2011 Asia Song Festival

16 October:
The ‘2011 Asia Song Festival‘, which was held at the Daegu Stadium on October 15th, is being interpreted by many as a complete disaster, due to its many technical flaws.

This year’s festival celebrated its 8th anniversary, and the event was a highly-anticipated one due to its elite line-up of representative performing artists. In addition, there were plans to award trophies for ‘Asia’s Best Rookie‘ and ‘Best Artist‘ to the deserving artists. Due to the event’s international exposure, even a small problem would be interpreted as ‘unprofessional’, which was the case for this year’s event as a number of stage disasters occurred over the night.
First off, the event was suppose to kick off at 5:00 PM with a showcase from rookie artists, but was delayed to 5:40 PM.  It was an uncomfortable experience for the organizers, as 400 reporters and 40,000 visitors waited impatiently in the rain. There was no shelter provided, so spectators had to remain in their seats for hours in the heavy rain. Complaints were loudly vocalized, as many pointed out that there could have been preparations made well in advance to provide shelter, especially since rain was forecasted several days before the event.
This was only the start of their problems.
Both SNSD and Super Junior‘s performances experienced numerous technical errors, one of which forced SNSD to stop their performance and begin again.
In addition to all of this, there were conflicts between the reporters and security guards. This year’s ‘Asia Song Festival’ was going to be broadcasted to over 40 countries and thus reporters were competing for advanteous spots that provided a better view of the stage. Security was so tight, however, that reporters had problems watching the performances themselves.
With all the major problems Korea faced this year, next year’s host for the ‘Asia Song Festival’ will have to step up and be wary of making the same mistakes.

On October 15th, SNSD performed their famous track “Run Devil Run” for the ‘2011 Asia Song Festival‘, which was held at the Daegu Stadium.

Their performance was marred by a series of unfortunate events related to technical issues. First, they experienced a microphone malfunction which forced the girls to start all over again. SNSD acted professionally by apologizing to the audience and quickly adjusted themselves to solve the problem. Unfortunately, another technical disaster emerged when the electronic screen behind the girls froze. The girls were a bit startled and confused by the accident.

Famous boy group, Super Junior, also had stage problems when SNSD’s video suddenly played on the screen behind them while they were performing.

On October 15th, U-KISS‘s Soohyun moved fans and impressed officials at the ‘2011 Asia Song Festival‘ by singing three songs live — a normative feat, to be sure, but Soohyun was diagnosed with a vocal cord nodule.
The boys returned to ‘Asia Song Festival’ as acknowledged Hallyu stars after winning their rookie award at the same festival two years ago. They demonstrated their global growth by greeting fans and press members in Korean, Japanese, and Mandarin-Chinese.
Soohyun stated, “I’ve been resting after being diagnosed with vocal cord nodule. Today, however, I’m willing to die on stage.” He went on to sing “Neverland“, “0330“, and “Manmanhani” in perfect unison with the rest of his members, impressing everyone at the event.
Dongho added, “At the ’5th Asia Song Festival’, we won the rookie award. Now that we’ve returned, I’m both excited and grateful. It’s an honor to be able to stand on stage with so many famous singers in Asia, and I hope to continue to participating in the festival until its 100th.”
Rookie girl group April Kiss, who also participated in the festival’s ‘Asia Rookie Singer Showcase’, had nothing but praise for their seniors. “We met them at a waiting room backstage and exchanged CDs. They treated us very comfortably. It was amazing to be able to see them so close during rehearsals. They truly amaze us, and we respect them a lot.”
They continued, “We heard that it’s been a few years since their debut and it’s very cool to see that they haven’t lost their roots and are still working so hard. Watching their rehearsals made us realize that we have so much to learn from them. They make us want to go back to our rehearsal room and practice more.”

Singer G.NA recently attended a press conference on the 14th for the 2011 Asia Song Festival (ASF)held at the Inter-Burgo Hotel in Daegu.
G.NA was in attendance representing all the Korean artists, and when asked if she would like to make her debut in the States, she replied, “My focus right now is on promoting my music in Korea, and I can’t say that it’s 100% guaranteed but I think that if I were ever given the opportunity to promote in the States, I would.”
G.NA is fluent in both Korean and English, as the singer has spent the majority of her life living in Canada. She would have no problem being active overseas as she wouldn’t experience a language barrier. The singer was recently in New York for the KBS New York Korea Festival. The Asia Song Festival is a large banquet held for the top artists of 6 different Asian nations, and this year is especially noteworthy since the ‘World Athletic Championships‘ was also held for the first time in Daegu. G.NA was invited to the ASF as an ‘Influential Artist of Asia‘.
