Immortal Song 2 2012

28 May:
Super Junior‘s Ryeowook and INFINITE‘s Sunggyu have announced that they’ll be joining KBS‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ as fixed members!

The two will be starting with the June 4th episode featuring a special on Yang Hee Eun. Ryeowook in particular is known for his sweet voice as well as vast experience in musicals and radio DJing. Sunggyu himself is the team’s leader and main vocalist.  He is one of the few idol members that can be proud of his outstanding vocal talent.
As they are both part of groups at the forefront of the Hallyu wave, fans are excited and looking forward to how well they’ll fare every week on the show.
Their first stage will broadcast on June 16th.

Part 2 of the ‘J.Y. Park special aired on the May 19th broadcast of ‘Immortal Song 2‘. ContestantsHong Kyung MinSonyaNo BrainDavichi‘s Lee HaeriUlala Session, and Ailee continued to compete for the top spot.
They put on lavish performances that covered a wide range of musical genres including ballads, dance, reggae, and more.
Ulala Session were the first to step on stage singing Park Ji Yoon‘s “Adult Ceremony“, and the members displayed their true showmanship and wit with their performance.
Davichi’s Lee Haeri put on an emotional performance of J.Y.Park’s hit ballad song “Behind You” and rookie singer Ailee performed J.Y. Park’s debut song “Don’t Leave Me“. Ailee ultimately beat out Davichi’s Lee Haeri by 1 point, 419 to 418.

Davichi‘s Kang Min Kyung recently shed tears during her last performance on ‘Immortal Song 2′.
The legendary singer this episode revolved around was Patty Kim. Ironically, Kang Min Kyung chose the song “Goodbye“.
Before she got on stage Kang Min Kyung stated, “This is the last time I will be on the stage for ‘Immortal Song 2′. I thought it was weird, but as expected I felt sad during the rehearsal. I hope my emotions don’t get in the way of today’s performance.
On stage she also stated, “I will sing this song for Patty Kim senior’s goodbye, my goodbye, and for everyone else who has experienced goodbyes.” Kang Min Kyung began her performance with her steady vocals that melted the hearts of the audience. However, during the second half of the song she became overwhelmed with her emotions and shed tears.
Kang Min Kyung, who has shown her extraordinary vocal skills through ‘Immortal Song 2′, beat Ali with this performance.

KBS 2TV‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ aired the second half the ‘Patti Kim‘ special.
On last week’s episode, singer ALi who sang “Early Rain” had 372 votes, and came out on top amongst the first 7 artists.
This weeks episode featured 6 singers: Kim Tae WooSonyaKang MinkyungJay ParkLee Jinsung, and SHINee‘s Taemin.
Both idol stars Jay Park and Taemin put on fresh and powerful performances to capture Patti Kim’s heart, while Sonya who announced that she had a special performance, brought everyone to tears as she sang Patti Kim’s debut song “Vow to Love“, signing in sign language as she sang.
And Kim Tae Woo who featured on a television program for the first time in a long while combined his hit song “Love Rain” with Patti Kim’s “Can’t Live With You“, showcasing his unchanging powerful vocals.

Rookie singer Ailee was not afraid to reveal her true weight.
On the March 24th airing of KBS2‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘, Ailee performed legendary diva Patty Kim‘s classic hit, “Light and Shadows“.
Once her performance came to an end, Patty Kim put Ailee on the spot by asking her actual weight.
Though it was a surprising question, Ailee was not thrown off and confidently remarked, “I can be honest. I weigh 50 kg (110 lbs).”
You very clearly deliver the lyrics,” Patty Kim remarked. “It’s impressive that a small-framed girl has such a big voice.”
Netizens who learned Ailee’s weight remarked, “So cool of her to reveal her real weight,” and “She seems so down to earth.

Rookie singers John Park and Ailee made quite the impression on legendary diva, Patti Kim.
The latest episode of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘ featured a special on Patti Kim.
It was the first time the two rookie singers appeared on the show, and expectations for their performance were extremely high ahead of the show’s airing.
John belted out a new jazzy version of Patti Kim’s song “I Can’t Forget” from 1978, and as soon as he stepped on stage, Patti Kim along with all the female contestants backstage immediately began smiling with delight. Ailee also performed Patti Kim’s song “Light and Shadow” from 1967.
The song was a good choice, bringing out John’s unique vocals and Patti Kim sang the praises of John Park who was nervous for his first appearance. “Seeing her smile from on stage made me feel good,” he said.
Patti Kim also sang her praises for Ailee saying that she will be the next great singer.
This ‘Immortal Song 2′ episode was Patti Kim’s first television guest-appearance after her official retirement.

SHINee‘s Taemin made a complete transformation, performing the legendary Kim Gun Mo‘s 90s hit, “Wrongful Meeting” on KBS 2TV‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘. Taemin remarked, “I prepared a grand performance in order to put on a good show.”
As a special bonus for the grand stage, f(x)‘s Amber made a guest appearance to support Taemin.
Kim Gun Mo’s third album which included his hit song “Wrongful Meeting” sold 2.8 million copies, more than any other album in the history of Korean music, and with it, Kim Gun Mo earned the title of ‘Artist King’ in 1995.
Taemin’s version of the song had an even quicker tempo than the original, and with his performance, Taemin showcased a more masculine and powerful side of himself.




Additionally, singer Lyn admitted that she recently went through a painful breakup.
On the same episode, Lyn paid tribute to legendary singer Kim Gun Mo by singing his classic hit, “Alone in Love“.
The song was the title track to Kim Gun Mo’s second album in 1993, and the emotional song sings of being unable to stop loving a past lover who’s long gone.
Lyn’s voice exuded more emotion than usual as she started her performance, and she even began shedding unstoppable tears towards the end of the song, causing the contestants in the waiting room to grow teary-eyed as well.
The singer who delivered the sad emotions of her song more intensely than ever shook up the audience by admitting, “I recently went through a painful break up.”
Netizens who heard the news of her break up wrote online, “The lyrics must have really spoken to her,” “Cheering you on,” “I think I may cry seeing her performance“, and more.

Singer Jay Park put on a interesting ‘Drunken Master‘ performance.
On the recent episode of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘, the singers honored the late composer Park Choon Suk, and singer Jay Park put on a performance of Nam Jin‘s “Empty Glass“.
The song started off with an intense beat, and to go along with the title of the song, Jay wittily emulatedJackie Chan‘s ‘Drunken Master’ performance from the movie itself.
His dance earned praised from MC Kim Gura who remarked, “I think Jay Park’s dance is the best in the nation,” while music critic Kang Hun added, “He well adapted the song to his own style, putting on a phenomenal performance.”

SHINee‘s Taemin delivered a beautiful stage of the Silver Bell Sisters‘ “Terminal Mapo”.
On the March 3rd, KBS‘s ‘Immortal Song 2′ aired it’s episode honoring composer Park Choon Suk, in which Taemin sang a fresh, young version of Silver Bell Sisters’ “Terminal Mapo”.
Music critic Kang Heon Eun was present, and praised Taemin’s performance saying, “He made ‘Terminal Mapo’ brilliant. Out of all the stages I have seen on ‘Immortal Song 2′, I think this one was the most splendid.
Taemin expressed his feelings of performing a song that had been released 26 years before his birth, saying, “This song came out before I was born so I was unfamiliar with it, but I put a spin to the song by giving it a swing feel.” He also shared his ambitions by stating, “I had one win last week and I want to achieve two wins now.”
On this episode, the other singers also sang classics such as Lee Mi Ja‘s “Island Village Teacher”,Patti Kim‘s “Thorn Tree Bird”, Nam Jin‘s “Empty Glass”, Na Hun Ah‘s “The Watermill is Turning”, Ahn Da Sung‘s “At the Beach”, Moon Joo Ran‘s “Break Up at the Airport”.

Singer Jay Park has returned to Immortal Song 2!
The February 25th episode of KBS2 ‘Immortal Song 2‘ will honor old-school band ‘Zoo‘, who is celebrating 25 years since their debut.
Jay Park left ‘Immortal Song 2′ last November to focus on preparing his full-length album, but has returned for the  ’Zoo’ episode.
The singer reportedly re-mastered the band’s classic hit “I Choose To Love You“, to give it an R&B, Hip Hop feel.
I want to show you a much more upgraded performance than before,” he said with determination. Not only did he begin the song with his sensuous voice that’s become his trademark, he showcased his rap skills and his dance moves, creating a lively atmosphere on set.
Singer Ali who has been a major contender on the program expressed her expectations saying, “I am looking forward to a new side of Jay on ‘Immortal Song 2′ that we have never been able to see anywhere else.”

The February 18th episode of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Freedom Declaration Saturday – Immortal Song 2‘ honored ‘Midas Hands’ of the Korean pop industry , Kim Chang Hwan. The artists competed with one another, singing re-vamped versions of the songs that Kim Chang Hwan personally wrote, composed, and produced himself in the 90′s.
Hong Kyung Min who has received songs from Kim Chang Hwan in the past performed a punk-rock version of Park Mi Kyung’s “Obsession” and completed his performance with a lively dance, whileDavichi‘s Kang Min Kyung performed a mysterious and emotional performance of Chae Yeon‘s “Two Of Us“. Brown Eyed Soul‘s Sunghoon who is known to expertly rearrange original songs put on a provocative dance performance singing Hong Kyung Min’s “Shaky Friendship“.
4Men‘s Shin Yong Jae performed Kim Gun Mo‘s “When Winter Comes“, while Ali sang Kim Tae Young‘s “The End of Long Wandering“, and Lim Tae Kyung who came out on top for last week’s ‘Cho Young Nam Special’ sang Clon‘s “First Love” with a Latin, Flamengo twist. SHINee‘s Taeminalso stood out while singing Uhm Jung Hwa‘s “I Don’t Know

The February 4th episode of KBS ‘Immortal Song 2‘ was a continuation of last week’s homage to legendary singer, Song Chang Sik.
4men‘s Shin Yong Jae put on a performance of Song Chang Sik’s classic hit song, “Why Do You Call“, showcasing his powerful vocals with a performance that left a strong impression on the viewers.
But the first thing Song Chang Sik said after watching his performance was, “You look exactly like me“, which caused everyone on set to explode in laughter.
MC Shin Dong Yeob witfully added, “Without his glasses, you guys look even more alike,” which continued the laughs in the studio.
Additionally, Brown Eyed Girls‘ JeA and MBLAQ‘s G.O impressed the audience with their powerful performances, check it below.

Fourteen of today’s top vocals gathered on the January 28th episode of ‘Immortal Song 2‘ to honorSong Chang Sik and to sing some of his most classic songs.
Not only was the original line-up of AliShin Yong JaeHong Kyung MinLee JungLynIm Tae KyungNaviTim, and G.O. present, but SunghoonSonyaTaemin, and more were also in attendance to make this a more difficult competition.
They sang classics such as “Why Are You Calling Me“, “Lady At the Cigarette Shop“, “This is Love“, “At Least Once“, “First Confession” and more, and Song Chang Sik also shared some behind-the-scenes stories for all the songs that added more charm to the episode.
The legendary singer also put on a special stage performance along with guitarist Ham Choon Ho, for which everyone in the audience grew silent to enjoy. After it was over, the audience members demanded an encore performance for the first time in all of the show’s history.

SHINee‘s maknae Taemin held his first ever stage for the upcoming episode of ‘Immortal Song 2‘!
This episode will see 14 singers cover songs from legendary artist, Son Chang Sik.
Taemin will be performing “At Least Once“, and his stage is highly-anticipated because the general public aren’t as familiar with Taemin’s singing talent.
The maknae has made headlines in the past with his cute looks and dance skills, but viewers are looking forward to seeing how he’ll bring power and emotion to his ‘Immortal Song 2′ cover.
Before going on stage, Taemin expressed that he felt nervous. Yet like the professional he is, he kept that quelled deep inside and only showed the audience a calm and steady performance.
Afterwards, Taemin said, “I was able to sing well because I saw Son Chang Sik teacher’s smile the entire time.” Son Chang Sik reportedly praised Taemin’s cover of his song.

Recently, allkpop reported that SHINee‘s Taemin delivered an impressive solo performance for KBS’s ‘Immortal Song 2‘. On January 28th, the program aired its latest episode, and we’ve got the video below!
To recap, the show’s featured guest this week was veteran singer Son Chang Sik. Taemin decided to perform his popular hit, “At Least Once“, and threw all his passion and emotions into the cover.
The result drew praise from Son Chang Sik himself, as well as applause not just from those in the studio, but from those watching at home.

On the January 14th episode of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘, singers Kim Wan Sun & Brian Jooput on a sexy performance.
The theme for the episode was ‘Duet with a Legend‘, where legendary singers of the 80′s-90′s teamed up with a junior ‘hoobae’ to put on a duet performance.
The Korean Madonna Kim Wan Sun was paired with singer Brian Joo, and the two performed Kim Wan Sun’s “Only Mine” from her 5th album.
This is a really meaningful song, with which I felt like I became acknowledged and earned respect as a singer,” she said.
Brian stated, “When I was young and in America, I used to borrow videos from the video store and I remember seeing Kim Wan Sun’s dance. I’m honored to be able to stand on the same stage as her.”
When asked why he chose her as his partner he remarked, “She’s charismatic and I thought we would have good chemistry on stage.”
Kim Wan Sun created a comfortable and relaxing environment for Brian who was obviously nervous backstage, but once the two stepped out the performance, they had perfect chemistry and even pulled off a flawless sexy dance for the audience.

The second round of ‘Super Big Match‘ took place on ‘Immortal Song 2‘ in order to find a competitor for last week’s first round winner, Huh Gak.
Hong Kyung MinK.WillLee HyukAliLim Tae KyungJang Hee Young, and INFINITE’s Nam Woo Hyun battled it out for the top spot, singing Kim Sae Hee & Kwon Tae Soo‘s classic hits, “Little Lovers“, and “Tears of Mokpo“, as well as Yoon Sinae‘s “Dating“, Lee Mi Ja‘s “Lady Dongbek“, Song Golme‘s “Accidentally Ran Into You“, and Shin Seung Hun‘s “Romeo & Juliet“.
The songs were the ones the contestants previously performed on the program, but also the songs which they were unable to secure a win. Singers such as K.Will, Lee Hyuk, ALi, Lim Tae Kyung, and more showcased their phenomenal vocal talent and high-pitched tone, making the others feel all the more nervous.
This second round garnered special attention as viewers were curious to see who would perform better, Lim Tae Kyung who performed “Lady Dongbek” during the Male Vocal Special episode, or ALi, the vocal diva who represents ‘Immortal Song 2′.
In the end, Ali was crowned the winner of Round 2, and went against Huh Gak, the winner of Round1. The audience voted and awarded Ali the final winner of the show. Congatulations to ALi!

14 talented vocalists battled it out at ‘Immortal Song 2”s ‘Big Match’.
The December 30th airing of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Immortal Song 2′ was a special ‘Super Big Match’ episode, made up of previous contestants who put on phenomenal performances but were unfortunately were unable to come out on top.
These contestants came back together for a re-match. Along with the latest ‘Immortal Song 2′ line-up consisting of K.WillBrianLee Suk HoonLee HaeriAliShin Yong Jae, and Huh Gak, previous ‘Immortal Song 2′ members Hong Kyung MinLim Jung HeeKang Min Kyung, and Nam Woo Hyun returned along with Lim Tae KyungLee Hyuk, and Kang Hee Young, making it 14 contestants total.
A winner was picked from the first round, as well as a winner from the second, and the two battled it out for the top spot.
K.Will performed ‘Tears of Mokpo“, while Brian sang, “That Person is a Fool“, Lee Suk Hoon sang “Spring Days are Passing By“, Lee Haeri sang, “You Are at a Place a Little Higher Than I“, Ali sang “Red Dragonfly“, Shin Yong Jae sang, “Right“, Huh Gak sang “Q“, Hong Kyung Min sang “Little Lovers“, Lim Jung Hee sang “Gather“, Kang Min Kyung sang “Love Love Love“, Nam Woo Hyun sang, “Accidentally Ran Into You“, Lim Tae Kyung sang, “Lady Camellia“, Lee Hyuk sang “Date“, and Jang Hee Young sang “Romeo & Juliet“.
