a sigh of relief when YG Entertainment announced earlier this week that Big Bang would be performing as five at the YG Family Concert this weekend. The quintet hadn’t performed together since Love Song promotions in April due to Daesung‘s motorcycle accidentG-Dragon‘s marijuana scandal and both members’ subsequent hiatuses from the industry this year.
In the middle of the concert, resident rapper T.O.P expressed, “It’s incredible to have all five members of Big Bang united on one stage. I’m happy to be here to celebrate YG Entertainment’s fifteenth anniversary. This has been a busy year for YG Entertainment, but you have all stayed with and supported us and we thank you.
Daesung opened up, saying, “It’s been a while since I’ve performed on the stage. I’m just grateful to be here. The difficulties I experienced gave me a chance to realize how important music and the stage are to me. I will always be grateful to be on stage.
I’m sorry for creating so much trouble due to my mistake,” G-Dragon apologized. “I’ll be careful to not have this repeat again. I think I can only express my appreciation by giving better music and performances. I’ll do my best to give my fans a big present.
Despite the hardships that Big Bang has encountered and overcome this year, it’s safe to say that fans are thrilled and welcoming the quintet back with open arms.

11 November:

Despite all of the bad press Big Bang has been receiving lately, their fame in Japan seems to know no end.
In the latest issue of a Japanese magazine, a survey was conducted asking 1,000 Japanese fans on who their favorite Hallyu artists were and the boys of Big Bang triumphantly came out on top.
Not only were they voted ‘most favorite Korean artist’, but Japanese fans showed their support by ranking them high in the categories of best vocals, dance performances, good-looks, fashion style, and ability to speak Japanese.
Members Taeyang and Daesung were voted #1 and #2 for the ‘artist with the best vocals’, Taeyang was voted #2 for ‘artist with the best dance moves’, and Seungri was also voted #2 for ‘artist who speaks Japanese fluently’.
T.O.P and G-Dragon came in at #2 & #3 for best-looking artists, and G-Dragon was voted as #1 under the ‘artist with the most fashionable style’ category.
Netizens who saw the magazine remarked, “The Japanese still love Big Bang“, “This is awesome for Big Bang to be featured on such a famous magazine“, and “Congratulations, Big Bang“.
In related news, Big Bang was recently voted best ‘Worldwide Act’ at the 2011 MTV EMA‘s.

7 November:
During this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards, MTV kept track of which artists were creating ‘buzz’ on Twitter and with the paparazzi.  Not only did Big Bang just win Best Worldwide Act award, but the group proved to be the most tweeted artists throughout the evening, coming in at #1 on the  2011 MTV EMAs Twitter Tracker.  They also managed to work their way to #2 in Paparazzi Buzz, a category tracking the number of retweets made for celebrities’ official red carpet photos on Twitter.
MTV asked, “Which EMA stars are you tweeting about? Get the buzz on who’s trending right this second!”, and tonight, that answer was Big Bang.  Over the course of the three hours of festivities, Big Bang, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and Selena Gomez each battled for overall top spot.
Roughly midway through the event, Big Bang fans were able place the beloved quintet at #1 on the tracker.  However, shortly before their victory was announced, Big Bang made it to the #1 position overall where they have stayed since then.  It looks the years of practice to get birthday and anniversary tags to trend on Twitter have paid off big for VIPs.
Prior to their win, Big Bang was interviewd by Western media on the red carpet.  Taeyang stated, “I grew up with MTV, they were always showing us alot of musiv videos and music information.”   When asked who he was most interested in seeing, G-Dragon named Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga.  Check out the full interview beloa.
Thanks to the surprisingly fast work of fans, there is now an English subbed version of Big Bang’s acceptance speech.  View it below.
Finally, here are a some pictures from the red carpet and during their win.  Fans were excited to see all the memebrs smiling brightly, there is even one with Big Bang and 2011 Global Icon Awardwinner, Queen!

5 October:

It’s just been reported that in light of G-Dragon‘s marijuana scandal, G-Dragon as well as the other members of Big Bang failed to show up for a scheduled photoshoot.
With the exception of Daesung, the members were scheduled to participate in a photoshoot for aNorth Face advertisement at a studio in Seoul. By noon, all the preparations were complete, and staff members as well as the other models were seen waiting on set.
Unfortunately, due to the breakout of G-Dragon’s scandal this morning, the Big Bang members did not turn up for the shoot.
A staff member revealed, “We’ve just received notification that today’s photoshoot will be cancelled.” It seems with the sudden breakout of the issue, Big Bang has been confined to their homes, and YG Entertainment called in to cancel their schedule.
Netizens expressed mixed reactions, ranging from, “How is this going to affect their other schedules?”, “What about all the staff members wasting their time on set?” and ”Big Bang fighting!“.

With the recent news of Big Bang‘s G-Dragon caught in a legal issue for smoking marijuana, fans can’t help but be worried about Big Bang’s future as they are arguably one of the most successful boy bands in Korea at the moment.  Without a doubt, this is the boys’ most difficult moment in their careers, as now another member of the group is forced to postpone his activities.

Back in May of this year, member Daesung was involved in a car accident which took the life of a man and ultimately had the idol temporarily leaving the music industry.  Now we have G-Dragon who has been arrested for smoking marijuana.  These boys have come a long away starting from their debut years, but 2011 seems to be their worst year.

Many of their future schedules have gone down the drain.  First off, GD&TOP were in plans to release a new single in Japan between November and December, however with the recent incident, it’s unlikely to happen.  Furthermore, G-Dragon was in the process of making a comeback with a new solo, mid October.  All of his comeback plans have been dismissed.

This isn’t the first time the group has had to pause major activities.  Prior to Daesung’s car accident, the group was in preparation for new music and concert releases.  Unfortunately, those plans were trashed when news of the idol’s accident hit media outlets.

It is apparent that Daesung took a huge loss with the unfortunate event.  Even after 5 months, there are no signs of the idol returning to the industry.  Industry Analysts have predicted that G-Dragon might have to take a long break just like his group mate.  Considering how strict the Korean government is in regards to marijuana usage, this prediction is very reasonable.

According to reports, the idol took the drug back in May and after further investigation, a hair drug test came out to be positive in July.  The idol even confessed himself that he smoked marijuana while attending a club in Japan.

On the bright side, because this was G-Dragon’s first offense, the prosecutor will not be giving him a serious charge, which means he will not be officially indicted.  Despite this, the idol has taken a huge loss all because of the usage of marijuana.
The boys’ agency, YG Entertainment is also struggling as Big Bang is their biggest source of income.  According to their annual reports, 27.98% of their total revenue for the first half of the year was from Big Bang’s concerts alone.  If you include their album sales and endorsements, it goes beyond 50% of the total revenue mark.
With the band’s temporary cease of activities, it’s no doubt that the company will have a sharp drop in revenue in the latter half of the year.  Analysts have shared that if G-Dragon gets his name blacklisted from broadcasting companies, it may be the very end of Big Bang.

25 June:

Big Bang shared their heartfelt thoughts on fellow member Daesung, who was involved in a traffic accident on May 31st.
On the evening of June 25th at Non Hyun Dong Concert Hall in Gangnam, Seoul the boys of Big Bang held a “Big Bang Mini Concert” sponsored by LG Optimus.
As member Daesung isn’t participating with any of Big Bang activities, his portion of the performances were conducted by backup dancers.
During the final performance of the show, member Taeyang stated, “Currently, Big Bang is going through a rough period but we promise to continue with great performances for all of you in the future.” Leader G-Dragon also declared, “Next time we will give you a performance with all 5 of us.

Last month, the boys of Big Bang unveiled their much anticipated MV for ‘Love Song.’ The MV had a budget near $200,000 USD and featured some great perspectives and camera angles.
