11 June:
PARIS, June 10 (Yonhap) — Five South Korean pop bands held their first concert in Paris on Friday, making a successful debut on the European stage in front of more than 7,000 eager fans.

Popular acts TVXQ, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, SHINee and f(x) put on a three-hour performance at Le Zenith de Paris concert hall, singing a total of 44 songs for the fans, who had come from all parts of Europe, including France, Spain, Italy and Poland.
About 100 teenage fans spent the night outside the concert hall on Thursday, while more than 1,000 people crowded outside the hall five hours prior to the start of the show. Even rain was not enough to drive away fans who stood waiting for the concert to start as they sang Korean pop songs and danced to their music.
“I started liking K-pop because of my daughters,” said a father, who had come with his two teenage girls, one of whom had injured her leg in a recent accident. “I like Super Junior. They dress well without being too flashy.”
The pop groups took the hall by storm as they sang and danced for the cheering and screaming of fans. The show’s organizers estimated that only about 2 percent of the audience were Koreans.
“The singers and fans came together as one and made today’s show a successful debut performance (in Europe),” one of the organizers said after the concert.

The pop bands’ Seoul-based agency, S.M. Entertainment, initially scheduled only one show for Friday, but later added another show for Saturday after tickets for the first concert sold out in 15 minutes. Hundreds of French fans rallied in front of the Louvre Museum to demand an extra show.
“I think K-pop is gaining popularity thanks to S.M.’s global system, foreign composers and choreographers, and the singers’ appearances,” saidLeeteuk, a member of Super Junior. “I think it was also helped by social networking sites, such as YouTube.”
“Most people in the audience were able to sing along to our songs even though it’s difficult to understand another’s feelings and thoughts without understanding the language, and our songs were in Korean, not French,” he said. “I think K-pop may gain popularity not only in Europe, but also in South America and Africa.”

On June 10th, the idols of SM Entertainment held a press conference right after their “SM Town Live in Paris” concert and expressed their thoughts on completing their first European concert.

Super Junior’s Leeteuk began, “It feels like just yesterday that I was listening to Jordy Lemoineand feeling entranced by his music, but now here I am exporting our own culture. I hope to write an amazing piece of history.”
TVXQ’s Yunho continued, “After seeing everyone shout ‘SM Town’, I realized that this was the flare of K-Pop culture. I’m glad that we’re able to kick it off to a great start. It still makes my heart beat.”
SNSD’s Sooyoung added, “I almost cried when I saw that fans had written ‘Thank you’ on the Korean flag. I was surprised to see them singing along to our songs, but what surprised me the most was that they even knew the cheer chants used by our Korean fans.”
f(x)’s Victoria said, “I was so proud to see everyone in the audience waving their own country’s flag.”
When asked why he thought K-Pop was so popular, Leeteuk replied, “SM has always worked to globalize our music, such as working with foreign choreographers and whatnot. I think we’re also loved for our physical and visual aspects as well. There’s a saying in Korea that the start is just half of the work, so I’m anticipating the future of Hallyu. If France wants me, I’m even willing to move here.”

On June 9th, a new episode of SBS’s “Midnight TV Entertainment” revealed the power of the increasingly global Hallyu wave that has been sweeping Europe.
K-pop has been making a large presence in France this year: on April 20th, around fifty fans from France visited Korea for SHINee’s fan meeting, confirming the group’s global popularity. Furthermore,SMTOWN Live, the first international idol group collaboration concert took place in Paris today.
When the news was revealed earlier this year, European fans went wild, with tickets selling out in a mere 15 minutes. The reactions to the announcement were explosive as interviewed fans commented, “I’m so happy! K-pop is finally here in France!“, “I am so going to get 2 tickets. I’ll die if I don’t get them”, and “It’s a dream come true. I can’t wait for it“.
“Midnight TV Entertainment” also revealed footage of a demonstration by approximately 300 fans that took place in front of the Louvre. These fans, who weren’t able to purchase tickets, performed dances from Super Junior’s “Sorry, Sorry” to TVXQ’s “Mirotic“, demonstrating the popularity of Korean idols in Europe. In response to the demand of fans in Europe and at this demonstration, a second tour date was announced soon thereafter.
The episode also reveals footage of TVXQ, SNSD, SHINee and f(x) leaving for Paris.

TVXQ emerged from the gate 30 minutes later than scheduled, but the duo, along with junior artists SHINee and f(x), were all smiles, as if the 12 hour-long flight didn’t affect them at all.
Some of the idols couldn’t hide their surprise at seeing the large crowd waiting for them, as they went wide-eyed over the spectacle.
Representatives of SM Entertainment stated, “We didn’t even think of this happening, but so many European fans came. Because of the crowd, the members weren’t able to leave the gate on time. Everyone is happy over the positive reactions SM artists are receiving as the first Korean acts in Paris.”

Following France, Peru has stepped up as the country that’s vocalized its hunger for K-pop. Peruvian K-pop fans are asking for an “SM TOWN Live Concert“, and they’ve organized an “Open an SMTOWN” flash mob to bring some attention to their wish.
Approximately 500 fans got together in Lima’s Monterrico with large signs that read “SMTOWN IN PERU”, as well as the names of their favorite K-pop artists. They sang along to SNSD and SHINee’s songs, wore SNSD’s stage outfits, and made quite the overall statement.
On May 16th, a YouTube account uploaded a video pleading SM Entertainment to bring SMTOWN to Peru. Not only did it catch the attention of local radio and media outlets, but those in Korea as well.
The YouTube uploader said in an email interview on the 17th, “The people at the flash mob are just one chunk of the K-pop fans in Peru. On the 22nd, there will be events held in Lima, Arequipa, Ica, Cusco and more. We are looking for a bigger space in Lima to have an event. I hope Korea can see how many K-pop fans are in Peru.”
The fans are also speaking out through Facebook, Twitter and other blogging sites. The “SMTOWN IN PERU” Facebook page alone has 6,000 fans.
SM Entertainment stated, “We were so touched by and thankful of the warm support of Peruvian fans from across the world. We hope there will be a chance to perform in South America and meet the fans.”

11 Mei:

The past month has been a very exciting month for fans in Europe. SM Entertainment announced in mid-April that the very first Kpop and SM Town Live concert will be performing in Europe for the first time in Paris, France on June 10th at Le Zenith de Paris. European fans were so excited that the “SM Town Live in Paris” tickets were
sold out in 15 minutes after they were released to the public. All 6,000 seats were sold out.
However, fans in Europe began to protest and wanted SM Entertainment to add another date for “SM Town Live in Paris.” Le Zenith de Paris held only approximately 6,000 seats, leaving a big amount of fans in Europe ticketless and disappointed.
The protest, held on Sunday May 1st, attracted hundreds of fans who dances and sang at the Louvre. The protest caught the attention of both local and the Korean media. As a result, SM Entertainment announced their consideration to add another concert date.
After checking their artists’s schedules, it has been officially announced that SM Entertainment has added a second tour date to “SM Town Live In Paris” for June 11th at Le Zenith de Paris!
Fans in Europe are overjoyed of the news and have said, “I’m so happy I’m jumping in joy! It’s so great! Thank you to everyone. You are incredible! Thank you,” “Bravo! I love you!,” “A million thanks!” “It’s thanks to the flashmob and everyone’s hard work. They cracked when they saw us dance,” “Too bad I can’t go to either concert…I would have loved to go!!!”
According to the “concertkpop” Facebook page, where the Paris protest/flashmob was planned, “And it is indeed June 11th, 2011, still at Le Zenith de Paris, all of us have succeeded in obtaining the 2nd date for the first real Kpop concert in Europe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Special thanks to the Director of the Korean Culture center, without whom none of this would have been possible.”
“Prepare yourselves, the seats will be available…tomorrow…And also, do not buy from scalpers!!!!”
European Kpop fans can purchase their tickets for the June 11th “SM Town Live in Paris” at www.livenation.fr, www.fnac.com, or www.ticketnet.com
It has been reported also that the June 11th tickets will most likely be postponed. Organizers are attempting to find a way for all the fans to get their tickets to the 2nd concert and limit the amount of problems fans first had in the June 10th ticket sales.
It seems that European fans efforts to gain that 2nd concert date has proved to be very successful! Since the announcement of SM Entertainment’s entry into Europe with a Kpop concert, fans all over the world began to express their hopes of a Kpop concert in their own cities, such as Mexico. International Kpop fans began to express their wishes on social network websites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Meanwhile, SM Entertainment has revealed their plans to enter South America with an SM Town Concert.

He has gained international fame for his top-notch remixes, including his famous “yearly mashups,” in which he takes the hottest songs of the year and mashes them together into one unique sounding song. According to several music industry representatives, SM Entertainment will be continuing their ‘SM Town Live World Tour‘ by heading to South America in July, making stops in Brazil, Chile, among other countries.
The reason for this South American tour is that the popularity of SM Entertainment artists in these countries has been steeply rising. In February, a Brazilian TV network held a survey regarding which Korean artist they would like to have visit their country. The top four spots were claimed by Super Junior, BoA, SNSD, and SHINee, respectively. Also, last November the Korean Cultural Industry Foundation held a survey amongst Brazilian fansregarding popular Korean singers. The results revealed that Super Junior, SHINee, BoA, and SNSD came in at 1st, joint 2nd, and 3rd place respectively.
Last month, SM Entertainment announced that they would be heading to France for their ‘SM Town Live in Paris‘ concert on June 10th. As this concert sold out almost immediately after tickets were released, the possibility of adding another day is currently being reviewed.
The ‘SM Town Live World Tour’  has already made stops in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Shanghai. By visiting both Europe and South America, this tour will become a legitimate world tour.

29 April:
SM Entertainment artists are popular around the world. Earlier we reported that the SM Town Live in Paris concert tickets were sold out within 15 minutes. Unfortunately, many fans were not able to buy their tickets to the concert. The concert will be held at Le Zenith de Paris, which only holds 6,000 seats.
French Kpop fans have begun to protest and are calling for SM Entertainment to extend the SM Town Live in Paris by adding an additional concert. Fans have created a Facebook page and are planning to hold a protest on May 1st at the Louvre Museum via a flashmob.
A representative from SM Entertainment said, “We heard about the French fans’ protest. This shows the popularity of the groups. Unfortunately, there is no plan for another concert date.”
Korean Connection, a Kpop fanclub in France, had 54 of their members visit South Korea last week. They had the opportunity to visit the SM Entertainment building, and were also able to meet SHINee.
The same Kpop fanclub, Korean Connection, left a message to European Kpop fans on April 27th and said:
Hello,
We are really happy for everyone who will be attending the first “Grand K-pop Concert” in Europe on June 10th. A historic event. Something that was unexpected at the start of this project and will soon become reality.
However, we are also sad about the way things have started out at the ticketing yesterday. We in no way were able to influence the sales and the other problems whatsoever. A lot (too many) of K-Pop fans in Europe found themselves without a ticket. It is very difficult to accept this after all the efforts and the sacrifices that we have all made to get these groups to come.
We have to show SM Entertainment to give us another chance to take better account of European fans. We can sell out (the concerts) without the Americans and the Koreans. And also without the frauds. Isn’t that so???
That is why we are proposing to you a flashmob / fan meeting next Sunday on May 1st at exactly 3PM in front of the Louvre Museum pyramid.
We will be filmed by KBS reporters.
Come by the mass with all of your board signs, your lightsticks, your fan panoplies for the possible chance of having a second (concert) date.
