2 October:

On October 1st,  KBS 2TV‘s ‘Declaration of Freedom Saturday- Immortal Song 2‘ featured After School member, Raina who revealed some disappointments she experienced while promoting activities with After School.
Before her performance of “I want to know” by Lee Sun Hee, she had a brief interview where she began with, “I really wanted to participate in this program.”
She continued, “There are a lot of members in our group.  I’ve really worked hard even to the point where I felt I was going to vomit blood because I sang so much.  However, at times it felt like the camera was only on UEE unnie, and I did feel a little discouraged.  That’s why I’ve always wanted to deliver a song with my voice alone.”
Right before her performance, the idol said, “I hope my song gets delivered to everyone in a good way.”  The audience was completely mesmerized by her emotional rendition of the song, which the idol sung flawlessly.

Not only that, but they’ll also receive priceless pointers and tips from the original artists of the songs they cover.

4 September:

Breakdancer Jay Park has lost to ballad crooner Huh Gak in a dance-off during KBS‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘!
On September 3rd’s episode, Super Junior‘s Kyuhyun, MBLAQ‘s G.O, Jay Park, Huh Gak,SISTAR‘s Hyorin, and 4minute‘s Jiyoon divided up into teams to battle in friendly competitions.
On this day, there was a bitter battle between dancers and ballad singers. The more performance-based Jay Park, Hyorin, and Jiyoon formed the dance team, whereas the more vocal-based Kyuhyun, G.O, and Huh Gak formed the ballad team.
The ballad team faced trouble from the beginning, as their opponents possessed abilities to not only impress with their visuals, but with their vocals as well. But the results of the competition was a complete shut-out: G.O, Huh Gak, and Kyuhyun won all three of their respective competitions, achieving an all-kill on the show. The top award went to Kyuhyun, who put together a collaborative performance with his sister.
Earlier, Jay Park had boasted, “I have confidence to win against anybody I’m matched up with.” He was shocked, therefore, when he found out that Huh Gak beat him with his secret dance skills.
Jay Park had suggested a b-boy battle, and at MC Shin Dong Yup‘s request, attempted to kill Huh Gak’s confidence by performing the windmill.
But there was a huge twist at the end. Huh Gak hesitantly walked onto the stage and then stunned everyone when he performed a head spin. As it turns out, Huh Gak had experience as a b-boy back in grade school. Huh Gak explained he gave up dancing after gaining massive weight, to which Jay Park replied, “My pride is hurt because I lost to Huh Gak hyung in both dancing and singing”.

Jay Park recently made a lyrical mistake while singing ‘With You‘ by Nam Jin in front of the artist himself. Nam Jin starred as the 8th legendary singer for the September 3rd broadcast of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘.
On this day, Jay Park felt a little embarrassed over his error, but Nam Jin kindly said, ”I think if you work on your accent, then it would be good. However, the feeling that you put in to the song was spectacular.
Shin Dong Yup also helped stem the possible fallout from Jay Park’s mistake when he commented, “I think it’s because he got the lyrics wrong that I was able to connect with it even more.
Meanwhile, on this episode, Kyuhyun won the competition by performing alongside his violist sister.

Not only that, but they’ll also receive priceless pointers and tips from the original artists of the songs they cover.
This week’s mission was different from the norm in that the contestants each chose a dance or ballad track that they had the most confidence in.
Kwon Jae Young PD said, “We did not decide on a specific concept. We asked the singers what song they would like to sing, and each of the songs they chose were all very great.”

On the September 3 episode of ‘Immortal Song 2: Sing the Legend’, Jay Park did exactly what he did best during the first round — a bboy themed dance battle! Naturally Jay Park’s breakdancing moves attracted a lot of attention.
Jay Park excited the crowd by performing to Deux’s “Turn Around and Look At Me” with acrobatic movements including a back jump.
In an interview before he took stage, Jay Park confidently stated, “My own color, passion for music, and a powerful stage performance is what I want to show on ‘Immortal 2′, today I think I could do that.”
The other idol singers on ‘Immortal Song 2′ also choose Jay Parks performance as the most anticipated act on the show.

This week’s episode of KBS 2TV’s “Immortal Song 2″ will see Super Junior’s Kyuhyun perform on stage alongside his older sister and violinist, Cho Ara.

For his performance, Kyuhyun will be singing Jun Ram Hee’s “A Study of a Memory”, which will be accompanied by the soothing melody of his older sister’s violin. Cho Ara has been playing the violin for close to 20 years now, and recently completed her international studies in Vienna to become a professional musician.
Kyuhyun revealed, “I’ve never stood on stage with my nuna before, so the thought of being able to perform with her gave me strength.”
Meanwhile, this week’s episode will also show Jay Park’s b-boying skills as he sings to Deux’s “Reflecting On Myself”, while 4minute’s Jihyun performs “Coming Of Age” by Park Ji Yoon.

26 August:

KBS’s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ will be going through drastic cast changes once again!
Earlier, we revealed that SISTAR’s Hyorin would be leaving the show due to a hectic personal schedule. Unfortunately, it looks like she’ll be joined in her exit by Super Junior’s KyuhyunMBLAQ’sG.O, and Jay Park. The idols will leave the show after their final recording on August 29th.
The idols enjoyed a boost in their popularity thanks to their strong performances on stage. Hyorin placed first several times on the show and has earned the nickname, “Korea’s Beyonce“, due to her outstanding talent. Her fame brought in an explosive amount of attention for SISTAR’s new album.
Similarly, G.O also showed off his talent as MBLAQ’s lead vocalist, and he even received the praise, “G.O’s Re-discovery“, through the program.
Meanwhile, Jay Park will be departing for the States to prepare for his new album.
As for Kyuhyun, his busy activities with Super Junior have made it impossible to stay on the show. These idol singers are working hard to produce new albums, participate in variety shows, prepare for overseas advancements, and/or meet their promotional schedules, so it’s no wonder they’ve decided that they could no longer fit ‘Immortal Song 2′ into their planners.
As for replacements, Go Min Goo PD had previously hinted that f(x)’s Luna would be joining the cast. Go Min Goo PD had stated, “Kyuhyun was added first, and Luna will join ‘Immortal Song 2′ around late August. As power female vocalists, Luna and Hyorin’s match will be quite a sight.
Huh Gak will remain on the show, and ‘Immortal Song 2′ plans to recruit new members to their line-up. The production team is currently preparing specials to add an exciting twist to the program.

Unfortunately, it seems that with Hyorin’s early departure, the match between Luna and Hyorin will not be possible. Still, it’s feasible that Luna will join the program regardless, and may even take Hyorin’s spot as the next female songstress on the program.
In an another update, it was revealed that 4minute’s Jiyoon will also be leaving.

25 August:

It’s being reported that SISTAR’s Hyorin has pulled out of KBS 2TV’s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ today due to scheduling conflicts. Her last recording for the competitive program will be on August 29th.
Hyorin has received much praise for her singing prowess and her stage charisma during her involvement with ‘Immortal Song 2′. Her husky, powerful voice has earned her the title of “Korea’s Beyonce“.
A representative from MBC’s popular competitive singing program, ‘I Am a Singer‘, stated, “She’s the idol singer I most want on the show. As someone who works for the television industry, you can’t help but want this gem.” Because ‘I Am a Singer’ is generally targeted towards veteran singers, it’s all the more impressive that Hyorin was considered.

On August 20th, KBS’s idol singing show ‘Immortal Song 2‘ aired its ‘Best Friends Special’ where contestants were asked to invite their best friends to join them on stage.
With the concept of ‘going on vacation with your best friend‘, viewers got to see stars with their celebrity friends. Jay Park invited labelmates Jang HyukKim Soo Ro, and Solbi, while Super Junior’sKyuhyun invited his SM labelmate Kim Min Jong4minute’s Jiyoon brought in actor Gong Hyun Jin, and MBLAQ’G.O. brought in actress Jo Yeo Jung. As for SISTAR’s Hyorin, she invited Music Bank MC Hyun Woo while Huh Gak invited actress Lee Si Young.
The audience responded with cheers at the arrival of the unexpected guests.
G.O. and Jo Yeo Jung performed a cover of Cho Yong Pil’s “Let’s Go On A Vacation” in matching sky blue and white couple outfits. The two singers even came up with a choreography but had some trouble keeping up in time with each other.
Kyuhyun and Kim Min Jong performed The Blue’s “Together With You“. The two whipped out sunglasses mid-performance and incorporated Super Junior’s “Sorry Sorry” dance moves into their stage. The two said, “We didn’t have much time to perform and came up with the dance only today.”
Hyorin and Hyun Woo covered J.Y. Park’s “Don’t Leave Me“. While Hyorin hit the high notes, singer-turned-actor Hyun Woo impressed the audience with his low-toned voice. When Hyun Woo forgot the lyrics mid-performance, Hyorin clarified, “We didn’t have enough time to practice. I had to leave mid-practice so Hyun Woo had to practice on his own as well.”
Jay Park, Jang Hyuk, Kim Soo Ro, and Solbi amped up the audience with their cover of Jinusean’s “Tell Me“, while Jiyoon and Gong Hyun Jin continued the trend by singing Lee Moon Se’s “Living In This World“. Huh Gak and Lee Si Young performed a cute dance to Two Two’s “1 and 1/2“.

6 August:

After two weeks of ‘legendary’ specials, KBS2TV’s “Immortal Song 2” returned to its usual cast on August 6th. On this episode, the idols teamed up with their sunbaes to determine the best idol.
Six teams competed in total and they are as follows: Koo Jun Yup & Jun Jiyoon (4minute), Moon Hee Jun & Jay ParkKan Mi Youn & G.O. (MBLAQ), Son Ho Young & Kyuhyun (Super Junior),DJ DOC & Hyorin (SISTAR), and Noise’s Hong Jong Koo & Huh Gak.
The contest’s theme for today’s episode was to cover the original idols’ hit tracks. A representative from the show expressed, “The original idols and idols of these days are coming together on stage. The old and new idol teams will perform to determine the best performance. People will get to see a variety of charms and see sides of the singers they have not seen before.
Moon Hee Jun and Jay Park sang “Candy” as they pulled off the song’s famous and adorable choreography. Koo Jun Yup and Jiyoon sang “Me (난)”, showing off their charisma in black suits and sunglasses, whipping up a great fevour with the dance techno pop stage.
——
Kan Mi Youn and G.O. put on a sexy stage as they sang Baby VOX’s “Killer” with a tango feel. Judging by their performance, one could tell that they practiced a lot for their stage. Meanwhile, DJ DOC and Hyorin sang “Love, I Still (사랑을 아직도 난)“. This was a song that could only be heard at DJ DOC concerts, so it was definitely a treat for everyone.
——
Son Ho Young and Kyuhyun sang “Lie“, both proving their amazing vocal abilities and receiving a very positive reaction from the audience. Finally, Huh Gak performed “You Wanted” with Hong Jong Koo.

Today’s episode also saw the implementation of a new judging system. The old setup had two singers compete against each other, with the audience voting on the more superior performance. The singer who gained the most votes would move onto the next round to face off against another contestant.
Instead of this method, the new modified rules will split the contestants into pairs; from these pairs, three winners will emerge and the audience must choose a grand winner from this ‘top 3′.

31 July:

This week, KBS’ ‘Immortal Song 2′ had another drop in the ratings, as did its partner show ‘SECRET’.
Viewing research performed by AGB Nielson Media revealed that both shows combined only managed to reach a 6.2% rating nationwide. Compared to last week, the ratings were 1.5% lower, as last week’s episode managed to snag 7.7% nationwide. Having maintained 7% ratings for two weeks, it is disappointing that the ratings fell by over 1%.
The main factor for the low ratings is the popularity of its competitors.  MBC’s ‘Infinity Challenge’aired its long-awaited rowing competition episode, which managed to attract a nationwide rating of 16.1%, a significant rise from last week’s 14.4%.
Other shows in the same time slot,  MBC’s We Got Married and SBS’ Star King, are also proving to be very fierce competition for ‘Immortal Song 2′.
Let’s hope the ratings will make an improvement next week, with new contestants and modified rules.

30 July:

KBS’s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ has been known as an idol singing program ever since it made its comeback, but producers of the show have revealed that going forward, they will no no longer limit the show to just idols.
KBS director Jun Jin Guk recently met with reporters and explained, “‘Immortal Song 2′ earned attention for being a song battle between idols, but from here on out, we don’t want to limit ourselves to idols.”
He continued, “We don’t want to put the emphasis on ‘idols’, rather we want to bring back past hits and legendary songs. It shouldn’t matter who joins the show – we want to effectively teach viewers about past hits.”
With the recent addition of 4MEN’s Shin Yong Jae and Huh Gak, the show has been gradually bringing in non-idol singers. “The contestants are in their 20’s, so the producers are also working on broadening that.”

This time, viewers will see Lyn, Lim Jeong Hee, Seo In YoungLee Hae Ri, Dana, Choi Jin Ee, and Jang Hye Young compete against each other as they cover songs from Shin Seung Hun.
Shin Seung Hun himself participated in the program as the ‘legend’, and he expressed during a pre-interview that he had high expectations from Lyn.
Compared to the other singers, she utilizes her breathing very well. She has the exceptional ability to control her vocal cords and play with songs,” he said.
Lyn dediced to sing Shin Seung Hun’s “Mother“, and she reportedly delivered a performance that paid homage to the original feel of the song. She even learned the dance routine that went with the song!
Meanwhile, Lim Jeong Hee and Lyn stated in their pre-interviews that the singer they were most looking forward to was Seo In Young, who chose to sing “Like That First Feeling“. They said “We’re really looking forward to seeing what kind of performance she will show.”
CSJH’s Dana confessed that she felt full of fear after receiving advice from former ‘Immortal Song 2′ contestants, Super Junior’s Yesung and SHINee’s Jonghyun. They said, ”I even showed tears. Fighting!“, adding extra pressure onto Dana to hit the performance right on.
But apparently Dana had nothing to fear after all, for she sang “Don’t Make Me Cry” so perfectly that it was hard to believe she even had worries. Afterwards, she stepped off-stage and started crying as she embraced her fellow CSJH member Sunday, shocking everyone around her.
Sunday comforted Dana with the words, “Out of everyone I’ve seen, you were the best and most amazing singer“. Smiling, Dana commented later that “For myself, this was a particularly special stage“.

15 July:
This week, KBS 2TV’s “Immortal Song 2″ recorded a ‘Summer Vacation’ special episode, where eight of the nation’s top solo artists took on the stage to compete against each other for the top spot.

The studio consisted of a total of 30 media outlets and 500 judges in the audience, with a majority of them being middle aged and older. This came to a surprise for the producers, as it proved the growing popularity of the program in these past few weeks.
Artists who participated on the night include Kim Tae Woo, Wheesung, Hwan Hee, Lee Jung, K.Will, SG Wannabe’s Lee Suk Hoon, Norazo’s Lee Hyuk, and musical actor Im Tae Kyung.Regular cast members did not make an appearance for this week’s special recording.
The theme of the contest was ‘Korea’s Legendary Pop Songs Top 100′. The songs performed by each of the artists were selected by the singers themselves, with special judges being broadcaster Lee Sang Byuk and music critic Kang Hun.
PD Kwang Jae Young stated, “We’re confident with this week’s stage recordings. You can look forward to watching it.”
The first contestant of the night was SG Wannabe’s Lee Suk Hoon, who sang Baek Sul Hee’s“Spring Days Are Going”. For this special performance, Lee Suk Hoon stepped out of his usual role in SG Wannabe to truly let his own unique colors and voice stand out.
Hwan Hee went up on stage next, where he performed a vocally strong cover of Park Il Nam’s “Pure Heart of Reed“, followed up by Kim Tae Woo’s rendition of “The Girl With Red Shoes”.
The fourth and fifth performances of the show were K.Will’s “Tears of Mokpo” and Im Tae Kyung’s “Lady Camellia”. After Im Tae Kyung’s performance, judge Lee Sang Byuk expressed, “I felt like I was watching a part of a musical.”

Lee Jung then carried his guitar on stage to perform a soft acoustic cover of “Chungpodo Love“. Meanwhile, Wheesung wowed the crowd with his powerful dancing and rap skills in his own arrangement of “Man of the Yellow Shirt”.
The lucky last performance of the night was Lee Hyuk, who walked on stage with a leather jacket and pants and performed an impressive rock rendition of “Kick The Moon”, making the crowd pumped with adrenaline.
After the recording, a few of the audience members expressed their satisfaction, saying, “It was impressive to see songs of the older generation being revived by voices of the younger generation”, “I was so absorbed in their performances that the 3 hours flew right by”, and “I was half in doubt, but now I admire the singers’ talents.”
The ‘Summer Vacation’ special is set for broadcast this coming July 23rd.

KBS2TV’s “Immortal Song 2” will be moving it’s airing time slot for “Freedom Declaration Saturday“.
The show’s PD Go Min Goo stated on the 8th, “Usually, ‘Secret‘ airs before ‘Immortal Song 2′. However, it will now be ‘Immortal Song 2′ airing first followed by ‘Secret’.”
The show has faced trouble in the ratings department due to the fact that it shares the same time slot with two popular programs: MBC’s “Infinity Challenge” and SBS’s “Star King“.
The PD added, “We want it to be the first variety program that airs on Saturdays to really gather the viewers. The time will be fixed at 85 minutes together. We want to let the viewers know that the show will be on at 6pm.”
When asked whether they changed the time slot to stray from the same time slot as “Infinity Challenge”, he responded, “No, that’s not it. Rather than changing it because of the other networks, we changed it to strengthen the competition within the show.”
The show will now air at 5:50PM beginning on the 9th.

KBS 2TV’s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ will be airing a ‘Legend Special’ featuring eight of Korea’s best male vocalists.

The PD of ‘Immortal Song 2′, Go Min Gu, revealed to Star News on July 1st that “Kim Tae Woo,K.WillWheesungSG Wannabe’s Lee Suk HoonHwanhee, Norazo’s Lee HyukLee Jung, and musical actor Lim Tae Kyung will be starring in our ‘Male Vocalist’ episode“.
Go Min Gu PD stated “Last year, ‘Gayo Mu Dae‘ selected ‘100 Songs that Koreans Love‘ for their 25th anniversary. These eight singers will each be singing and competing with a classic oldie off this list“.
Since the cast for the special episode are all venerated singers, the competition will be based off a single performance from each of them.
Go PD explained “Even though the concept for ‘Immortal Song 2′ is about idol singers competing against each other, our show’s title expresses that there’s something more important than that. It’s the ‘Song’ in ‘Immortal Song‘. We are not straying away from our original concept, rather, we are taking this opportunity to really show a unique color of our own“.
He also added, “All the singers happily agreed to participate, so there’s a lot of enthusiasm. Our production crew also has high expectations. We think that the viewers will be able to see another charm to ‘Immortal Song 2′ apart from idol singers competing.
The ‘Male Vocalist’ special will be filmed on July 11th, and is scheduled to air on the 23rd.

SECRET’s Ji Eun revealed on KBS’s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ that her parents very much opposed to her becoming a singer.

In the most recent recording, she sang “My Life is Mine”, originally sung by Min Hae Kyung.
Ji Eun shared that the story presented in the song’s lyrics was similar to her own. She stated, “I started pursuing music in high school. My parents strongly objected my singing career so I had a lot of trouble. I heard this song and there were so many things I related to, so I decided to choose it.”
She added that she had really wanted to rebel against her parents during those days.
Although the track was a hit in 1990 that topped the charts for four consecutive weeks, it was ultimately banned due to its lyrics being about teenagers living their own life without listening to their parents.
Ji Eun successfully completed her version of the song for her last performance on the show. The episode is scheduled to air on July 2nd.

28 June:

On June 25th, MBLAQ’s G.O. sang a cover of Yang Soo Kyung’s ‘Love Is A Cold Temptation‘ onKBS2’s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ and received much praise for his impressive performance.
His choice of song was due to the week’s theme of “Top 10 Songs of 1992.” After singing the oldie, he received a positive response from both viewers and other idol contestants on the show — those of which included 2AM’s Changmin2PM’s JunsuSistar’s Hyorin, and F.T.Island’s Hongki
However, he placed 5th on the show among the other six idols.
During the filming, there were 200 audience members who cast their votes for the singers. While G.O. ranked in the bottom on the show, he was highly praised by netizens on the internet after the show was broadcast. In fact, in a certain internet survey, G.O. was recently voted as the “Best Idol” among netizens, so G.O. certainly shouldn’t feel any disappointment about his lower ranking.
A representative of ‘Immortal Song 2′ said after the show, “G.O. chose an oldie from Min Hae Kyungfor the second round and surprised the set even more with his vocal skills. Those results were reflected in his rankings. During the first round, it was G.O.’s first time being on the show. Also, his popularity in comparison with the other artists has nothing to do with the rankings. The response from the audience on site can be less than expected at times… However, seeing that the TV audience were immersed in his performance, it seems as if viewers have fallen in love with G.O.’s charms.”
What do you think of his last performance? Are you looking forward to his future performances?
