22 June:

We always prepare something to say to the fans when we go overseas for concerts. This time we prepared and said, in French, ‘we saw photos of you guys protesting for a concert. You guys are even more beautiful in person’. I believe our friendliness in communicating with our fans is our strength” – Super Junior’s Leeteuk.
Super Junior was originally founded on the concept of ‘the gateway to Asian super stardom’, but now their fame has grown beyond to just Asia. Spreading faster day by day, their popularity is reaching over to Europe and South America, leading the ‘New Hallyu Wave’.
After a successful concert in Paris, only Leeteuk and Eunhyuk were able to meet for an interview. There’s a total of 10 members, but because of their individual busy conflicting schedules, these days the only times all 10 of them can gather together is basically for overseas concerts. The two members were busy with working for the next album, as well.
About their concert in France, Super Junior’s leader Leeteuk stated, “We were able to gain popularity in Asia with our activity in Asia, but it felt like a party of our own. But the concert in France was totally different. We definitely feel motivated”. He added, “I feel pride in that we were able to export our culture into a country that’s already strong in culture”.
A new momentum for ‘world stage’ appeared for Super Junior. Their step into the world market changed idol groups’ struggle for popularity which regularly lasts for 5 years. As they pass their 6-year mark, some appraise that they have opened new horizons in the Hallyu wave, as well as for idols, through their concert in France.
We have been doing the ‘Super Show’ concerts for the last 3 years, touring Asia. Next year, we plan to expand our grounds into Europe, South America, and even the Middle East, and go on a true ‘World Tour’. We heard that there was a movement for our concert in Turkey, too”.
They’re already superstars in Asia and their song, “Bonamana” has been number 1 on a Taiwanese music chart for 55-weeks straight (more than a year). Eunhyuk has also become the first foreigner to be seated on the permanent panel on a Taiwanese radio program. They’re not some foreign artist that a select few fans know, but they’re so known that even old ladies and little kids recognize them on the streets.
They say the fun in ice cream is the wide variety. Because we have a wide variety of members, we also have a wide fan-base. One that’s good at singing, one that’s good looking, one with good humor–our team has many different colors to show”.
Leeteuk explained that Super Junior is not simply just an idol group, but a gathering of many cultures. They create a synergy effect in a sense that what one member lacks, another member can fill the gap.
Eunhyuk picked friendliness as Super Junior’s greatest strength. Idols were mysterious beings that could only be seen on stage in the past, but idols nowadays must actively appear on show programs and work endlessly to become close to their fans. He explained that this is one of the reasons they try to show as much of themselves as they can on TV.
With social media tools such as Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook being recognized as gaining momentum for the Hallyu wave, it has become a main contributor in spreading their image world wide.
All our members use Twitter. Because there’s an automatic translator around now, we can communicate with our fans overseas instantly. I can speak a little Chinese, so I post in Chinese from time to time as well. When we were in France, I was anxious that not that many fans would show up at the airport, so I constantly posted on Twitter”.

17 June:

Asia’s top idol group Super Junior will hold a showcase in Japan next month!
On June 8th, Super Junior released their Japanese debut single BONAMANA“. The group displayed their tremendous influence as Hallyu idols by placing second on the Oricon Weekly Charts, a great accomplishment for anyone making their debut on the chart.
Additionally, the group broke the record for rookie Korean idol groups in Japan by moving 100,000 albums. This monumental achievement surprised many people in the industry.
Other K-pop artists in Japan have actively appeared on Japanese TV shows, events and the like. However, Super Junior hardly participated in any activities in Japan, yet, they’ve proven to be quite popular. Because of this, the group has been labeled, “the long distance relationship” group because of their distant relationship with Japanese fans. Fortunately for Japanese fans, things are about to change as the group has announced that they will be holding a showcase in Japan next month in July.
In addition, the group will be screening footage from their concert turned 3D movie titled, “Super Show 3 3D.” Super Junior members Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung are scheduled to attend the premiere in Japan next month.

Super Junior’s Leeteuk and Eunhyuk sat down with announcer Bae Hyun Jin for an interview on the June 14th broadcast of MBC’s “Newsdesk.” On the program, they shared their feelings about the Hallyu craze in Paris, France .

When asked if they expected a successful performance and a big response, Leeteuk answered, “Even before we went to perform, there was a protest for an additional performance. Because I heard that the tickets sold out within 10 minutes, I did have my hopes up. However, when I actually experienced it, it was really beyond my imagination.”
Eunhyuk also explained, “Seeing them sing and dance along to Korean songs… I was really surprised that the French fans memorized the different cheers for each song.”

In addition, the announcer asked what the secret is to the great success of the Hallyu craze that has even stretched as far out to Europe. Leeteuk responded, “I kind of think that maybe it fell at the perfect time. I think the French fans like the music and performance that was planned with a world-wide concept and also the visuals of the artists. I also believe that we were able to have great success through the exchanges we had with fans through social networking sites.”
He confidently added, “I think this current unseen craze is a cultural war. If we continue to spread the Hallyu culture, then Korea will become the center of the world.”
Lastly, Leeteuk stated, “I think, like athletes, we are also representatives of spreading Hallyu. We will continue to work hard to further spread awareness about Korean culture.”

Super Junior’s mega-hit, “Bonamana“, is making history on Taiwanese charts!
The song was first released last year as the title track of their fourth official album, and as of May 28th, the song still ranked as #1 on Taiwan’s biggest online music portal, KKBOX, in their ‘Top 100 weekly’ chart.
This is the 52nd week they’ve maintained their position since June of last year. Super Junior established a precedent by being the first and longest-standing artists to record consecutive rankings on the chart for a full year, making it a double achievement for the group.
While it’s wildly exciting for Super Junior to attain such formidable successes, “Sorry Sorry” also ranked #1 for 36 weeks in a row on KKBOX, as well as for 34 weeks in a row on the ezpeer+ chart.
Congratulations, Super Junior!

It is said that the recording with the Japanese lyrics back in March wasn’t much of a problem for the members and the commercial, that was actually already filmed in February, was almost done in one take, underling the professionalism and versatility of the group.
The group commented, “We hope that you will get to know as a bit more through our appearance in the commercial and our song ‘Bijin (BONAMANA)’.”
The group is also going to participate in the “The 4th K-Pop Super Live” concert in Chiba on May 15th.

24 April:f(x) Mentions Kyuhyun and Heechul in an Interview

2. Super Junior’s Kyuhyun : He’s Victoria’s best friend. When Victoria first came to Korea from China, she decided to call everyone an unni or oppa. So she also called Kyuhyun an oppa. Later, when she found out that he’s actually younger than her, she became awkward around him. Victoria said, “Kyuhyun approached me first and we became close when he joked I’m an oppa, an oppa.  Now, we have become friends. He always gives me advice and is a funny friend.”
3.  Super Junior’s Kim Heechul : Sulli’s real older brother(?).  They reveal everything to each other and are candid.  Sulli said, “I don’t know how it happened.  We trust and take care of each other.  But at the same time, we don’t cross each other’s line.  When we are in front of other people, we praise each other.  I think I have to do that for people that I like.”

13 April:Super Junior And Hangeng Score Awards

In a more positive note, Korean boy band Super Junior, sub-unit Super Junior-M, and its former member Hangeng scooped a handful of awards at the first Global Chinese Golden Chart awards held last April 9 in Taipei, Taiwan.
A purported reunion between Super Junior and Hangeng did not happen as the boy band did not attend the ceremony, opting to thank the organizers through a video message instead.
Hangeng sued SM Entertainment in 2009 and left Super Junior to start his own solo career in China. He won the lawsuit last December when a Korean court voided his exclusive contracts with SM Entertainment.
Hangeng went to the event to perform and receive his three awards: the Most Popular Rookie award, Singapore Radio 1003’s most dedicated song for “My Logo” and Best Top 20 Song for “Say No.”
On the other hand, Super Junior won the J-pop and K-pop Album of the Year for “Bonamana” while Super Junior-M won the Most Popular Group award.
