Lee Geun Chan PD of the show, ‘Oh! Boy‘ recently explained the purpose of the program.
He stated, “In our country, there are two types of male actors. Actors like Song Kang Ho, Sul Kyung Goo, and Park Hae Il are actors known for their excellent acting while Jang Dong Gun, So Ji Sub,Kang Dong Won, and Kwon Sang Woo are known more for their good looks. Those who are known for their acting can keep acting as they grow older, but those who are known for good looks will get old and will need a ‘successor’. I didn’t see any fitting successors yet. This is the reason I decided to create the show, ‘Oh!Boy’. ”
He then continued with, “Of course the ability to act is important but an actor needs his star qualities, which is why there is a wide range of young men on this show. Although some have no acting experience compared to others, their passion for it is still just as strong. One of them will act along side with Jung Il Woo on tvN’s upcoming drama ‘Flower Boy Ramen Shop’ while the winner will be casted in the lead role of a band drama.”
‘Oh! Boy’ will be a reality survival show with eight male contestants. Each contestant will go through different missions to grow and develop as an actor. There will be no eliminations and the one with the best grades in the end will be the winner.
Although it has yet to begin its broadcast, this show has gained much attention for its contestants, which include Big Bang member Taeyang‘s older brother, Dong Hyun Bae.
