Big Bang 2012

5 June:

Big Bang‘s Daesung expressed his affection for the group’s new album, ‘Still Alive‘.
On June 5th, Big Bang held a press conference at Hyundai Card‘s head office to announce the ‘YG X Hyundai Card Re-branding Project‘.
Member Daesung who was present at the event remarked, “The track “Still Alive” is my favorite from this fifth mini album. You can probably see from the lyrics that the song displays a lot of emotional change.
I truly feel alive when I hear this song, and I become grateful for every single day,” he continued. “I listen to this song every morning as I begin my day. The song well captured all the different emotions I felt when I recorded the song.
Though Big Bang has no plans to promote the album in Korea, they will be meeting with fans through their Re-Branding Project. Hyundai Card properly expressed Big Bang’s growth as musicians, as well as their thoughts, dilemmas, and more with a new logo, Brand Identity, album jacket, MV, and more. They even produced a brand guide-book for Big Bang.
They are also launching a new music project titled ‘Re-Monster’. Various musicians are encouraged to reinterpret Big Bang’s new song “Monster” and introduce it to Hyundai Card MUSIC. All the songs will be officially presented, and the most popular ‘Re-Monster’ track will receive a performance opportunity as well as a chance to release a digital single.
In related news, Big Bang released their special album on June 3rd. 5 of the 9 tracks are fresh new songs, and their title song “Monster” is still ranking #1 on major music sites in Korea.

Hyundai Card and YG Entertainment held a press conference in Seoul on June 5th to talk about Big Bang‘s rebranding project.
Big Bang member G-Dragon who was present at the event talked about their new song “Monster” saying, “This new song will remind you of Big Bang’s “Lies” and “Haru Haru“, rather than give you a look at a new and different Big Bang. A lot of things are similar, such as T.O.P and I taking turns rapping towards the beginning.
For “Monster”, we paid the most attention to the visual effects, and through our collaboration with Hyundai Card, we created a quality MV that’s on par with a Hollywood Blockbuster,” G-Dragon continued. “I’m wearing horns, Taeyang took on an unconventional hair style change… all of us scrambled to throw out ideas in order to create the most monster-like appearances.
In regards to their project with Hyundai Card, he remarked, “A lot of Indie bands are reinterpreting our song “Monster”, and so we will be holding a contest. YG has plans to produce a single album for the winner of the project, and if they would like, they will also be able to collaborate with us.
Rapper T.O.P added, “Other than the Re-Monster project, we have no other specific collaboration plans, however both companies are famous for attempting new things so I think any direction we take will be good.”
Big Bang’s maknae Seungri also remarked, “In the past, Hyundai Card had invited us when they held performances by famous artists from overseas. Through our collaboration with Hyundai Card, we hope to host high-scale performances as well.

Idol group Big Bang will not be performing their soon-to-be-released special edition album in Korea.
Big Bang will be unveiling 5 new songs with their special edition album ‘Still Alive‘ on June 3rd, but fans will unfortunately be unable to see them perform these songs in Korea.
YG Entertainment informed OSEN on May 29th, “Big Bang will be releasing a new album on the third of next month, however, it has been decided that none of the songs will be performed on any of the Korean stages. Due to their World Tour, they have concerts in Japan until the 24th of next month, and it is a situation where we just cannot make any time.”
This new ‘Still Alive’ album is a way to thank the fans for their explosive response to their fifth mini-album,” they continued. “We are so grateful that the still cuts and teaser images for their title song “Monster” is receiving much interest and support.”
“Monster” is rumored to be a song that’s much more fierce and powerful than any other Big Bang song released to date. It has also been reported that the quality of the MV is on par with a Hollywood Blockbuster.
In related news, Big Bang is currently touring Japan, and will have traveled to 25 cities in 16 different countries by the time their World Tour comes to an end.

19 May:
Big Bang‘s recent Japanese concert has brought chaos to the Japanese railway system in Nagoya.

Starting on May 17th and 18th, Big Bang kicked off their ‘2012 Alive Tour‘ at the Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan. On May 18th, JR Tokai Railway company halted service at the Kasadera station temporarily due to fear that a large number of people would come in due to Big Bang’s concert. However, the train operator forgot to check on the station status, and passed by Kasadera when service continued.  Ultimately, 800 people missed their ride.
A representative from Tokai explained, “We figured there would be a lot of confusion since the Big Bang concert was taking place near the Kasadera station. We initially decided to temporarily halt service at the Kasadera station, but the train driver rushed and packed passengers in and did not check new station points when he departed Kamagori station.  He eventually passed by the Kasadera station.”
Big Bang’s concert tour will be covering Nagoya, Yokohama, Osaka, Saitama, Fukuoka, and more. Originally, the concert tour was to cover 5 cities with 10 concerts. However, 1 million fans flooded ticket reservations forcing Big Bang to add 3 more concerts to their list. Even with the additions, there were many complaints about lack of tickets. Thus, Big Bang has recently decided to add two additional shows. An additional concert will be held on November 23rd in Kyosera Dome, Osaka. The last one will be held on December 5th at the Tokyo Dome.

Big Bang‘s Seungri shared his thoughts on the group’s scandals and allegations which took place last year.
On SBS ‘Big Bang Comeback Show – ALIVE BIG BANG‘ that aired on March 9th, Seungri admitted, “To be honest, the five us of did not have good relationships with one another even until we promoted “Tonight” last year. It would be more accurate to say that we were awkward.
He continued, “All the members wanted to have their own individual promotions. Each of us thought we could make it on our own. Taeyang and I wanted to release solo albums, T.O.P hyung wanted to film movies and dramas, while G-Dragon dreamed of becoming a producer.”
But when news of Daesung‘s accident and G-Dragon’s marijuana allegations broke out, it served as a good opportunity for the five members to grow closer. “We realized how quickly Big Bang could fall apart, and the five of us grouped as a team again. We encouraged each other, and wanted to remain strong.”
Meanwhile, Seungri along with the rest of the Big Bang members held their comeback concert at the Gymnastic Stadium at Olympic Park in Seoul March 2nd through the 4th.

American weekly news magazine TIME recently recognized the K-pop phenomenon with the online publication of an article titled, South Korea’s Greatest Export: How K-Pop’s Rocking the World.
Not only did the article cover the success of Hallyu’s leading boy group Big Bang, it also talked about devoted international fans who send in ‘fan rice’ to support their favorite stars, as well as how the K-Pop boom is positively affecting Korea’s economy.
But it seems one mention wasn’t enough as on March 9th, TIME made another mention of Big Bang in a second online publication titled, ‘Watch Your Back, Bieber: The Boy Band Is Making a Comeback‘.
After introducing ‘international import’ groups such as Wanted and One Direction who are expected to dominate the charts this year, the author wrote,
It’s not just the Brits and Irish who have a stronghold on the boy band market, though. Korean pop music, or K-pop, has crossing over into American markets, and with it bringing along a slew of boy bands with the choreographed routines and polish of the ‘NSYNCs andBackstreet Boys of yore, along with the hip-hop swagger that’s been mostly dominating radio airwaves for the last several years… Big Bang in particular stands to gain success in the U.S.—even shooting their latest video for the inanely catchy single “Bad Boy” in Brooklyn. The hysteria they induce overseas is frankly hard to conceive, as they’re more than just household names. They’ve conquered Japan, plan to work with producer Swizz Beatz andChris Brown, and won an MTV European Music Award in 2011, beating Britney Spears for Best Worldwide Act.”
Looks like the Hallyu is continuing to make strong waves across the globe. You can read the article in it’s entirety here.

On SBS ‘Big Bang Comeback Show – ALIVE BIG BANG‘ that aired on March 9th, Big Bangmember Daesung stated that he was thinking of taking a break from the industry for 2 to 3 years.
Daesung admitted, “Personally, I thought I would have taken maybe 2 or 3 years before making a comeback. I told Yang Hyun Suk [YG] that I wasn’t confident and that I was still lacking in a lot of ways,” he said. “But YG told me that as a singer, my job was to deliver emotions to the listeners. A true artist, he explained, needed to be able to deliver sentiments during both joyous and difficult periods of their life. When he said that, I realized that he was right.
He added, “After finding my courage, I worked on the album and thoroughly prepared for our first television broadcast.

On March 9th, the members of Big Bang sat down for a heartfelt interview with SBS‘s ‘Big Bang Comeback Show - Alive Big Bang‘, which also featured footage of their comeback concert earlier this month.
On their comeback, G-Dragon opened up, “I didn’t think that I could just stay hiding forever, and I knew that I couldn’t stand in the way of so many other people in my members. As opposed to saying that I’m reflecting a hundred thousand times, I thought that it’d be better to physically show them that I’ve changed and to quickly change the notion that people have of me as fast as possible. It was what I had to do, I thought.”
When asked when he thought the “Bluest” moment of his life was, he replied, “Right now. Since I was a baby, I’ve never had that many hardships. I lived a lucky life and was loved by many. After going through what happened last year, I thought about everything more, and now that time has passed, I think this moment is the bluest moment of my life. I’m not very sad, but I’m not very happy either; it feels like I’m somewhere in the middle.”

VIPs, you are going to love this! We have just been notified by YG Entertainment that the ‘Big Bang Comeback Show’ will be airing on SBS this Friday at 6 p.m. KST, as well as being made available through other portals like the official YG blog, and YouTube channel.

Although we had all believed that SBS’ ‘Inkigayo’ would be the first program to air Big Bang’s comeback performance, it seems it will be preceded by ‘Big Bang Comeback Show’, which will be utilizing the footage from their highly successful ’2012 Big Bang Alive Tour’.
YG Entertainment stated, “‘Big Bang Comeback Show’ which utilizes footage from the concert will be aired not only through broadcast, but through other global means like MTV, Official YG blog, and YouTube channel, so that more music fans overseas will be able to view Big Bang’s comeback performance.”
Tickets to Big Bang’s concert every year are in very high demand, and many aren’t able to obtain a ticket for themselves. In addition, the concert DVD that is made for sale after the concert experiences strong sales as well. Thus, this decision to air the concert footage for free is a rather unconventional decision.
The agency also stated, “There is a limit to what can be shown through music programs that allow only one song to be showcased each week, especially since we have chosen all the tracks off Big Bang’s album as title tracks. Thus, while contemplating a more effective way to promote, we have chosen to include Big Bang’s interviews as well as Big Bang’s new track performances in their world tour concert through SBS’ ‘Big Bang Comeback Show’… Afterwards, Big Bang will be appearing on music shows like SBS’ ‘You & I’, and showcase multiple tracks.”
“We are also preparing special programs in various formats with Mnet, and we will open it up through all ways on the internet so that fans overseas will be able to view them as well,” they continued.
Although there are copyright issues that follow when such footage are released online, YG Entertainment will be taking the steps to ensure that such problems will not arise with various broadcast stations in order to promote Big Bang world wide, rather than only within Korea.
Through the airing of the ‘Big Bang Comeback Show’, ‘Running Man’, and their upcoming performance on ‘Inkigayo’, Big Bang will kick off their broadcast promotions.

YG Entertainment has just unveiled the official poster for Big Bang‘s ‘2012 Big Bang Alive Tour‘!

The poster, which also serves as the official banner for Big Bang’s ‘2012 Big Show‘ — continues to play on the winter theme from “Blue“.
“Blue” was released as Big Bang’s first title track from their 5th mini-album, ‘Alive, and it encapsulates themes of sorrow and loss. With lines like “Winter has passed, and Spring has come“, it’s a great song to herald Big Bang’s comeback to the industry.
The poster visually expressed that feeling of suspended activity by having the members pose as if they’re in a cryogenic state — frozen in time, they’re now ready to thaw and come alive once more.
Big Bang will kick off their ‘Big Bang Alive Tour’ with the ’2012 Big Show’ in Seoul, to be held from March 2nd to the 4th.
