On July 7th, the ‘2011 Mnet 20’s Choice Awards‘ was held at the Sheraton Walkerhill swimming pool in Seoul, amidst bad weather as it rained heavily.
Inaugurated in 2007, the ‘Mnet 20’s Choice’ has been the only Korean awards ceremony held in the summer, where top stars are recognized with awards and put on special performances for fans.
The hosts for this evening were Song Joong Ki and Suzy.

Mnet has finally released their first official video teaser for their upcoming “20’s Choice” Awards!
As seen in the video, the “20’s Choice” Awards will take place on Thursday, July 7th at 6PM KST at the Sheraton Walker Hill Swimming Pool. The show has a great lineup of artists, including f(x), SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong and a special collaboration between project group M&D and UV.
The show will also be broadcast live through Mnet’s official Youtube Channel (youtube.com/mnet)with live updates on their official English Twitter, @20schoice.

As “20’s Choice Awards” picks the hottest stars in every field, it’s the ceremony that top stars want to be recognized for as it signifies that they swept the hearts of the public for the first half of 2011.
Who will be chosen as the hottest stars of 2011?
The awards are broken down into 20 categories and the winner for each category will be formulated from a survey of people in their 20s (50%), a professional judge panel (20%), and online polls (30%).
The winners are yet to be chosen, but by looking at the current results from online polls, fans can estimate who the honorable winners may be; however since the online polls only weighs 30% of the whole process, there’s a good probability the ultimate result could be different.
Let’s look at the current online poll results below.
Leading the ‘Male Drama Star‘ poll by a huge margin, the hottest star of 2011 is likely to be Cha Seung Won, who played Dok Go Jin in “The Greatest Love”, capturing the female hearts watching the drama. As of July 1st, Cha Seung Won is leading the poll with more than 130,000 votes, where Lee Min Ho is following behind in distant 2nd place with about 79,000 votes.
The soaring popularity of Cha Seung Won is shown as he is leading the ‘Hottest Six-Pack‘ poll, as well.
In the ‘Female Drama Star‘ poll, Yoon Eun Hye, who is starring in, SBS’s ‘Lie To Me’ is leading with the number 1 position with more than 260,000 votes. Gong Hyo Jin is following closely at 2nd place with more than 220,000 votes. For the category of ‘Movie Star‘, Kang So Ra, who starred in, “Sunny“is leading.
As for idol groups, 2PM is leading the ‘CF Star‘ poll, where as miss A is leading for ‘New Star’. TVXQleads in ‘Performance‘, and finally, Big Bang along with f(x) are competing for the top spot in the ‘Trend Musician‘ poll.
MBC ‘Infinity Challenge’’s Jung Hyung Don tops the ‘Variety Star‘ poll with his ‘crazy existence’.“BalleriNO” of KBS 2TV’s ‘Gag Concert’ is at the lead of the ‘Best Gag’ poll, in which the top comedy corner is selected.
In ‘Sports Star‘, English Premier League’s ‘Blue Dragon’, Lee Chung Yong is leading the poll while G.NA is leading the ‘Hottest S-Line’ poll.
SNSD’s Seohyun is the top ‘Campus Goddess‘, where as Jung Il Woo is the ‘Trendy Guy‘.
f(x)’s Pinocchio is leading the ‘Online Song‘ poll, G-Dragon is currently the top ‘Style Icon‘, and2PM is leading both ‘Hallyu Star‘ and ‘Pocari Sweat Hot Balance Star‘ polls.
‘20’s Voice‘, the poll created by the people in their 20’s themselves shows that UV is leading the poll, proving their popularity with the generation of people in their 20’s.
The online polls will officially close on July 6th.

30 June:It was recently announced that this year’s Mnet’s “20’s Choice” Awards will be streamed live worldwide on YouTube!
The “2011 Mnet 20’s Choice” Awards is set to take place this coming July 7th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM KST at the Walkerhill River Park in Seoul, hosted by actor Song Joong Ki and miss A’s Suzy. Both the blue carpet entrance and the awards show will be broadcast live on channels Mnet, KM, tvN, OnStyle, XTM, and On Gane Net, as well as Mnet’s official Youtube channel.
On June 30th, Mnet confirmed, “We plan to stream the 2011 Mnet ’20’s Choice’ Awards worldwide through out official Mnet YouTube channel (youtube.com/mnet).”
The producer of the awards show added, “The worldwide popularity of K-pop is influenced mostly by social networking sites. We’ve decided to synchronize with this currently hot trend and broadcast the show live to all Hallyu fans worldwide.”

The producer of “20’s Choice” confirmed, “The unconventional group UV will be standing on stage together with the recently formed project group, M&D, for Mnet’s ’20’s Choice Awards’ this coming July 7th. M&D, SM Entertainment’s newest project unit featuring Super Junior’s Kim Heechul and Trax’sKim Junmo, have confirmed that they’ll be performing at Mnet’s summer awards ceremony, “20’s Choice“!
Producers revealed, “Because M&D will be performing for the first time through ’20’s Choice’, we’re paying special attention to their stage. f(x) is also performing at the ceremony for the first time, so we’re preparing the best stage possible to bring out their charms.”
The ceremony is widely known for accurately representing the youth culture, and it features a ton of things to enjoy and watch like the blue carpet event, outdoor pool scenery, and sexy summer dress codes. Fans can definitely expect something extraordinary for M&D and f(x)’s first “20’s Choice” outing.

Mnet’s “20’s Choice” is gearing up for their 5th annual summer awards ceremony this year. For the 20 days leading up to the event, they’ve brought in cultural figures to speak on the importance of treasuring your youth.
First up was actor Kim Kab Soo, and following up are 2AM’s Jo Kwon, Supreme Team, andB2ST’s Kikwang.
Jo Kwon chose ‘Individuality’ as the most important aspect to develop in your 20’s, and explained, “I think I’ve created my own style as ‘kkap Kwon’ despite having debuted in a ballad group. From my hairstyle to my high-toned voice, my thinness and even my dancing style all belongs to me. I think everyone has their own individual charm, and it’s just a matter of discovering that and bringing it out.”
Kikwang chose ‘Body’ as the most important part of your 20’s. “What I mean by that is developing your consistency and level of concentration and commitment to something. To build that, why not work out and tone your body? Any exercise that’s good for your health really helps create passion and energy. I hope that people will become healthier inside and out.”
Meanwhile, E-Sens and Simon D chose ‘Style’. The duo said, “Sticking to your own style is important, regardless of what others think. When people were against me shaving my head and Simon D speaking in his dialect, you just have to stick to your guns and turn it into something of your own.”

The ceremony will kick off with a special “Make Your 20’s” interview segment, which features stars giving messages of hope and support for those in their 20s. Starting May 27th, cultural figures such as ballerina Kim Joo Won, Kim Tae Won, Bang Shi Hyuk, and many others will give their own words of wisdom in the 20 days leading up to the event.
First up is actor Kim Kab Soo of the popular sitcom show, “All My Love“. His words of wisdom read, “When I was 20, I couldn’t afford a blanket so I ripped off my curtains and covered myself with that. Every morning, I’d wake up to stick posters on the streets, but even amidst such circumstances, my passion for life was the strongest ever. To those in their 20s, please don’t lose determination and overcome your obstacles with passion.”
