U-KISS part 2

23 April:
On April 23rd, U-KISS‘s Dongho and Hoon attended the production conference for their cable TV super action drama, ‘Holyland‘.

Dongho revealed, “I read the Japanese comic first, so I was well versed with the drama’s scenario. It felt amazing to receive a casting offer from a drama I already knew so well. Since it already had an original series, I felt more confident with taking the role.”
Dongho plays the role of a student who is intially weak and introverted, thus regarded as a loner in society. After picking up boxing, he finds a new strength within himself and goes after the wrongfully rebellious.
He continued, “It’s true that I felt pressured because I had so many scenes. I figured that if the drama didn’t do so well, it’d be my fault. During the preparation process, however, I grew and matured, and I’m confident that a great product has emerged out of it. A lot of seniors helped and gave me advice, but there were a lot of scenes that I had to accomplish on my own. I worked hard to express it in my own way where help couldn’t reach, which is why there might be misinterpretations or lacking aspects in the final product. I will continue to grow, however, and show improvement.”
Hoon added, “I was really worried about acting with Dongho. There are a lot of scenes in ‘Holyland’ where Dongho and I converse with just our gazes alone. Considering that we burst out into laughter by just looking at each other normally, it was hard, but also a unique experience.”
Dongho also stated, “Whenever I went to film dramas, the other member hyungs would worry for me a lot. I could tell that they were a lot more comfortable with me being with Hoon hyung for ‘Holyland’ since the two of us can take care of each other and work on our teamwork.”

Boy band U-KISS has been selected as the #1 Hallyu group to watch out for in Japan this year.

Major Japanese portal site ‘Zapallas‘ conducted a survey asking users who they thought would be ’2012′s Greatest Hallyu star in Japan’. U-KISS member Kevin secured the #1 spot under the ‘Hallyu star’ category, while the group as a whole came in at #1 under the ‘group’ category.
100 famous Japanese fortune tellers also took part in the survey, making their decisions based on astrological signs, blood types, as well as 574 other ways to determine fortune for the new year. Taking into consideration that a drama series and a movie is being considered to be made about the boys in both Korea and Japan, the participants felt that U-KISS would be able to further make a name for themselves in Japan.
On top of speaking Korean, the U-KISS members also speak English, Japanese, as well as Chinese, and the boys have made their faces known by speaking English on global programs that aired overseas. This year, the boys are determined to succeed in Japan as well as deliver solid performances in Korea in order to rise to the top.

23 October:

U-KISS surprised fans today when they released a new version of their follow-up song, “Someday” through various music sites.
Fans are speculating that the boys engineered a new take on the song in order to accommodate member Soohyun, who developed alarming vocal cord nodules. The condition forced U-KISS to prematurely halt their promotions for “Neverland, and so it’s possible that U-KISS’s management is taking no chances on irritating them again.
In any case, this version of “Someday” carries tweaked arrangements and part distribution, so it’s a refreshing take on an already great track.

Earlier today, U-KISS announced that they’d be going into follow-up promotions with their next track, “Someday. As it turns out, the group is abruptly halting their “Neverland” activities because of leaderSoohyun being diagnosed with a vocal cord nodule.
U-KISS was originally scheduled to promote “Neverland” until the end of the month, but NH Mediarevealed on October 11th that they will be cutting it off early to let Soohyun rest.
As fans already know, Soohyun has quite a significant amount of high notes that are sung live throughout the song. For the past six months, he’s been training in singing and dancing at the same time for six hours a day.
Representatives stated, “The worst possible situation would be promoting their follow-up without Soohyun. Soohyun will be performing at the ‘Asia Song Festival‘ on October 15th because of how important it is, but we’ll make sure to lessen the strain on his vocals as much as possible.”

27 September:

U-KISS has canceled all of their schedules for September 27th to give the boys some rest from their extremely stressful schedules.
On September 27th, NH Media announced, “U-KISS will be canceling everything they have scheduled to take time off and rest.”
Since their “Neverland” comeback, the boys have been traveling all over the world to promote their album as actively as possible.  Unfortunately, the fatigue and stress piled up, which representatives took immediate notice of.  Recognizing that this could affect the boys’ promotions, NH Media decided to go ahead and cancel all activities to give them a moment to breathe.
On the 24th, the boys headed to Malaysia and returned on the 25th to perform on ‘Inkigayo‘.  They then went over to Japan to handle issues relating to their visas for their future promotions. They still have music programs lined up, as well as a trip to Taiwan on October 3rd.
Representatives stated, “Their health and stamina can only take so much and it seems their limits have been reached.  We were intending to focus on their Korean promotions this time but with the addition of overseas activities, they tried so very hard to work diligently in everything. Now, it’s hard for them to mentally stand the day.”
The members themselves said, “Although we tried to focus on just our Korean promotions, there were activities that we just couldn’t pass up in consideration for our futures.  We’re trying our best to handle both at once, but fatigue is inevitably building up. We’re all young, though, so resting one day is already energizing in itself.  We’ll come back with a more lively image starting tomorrow.”

24 September:
With their second album, “Neverland“, the members of U-KISS returned stronger than ever, and impressed K-Pop fans with their enhanced skills.

Prior to their comeback, the boys signed on with avex Entertainment and began promoting in Japan, earning popularity for their handsome looks and talent. The boys hit a daebak right from the start with their Korean album, “Bran New Kiss“, which landed within the top five on Oricon‘s daily chart on the day of its release, and rose to third the very next day.
It wasn’t an easy task, though.  They of course had to overcome the cultural differences as well as the pangs of homesickness that hit them when they practiced without any days off.  There would be no time for rest back at their dorm either, since they had to catch up their Japanese lessons.
“Aside from sleeping, the rest of our day was spent on rehearsing and Japanese lessons.” Although they only could get about five hours of sleep a day, they humbly stated, “We’re still far from success, though.”

They continued, “If we chose a specific color and told everyone that that was who we were, we’d be limited in what we could show. Our charm lies in the fact that we can come back with a new image each time.”

That’s why their comeback album has a variety of genres from electronic dance to medium-tempo ballads. The boys’ musical growth could be heard in the melodies and adlibs, which were produced by the members themselves; AJ and Kiseop even co-composed “Obsession“.

AJ stated, “Im consistently learning how to write songs.  I’m trying to listen to as many songs as I can and take in the advice of those around me.  Composing is something I want to continue doing, and I’ve also picked up the study of harmony to aid it.”

Even though they’re three years into their debut, they stated, “It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since we’ve debuted. We still feel like rookies.  his album, however, is one of high quality.  We all worked very hard even while attending to other commitments. Maybe it’s because we worked so hard on it, we’re also that much more confident and have a lot of expectations.”

It doesn’t stop there, though, as they’ll also be adding schedules from Thailand and the Philippines down the line.

25 August:

Following closely behind the release of U-KISS’s new music video teaser for “Neverland“, Y-Star Newsrecently revealed their behind-the-scenes footage for U-KISS’s new music video!
The boys kicked off the interview with a strong and cheerful greeting to the viewers of Y-Star News, and the video showed how hard the members were working for the filming of their music video as they dripped in sweat while dancing on the ’snowing’ set.
When asked if he was too tired, Kiseop replied in a cheerful tone while trying to catch his breath, “It’s okay, it’s because I’m not fully adjusted yet. I’ll work harder and show everyone a better side of me.”
The reporter commented while watching the boys dance on the set, “Kiseop says he’s fine, but his body doesn’t seem to be okay.” She continued, “The members don’t seem to have a chance to rest and relax even when they are on break, perhaps because they haven’t been active in Korea for a while, and also because of their powerful dance choreography.”
When asked about how they had been while living in Japan and preparing for their Japanese debut,Soohyun started to reply, “The food in Osaka is really good, so we would sneak out without our manager...”, and then paused in the middle of his sentence while giving their manager a guilty glance, which lead the other members to burst out into awkward laughter.
Soohyun tried to retract his statement by saying, “Actually we always go out with our manager hyung~ How could we sneak out by ourselves?”, to which Hoon cheekily replied, “We don’t remember ever going out by ourselves but you do, I guess you sneaked out by yourself~”. AJ also agreed with Hoon and commented, “Yeah, you must have gone out by yourself.”
The U-KISS members managed to quickly wrap up the awkward conversation by exclaiming, “We love you manager hyung!”
The video also went on to talk about their plans for releasing their second album in September and actively promoting their album in Korea before making their official debut in Japan towards the end of the year.
Towards the end of their interview, the boys were asked what they wished to do while promoting their second album, to which Dongho confessed, “I don’t know if I should be saying this, but I want to receive first place and become close with female singers…“.
When none of the other members added their thoughts to this statement, Dongho exclaimed, “We all talked about this, why are you acting like we didn’t!”, to which AJ replied with a laugh, “Our pretty Dongho is so honest~”.
Good luck to U-KISS with their upcoming promotions.
