SISTAR has shown an impressive performance once again by on MBC‘s ‘Idol Star Athletics Championships‘ by confidently grabbing 1st place on the women’s 400m relay!
Member Bora had been beat out by Nine Muses‘ Eunji on the 100m relay, so this match was particularly important for her. Coincidentally, she was up against Eunji right at the end, but was able to speed up and come in and grab 1st.
The girls have been showing outstanding performances in each event, so viewers expected nothing less from one of the most athletic female idol groups.
On September 13th, TEEN TOP‘s L. Joe met with an unfortunate disqualification during the men’s long jump at the ‘3rd Idol Star Athletics Championships‘.
L. Joe showed much confidence prior to the match, showing his determination to prove that shorter people can do just as well in the match. He stated, “I’m going to show that short people can jump just as high.”
Unfortunately, while running towards the jump off, he fumbled his footwork and fell over in a rather comedic fashion that led Kim Je Dong to comment, “If you’re not hurt, would it be okay to laugh as hard as we want?”
Thankfully, fans were glad to see him get right back up without any major injuries.
ZE:A‘s Ha Min Woo defeated front-runner Lee Hyun and took home the gold for the 100m men’s long jump competition!
On September 13th, MBC aired its Chuseok special, ’3rd Idol Star Athletics Championships‘, which saw rigorous competitions between many of the nations top idol’s.
As soon as the 100m rounds were finished, many tall male idols lined up to participate in the long jump competition and received the fervent support of their fans. As the winner of last year’s long jump event, Lee Hyun was one of the top contenders and he seemed quite confident in his abilities.
Surprisingly, the gold went to ZE:A’s Ha Min Woo, who won with a 5.25m record. Unfortunately, Ha Min Woo was unable to break Lee Hyun’s 2010 record of 5.42m. Lee Hyun came in second place after Ha Min Woo and received a silver medal.
ZE:A’s Dongjun displayed a perfect performance in the mens’ 110m hurdles final at the MBC “3rd Idol Star Athletics Championships“ this Chuseok weekend.
With an outstanding time of 16.14 seconds, Dongjun managed to maintain his 1st place spot from start to finish, which allowed him to take home the gold medal in the end.
Winners of the silver and bronze medals were Mighty Mouth‘s Sangchu and SHINee‘s Minho, who each got a time of 16.43 seconds and 16.47 seconds, respectively.
After winning the gold medal, Dongjun expressed, “I didn’t think I would win it for the second consecutive time. I’m happy that I won.”
On September 13th, Super Junior‘s leader Leeteuk put his variety skills on full display at MBC‘s ‘3rd Idol Star Athletics Championships‘, providing much laughter for viewers and fellow contestants alike.
Because he was disqualified from the same 110m hurdles at the second championships, fans were looking forward to seeing how he’d fare this time. As soon as the whistle blew, however, Leeteuk skirted to the side and ran the entire race without jumping over any hurdles.
His hilarious act put in 1st place, but “only in time”. He made many burst into laughter when he showed more passion in his interview than the real 1st place winner, ZE:A‘s Dongjun.
Boom said with a laugh, “I’d like to represent all of Boom Academy and apologize for this!”
Despite not being able to participate in this year’s “Idol Star Athletics Championships“, Super Junior‘s Heechul was seen at the venue cheering on his bandmates while enjoying the beautiful weather.
With an umbrella in his hand, Heechul jokingly remarked, “Team SM will only come to their senses once they come last,” but still showed his love for his labelmates as he added, “But anyway, to our team: fighting!”
Since Heechul was preparing to enter the military at the time of recording, the Rainbow members saluted to him and shouted, “Choongsung!” (“Allegiance”). Kim Heechul shouted back, “I told you not to do that!“, causing the spectators to laugh.
Boom supported Heechul with the words, “When you go to the army, you’ll receive a number. You will not have a name, only that one number. I wish you the best of luck.”
Super Junior‘s Eunhyuk made the panelists cheer wildly for him by showing perfect form during part one of MBC‘s Chuseok special, ‘Idol Star Athletics Championships‘.
Boom raised anticipation for Eunhyuk’s performance in the men’s 100m hurdles by commenting,“Eunhyuk will jump over those hurdles with the smoothness of an anchovy in a pond.”
With his eyes on the prize, Eunhyuk showed intense focus as he jumped over each hurdle. Hilariously, it went as smooth as Boom had predicted, and he earned a new nickname, ‘the hurdle anchovy show’. The mindset must’ve worked, as he easily passed the preliminaries with a record of 18.67, coming in at first.
After the match, he said, “My juniors all have young blood so the energy is quite amazing. I think the match will get harder.”
On September 13th, SHINee‘s Minho leapt ahead of the competition in the men’s hurdles match at MBC‘s ‘3rd Idol Star Athletics Championship‘.
The idol had done so well, in fact, that he was praised right and left, and was even compared to Liu Xiang, a Chinese athlete who currently holds the world record for this event.
Sports analyst Yoon Yeo Choon praised, “He’s not just simply jumping up and down, he’s flowing with the hurdles as he leaps over them. It’s hard to stretch out your front leg like that as you’re jumping, but he does it very well at such a low position. You can consider his tactics similar to Liu Xiang’s.”
His handsome looks also didn’t escape the eyes of panelists, as many commented on how he made every match seem like a scene from of a CF.
It was an action-packed day at this year’s ‘Idol Star Athletics Championships’ , but unfortunately for a few idols, their hard efforts resulted in some minor injuries.
During the preliminary rounds of the women’s 100m hurdles race, Brave Girls’ Eun Young fell over while jumping over a hurdle, causing an injury to her Achilles tendon. The idol was immediately taken off to the side to receive ice pack treatment on her leg.
Eunjung wasn’t the only one to suffer a fall, as Dal Shabet’s Subin also fell mid-flight over a hurdle and toppled to the ground. Fortunately for Subin, her injury wasn’t as detrimental as Eunjung’s and she was able to continue on with the rest of the day.
