Beatles Code

3 December:

Multi-talented entertainer Eun Ji Won recently guest-featured on the latest episode of Mnet‘s ‘Beatles Code‘.
The MCs asked the Clover member which celebrity’s fame he would like to ride on, and without hesitation, Eun Ji Won replied, “Kim Jo Han“.
The MCs agreed that because of ‘I Am a Singer‘, Kim Jo Han’s status has skyrocketed as a trending singer. Seeing as how both Eun Ji Won and Kim Jo Han have been around the industry for a while, Eun Ji Won also expressed his affection for the ballad artist. “I even miss the cologne he used to wear when he promoted with Solid“, he laughed.
When MC Yoon Jong Shin asked, “Wouldn’t he do a feature for you if you asked?”, Eun Ji Won replied, “He told me he would“, which sparked the interest of the audience members. Yoon Jong Shin then proceeded to give him some very detailed advice. “The minute he said ‘okay’, you should have taken out a contract and a pen for him to sign,” he began.
If you can’t do that, you need to at least get a thumbprint!” he continued, as the audience roared in laughter.
DJ Doc‘s Lee Haneul, who also guested on the show, remarked, “I have someone I would like to collaborate with as well. I would like to work on something with Big Bang‘s G-Dragon,” immediately catching the attention of the program’s younger fans.

30 October:

The Brown Eyed Girls guested on the latest episode of Mnet’s ‘Beatles Code’, where they showed off their impressive vocal skills.
The girls picked Destiny‘s Child’s “Emotion” as the one song they could never forget. They explained, “This is a fateful song that we first practiced when we were brought together as trainees.”They also stated that since they were a vocals-focused group, they spent a lot of time practicing harmonizing with each other.
The members then launched into a live rendition of “Emotion”. Ga-InNarsha, and Jea‘s soothing harmony left the MCs in awe, while Miryo‘s rap added a touch of refinement to complete the song.
MC Yoon Jong Shin remarked with a thumbs up, “Everytime I hear you sing live, I’m always taken by surprise… You are so good. The best.”
Lee Seung Chul, who also guested on this episode, praised, “This is a team that started with a focus on vocals rather than dance. Because of this, it gives them more of a competitive edge. Later on, when 10 years, or 20 years has passed, I hope that ‘Brown Eyed Girls’ will be a name that’s still around, and will keep on performing. Along the way, a time will come when they will have established their own turf… I saw that potential today.”

23 October:

Brown Eyed Girls‘ Ga-In recently guested on the latest episode of ‘Beatles Code‘, where she revealed that comedian Park Myung Soo rejected an offer to do a duet with her.
The host asked, “Did Park Myung Soo turn down an offer to do a duet with Gain?” to which Ga-In responded, “Apparently so. SNSD‘s Jessica and Park Myung Soo did ‘Naeng Myun‘, and Park Myungsoo and I were supposed to do the winter version of the song ‘Udon‘ together. My agency proposed the idea to him, but I heard that Park Myung Soo turned it down.”
Ga-In added, “I didn’t know anything about the offer, but I suppose I still got rejected.”

The boys of Dynamic Duo (Gaeko & Choiza) who were recently discharged from the Korean military were special guests on the October 13th edition of ‘Beatles Code‘ and rated the female artists that they liked most while they were active soldiers.
When MC Yoon Jong Shin asked them, “Who are the top 5 girl groups / female artists in your opinion?”, Dynamic Duo immediately picked KARA at #5. Gaeko chose SISTAR at #4 but Yoon Jong Shin & fellow MC Yoo Sae Yoon argued that SISTAR deserved a higher rank and Gaeko instantly changed his mind and remarked that they were right.
In the end, for the top 3 they picked SNSD as #1, SISTAR at #2 and IU at #3.
After this, Gaeko suddenly remarked that SISTAR should be #1, passionately explaining why SNSD and SISTAR were equal, which evoked a lot of laughter from the audience.
Gaeko also remarked that ever since he comeback from the military, it has been hard for him to get in contact with Choiza in the evenings. Jaurim leader Lee Sun Kyu was also a guest on the show and hilariously begged them to also to please take fellow member and still-single Kim Jin Man when they go out.

30 September:

On September 29th’s episode of Mnet’s ‘Beatles Code‘, singer Sung Shi Kyung praised KARA on their outstanding fame overseas.
KARA is dominating in Japan. During the two weeks I was there, I saw them everytime I turned on the TV or walked outside,” he said.
KARA recently made a Korean comeback with their fresh new track, “Step“, and amazingly, it reached the top of Japan’s Oricon chart as soon as the song was released. They are currently the most sought-after idols for endorsements, living up to their title as one of the forefront celebrities of the current Hallyu wave. They were also chosen as the ‘most loved Korean artist’ by Japanese K-Pop fans.
It’s as if a Japanese artist were to be chosen as #1 on M! Countdown here in Korea. KARA’s fame in Japan is phenomenal,” Sung Sikyung continued.
His strong relationship with the girls was obvious, as he continued to talk about how professional KARA’s maknae Kang Jiyoung was. “She’s such a cute and innocent girl, but no one can emulate that attitude and charisma she has on stage. She’s worked really hard to become this kind of performer. She’s a pro.”

I have a photo of Seo Taiji sunbaenim holding me in his arms when I was a baby,” he said. ”I don’t remember it because I was so young, but interestingly enough I also have pictures that I took with H.O.T as well,” he continued.
Hong Jong Ku, leader of the 90s dance group NOISE also guest-starred and explained, “In the 90′s, Dong Ho’s father ran a popular magazine publishing company. It was the trendy thing for famous artists to be on the front cover of magazines back then.”
MC Yoon Jong Shin added, “I did my first magazine cover in the 90′s. That was a major outlet for artists to promote their albums back then.”

2 September:

SISTAR recently addressed the rumors about how they’re perceived as ‘iljins‘, or delinquents/gang members.
On September 1st, SISTAR made an appearance on Mnet’s ‘Beatles Code‘, where they guested alongside singer-songwriter Lee Seung Yeol, who appeared on TV for the first time since his debut.
MC Yoon Jong Shin noted how they shared similar networks, saying, “Lee Seung Yeol is friendly and not awkward with Han Dae Soo while SISTAR is friends with DJ DOC.” The SISTAR members replied, “Producer Brave Brothers [who wrote "So Cool"] fits better with rough people, rather than those with a compliant style“.
They continued, “After hanging out with the sunbaes a lot, rumors came up that we were ‘iljins’. Brave Brothers and DJ DOC may seem strong and awkward on the outside and have a bad image, but, in reality, they’re really more like caring and tender-hearted girls.
This caused MC Yoon Jong Shin and Yoon Sae Yoon to exclaim, “Do you really know them?” and “You want to show me an insulting text?“, as they joked that Brave Brothers and DJ DOC are actually violent in reality, drawing laughter.

While guesting on the September 1st episode of Mnet’s ‘Beatles Code‘, SISTAR’s Bora revealed that it was difficult to bathe because of the burns on her legs.
The incident occurred a few weeks back during KBS’s ‘Music Bank‘, when Bora accidentally tripped over the stage lights, and received minor burns on both her legs.
Bora sighed, “I can’t let water come in contact with the burns, so I’ve been only washing my upper body for the past couple days.”
Hyorin added, “The day the accident occurred, I finished rehearsing and came back to our dorm. Bora then suddenly called me over to the bathroom and asked me to ‘deung mok’ for her“, causing everyone in the studio to burst out with laughter.
‘Deung mok’ literally means ‘back’ and ‘neck’ in Korean, and is a method of washing yourself without getting your legs wet. You have to lean over, keep your back straight and parallel to the ground, and place your hands on the floor, making a position that looks almost like a bridge. Then another person would have to pour water on your back and neck, so you could keep your legs dry.
MCs Yoon Jong Shin and Yoon Se Yoon cracked up upon hearing the word ‘deung mok‘, and Yoon Jong Shin exclaimed, “I haven’t heard that term in a while!” Yoon Se Yoon also amused viewers by suddenly dancing a peculiar ‘deung mok’ dance.
Having gained the new nickname of ‘deung mok’-idol, Bora commented, “The position of ‘deung mok’ was too difficult“, and added, “Now I sit on the bathroom floor, put my feet up against the wall, wash the upper half of my body, then wash my legs with a wet towel.

1 September:
On the September 1st episode of Mnet’s ‘Beatles Code‘, feature guests SISTAR shared some interesting stories with its viewers.

One of the MCs Yoon Jong Shin asked Soyu, “Were you a trainee for 4minute?”, and the idol answered, “I was originally supposed to debut as a member of 4minute, but instead debuted as a member of SISTAR.
When the MC asked a somewhat sensitive question regarding who she thought replaced her spot in 4minute, Soyu hesitantly replied, “It had already all been decided, but I think I didn’t make it into the group because I was lacking in many ways and the agency stated, ‘She’s going to have to do it next time’…”
When Yoon Jong Shin pursued his original question by asking, “Were they originally supposed to have five members?”, she replied with a shy laugh, “Yes“, and added, “I was originally supposed to be in the maknae member’s place…”, referring to Sohyun, the youngest member of 4minute.
The MCs Yoon Jong Shin and Yoon Se Yoon finished off the story by commenting, “4minute and SISTAR have both done well. But it’s a good thing that you became a member of SISTAR right?”, to which Soyu and Hyorin both proudly exclaimed, “Of course!”, showing their affections toward their group.
We’re sure fans couldn’t imagine a SISTAR without Soyu!

25 August:
On August 25th, Mnet’s midnight variety show, “Beatles Code“, hosted guest appearances from Super Junior’s Shindong and Donghae, who revealed that being cute can be too much of a good thing.

Shindong began, “If Donghae and I ate alone together, it would be weird.” Piqued by this unusual statement, especially since they’ve been groupmates for seven years, the audience craned for Donghae’s explanation.
Donghae replied, “It’s not weird at all — I just show a lot of aegyo towards Shindong.” He continued, “When we were shooting a drama in Taiwan, I was shocked to hear that Shindong said we were awkward.
Shindong defended, “When we’re all together and Donghae acts cute, it’s ok, but when it’s just the two of us together and he acts cute, it’s awkward.”
Hearing the two squabble back and forth, MC Yoo Saeyoon suggested, “Maybe its because of Donghae’s aegyo (that Shindong feels weird).”
Amusingly, Donghae revealed that “Leeteuk also feels awkward when I act cute,” causing the studio to laugh. Maybe Donghae should save his charms for the ladies, who certainly won’t feel awkward by any means!

29 July:
On July 28th, project duo M&D guested on Mnet’s ‘Beatle’s Code‘ and expressed their disappointment on their dismal performance on the digital music charts.

The two were asked about their goals for the year, to which they replied, “We want to win a ‘Daesang’ for digital sales under M&D.”
After finding out that the two were actually ranked in 836th place on the day of the broadcast, the MCs asked in disbelief, “Does that apply all over the world?” Kim Heechul replied, “No, we’re just ranked 836th in Korea. We’re still ninth in Taiwan.  I think we should just advance overseas.”
He continued, “Our Super Junior fans keep up with my activities, so I’m anticipating a lot for our upcoming album. The same goes for the Trax.”
Having disbanded M&D earlier this week, Heechul will be making a comeback with Super Junior on next month with “Mr. Simple“.

14 July:

Though it is true that Krystal of f(x) has gotten some flack previously for not showing an upbeat “idol” attitude at all times, it appears that there are some people who appreciate her genuine personality. Senior singer, composer, and entertainer Yoon Jong Shin commented on her unique character on the most recent episode of Mnet’s Beatles Code.
When f(x) were asked who was the representative member on variety shows, they all voted Krystal. Yoon Jong Shin commented that he had been on a variety show with Krystal before, and stated,“Ironically, I think she would be good on variety shows. When it’s boring, she’ll be bored, when she doesn’t want to hear something, she’ll put her head down, I think this is entertaining. It’s exactly the style I like.”

Host and comedian Yoo Se Yun apparently fell in love with Krystal’s chic personality as well as he stated, “Since opening, she’s stared at her own shoes,” explaining that he was surprised at the way Krystal did her own thing. He went on to say, “She just gave me a look that I should stop it. I think she’s going to rip up the script in a bit. Don’t tell your Dad on me. I’m sorry!” causing laughter in the studio.
Viewers of the show commented, “At first I didn’t like it, but the more I see her flaws, the more cute it is,” “Her genuine reactions are addictive,” and “I laughed so hard because of Yoo Sae Yoon.”

22 Mei

4minute’s maknae Kwon Sohyun stunned the public when she revealed that she originally debuted with an young girl group called ‘Orange‘.

Orange originally debuted back in 2005, and was comprised of grade school girls.
While guesting on Mnet’s music talk show, ‘Beatles Code’, Sohyun confessed that she entered the music industry when she was in 5th grade, at the age of 12.
Unfortunately, she gave up halfway because of the pain she experienced due to harsh criticisms.
She said, “I tried not to become a singer. Since it was a primary school girl group, the envy and jealousy of my classmates peaked. There was even an internet anti-cafe, so I was very hurt by that. I couldn’t get along with my classmates except for my closest friends, and I’ve also been made an outcast before.
Continuing, she then explained how she got into 4minute. “(After ending activities as a singer) I saw one of my seniors in middle school debut as a singer. At that time, she and I were compared a lot, and my heart hurt greatly because she was being thought of as this person who was just starting out with great potential, and I was this failure. Because of this, I started going around to auditions.
Additional details on Sohyun’s confession can be found through ‘Beatles Code’ on the 19th.
