A: My weak point is a ‘nothing is No.1’ thing. So I take the approach that practice and the stage are all study.

Q: Where do you want to go in Japan?
A: Hokkaido.

Q: What’s the thing that “among member, I don’t lose in this”?
A: Baby face.

Q: Do you have a trouble?
A: That I can’t speak comically on variety programs.

Q: Who do you want to become if you were born again?
A: Just me. I have something the other members don’t have, that’s why I can be here (in SJ).

A: Our members are all wolves. But to mention one, Ryeowook.

Nah, not really. The two are still good buddies. But recently, Super Junior’s Sungmin updated his blog with a funny post.

As he was perusing blogs for interesting things (perhaps he was bored), he chanced upon a funny photo and wrote,

“I was looking around blog(s) and then! Discovery~~!
Why do I like this photo~~?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
I will have to make this my phone background!ㅋㅋㅋ”

His new phone background happens to be a screencap from the Mr. Simple MV, where during the dance break, Sungmin has a fierce expression on his face and seems as if he has just slapped Eunhyuk, whose face is turned to the side. I’m amused.

Yes, you read that right. Super Junior’s Sungmin was recently inside a balloon and decided to take some selcas of himself while he was in there.

On the November 30th broadcast of cable TV E channel’s “The Best Couple“, Sungmin and his partner, Jewelry’s Eun Jung, made it to the finals round where they had to play the ‘Sky Kong Kong Game’.

The production crew released photos that Sungmin took himself while he was in a big yellow balloon. Sungmin garnered attention for the cute selcas that showed off his baby face.

Meanwhile, Sungmin and Eun Jung competed against five other teams during the finals, with some of the competitors being f(x)’s Victoria, Super Junior’s Ryeowook, and Mighty Mouth.

When it comes to young students and volunteering, Super Junior‘s Sungmin has been revealed to be a formidable figure of influence. He’s been working with the Vocational Training Center for People with Special Needs for the past four years, and it’s inspired his fans to follow in his footsteps.

An insider reported, “When Sungmin first debuted, he had a lot of younger fans who were only in elementary and junior high school. With his influence, these students have stepped in to volunteer just as he had, and now as adults, these students are continuing to offer their time with the disabled.”

Additionally, Sungmin has donated ramen and rice to the Special Needs Training Center every year, in addition to donating to the Senior Welfare Center.

His fans stated, “His mother has been volunteering with the less fortunate for the last 20 years. It explains why he takes such an interest in doing the same.”

8 July: Interview - Sungmin 'Jack the Ripper' Musical

I thought he would be snobbish since he is an idol who spread K-pop to Europe. But that was a misjudgment. Sungmin (25, real name Lee Sungmin) who smiled and said hello. I doubted whether he really was a member of idol group Super Junior who heat up France. During the interview, he carried himself like a well-mannered young person. He was serious-minded compared to his age. Sungmin has been cast as the lead character Daniel in the musical Jack the Ripper which started on the 5th. I met him on July 1 at Choongmoo art hall in Heungindong, Seoul when the musical was in its last stage of practice.

- This is your third appearance in a musical after Akilla and Hong Gil Dong.
I’m not doing this as a short stint. Except for Super Junior activity, all my individual time is spent on doing the musicals. Musicals are big part of my life.

- Why is that?
I really like singing and acting. With musicals, you get to do both at the same time. It’s also exhilarating to do a live performance each time. When I work together with sunbaes and hoobaes to create a work, I feel a shiver. The feeling of having goosebumps, I really like that. You know, I major in musical (movie-musical major, started college in 07).

- You take turns playing the lead role with Ahn Jae Wook, Uhm Ki Joon, and Lee Ji Hoon. Even if you are a K-pop star, you would have to feel the burden.
They are ahead of me in terms of acting and life experiences. Instead of forcefully trying to fill the void that I have, I am going to use my freshness to create a pure Daniel. Daniel who loves someone so purely that he has heartaches and goes insane.

- But there must be some competition.
Haha. Rather than feeling the completion, it’s more burdensome. That feeling of burden stimulates me positively. I joined the practice late because I was in Taiwan doing Super Junior activity. The musical production company sent me a video of the other actors. It was a video of Uhm Ki Joon sunbae practicing. I watched the video over and over again in Taiwan to study breathing and how to express emotion. Ahn Jae Wook sunbae came to practice even though it wasn’t his day to practice and taught me acting. Shin Sung Woo Sunbae who plays murderer Jack advised me on how to express change in emotion.

- You are known as a perfectionist who practices really hard.
(Feeling awkward) When my schedule ends, I try to go to practice instead of going straight to my dorm. Once I start something, I only focus on that one thing. I have a personality where if something is not perfect, I can’t stand it.

- What was the hardest part of acting?
The scene where I grab Shin Sung Woo sunbae by the collar (laughs). Sunbae told me to think of him as a murderer and be comfortable. But I’m not totally comfortable.

- Even though you are a singer, it must have been not easy adjusting to musical numbers.
Yeah, I get scolded a lot. I’m doing the musical and recording Super Junior’s 5th album at the same time. When I go to the musical practice, people tell me not to sing the musical number like a pop song. Afterward, when I go to the recording studio at dawn, I get yelled at for trying to sing a pop song like a musical number. Actually, it’s difficult and confusing but I have to overcome this. Haha.

- The tickets to your shows are almost sold out.
Really? If it’s true, that’s good news (laughs). I can’t help but pay attention to ticket sales. There are some people who think idol singers appearing in musicals is a bad thing so I’m really working hard.

- What’s the reaction from Super Junior members on your appearance in the musical?
Everyone congratulated me. Kyuhyun especially encouraged me the most. I don’t know if it’s because he’s currently doing The Three Musketeers.

- Ryeowook who’s your other member will make his debut in a musical with Temptation of Wolves. He said your advice helped him a lot.
Haha. He said that without meaning it. I’m not in a position to advise someone. Ah, I said this to him. “You must become close with the other actors and the staff, especially with the ensemble (actors who support song and dance of lead and supporting actors).” If the ensemble loses strength, the whole show loses its strength. Oppositely, if the ensemble gains strength, the feeling of excitement multiplies ten times. You have to become close with the people you act with so that you can gain strength when you are tired. That’s what I learned from doing musicals.

- Is there a musical that you would like to do?
There are so many of them. Romeo and Juliet, Notre Dame de Paris, Singles, Hedwig, and etc. I want to do The Three Musketeers too. When Kyuhyun said he was going to be D’Artagnan (the lead character of The Three Musketeers), I was really envious of him. When I get older, I want to play murderer Jack in Jack the Ripper.

Musical ‘Jack the Ripper’ revealed its amazing cast by surprise.

The company stated on the 11th, “Yoo JoonSang, An Jaewook, Shin Sungwoo, Um GiJoon, Kim Junhyung, Sungmin (Super Junior), Seo JiYoung, Oh JinYoung etc, many skilled actors were casted for ‘Jack the Ripper’ the Musical.

7 April:The reason why SJ Sungmin had a big fight with his manager

In KBS2 “President”, Super Junior’s Sungmin acts as Jang IIjun’s trouble-maker son. Even though it is his first time challenging acting a mature character, but he has done well with his stable acting. However when working with big sunbaes, he still feels nervous.

Received a flower basket from BLUESTAR and letters from many fans, thank you~ Most of them were written in Japanese and Hangul for my sake~
