We’ve got the three regular shows being recapped for this week — ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘ (starring Shin Se Kyung and Jang Hyuk) and ‘Man of Honor‘ (starring Park Min Young and Chun Jung Myung), as well as tvN‘s romantic comedy, ‘Flower Boy Ramyun Shop‘ (starring Jung Il WooLee Chung Ah, and Lee Ki Woo).

This week we saw the finale of ‘Flower Boy Ramyun Shop’ and SBS‘s ‘Thousand Day Promise‘ (starring Su Ae and Kim Rae Won) as each show both scored high in their respective ratings field. While tvN’s ‘Flower Boy Ramyun Shop’ broke their own record with a 3.54% rating, ‘Thousand Day Promise’ came out triumphant with a ratings of 19.8%. However, the competing dramas, were also able to take advantage and find an increase in the ratings, especially KBS‘s ‘Brain‘ with a 13.1% mark andMBC‘s ‘Light and Shadow‘ with a 10.6% mark.

As ‘A Thousand Days Promise’ aired its finale this week, ‘History of Salaryman‘ will take over it’s time slot beginning on January 2nd, 2012. While it may seem like KBS’s ‘Brain’ will be able to take the first spot from here on after this week’s success, ‘History of Salaryman’ boasts A-list stars with Lee Bum SooJung Kyu-WoonJung Rye-Woon, and Hong Soo Hyun, in addition to already attracting much attention with its eccentric posters and stills.
—-
We also saw the finale of ‘Deep-Rooted Tree’, which came out strong as it broke its own record with a 25.4% rating, leaving a solid footing for the upcoming drama, ‘Take Care of Us, Captain‘. Meanwhile, KBS’s ‘Man of Honor’ continued its steady ratings with a mark of 14.5%, while MBC’s ‘Me Too, Flower‘ sadly dropped in its rating to an even lower 5.8%.
To replace SBS’s ‘Deep-Rooted Tree’, ‘Take Care of Us, Captain’ will air  with Gu Hye Sun and Ji Jin Hee will take the leading roles. With two strong actor and actress as the leads, let’s see how far they will fly this drama ratings-wise with the story of Gu Hye Sun’s rise as a pilot.

———–
The Monday-Tuesday time slot saw SBS‘s ‘Thousand Day Promise‘ (featuring Soo Ae and Kim Rae Won) keep its hold on first place, even though its ratings dipped for this week. However, 15.6% still gave SBS the field, as MBC and KBS both aired new shows last week. In fact, it’s highly likely that ‘Thousand Day Promise’ will be able to keep first place as it concludes its broadcast.
Meanwhile, MBC‘s ‘Light and Shadow‘ is stepping up its game as it gained a 9% rating againstKBS‘s ‘Brain‘. The two new dramas will most likely be strong rivals as their respective plot lines gets thicker.
As for the Wednesday-Thursday lineup, SBS‘s ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘ broke the 20% mark with a 20.2% rating. The drama has a solid grip over this time slot, and it’s likely that its hold will increase; not only is the mystery starting to unfold, but viewers won’t go anywhere since they’ll be curious to see if SBS will hit the superior 30% mark.
In comparison, KBS saw sluggish improvement with its series ‘Man of Honor‘, which managed to rise a bit from its 14.5%. As for MBC’s ‘I’m a Flower Too’, it once again fell to last place with a low rating of 6.1%, a mark that’s sure to dismay its fans even more after news abounded about how the series would lose an episode.

30 November:

Welcome to another week of ‘allkpop TV guide and Ratings‘, an exclusive feature that spotlights three popular Korean dramas. It will discuss ratings for each week’s episodes, as well as provide brief recaps (with spoilers, so watch out!) of shows that we know allkpop readers are enjoying.
We’ve got the two regular shows being recapped for this week — ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘ (starring Shin Se KyungJang Hyuk, and Super Junior‘s Kim Kibum) and ‘Man of Honor‘ (starring Park Min Young and Chun Jung Myung). However, we’ve added the tvN‘s romantic comedy, Flower Boy Ramyun Shop‘ (starring Jung Il WooLee Chung Ah, and Lee Ki Woo).
[Note: We will not be including 'Flower Boy Ramyun Shop' in the ratings recap as it is a cable show and therefore has different standards for ratings.]
———–
Starting with the Monday-Tuesday recap, KBS wrapped up Choi Siwon‘s ‘Poseidon‘ recently and replaced it with a new medical drama called ‘Brain‘ (starring Shin Ha Kyun and Choi Jung Won). Unfortunately, it continued the mediocre ratings of its predecessor with an 8.8% viewership rating. On the other hand, MBC‘s ‘Gyebaek‘ gained its record rating of 13.0% — an effort that seemed almost too little, too late as it ended its broadcast.
SBS‘s ‘A Thousand Day Promise‘ (starring Soo Ae and Kim Rae Won) still reigned in first place with a 17.6% rating.
Now that ‘Gyebaek’ has concluded its run, MBC will air its 50th-anniversary drama, ‘Light and Shadow‘. It will follow the stories of entertainers during the ’60s to the present day. The drama will feature singer Son DambiAhn Jae WookNam Sang Mi, and Lee Pil Mo, who all play different entertainers with different destinies. With its groovy style, let’s see how well it will appeal to the Korean audience.
-
As for the Wednesday-Thursday lineup, SBS’s ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘ is still soaring high as the king of the ratings with 20.5% and 20.1% (even though its rating dropped a little from last week). KBS’s ‘Man of Honor‘ has been doing respectably well with 13.1%, but it will be unlikely for ‘Man of Honor’ to beat out the power of the saeguk drama. Meanwhile, MBC’s ‘I’m a Flower, Too‘ (starring Yoon Si Yoon,Lee Ji Ah, and B2ST‘s Kikwang) has been floundering in its ratings with a 6.4%.

✩ Flower Boy Ramyun Shop (tvN)
Official Synopsis: Yang Eun Bi (Lee Chung Ah) is a university student preparing for her civil service exam with the dream of becoming a high school teacher. She accidentally runs into Cha Chi Soo (Jung Il Woo), the arrogant son of the biggest food conglomerate in Korea. Both of them end up working at a ramyun shop run by the lazy Choi Kang Hyuk (Lee Ki Woo).
This romantic comedy deals with “pretty boys,” who with good looks and individuality, operate a ramyun shop with lively college girls as they experience the joys and pains of daily life.
-
Short Summary:
Serious spoilers ]
‘Flower Boy Ramyun Shop’ is a romantic comedy revolving around a nuna-dongsaeng relationship.
Yang Eun Bi is a 25-year-old who dreams of being a teacher. She encounters Cha Chi Soo in the women’s bathroom when he was trying to run away from his father’s men, who were attempting to bring the wayward U.S. student back home. A tarot reader foretold that she would meet her love at the toll of a bell, and sure enough, a bell sounds twice in their first meetings. Originally, Yang Eun Bi mistakes Cha Chi Soo to be a successful 30-something careerman who was “U.S. made”, but finds out to her horror that he’s a high school student.
Chi Soo ran away from the States and agreed with his all-powerful pop that he would resume his studies in Korea. As it turns out, the school he goes to is the very same one that Yang Eun Bi got assigned to teach. Eun Bi’s father owns a ramyun shop in the neighborhood, which Eun Bi resents because she felt he loved the shop more than her mother.
In the midst of all this, a mysterious boy named Choi Kang Hyuk (Lee Ki Woo) arrives on the scene — a steadfast, if not lazy boy with a warm smile who quietly declares that Eun Bi is his ‘wife’ (unbeknownst to Eun Bi herself). Kang Hyuk and Eun Bi get close when he becomes her rock against the shocking event of her father’s death. Chi Soo feels drawn to Eun Bi himself when he realizes that the raw pain she feels is the same as his, only in his case, he’s still scarred by his mother’s death.
Needless to say, Kang Hyuk and Chi Soo become rivals for Eun Bi’s interest, as Eun Bi intrigues the arrogant rich boy with her inner strength and naivety about love.
Episode 6 reveals that Kang Hyuk is the son of Eun Bi’s father’s friend, and he inherited the ramyun shop (along with his daughter) in a will written out in crayon. At first, she’s furious that she was given away like chattel by her father and declares that Kang Hyuk can just keep the shop because she cares nothing for it. But after a confrontation with Chi Soo and coming to terms with her past, Eun Bi agrees to work with Kang Hyuk together at the ramyun shop.
Chi Soo and Eun Bi’s younger friend, Ba Wool, also join the ramyun shop as employees, and thus begins chapter 7…
—–
Recap of Ep. 7-8: As Chi Soo begins his new part-time job at the newly-named ramyun shop, ‘Flower Boy Ramyun Shop’, he falls in love with Eun Bi even more and continues to work there, despite the “hardships” he faces in cutting pickled radish for fawning girls.
However, when Chi Soo gets closer to Eun Bi, Eun Bi’s ex-boyfriend enters the picture with a proposal. Chi Soo agrees to pretend to be Eun Bi’s boyfriend, but he becomes increasingly jealous of Eun Bi’s wavering feelings for her ex…

14 November:
Welcome to another week of ‘allkpop TV guide and Ratings‘, an exclusive feature that spotlights three popular Korean dramas. It will discuss ratings for each week’s episodes, as well as provide brief recaps (with spoilers, so watch out!) of shows that we know allkpop readers are enjoying.

We’ve got the three regular shows being recapped for this week — ‘Poseidon‘ (with Super Junior‘sChoi Siwon), ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘ (starring Shin Se Kyung, Jang Hyuk, and Super Junior‘s Kim Ki Bum), and ‘Man of Honor‘ (starring Park Min Young and Chun Jung Myung).
Let’s find out how these programs did for the week of November 7th to the 12th.
KBS‘s ‘Poseidon‘ ended its broadcast with a slightly higher rating of 8.9%, a result that’s sure to be disappointing for the series as it was unable to break the double digits, despite showing a steady increase as the show advanced both in tension and character development.
Meanwhile, SBS‘s ‘A Thousand Days’ Promise’ (starring Soo Ae and Kim Rae Won) is still holding the crown with its superior rating of 19.2%, and MBC‘s ‘Gyebaek‘ rose slightly with 11.8%.
To replace ‘Poseidon’, KBS will air new series ‘Brain‘ next week with its first and second episode. The show underwent significant cast changes and even tried getting Song Seung Hun for the lead role, but finally settled its lineup with Shin Ha Kyun and Choi Jung Won. Even though it is unlikely for ‘Brain’ to overtake ‘A Thousand Day’s Promise’, it might be able to race past ‘Gyebaek’ with its medical drama appeal.
MBC’s ‘I’m a Flower, Too‘ aired its pilot episode with a low rating of 6.8%, but was able to steadily increase to 7.6% as the love line between Yoon Si Yoon and Lee Ji Ah unfolded. The drama also impacted rival series, ‘Man of Honor‘, who declined to 12.7% because of viewers decamping to MBC to check out ‘I’m a Flower, Too’.
As for SBS’s ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘, it experienced only a slight dip from last week, managing to hold onto its high ratings with a superior figure of 19.9%.
Considering the stats, ‘Deep-Rooted Tree’ will most likely continue with its high ratings, but it’d be interesting to see how the rivalry between ‘I’m a Flower, Too’ and ‘Man of Honor’ pans out over the next few weeks.
Official Synopsis: Kim Sun Woo (Super Junior‘s Choi Siwon) spent his school days as a troublemaker, but decides to make a change in his life and joins the marine special forces team, aptly named ‘Poseidon’. Sun Woo shines as a promising commando, but his career takes an unexpected turn when he becomes entangled in an unsavory incident. He becomes demoted, and gets transferred to a marine police office in Gunsan city. Sun Woo’s passion for his job quickly cools down, and he slowly loses his vision as a marine police officer.
One day, Jung Ryul (Lee Sung Jae) appears out of the blue, and offers Kim Sun Woo the opportunity to join his new crime investigation team in Incheon city. Will Kim Sun Woo be able to reclaim his destiny and fulfill his potential?
-
Recap of Ep. 16 (**Finale**): Despite the speculations over Sun Woo’s death (which came about thanks to the director’s predilections for killing off his male leads), the drama ended with the standard happy ending. The CGI9 was able to capture Choi Hee Goon with the clues left behind by President Lee, which helped them figure out the hidden meaning behind Choi Hee Goon’s name.
As it turned out, Choi Hee Goon was discovered to be none other than President Lee, a shocking development for the CGI9 team.
With the bad guys put away and the mystery solved, CGI9 took a moment as they honored those who served and sacrificed for the country. Soo Yoon and Sun Woo both smiled happily as they look towards their future, holding hands at the helm of the boat.
 Deep-Rooted Tree (SBS)
Official Synopsis: A series of murder casts a shadow over the reign of King Sejong (Han Suk Kyu). As Kang Chae Yoon (Jang Hyuk) investigates these cases to get closer to the root of the matter, he finds himself embroiled in a massive conspiracy behind the serial killings. The conspiracy involves a group of geniuses who are willing to risk their lives towards their cause, and exert secret influence to interfere with the course of Kang Chae Yoon’s investigations.
-
Recap of Ep. 11-12: As a mysterious man waits to meet Chae Yoon at the palace, he gets kidnapped by Yoon Pyeong (Lee Soo Hyuk). Chae Yoon attempts to follow him and discovers a trail, only to find a dead body.
Meanwhile, King Sejong allows Ga Ri On (Yoon Je Moon) to conduct an autopsy under the explanation of trying to discover more information about the vocal system for So Yi (Shin Se Kyung). His real motive was to help create Hangul [the Korean language].
Amidst all of this, Chae Yoon and So Yi finally remember their childhood as friends, officially beginning their long-awaited love line…
✩ Man of Honor (KBS)
Official Synopsis: Yoon Jae In (Park Min Young) is a struggling young woman who dreams of becoming a nurse. She meets Kim Young Kwang (Chun Jung Myun) at the hospital after he sustained injuries. Kim Young Kwang is a baseball player who used to be hotshot hitter but got demoted to a lower rank. As they struggle to overcome their fates, the two draw closer to one another and find love.
-
Recap of Ep. 9-10: In Woo (Lee Jang Woo) is shocked to realize that Jae In is the daughter of deceased Chairman Yoon, as he mistakenly believed her to be Yong Kwang’s sister. The loveline between Young Kwang and Jae In also spikes to another level as Young Kwang finally learns to start accepting his romantic feelings for Jae In, leading to a confession of his feelings.
Intrigue also boils in this episode, as Jae In’s mother becomes stronger, gathering curiosity as to what challenge she’ll soon bring to In Woo’s dad…

Even though ‘Man of Honor’ might not be able to gain traction against the already popular drama, ‘Deep-Rooted Tree’, it is still doing quite well. ‘Poseidon’ is seeing a slight increase of ratings from its average ratings with a high of 7.3% rating as the plot becomes more complicated and the romance heats up. However, SBS‘s ‘Thousand Day Promise‘ (starring Su Ae and Kim Rae Won) is crowned as the first place winner as it saw a surge of high ratings this week with a record of 17.4%, as the storyline officially began Su Ae’s memory loss.MBC‘s ‘Gyebaek‘ has a stable rating track with a 13.3%.
With ‘Can’t Live with Losing’ finishing its airing last week, MBC aired two drama specials as the following drama, ‘I’m a Flower, Too‘, needed the extra time and preparation after Kim Jae Wonabruptly pulled from the drama due to his shoulder injury. ‘I’m a Flower, Too’ marks Lee Ji Ah‘s drama comeback after her scandal with ex-husband, Seo Tae Ji, and also Yoon Si Yoon‘s comeback after being crowned the ‘ratings king’ with ‘King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo‘.
[Note: Since MBC aired drama specials this week, we will be recapping the finale of 'Can't Live with Losing' from last week.]
‘Deep-Rooted Tree’ is still reigning in the ratings game with a record 18.9%, while ‘Man of Honor’ is gaining momentum against ‘Deep-Rooted Tree’ with a 13.6% rating, as many netizens are noting that the rating is creeping up much like the writers’ previous drama, ‘King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo’. While ‘Man of Honor’ and ‘Deep-Rooted Tree’ will likely stay as the top dramas for the Wednesday-Thursday airing, let’s see how well the actual ‘King of Baking’, Yoon Si Yoon, and Lee Ji Ah do with ‘I’m a Flower, Too’.

19 October:
Welcome to another week of ‘allkpop TV guide and Ratings‘, an exclusive feature that spotlights three popular Korean dramas. It will discuss ratings for each week’s episodes, as well as provide brief recaps (with spoilers, so watch out!) of shows that we know allkpop readers are enjoying.

While we’ve got the three regular shows being recapped for this week — ‘Poseidon‘ (with Super Junior‘s Choi Siwon), ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘ (starring Shin Se KyungSong Joong Ki, and Super Junior‘s Kim Ki Bum), ‘Can’t Live with Losing‘ (with Hallyu star Choi Ji Woo) –, we’ve added a new series to the list: ‘Man of Honor‘ (starring Park Min Young and Chun Jung Myung).
To start, ‘Poseidon’ is only seeing slight increases in viewership ratings from last week. The storyline is gaining momentum, but unfortunately, the ratings aren’t following suit as the drama currently has a rating of 6.6%. Meanwhile SBS‘s ‘Warrior Baek Dong Soo‘ (starring Ji Chang Wook and Yoo Seung Ho) held its first place crown until the end, as it finished its successful broadcast with a 17.9% rating. MBC‘s ‘Gyebaek‘ followed its consistent rating path with a 10.1%.

SBS will most likely successfully continue its strong streak with its melodrama, ‘Thousand Day Promise‘, which is ramping up high interest thanks to its cast of veteran stars like Su Ae and Kim Rae Won. ‘Thousand Day Promise’ is actually Kim Rae Won’s comeback drama post-military service, so that will be a contributing factor to the drama’s high ratings as well.

KBS completed its successful historical-romance series, ‘The Princess’ Man‘ the week before, and began to air ‘Man of Honor‘. However, SBS’s ‘Deep-Rooted Tree‘ leaped to first place over ‘Man of Honor’ and was crowned as the clear winner of the time slot. ‘Deep-Rooted Tree’ drew triumphant ratings of 18.2% and 19.2%, which is tremendous after only two weeks of airing. As for ‘Man of Honor’, it still brought in a respectable viewer base with a 9.4% rating.

Finally, MBC’s ‘Can’t Live with Losing‘ experienced a rating rise as it nears it finale with a 8.0%.

The story explains that Young Kwang fell in love with Jae In during her birthday party and decided to become a baseball champion for her after he suffered humiliation at the hands of ‘In Woo’ (Lee Jang Woo) in a baseball match.
Jae In’s parents passed away in a car crash, which resulted in Jae In having to live in an orphanage. The two come together again years later, as Jae In becomes Young Kwan’s nurse.

4 October:
allkpop‘s got a brand new feature specially geared towards the K-drama addicts!

The ‘allkpop TV guide and Ratings‘ will be a weekly feature that spotlights three popular Korean dramas. It will discuss ratings for each week’s episodes, as well as provide brief recaps (with spoilers, so watch out!) of shows that we know allkpop readers are enjoying.
The three shows being recapped for this week are ‘Poseidon‘ (with Super Junior‘s Choi Siwon), ‘Protect the Boss‘ (starring JYJ‘s Jaejoong), and ‘Can’t Live with Losing‘ (with Hallyu star Choi Ji Woo).
→ Ratings Summary

Although it had a rocky start with its pilot episode, ‘Poseidon’ is steadily rising in ratings, an impressive feat considering how it faces strong competition from SBS‘s ‘Warrior Baek Dong Soo‘ (with Ji Chang Wook and Yoo Seung Ho) and MBC‘s ‘Gyebaek‘ (with Song Ji HyoT-ara‘sHyomin).

While Poseidon has the potential to rise from its single digit ratings (7.0% and 6.2%), it faces a difficult task, as it must square off against two well-established historical dramas, both of which enjoy a large viewer base. As the story begins to unfurl and the action picks up, however, ‘Poseidon’ can look forward towards double digits soon.

Meanwhile, ‘Protect the Boss’ was able to successfully conclude with high ratings, despite KBS‘s ‘The Princess’ Man‘ taking the crown. Though ‘The Princess’ Man” raked in a 21.9% rating, ‘Protect the Boss’ wrapped up with 14.2%, a respectable figure for a light-hearted romantic comedy against a historical Romeo-and-Juliet passion story.

Finally, ‘Can’t Live with Losing’ dropped down to a disappointing 6.1% rating, despite its double-digit figure last week.

Deep-Rooted Tree‘ will air its pilot episode next week in place of ‘Protect the Boss’, and will starShin Se KyungJang HyukSong Joong Ki, and Super Junior‘s Kim Kibum.
